00:00 One question, even in the West, you can see this fascination for Indian culture, the word
00:07 karma and many people are thinking about there is a possibility of reincarnation, rebirth,
00:13 such ideas are getting rooted everywhere.
00:15 It's a very difficult, nuanced, multilayered topics.
00:19 But generally speaking, for a common man like us, is there reincarnation and rebirth?
00:24 Do we take multiple births?
00:26 Generally there is reincarnation and rebirth and reincarnation is such a beautiful and
00:35 deep Vedantic concept.
00:37 But reincarnation is not what most people take it to be.
00:41 At the level of the person, there is no reincarnation.
00:46 It is the tendency that forms the person that takes rebirth again and again.
00:56 The person obviously will not come again.
00:59 I will die and I will not be reborn.
01:01 You too will die and you will not be reborn.
01:04 But the aham vritti, the mother tendency that speaks through both of us, that seeks fulfillment
01:13 through the physical existence of both of us, that will keep taking birth again and
01:18 again like the ocean keeps waving again and again and waves come and waves go.
01:24 But no particular individual wave takes birth again, though waves keep coming one after
01:31 the other and all waves have something great in common.
01:36 So that really is reincarnation and I'm afraid it's very badly misunderstood.
01:41 And for a common man, millions of youngsters might be seeing this.
01:46 How do you explain what Vedic wisdom is, what the Vedantic knowledge is and what are the
01:52 applications for them in their practical life?
01:56 Even Vivekananda used to say practical Vedanta.
01:59 So what is the importance of learning this Vedic wisdom?
02:02 To someone who is totally uninitiated, I would say Vedanta means you're not what you take
02:09 yourself to be.
02:11 And it's of very little use to you to take yourself as what you do.
02:19 What you think of yourself, what you consider yourself as is not doing much good to you.
02:25 So first of all, get rid of through the process of negation, neti neti, all the concepts,
02:33 all the identities that you hold with respect to yourself.
02:37 And then what emerges is something so powerful and so beautiful that will make life really
02:44 worth living.
02:46 And perhaps the most common question of all, many good people who are doing good things
02:51 don't get back good things in life.
02:53 And many seemingly bad people are getting a lot of things in life.
02:57 I'm absolutely sure Raja Ravishank might have heard this question in the thousands of sessions
03:01 you have delivered yourself.
03:02 Very interesting to hear this once again.
03:04 Exactly.
03:05 So this will be the common question.
03:07 Everyone's saying that, what will happen to me?
03:09 I'm doing good, but I'm not getting anything back.
03:11 If you're doing something really good, the reward is instantaneous.
03:15 You need not wait for the reward.
03:17 And if you are waiting for the reward, then the goodness is still very partial, incomplete.
03:23 That's the beautiful thing about goodness.
03:25 It is so instantaneous, so guaranteed, and so independent that it does not have to look
03:33 towards the future or towards circumstances or towards any external party giving you a
03:39 reward.
03:40 You are doing the right thing and you have been rewarded.
03:42 In fact, doing the right thing is a product of internal rightness.
03:47 When you are internally right, it's then that you do the right thing.
03:53 And then the right thing is its own reward.
03:58 Then you're not really staring at the future with your arms stretched, almost like a beggar,
04:08 asking for a reward and feeling disappointed, "Well, I did the right thing, but life did
04:13 not reward me the way it does other people."
04:16 Equally, if you are doing something that's against your nature and your nature is beauty,
04:23 your nature is joy, your nature is freedom.
04:25 If you are doing something against this, then that is a wrong action.
04:30 And the punishment lies in the very doing.
04:33 When you are doing this, at that moment, you are not being yourself.
04:38 And that's a great suffocation.
04:40 That's a great humiliation to oneself.
04:43 So please, all the ones who want to lead an upright life, a life of courage, of power,
04:51 of freedom, never be afraid or doubtful that if you live rightly, the consequences might
05:00 not be favorable.
05:03 I repeat, one great characteristic of the right life is that one becomes free of the
05:11 botheration, the worry related to consequences.
05:16 And that's a great unburdening, is it not?
