Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats that are classified as essential as our bodies cannot make them. We have to obtain them from our food. Omega-3 fatty acids are vital for brain and heart health and are also required by almost every process in the body. Omega-3 fatty acids like Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are found in marine animals like fish shrimp algae. Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA) is found in some seeds nuts and vegetables. Our body converts ALA into EPA and DHA so ALA is the mother omega-3 fatty acid.
In this video, I have discussed eight foods that are very high in omega-3 fatty acids. The best sources of DHA and EPA are cold-water fish however fish are not actually making these nutrients themselves. Fish obtain it from the marine plant they eat. Fish that are higher up on the food chain, from the smaller fish they eat consume those plants.
Omega-3 fatty acids are a necessary nutrient for life and their regular consumption is needed. Because, unlike other fats, our body has limited storage capacity for omega 3. ALA is mostly found in plant foods, especially nuts, seeds, soybean, chia seeds, green leafy vegetables, and some refined oils like walnut and flax oil.
The foods mentioned in this video contain large amounts of omega-3s.
Omega-3s provide you with numerous health benefits, such as helping to prevent inflammation and heart disease.
If you eat these foods, for example, you can easily meet your omega-3 needs. However, if you don’t eat many of these foods and you think that you may be lacking in omega-3s, you should consider taking omega-3 supplements.
