Magandang gabi Luzon, Visayas, at Mindanao.

00:42 some of them performed street dancing because it was too hot.
00:47 Some of them rested under trees, while some were taken to a local health unit.
00:54 It's okay that all 30 people were killed.
00:58 But this incident proved the danger brought by the dangerous level of heat index.
01:05 Yesterday, 38 out of 68 stations of Pag-asa
01:11 recorded a 42 degree Celsius and higher heat index.
01:16 Our temperatures are a bit high recently
01:20 because of high pressure that affected us, especially in early April.
01:25 So high pressure plays a big role.
01:27 If it's reported that there's a low pressure area,
01:30 it means that it's more likely that it will rain in that area.
01:33 But when it's high pressure, it brings us drier conditions and higher temperatures.
01:40 Is this extreme heat already our version of the heat wave in other countries?
01:44 According to the World Meteorological Organization,
01:48 the heat wave is abnormal heat weather that lasts for days to months
01:54 where the heat index is not yet normal.
01:57 But Pag-asa said that our heat is not enough to be called a heat wave.
02:03 Can we enhance the temperature?
02:05 According to Pag-asa's definition of heat wave,
02:08 the temperature should be increased by 5 degrees
02:11 compared to the average maximum temperature in the past three decades.
02:17 For example, the maximum temperature of Quezon City at 2 p.m.
02:22 which is 34 degrees Celsius, is still far from reaching the heat wave.
02:26 This is the average for 30 years, from 1991 to 2020.
02:31 Then, for example, Tmax, this is the maximum temperature.
02:36 If the month of May is 34.4,
02:39 that means, for example, if we reach 39.5 or 39.4 plus 5,
02:50 our temperature for like 3 to 5 or let's say 5 consecutive days.
02:55 If we observe, we can say that it's a heat wave.
03:02 It is also more likely for the climate in the Philippines to deteriorate
03:05 because of our rugged islands that are different from the mountains
03:09 and are surrounded by seas.
03:11 Tuguegarao is a valley.
03:14 We also call it an urban heat island effect.
03:17 So in the highly urbanized area, the temperature is relatively higher.
03:22 If the area is a valley or in the middle of two mountains, like Cagayan,
03:28 it is more difficult for the wind to blow, so it is hot.
03:31 The urban heat island effect in cities is the heat of the concrete sludge
03:36 that heats the steel and glass in the city.
03:41 But not only in the Philippines, but also in other parts of Asia.
03:45 Like Bangladesh, where the temperature is up to 43 degrees Celsius per week,
03:51 that's why there's a nationwide heat wave alert.
03:54 Cluster homes are suspended and animals are affected.
03:58 It's up to 5 degrees Celsius, which is hotter now
04:01 compared to the same time last year.
04:03 That's why people are praying together to avoid the rain.
04:10 In Thailand, the death toll reached 30 because of the heat stroke.
04:17 That's why people are asking to avoid going out.
04:21 The heat is record-breaking this April in Myanmar.
