00:00 Welcome back to Men and Motors and today you join me in the Isle of Sky, but more specifically
00:07 with the all new BMW M7.
00:11 This particular model is the M760e, meaning it's a hybrid with a 3 litre petrol engine
00:17 in the front.
00:18 Somewhere on the car there's some batteries which give you around 30 mile range, but on
00:22 a full tank you'll probably get between 500 and 600 miles, depending on how easy you are
00:27 on this foot.
00:29 The car, in my opinion, is absolutely gorgeous.
00:33 It's stunning.
00:34 Now I know a lot of people beg to differ on that, so let us know what you think in the
00:38 comments.
00:39 The mouth of this I think is beautiful.
00:42 You've got the huge, iconic BMW grilles here with a nice little M badge and I really do
00:48 dig these split tone lights.
00:51 Now if you cover that up and just look at it that way, I think you might find it a little
00:55 bit easier to look at.
00:57 But I personally quite like these and the very, very high tech lights with all added
01:02 options and high beam assist, which I'll get into further on in this video.
01:06 Moving round to the other side, we do have 21 inch wheels as standard.
01:11 They are huge, they've got some big chunky tyres on and they do not give a lot of road
01:15 noise and more to the point, they just look the bollocks, if I'm allowed to say that.
01:20 Beep might be needed.
01:22 You also get the typical BMW M style wing mirrors with a nice little flick in towards
01:28 the car, just giving it that aggressive look.
01:30 You can adjust the ride height up and down.
01:32 Currently it's in the high mode because the weather has been quite tragic up here.
01:37 But, all in all, I think it's a stunning car.
01:39 I should also tell you this colour as well.
01:41 You'll notice it's matte and doesn't have a shine.
01:44 It's frozen pure grey, which is an optional extra, but I think, especially when it's an
01:49 M car or BMW alone, it pulls the colour off really, really well.
01:54 This car isn't shy of power at all.
01:58 It's 560 brake horsepower with 590, give or take, foot pounds of torque.
02:06 I can tell you, it's so much power, it rumbles and rockets forward.
02:11 It actually sounds more like a V8 rather than a straight six.
02:22 You'll see more of that later on in this video when we get it out on the roads because we
02:26 need to give it a bit of time for the snow to disappear so we can actually put our foot
02:30 to the floor.
02:31 Now, one granddad statistic we always seem to favour on Men and Motors and any car review
02:36 in general, something I actually quite hate talking about, but we'll do it.
02:40 We need to know how big the booty is on this thing just for your storage of goods and for
02:45 your long distance road trips.
02:47 I'm probably going to end up climbing in it again because that's what I tend to do in
02:50 all these reviews, but it is quite large.
02:52 In the combustion engine models, it's 540 litres, but in the plug-in hybrid models,
02:57 which is exactly what this is, it shrinks to 525, albeit it is very, very big.
03:03 For a saloon, you've got plenty of room to wedge yourself in or quite frankly, if you
03:09 want to kidnap somebody, which we don't advise, you can fully, fully get in.
03:17 Why do I do this in every review?
03:19 I really don't know, but it's the only way I can seem to demonstrate efficiently how
03:23 big a boot is when I'm 6 foot 4 and around 16 stone.
03:27 Anyway, you're probably wondering, how much does this car cost?
03:31 Well, you need to brace yourself for this.
03:33 In fact, I need to brace myself that much.
03:36 I'm going to get out the boot and I'll tell you right back around at the front of the
03:40 car.
03:41 This specific model is £143,000.
03:47 Now I know that sounds ludicrous, but believe me, it is well worth the money having lived
03:52 with this thing for a week and covered around 1,500 miles in it.
03:56 Now this model does start at £120,000, but this specific beautiful one that we've got
04:03 has £23,000 worth of options on it and you'll see more of them inside the car because there's
04:08 something in the back, which I think is absolutely amazing.
04:13 Some people may think it's a gimmick, but it definitely caters for the passenger rather
04:17 than the driver, which is something so great about this car and it's something that BMW
04:22 have really focused on.
04:24 They want it to drive well, they want it to ride well, and they want people to be comfortable
04:29 in the process.
04:30 When you want to put your foot down, you want it to feel stiff and agile and that is exactly
04:35 what this M760 does.
04:37 The quality inside this car is absolutely fantastic.
04:40 You get this massive, huge LED screen that is so crisp and clear, it's quite amazing.
04:47 To say that, the car is absolutely littered with cameras, they're everywhere, there's
04:50 too many to count, but it has this lovely animation where when you've got the 360 degree
04:55 view of the car on top, you can press the camera just to the left of it and it will
04:58 mimic you looking down the side of the rear quarter of the car and even when you turn
05:02 the wheels, the wheels turn on the animation as well.
05:07 It isn't just a standard 7 Series that's on there, it's actually an M7 that's on the animation.
05:12 You can flick through around there and transfer around the car to see the different views.
05:16 There's nothing worse when there's salt on the roads and the cameras get absolutely caked
05:21 in rubbish and dirt and stops you seeing through them.
05:24 But if you press more and go to camera cleaning and you press front and rear, it squirts soapy
05:30 water over the lenses of the camera and everything becomes clear again.
05:35 I think that is fantastic and the image now looks like it's 4K.
05:39 Now with this car being rather luxurious, you get these little crystals dotted all over
05:43 the car which do feel very, very expensive.
05:46 I'm not going to lie, I'm quite scared of scratching them.
05:50 However, the one to navigate the infotainment screen comes with a really nice click and
05:54 a clunk.
05:55 It feels lovely and when you press it, it just, just the click, it just sounds and feels
06:01 really expensive.
06:03 With that said, the drive select also is a crystal and even the volume up and the volume
06:08 down button is like crystallised.
06:10 One slight little criticism or one little niggle I found with the volume button is it
06:14 is quite slippy on your fingers so when you're driving and you're trying to turn the volume
06:19 up and down, with a sudden bump, you find yourself muting the music rather than actually
06:24 turning it up or down.
06:25 Whilst we're on the subject of sound system, this car has got the Bowers and Wilkins one
06:30 and it sounds amazing.
06:31 It even comes with 10.1 surround sound in the rear of the car.
06:36 You get these lovely metal and they are real metal like brushed stainless grates over the
06:40 speakers and you can actually see them at night illuminate behind and it does look really
06:45 nice.
06:46 What BMW have really focused on with this car is making speakers, vents, making them
06:51 as subtle as possible and they don't really draw your eye towards it.
06:55 The vents in the front of the car, they actually just don't exist.
06:58 You get lovely crisp lines and you've got a tiny, tiny little joystick which I didn't
07:02 even realise was there until after a couple of days of driving to turn the way the air
07:06 flows in and around the car.
07:08 It has a head up display in front of you which you can configure on the steering wheel and
07:12 change it and it is very clear.
07:14 A lot of these are pretty naff and in this car it really isn't.
07:17 You get auto dimming mirrors all round including the rear view mirror.
07:21 You've got memory electric seats in the car and you can adjust it by these crystals on
07:24 the side here and you can set the position or alternatively you can press a little button
07:28 here which brings up the seat menu on the screen and you can configure it even more.
07:33 I would have preferred to be able to control the seat fully from this button especially
07:37 while driving because you do sometimes want to adjust it.
07:40 Even the steering wheel is electronic by pressing the buttons below.
07:44 One other added touch which I think is a little bit quirky is even the glove box is electronic.
07:50 If you press this button here it opens.
07:53 You've got absolutely everything.
07:54 You can even set the comfort exit zone for when you park the car up and you stop, how
07:58 far you want the seat to adjust and how high you want it to rise to get in and out.
08:02 If getting in and out of the car can be a bit of a problem for people and you've got
08:05 stiff joints or you just like to step out rather than climb out, you can press a button
08:10 down here which if I press it now the car will slowly rise the position because it is
08:15 on air suspension and it will go up to a higher drive mode.
08:19 However, once you set off that does drop unless you re-select it again if you're going over
08:24 a bit of bumpy terrain.
08:25 In most BMW M cars carbon fibre is absolutely everywhere and it can come a little bit tacky
08:31 and I have seen photos of carbon fibre in this car and it doesn't pull it off too great.
08:36 However, there is this lovely grey wood and if I just get the options list I believe the
08:42 correct name for this is, if I can read it, fine wood oak mirror finish.
08:47 It's actually called fine wood, no way.
08:49 And you can just tell that every part of this car is pretty to look at.
08:54 You've got lovely premium levers on the dashboard, all on the door cards here and one added benefit
09:00 which we found whilst driving which I think is magnificent is when you put the heated
09:04 seat on the armrest in the door is also heated.
09:08 The only thing is the centre console armrest isn't heated.
09:11 It's not too much of a problem but I just found it was a nice touch.
09:15 I found my arm was getting rather hot this morning.
09:18 Heated steering wheel, air conditioned seats, heated seats and then BMW have tried to really
09:24 get rid of buttons in this car which can be quite a bugbear to the point where when you're
09:30 driving and you're trying to use a touch screen and you're bouncing on the road it can become
09:35 quite difficult.
09:36 However, with that said, the buttons on the steering wheel do actually come with a click.
09:41 They are buttons, you just can't really feel for them without looking at them to see what
09:46 they are.
09:47 Rather than having those mechanical clicky sliders to close the vents and open the vents,
09:51 you have a touch button which goes off the heat of your finger and you just drag it and
09:55 slide it and there's a lovely little green LED that navigates left to right to tell you
09:59 what position the air vent is in.
10:01 This car has got an Alcantara headlining spec which costs £1,050.
10:07 Now if I was buying a car like this that costs £143,000, would I spec it?
10:12 I probably would because I can't see an extra £1,000 causing me too much of a problem.
10:17 Do I think it's worth an extra £1,000?
10:20 Probably not but it is very, very pretty.
10:23 It's also got the Skylounge roof.
10:25 Now that's just a panoramic roof, it doesn't open but it is absolutely massive compared
10:30 to most cars and it has these lovely little lines in them which I believe are heat lines
10:35 to keep it heated and stop it freezing but at night, which I'll try and overlay a picture
10:40 if we've got one, the RGB lights down the side here project onto the glass and it makes
10:45 the lines light up a different colour and it just looks amazing when you're looking
10:49 out through the roof and you've got these lovely pink, blue, green, orange, whatever
10:52 colour you want on the sky.
10:54 It doesn't look like stars, it just looks like runway lights which I think is quite
10:58 a nice touch.
10:59 Now you're probably wondering what's it like in the back.
11:02 Well this is where things get a little bit special and a little bit magical.
11:06 So I'll get out now, we'll get in the back and you'll see how this car just transforms
11:11 into an absolute powerful limousine.
11:15 Getting into the back of this car is something rather magical.
11:18 It's absolutely filled with space, it feels very airy, very light, mainly due to this
11:22 panoramic roof.
11:23 You've got a centre console that folds out here and if you press a button it comes out
11:26 with two cup holders with a wireless charging pad at the front.
11:30 Lift this up, more storage and two USB-C ports.
11:34 Now this isn't where this car really comes to life.
11:37 This car has got something which is around a £10,000 optional extra and it comes into
11:43 play by swiping up on these little smartphone tablet things in the doors that basically
11:48 just control all the car.
11:50 They really are very cool.
11:51 Now if I just press this button here that says display and press fold down, all the
11:55 blinds close in this car and you are greeted with this massive 30-odd inch 8K television
12:04 where you can sit and watch Netflix, Amazon, whatever you want to watch, it's got it.
12:09 So right now let's press YouTube.
12:11 Hello folks and welcome to Men and Motors.
12:16 This is the Honda Civic 2.0-litre Advanced Hybrid Petrol 2WD Beast.
12:23 And there we have Jim.
12:24 If this isn't enough for you, this seat is specifically good.
12:29 So we can press seats here.
12:30 This is where, this is the best seat in the house and if I press recline, just watch this,
12:36 that seat goes forward which does take a while.
12:39 That said, you can live with this for what's about to happen with this chair.
12:43 It's absolutely amazing.
12:44 Picture this, you're on the motorway, you've got a long journey, the blinds are closed,
12:49 your chauffeur's sat in the front, that seat goes forward and this seat is about to recline
12:54 and make you lie down whilst you watch telly and relax on your journey.
12:59 Now the reality is when buying a car like this, you're most probably going to buy it
13:03 to be driven rather than drive it.
13:06 So that's why I'm currently sat in the back now to just experience exactly what it feels
13:10 like with a chauffeur leading the way.
13:13 Now picture this, it's dark on a Friday at roughly 7pm, your chauffeur arrives with the
13:18 automatic doors of the M7, he greets you inside the car, he's taken you to your favourite
13:23 restaurant where you're about to order kwek kwek patat and rakabar bar and you might swill
13:29 that down with a glass of champagne.
13:31 If you want to know what that is in English, that's duck pate, a rack of lamb and a glass
13:35 of champagne.
13:36 If I want to add something a bit better on here, I'll press seats again, I'll press massage
13:42 and I'm feeling like I'd like a full body massage, that's on.
13:47 I'm sat here with my duck feather filled pillow, oh and I could just quite easily fall asleep.
13:54 If this isn't luxury, I don't know what is.
13:57 Anyway I think it's about time we put this car on the road to hear what it sounds like
14:02 and to see how quick it really is.
14:06 The first thing I should say whilst driving this car is how comfortable and quiet it is.
14:10 It's very smooth, there's minimal road noise and that's mainly down to the sound deadening,
14:15 quality of materials and these double glazed windows right here.
14:19 All the seats in this car have massage facility and there is something that hits the spot
14:25 about just casually cruising or forcing it through the bends whilst having your back
14:30 kneaded like a piece of dough.
14:32 It is very lovely.
14:34 Now you can press a button down here as you mode and when you put it into sport mode,
14:39 like this, the seat grips you, you feel it, you feel everything kick in and hold tight.
14:44 You can drop a gear and if you pull the lever back to drop it into sport S mode, this makes
14:50 the car completely manual once you flick the gears and it will not interfere at all, to
14:56 the point where you can miss a gear and it won't change.
15:00 Most automatics don't allow you to do that.
15:02 It'll automatically change when you hit the red line.
15:04 It has a fantastic shift light and all the ambient lighting just looks magnificent because
15:09 it turns between red, blue and purple with the M buttons.
15:13 But now if I just...
15:14 Oh, fuck!
15:15 There you go, see how I...
15:18 [laughs]
15:19 This, honestly, is so, so fast.
15:28 560 horsepower, 590 foot-pounds of torque, it sounds amazing and it absolutely rockets
15:36 forward.
15:37 I'm just going to do it again once we get through this village and you'll just see the
15:41 way it launches you back in your chair.
15:43 It sounds amazing and you get that lovely DSG.
15:46 I don't know why we call it a DSG fart, but basically a dual clutch transmission burp
15:52 when you change the gear.
15:53 It sounds amazing.
15:54 There's a lovely little burble and it does tend to crackle and pop a little bit when
15:59 the engine gets rather warm.
16:01 So let me get through this village where it's safe.
16:05 One thing I should add as well when it goes into sport mode is the steering stiffens up,
16:09 the suspension stiffens up and goes into that lower driving mode and the seats just grip
16:14 your sides and it feels rather magnificent.
16:17 However, if that's too aggressive for you, there's always the massage button on the dash.
16:22 So if we just drop a gear, I've got to watch because it is quite icy, we're coming up to
16:27 a 60, we're in gear three and if we go three, two, one.
16:33 Oh God.
16:35 It is just savage this car.
16:38 It's absolutely savage.
16:42 Honestly, nought to 60 in 4.3 seconds I should add and for a car that weighs near three tons,
16:55 that is absolutely magnificent.
16:57 The noise, oh my.
17:02 And that view.
17:04 Wow.
17:06 Like I say in manual mode, it will not interfere.
17:09 If you miss a gear, it will just hold the clutch in until you decide that you want to
17:13 change gear.
17:14 There's not many cars that offer that.
17:18 There you go, just missed a gear.
17:23 This is a fast piece of machinery.
17:25 Honest to God.
17:27 You would not expect this level of power from a BMW 7 Series because the people that buy
17:34 this car are most likely wanting to be driven and not drive it.
17:39 And that is why I said before, BMW have seriously focused on the driver and the passenger whilst
17:45 building this car.
17:47 Everything just screams comfort and it just screams luxury and it's so harsh.
17:54 Oh, wow.
17:58 This is a fast automobile and the views up here on Sky are just unreal.
18:05 It took us around 13 hours to get up here the other day.
18:07 We're just stopping off because it was mainly an awe of all the picturesque areas.
18:16 Such a lovely vehicle.
18:17 It's just lovely.
18:18 And then obviously when sport mode gets a little bit too much for you, you can just
18:21 come back down here to modes, throw it into personal.
18:25 The seat relaxes, the steering lightens up, the suspension lifts back up and everything
18:29 feels soft and hunky-dory again.
18:34 What a machine.
18:35 Honestly, those waves are huge.
18:39 I don't think there's anything better than taking a car on a road trip on some picturesque
18:44 views up on the Isle of Skye and just enjoying it and taking in the scenery.
18:50 I've wanted to come to the Isle of Skye for years and I've never done it and when BMW
18:55 got in touch with Mennon Motors and said, "We can give you the M7 for a week," I thought,
19:00 "What better time to do it other than now?"
19:03 You really would think I was in Norway.
19:06 It does not look like the UK.
19:09 And if anybody's ever looked at coming to the Isle of Skye, I urge you to do it.
19:13 Get yourself in a nice car.
19:15 Get yourself on these roads.
19:17 Take your time.
19:18 Be safe, of course, and just enjoy it because memories like this with cars like this are
19:25 few and far between.
19:27 And the M7 is quite special to me.
19:31 What a car.
19:41 If you enjoyed this video, consider subscribing.
19:43 But in the meantime, click up here to see what my friend Jim's been up to and click
19:47 down here to see some true old-style Mennon Motors footage.
19:51 But for now, I'll see you all very soon because it's freezing and I'm going to get back in
19:56 that car.
19:57 Goodbye.
19:58 (upbeat music)
