00:00 Welcome back to Men and Motors and today we're looking at the Kia EV6 GT line.
00:08 It's safe to say that this Kia really is something from the future and it's got something that
00:13 us men tend to love in life and that is big wide curves as well as a few jagged edges,
00:20 you know what I mean.
00:21 But take the car for instance, it's rather wide at the bottom, it's narrow at the top,
00:25 you're getting that hourglass sort of figure with it and then you've got these little sharp
00:29 flicks on the wing mirrors, you've got the snouty lights down below, you've got the lowered
00:33 front end and you've got the jagged splitter at the bottom and it pulls the looks off really
00:39 well and it does turn a lot of heads.
00:43 One piece of design I think that's worth mentioning is this little flick here.
00:47 It reminds me of a whale's tail and more specifically a humpback whale's tail, how it arches at
00:52 the back and the weight of it kind of bends down.
00:55 But obviously because this car has got that quite cutting edge at the top and the hourglass
00:59 figure at the bottom, it just gives it that big mean aggressive look and it makes you
01:04 feel like when you accelerate the back of the car is going to hammer down and just shoot
01:08 and slingshot forward.
01:10 One other thing that is lovely about it, at night there's a little LED light in here so
01:15 when you unlock the car it beams a beautiful bit of cool white light down onto this pearlescent
01:21 metallic paint and you just get that glimpse of glitter in your face.
01:26 I think it's marvellous.
01:28 The GT line comes with 19 inch alloys as standard, which I am quite a fan of because when you
01:34 put big wheels on cars you tend to get big problems such as road noise, stiffness when
01:40 hitting potholes but this has also got the look but a really nice cushioned ride, meaning
01:46 that when you're driving it, it's ever so silent.
01:49 Kia and Hyundai are really killing it with the colours at the moment because from a distance
01:54 you would say this car is solid white and it isn't.
01:57 Up close you've got a lovely nice glimpse of glitter and it is actually pearlescent,
02:02 very similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 6 where it looks like a Nardo grey which is obviously
02:06 an Audi colour or Prima grey as we'd refer to it and that is also pearlescent because
02:11 they are owned by the same group.
02:13 Hyundai own Kia and they also own Genesis but this car, you have to hand it to them,
02:17 it looks beautiful, especially with the black accents down here and then if you open the
02:21 handle, I mean weird design to say the least, very weird but it works.
02:28 Not only is it powered by a 77.4kW battery, it's got a single rear wheel drive motor and
02:35 you can't do any skids because there's lag when you set off but it is very powerful,
02:40 so powerful in fact it's pushing out 226bhp and 350Nm of torque which doesn't sound like
02:50 a lot but when you do the maths on it and you actually go into it, the power to weight
02:53 ratio and the horsepower per tonne is 113, give or take, bhp per 1000kg and when you
03:01 move in and there's something in your way or you're on the motorway and you want to
03:04 go for an overtake, you only have to squeeze your toes, like literally, squeeze them and
03:10 the car just rockets forward which is surprising from something that weighs 2 tonnes and is
03:15 only 226bhp.
03:17 There are other iterations of this, you can get a dual motor car which is around 300bhp
03:22 and then if you get the GT model, it is 600bhp or thereabouts and you've got to look at it,
03:29 this car is a little bit bigger than a Volkswagen Golf and if you look at a Volkswagen Golf,
03:34 their Golf R is 309bhp so for something to have 600bhp that's direct drive which is power
03:42 like no other, absolutely blows my mind but we might as well move on to the back or more
03:48 specifically the booty.
03:51 This booty is 490 litres and to put that into perspective, I'm going to get in it, I'm 6ft3,
03:58 I'm about 6ft3 in stone because I like the odd lager, obviously not when driving and
04:04 yeah let's demonstrate this.
04:06 So if I get in, you should be able to close yourself in nice and neat like this.
04:16 Not that this has any relevance whatsoever to the actual size of the boot, it's just
04:22 that I'm a large object getting into a large boot but if you do want more space, this car
04:28 has something called a frunk which I'm only assuming comes from the Americans calling
04:32 this a trunk and a frunk is something in the front.
04:37 Now if you don't know what a frunk is, prepare to be amazed.
04:42 I was amazed to a certain degree.
04:44 Well you basically pop the bonnet or the hood if you're American if we're really on that
04:49 terminology and if you lift this up, you actually have an engine.
04:56 No you don't, this is fake.
04:58 You lift this and there you have your frunk.
05:02 Now I know I climbed in the boot but I'm telling you now, I am not climbing in there because
05:07 I feel like I'll break something and quite frankly, I don't fit.
05:12 Don't ask me how I know though.
05:14 This adds around 70 litres of storage space to your EB6, however I think Kia have missed
05:20 a trick with this so bear with me.
05:24 Why isn't it a fridge?
05:27 Hear me out.
05:28 You take this car on a road trip, you're driving all day, you've had to charge up a couple
05:32 of times, you get to your destination in the Scottish Highlands, you pull up next to Loch
05:37 Lomond, you're going to do a bit of wild camping, your tent's set up, the fire's going and what
05:42 do you want most?
05:44 A freezing cold bottle of lager.
05:48 I know I keep mentioning lager, trust me, I don't have an issue, I just like lager.
05:53 But you pull up, you sit down, you open this, you lift it up and it just gleams with the
06:00 golden colour of lager with all the droplets coming off and it would be amazing.
06:05 You could also keep your meats in there, your sausages, your bacon, your steaks, your chicken,
06:13 pork ready for the barbecue.
06:16 I must admit though, if there was bottles in there, I think the jingling as you're driving
06:20 would really do your head in but come on Kia, make it a fridge.
06:28 Now enough of the outside, it's about time we had a look at the inside because it's rather
06:34 spacious and it's quite simply lovely.
06:41 What you get inside this car is a massive screen.
06:45 Only when you turn the power on you realise it's actually split into two screens, one
06:49 for the clocks and the driver information, the other for the sat nav, infotainment and
06:53 everything else.
06:54 But one thing I do love is this centre console.
06:56 It's absolutely massive, it has huge cubby holes, even more things that could be a fridge
07:01 in this car.
07:02 It has all this legroom here, very, very spacious and I'm quite tall and I have the chair really
07:07 far back and you can still fit a 6ft 3in human behind me.
07:11 All in all, it's very lovely.
07:13 How about we hit the road and take a look at this in a little bit more detail.
07:17 Although this car only has 226bhp but a whopping 350Nm of torque, it is quite pokey considering
07:27 it's 2 tonnes.
07:28 I did mention this earlier but I'm in eco mode at the moment and it's cruising along,
07:34 we're getting about 3.8mph, that's probably because I've got a heavy right foot.
07:38 But if I just press this button here and change the drive mode to sport and let these cars
07:44 get out of the way, I'll show you what the acceleration is like.
07:49 And it's like this.
07:52 This is so fast.
07:55 What?
07:56 Oh my.
07:59 This is a fast EV and it is so fun to drive.
08:07 I mean, we're on a national speed limit road right now and it just sticks to the corners.
08:14 You can't really see what's going on but with it being rear wheel drive, you'd expect it
08:19 to be quite slidy and it really isn't.
08:23 Not that I've tried sliding it but you just feel the back end go and you don't.
08:27 You feel the push right behind you.
08:30 It's so quick.
08:31 I mean, like there now.
08:32 Just look at that.
08:33 Right, and brake.
08:34 This is brilliant.
08:35 The other thing is, this car around town boasts a 460 mile range.
08:43 And what that means is city driving.
08:46 And that's when you have the regenerative braking set to the highest resistance.
08:50 Right now it's a level three.
08:51 If I whack it up to level four and I completely let go of the accelerator, you ready?
08:57 Three, two, one.
09:00 You're near enough, come to a complete stop and then you accelerate and you're away again.
09:09 And what that actually does is it charges the battery of the car by putting resistance
09:14 onto the motor.
09:15 I'm not quite sure with the science of how it actually works but in theory that is exactly
09:20 how it works.
09:21 I don't understand the maths behind it but by slowing the car down, the forward energy
09:26 puts resistance onto the motor which then charges the battery, gaining extra miles.
09:32 Which means that you get the 460 mile range in city mode but in combined motorway miles
09:39 it says a range of 360 miles.
09:41 But having lived with this car for around a week, I've been getting about 280 out of
09:46 a charge.
09:47 With that said though, I haven't been charging it all the way up to 100%.
09:51 I've been unplugging it at around 95% because if you've ever charged an electric vehicle
09:55 before, you'd be well aware that the last 5, 6, the last 5, 4, 3% just takes ages and
10:02 it isn't worthwhile.
10:04 But I can't complain because it's so fun to drive, especially when you give it a poke
10:12 like that.
10:13 It is brilliant.
10:14 The other perk with EVs is that you can actually whisper to your passengers and they can hear
10:20 everything in the car because of how quiet they are.
10:24 And I mean they're so quiet.
10:28 You can hear a pin drop.
10:30 This car is so comfortable to drive.
10:33 I mean it's just relaxing and it relaxes me so much that I feel like you could fall asleep.
10:40 It's got comfortable seats that grip you, it's cushioned, there's no road noise, there's
10:45 no tyre roar, there's nothing.
10:47 It is literally so quiet to drive and it's joyous.
10:51 Which brings me on to say when you're feeling a little bit tired, it has this other unknown
10:58 feature where you can utilise a little bit of exercise.
11:07 And before you guess, no, the car isn't just going to magically turn itself into a treadmill.
11:13 It has this amazing feature which involves me getting something out of the boot.
11:19 This EV6 has something called vehicle to load technology which means if you grab yourself
11:25 a heavy electric bike such as this, you can charge it whilst driving.
11:32 Meaning that you should be able to go and get some exercise.
11:40 And when you do come back, you can fold it up and stick it back on charge using the vehicle
11:46 to load technology.
11:50 You see this is the beautiful thing about Manchester, you get this lovely sunny weather
11:54 which lasts about five minutes and then the rain starts to draw in.
12:01 What a place.
12:03 Come up north, you'll love it.
12:06 Jim.
12:08 Whilst we're up here I may as well talk to you about the back of the car.
12:11 It is very, very spacious.
12:14 It's also very premium.
12:15 I'm six foot three and this driver's seat is currently in the position that I drive
12:19 in and as you can see, I've got a nice amount of leg room.
12:23 Headroom is a little bit compromised but it's just enough to get comfortable, especially
12:27 for a man that's quite tall and also a bit wide if I must admit.
12:31 You do get a lovely little armrest that's leather, two cup holders in it.
12:34 Would be nice if they flicked out so you could have that as a bit of a writing bench but
12:39 then again I'm just getting picky.
12:41 You do get a USB-C socket here and a USB-C socket in that seat.
12:44 And the best thing is when you pull up into an area like this and you think, "I could
12:49 really murder a cup of tea."
12:53 Well if you come down here and pull this lever open, there is a 16 amp 230 volt domestic
13:00 socket meaning that you could plug a kettle in and boil the water from your car which
13:05 I think is fantastic because as a Mancunian and someone from up north, I love a cup of
13:10 tea.
13:11 The other thing you do get as well is air conditioning in the back.
13:13 You've got these little vents here and here and you can adjust them and blow them in your
13:17 face which is rather nice.
13:19 Lovely, lovely smooth perforated fabric and it smells lovely.
13:26 It smells brand new.
13:28 I've just sniffed where someone's bum has been.
13:34 Probably not a wise decision.
13:35 But yeah, very premium space.
13:36 Two little grab handles here and here if you want to start doing pull-ups.
13:40 Not that you would.
13:41 Lovely centre console finish, leather, premium.
13:44 Sound system's fantastic and then you do get two little foot heaters at the bottom.
13:49 Not really much more to show you guys other than the fact that it would make a great family
13:52 car.
13:53 Lots of space, very spacious, no transmission tunnel in the way I must add.
13:57 Very flat, very smooth.
13:58 All in all, I approve.
14:00 I should probably talk more about the interior of this car.
14:03 It comes standard with ambient lighting.
14:07 You get these lovely fabric seats but perforated fabric with a bit of leather on the sides.
14:12 These curvy headrests which remind me a little bit of a Volvo.
14:17 You've got all these touch screen buttons here.
14:20 One thing I do think it's lacking is I'm not a massive fan of touch screens in cars and
14:24 the reason for that is when you're on a bumpy road like this and you're trying to select
14:27 the screen, you might be going to type a postcode in and you might put AB and it comes up NM.
14:33 I know you shouldn't be doing that while you're driving but it's force of habit and you'd
14:36 be lying if you said you didn't do it because every single human tries to put a postcode
14:40 in whilst they're driving.
14:41 It's because we're impatient.
14:43 But touch screens are quite annoying to use, especially if you're trying to do something
14:47 intricate on the screen.
14:49 One thing I would have liked is a little twist knob down here, just like the drive selector
14:54 but more to control the screen.
14:56 One other great thing is this.
14:59 Your mobile phone, if it supports wireless charging, you literally sit it on this pad,
15:03 it starts charging, a little yellow bar lights up down here.
15:06 Your phone charges wirelessly.
15:08 One thing it doesn't do is have wireless Apple CarPlay.
15:10 Now again, I think that's a trick that's been missed.
15:12 You can buy aftermarket devices to do that but I hate aftermarket electrical mods.
15:17 I just think they look tacky, they don't look the best and quite frankly could be integrated
15:23 in this Kia EV6.
15:27 You get a rear reversing camera and when you reverse it bongs, it goes boong, boong, boong,
15:34 boong.
15:35 It does sound quite cool.
15:37 The camera is quite crisp, it's a bit washed out contrast wise on the colour which you'll
15:41 see here.
15:42 I just personally think it could be a bit better.
15:46 On the Hyundai Ioniq 6, which me and Jim did a video on where we drove to five countries
15:50 in one day on one charge, Callum, link it here, collaborative content, you know the
15:54 drill.
15:57 The screen's a bit better but they do run on the same sort of technology.
16:01 Steering wheel, two spoke, rather pretty.
16:04 I didn't like this at first but it has grown on me.
16:08 Flappy paddles, not for changing gears because this car's direct drive which means it's just
16:13 one speed, one gear ratio and it's gradual.
16:16 But the flappy paddles control the regenerative braking.
16:19 The left one, the more you press it, the more resistance is on when you let off the accelerator.
16:23 The right one, the more you press that, the more freewheeling it does and the more the
16:27 car rolls.
16:29 You do get adaptive cruise control as standard with the car, you get lane keeping assist
16:34 and you also get steering assist when you're on the motorway.
16:37 So if you want to change lanes, obviously it won't do it round a corner as sharp as
16:40 this, but if you want to change lanes, if you don't indicate and you try to turn out
16:45 a lane, it'll fight the steering wheel and chuck you back over into the lane that you
16:48 should be in.
16:49 The Hyundai Ioniq 6 does actually change lanes for you.
16:52 I'm not sure whether that's an option on this Kia, I've not really found out.
16:56 If it is, drop us a comment, let me know, we'll be always keen to hear your feedback.
17:03 One thing I want to show you is what this car looks like at night.
17:06 A lot of people skip over this in reviews and it's something that I always consider
17:09 when buying a car, is what it actually looks like when it goes dark.
17:13 And the reason for that is, the atmosphere completely changes in the car.
17:18 It gets to the point where you get LED lights coming on, backlit buttons, like different
17:23 bits in the floor, and it can feel quite moody and quite cosy.
17:26 I think it looks absolutely fantastic.
17:29 You can change all the colours to custom colours, whatever you want.
17:32 You've got all the white lights, the LED lights on the outside look fantastic.
17:35 You put the indicators on this scroll.
17:38 It just looks premium and pretty.
17:42 If you enjoyed this video, consider subscribing, because myself and Jim have got some cracking
17:47 content coming over the next couple of months with Men and Motors and we want you guys to
17:50 be a part of it.

17:55 Honda Civic and click down here to see what Richard Hammond thought of Kia over 20 years
17:59 ago.
18:00 So with that said guys, I will see you next time.
18:04 Bye.
18:05 [end]
