00:17 The water level in some parts of Metro Manila has risen rapidly

00:24 because of the unexpected sudden downpour of heavy rains yesterday.

00:56 In Barangay Bagong Silangan in Quezon City,

00:59 we were able to cross the river.

01:02 But just a few minutes ago, the water level suddenly rose

01:06 and the river was damaged.

01:08 According to the residents,

01:09 they have a problem with the rapid rise of water level in the river

01:13 even if the rain is light

01:14 because the water is flowing from Rizal.

01:17 Here in Manila, the rain suddenly poured

01:20 so many people were not prepared.

01:25 When we were on our way to school, the rain poured suddenly.

01:53 According to localised thunderstorms,

01:56 the rain suddenly poured here in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

02:00 It was said that the rain brought a trough of low-pressure area

02:03 in other parts of Northern and Central Luzon.

02:06 Flash floods or landslides are possible in areas prone to landslides.

02:12 The trough of low-pressure area is here in the areas of Isabela, Aurora,

02:17 Quezon, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.

02:20 So in Metro Manila and the rest of the country,

02:23 that's where isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are experienced

02:27 due to localised thunderstorm activities.

02:30 Because the rain is becoming more frequent,

02:33 the MMDA is monitoring the trash traps they built in the waterways.

02:38 Before, the trash traps were made of bamboo and placed in estuaries.

02:43 Now, the trash traps look like this.

02:46 The trash traps are made of plastic so that it's more durable.

02:50 It's far from blocking the trash in strategic points

02:53 where it's easy to be swept away so that it won't continue

02:56 to the pumping stations and Pasig River.

02:59 As of now, they have placed 191 trash traps in the waterways in Metro Manila.

03:05 Because if the trash goes to our pumping stations,

03:08 the pumping stations will be destroyed and the water won't be able to pump.

03:16 That's why it's important that we talk to our fellow countrymen

03:20 about discipline, that they don't throw trash so that we won't be swept away.

03:25 According to the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office,

03:34 there was no damage to the damaged makeshift bridge in Barangay Bagong Silangan.

03:39 Their personnel were there to assess the situation and provide the needs of the residents.

03:45 MMDA repeatedly asked us not to throw trash in the waterways
