00:00 Exercise can benefit us not just physically but mentally too.
00:07 However, finding something that you enjoy which keeps you fit can be quite tricky.
00:12 I am going to try something that is totally out of my comfort zone and see how I get on with it.
00:21 Wish me luck.
00:23 Although I wasn't a natural, I really did enjoy my first attempt at pole fitness.
00:29 Let's hope I can stick to it better than my legs did to that pole.
00:33 I was lucky enough to get a space in a class at Babe Fitness Studios in Wavertree.
00:38 They're so in demand, they sold out their places before they even opened
00:43 and have a waitlist of around 300 hopeful gym goers.
00:47 We decided on the name Babe because I found it a really affectionate term between girls and guys in Liverpool.
00:56 So I just thought it was just a word to me that felt really safe and it felt really loving.
01:02 It's cheesy but I just loved it and thought why not?
01:05 Made up of three large studios offering more traditional fitness classes
01:09 alongside the likes of pole fitness, reformer pilates and yoga.
01:14 I think with some gym cultures there can be this 'I look the best, I do this, come on a day in the life with me'
01:20 and 'I'm perfect all the way' and 'I wear designer gym gear and I look amazing'
01:24 and I just never wanted that for my space.
01:27 I just wanted it to always be really just nice, sound people all in the same place
01:34 that are just there to have a bit of a laugh and feel a little bit better.
01:37 It was more for people's mental health than the physical side at first
01:41 and just having somewhere to come, blow off steam, have a rant, get to know people.
01:45 And since we've opened we've got so many amazing women and guys from totally different walks of life
01:52 who would never in a million years have come together and started socialising
01:56 and now are some of the best friends in the world and that's the best thing about it.
01:59 Low energy levels and lack of motivation affect us all at some point in our lives.
02:04 Exercise helps to release dopamine, also known as the happy hormone,
02:09 not only helping us physically but improving our mental health too.
02:13 I think that Liverpool has, you know, there's very much like, there's loads of boxing gyms
02:18 and there's loads of guys' gyms and then there's quite a lot now which is a great female-only space.
02:24 But I thought, where does someone who's trans go?
02:28 Where does someone who is queer and feels uncomfortable going into a guys' gym?
02:33 Where do they go? Where do they fit in and why should they be left out?
02:37 So when we set up we said, OK, well this isn't just going to be a female-only gym,
02:41 it's going to be the girls, it's going to be the gays and it's going to be the these.
02:44 Everyone should have somewhere that they can go and totally be their self,
02:48 be able to train, be able to meet new people and finally feel comfortable in their skin
02:53 in every way that they want to feel comfortable.
02:55 And that's different for everybody and I love the comments, good for them.
03:00 You do you, HUN, we'll do us.
