00:00 Josh, obviously the offense is hard to get a rhythm throughout the night.
00:03 Just what were you feeling defensively that they were showing
00:06 that kind of made that disruption on your right foot?
00:08 Yeah, you know, they're known for--
00:10 that's what they pride themselves on.
00:12 I think that's what the defensive end did.
00:14 I think tonight, you know, a lot of it wasn't necessarily Ben
00:17 putting us out of our stuff, but we missed a lot of good looks.
00:20 I missed a lot of good stuff, Doreen.
00:22 She missed a lot of stuff, Doreen.
00:24 So, you know, you can't look too deeply into it.
00:26 I think they were good on defense then,
00:28 but a lot of stuff we normally make a miss.
00:31 But, you know, offensively, we started slow.
00:32 We started okay, and then throughout the game,
00:34 they hit us, hit us, but we never really hit back.
00:36 So that's something we've got to work on.
00:38 It's just playing a full 48 minutes.
00:40 I think-- I know we worked it tonight.
00:43 When you guys were on offense, you often talk about
00:45 the best stuff being generated through the feet.
00:48 On the flip side, tonight, it seemed like they were able
00:50 to get in the game and get those spray outs for twos
00:53 and that kind of thing.
00:54 What was-- what did you not have defensively
00:56 that you are able to do that?
00:58 Yeah, you know, shooter awareness, I think.
01:00 You know, McDermott had a bunch of threes in transition.
01:03 You know, Murray's-- Murray's tough.
01:04 When he gets in the paint, he's really good at finding guys.
01:07 You know, a lot of times we'll just talk ball watching.
01:09 He's, you know, when you've got an elite passer like that
01:11 in the paint, a big guy that can find things,
01:13 you've got to be ready.
01:15 You know, it's-- a lot of us have been aware.
01:18 I don't think we were tonight as much as we usually are.
01:20 They ran a lot of stuff to get looks and shooters,
01:23 and they made a lot of shots tonight.
01:24 But defensively, we weren't there.
01:26 Transition, they would get whatever they wanted.
01:28 Murray was living in the paint, hitting mid-ranges.
01:30 I think, you know, we've got to do a better job collectively
01:32 slowing, you know, those type of guys down
01:34 and being aware when they get in the paint
01:36 that they're looking to make plays for other guys.
01:38 We did that all night tonight.
01:40 Josh, does it-- just as a rookie,
01:42 not having to face the schedule,
01:44 does it get hard in sort of the middle of the year
01:47 pre-All-Star break, like on a road trip,
01:49 to just have it every night and bring it every night?
01:51 Yeah, no, 100%.
01:53 I was actually talking to Andrew Bogut tonight.
01:54 I texted him, and I said, "What did you do
01:56 to get through that rookie?"
01:57 Really, you know, 'cause us younger guys
01:59 have never played too many games before.
02:01 You get to the point now where this is probably
02:02 where our season's ending,
02:04 but, you know, we've still got another half of the year to go.
02:06 So I just hit him up, asked him things, you know,
02:08 that he did to get through it.
02:10 But, yeah, you can certainly feel it.
02:12 Not really physically, but it's more mentally,
02:15 just getting motivated for each game and each practice.
02:18 I'm not saying it's not there,
02:19 but you can definitely feel stuff, you know.
02:21 Outside noise is kind of having an impact.
02:23 So, yeah, I've definitely got to get through it.
02:26 You know, I'm not alone.
02:27 You know, there's 60 other guys going through it,
02:29 or 59 other guys going through it.
02:31 You know, and I'm sure it's something out of the world.
02:33 You know, we're getting paid a lot of money
02:35 to play in the NBA and play basketball.
02:36 So, you know, if you look at it,
02:39 you zoom out and look at it,
02:39 you know, it's not the worst thing in the world.
02:42 Can I ask you about Aaron tonight, obviously,
02:44 in 19 spots?
02:45 It seemed like he was just really finding his spots
02:47 and just within the offense.
02:48 What did he notice out there from him?
02:50 It was great.
02:51 He was great getting the paint,
02:53 he makes shots, he's a big time for us.
02:55 You know, he does it on both ends of the floor every night.
02:57 He usually gets the second ball handler,
03:00 and then he moves usually to the main guy,
03:01 and then he takes that next guy for them.
03:03 But he does it every night for us.
03:05 He's so, I think, underrated
03:07 in what he can bring offensively.
03:09 He scores at all three levels.
03:10 He's athletic, gets on the ring.
03:12 He just plays within his game.
03:13 He never tries to go out of his game and do anything,
03:16 you know, unnatural for him.
03:17 So he's a smooth scorer, gets all the spots.
03:20 Is it kind of nice playing with him?
03:21 I just think that that back door
03:23 that you guys had, you had on that inbounds play
03:25 where he had that angle,
03:26 and just is he kind of a guy that you find oftentimes
03:28 just how he moves about the ball?
03:30 Yeah, I love playing with Leakes.
03:32 He's really smart.
03:33 We've kind of developed chemistry,
03:34 you know, especially when it's inbound passes.
03:36 He knows that I just kind of, I'll get in the ball.
03:38 But he's often, he gets in the right spots,
03:41 ready to catch a cheap read, he cuts hard.
03:44 So he makes my job easy.
03:45 I've just got to put it there for him,
03:46 and then he does the rest.
03:49 - Go one on Zoom to Christos Saltas.
03:51 - Hey Josh, hope you're doing well.
03:54 In such an aggressive and athletic team
03:56 like the Spurs have,
03:58 what would you like to learn from that game?
04:02 What would you like to keep,
04:03 what would you like to change on your game?
04:06 - Yeah, getting back in transition was a big one.
04:10 They're, you know, with Murray leading the way for them,
04:13 you know, he's a fast athlete,
04:15 he gets out, kicks the ball ahead,
04:17 and they're good at running.
04:18 They've got shooters.
04:19 So, and then on the flip side,
04:21 offensively, just knowing that they're an active team
04:23 on defense, they get hands on,
04:25 they get deflections, they get in the lane.
04:27 So taking care of the ball,
04:30 you know, I had a level four turnover,
04:31 so being stronger with it,
04:33 making quicker, smarter decisions.
04:35 And I think when we move the ball,
04:36 we get good looks and we look good as a team.
04:39 So I guess an athletic team like that,
04:40 you've just got to keep them honest,
04:42 you know, and not try and dribble it
04:44 before it's sort of passed through their defense.
04:47 - Thank you, Josh.
04:48 - Thanks, Scott.
04:48 - Thanks, Matt.
