00:07 The drought will last for 24 provinces this month and in April.

00:16 Mark Salazar is on the scene.

00:18 The irrigation in Mexico is already dry.

00:24 It's also hard to get water from deep wells.

00:27 The corn farmers are already out of water.

00:32 It's 70-30 now.

00:42 It's always like this until July or August.

00:46 Now, it's not like that.

00:47 Because the irrigation is gone, it's dead.

00:49 In Zamboanga City, several barangays are experiencing water interruption.

00:55 The water supply is so thin that it can last up to 5 hours.

01:00 This is an opportunity for the farmers.

01:03 They are the ones who are getting water from other places to sell it for nothing.

01:07 It's 10 pesos per gallon.

01:09 That's 10.

01:10 For us, it's only 7 pesos.

01:12 We get 3 pesos for gas and 5 pesos for per gallon.

01:17 More than 3,500 hectares of rice are scattered in Iloilo.

01:23 Almost 4,000 farmers are affected.

01:27 The drought in different parts of the country is already affecting El Niño.

01:33 Pag-asa said in their monitoring that the number of affected provinces will increase this February.

01:40 When we arrive in February, the forecast of Pag-asa is around 24 provinces might experience drought

01:48 and 17 provinces might experience dry spell.

01:51 But El Niño is still flying because when April comes,

01:56 almost all 84 provinces of the country will experience dry spell.

02:02 In April and May, we will see around 40 to 41 provinces and then there are dry spell areas.

02:09 So if we add up the areas that are under dry spell and drought condition,

02:14 those are around 80 provinces.

02:17 Another thing that is being monitored is the level of dams.

02:21 Although they are still in a comfortable level, they are also slowly decreasing.

02:25 But if the rains won't reach the expected months, water rationing is not far.

02:31 Hopefully, our rain will reach.

02:34 But then, we will still see, because of the lag effect of El Niño,

02:39 although it is in its decaying stage,

02:41 there are models that are still saying that there's still possibility that our rain will still be low in other places when May and June comes.
