00:00 Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04 Now through today it's a chilly start, showers particularly across central and eastern areas,
00:09 more cloud and rain towards the west, all courtesy of this week feature here, delivering
00:12 that cloud and patchy rain and drizzle down towards Wales as well as the West Country
00:16 through the afternoon, leaving Northern Ireland later.
00:19 Come Thursday this feature here will bring more cloud to Scotland, Northern Ireland,
00:23 eventually far north of England as well as Wales, brighter skies further south.
00:26 However, if you're stepping out first thing this morning, it is chilly outside.
00:31 Add to that a strong wind across the north and north east of Scotland with frequent showers,
00:36 showers also running down this east coast.
00:38 Inland though, some pockets of frost to start the day, at least you'll see some sunshine.
00:42 The cloud has thickened across Northern Ireland and the Western Isles and here we'll see some
00:46 outbreaks of mostly light rain and drizzle.
00:48 And a legacy of showers continues through the morning across Wales and one or two just
00:53 pushing down towards the West Country as well as the Channel Islands.
00:56 However, for the bulk of the country, it's a mostly dry start with some sunshine.
01:00 These winds will be strongest through the morning across the east and the north east
01:04 of Scotland and then the winds will pick up along the east coast of England as we head
01:08 through the morning into the afternoon coupled with some showers.
01:12 Clouds will build generally across the country as we head through the day today and we'll
01:15 see a scattering of showers.
01:17 More cloud and outbreaks of rain continue across Northern Ireland through the morning
01:21 and you can see here migrating southwards just clipping the Isle of Man, West Wales
01:26 down towards the West Country later on today.
01:28 Now for Western Scotland, particularly mainland Scotland, you should see some hazy sunshine.
01:33 Showers become more scattered across central and eastern areas of Scotland and showers
01:37 will develop across Northern England, the Midlands and the South East.
01:41 Those winds though will be strong through the afternoon along the east coast making
01:44 it feel cold.
01:45 Inland, we could see a 13.
01:47 So the clouds and the rain tends to ease across Northern Ireland through this evening and
01:51 overnight but we will see some wet weather across central and western parts of Wales
01:56 as well as the West Country.
01:57 Eventually it will clear.
01:59 And then the bulk of the country under some clearer skies, quiet conditions.
02:02 You'll notice these blues just slowly migrating northwards and southwards.
02:06 Here's some patchy frost before the next system comes in towards the north west as we head
02:11 through into Thursday morning.
02:13 Before that though if you're stepping out on Thursday morning, like this morning, it's
02:16 going to be rather chilly, at least though some brighter weather.
02:20 Quiet conditions with a slight ridge across England and Wales whereas further north the
02:24 winds will pick up again on Thursday as this weather system moves down towards eastern
02:28 counties.
02:29 A legacy of showers through Friday then across eastern counties before high pressure slowly
02:34 asserts itself into the weekend from the west.
02:38 Weak features in terms of clouds and rain always skirting the far north of Scotland.
02:42 So let's have a look at Thursday in more detail.
02:44 Thickening cloud brings outbreaks of rain.
02:46 The rain will be persistent across the western side of Scotland.
02:49 A little bit of rain also for Northern Ireland.
02:52 That rain pushing in across the central belt by around lunchtime pushing down towards Cumbria,
02:55 Northumberland, Lancashire and Yorkshire.
02:58 And perhaps just clipping Gwynedd as well as Flintshire through the afternoon Anglesey
03:02 and the Isle of Man.
03:03 We hang on to brighter weather across southern counties of England and it will be dry here.
03:07 And your outlook then through the next few days.
03:09 So Friday a few light showers particularly in the east and then turning drier for many
03:13 but also some chilly nights.
03:15 I'll see you later.
