Bodybarre in the Northern Quarter started out as the first pole fitness studio in Manchester, but now offers an aerial bungee class for those who want to try a resistance workout like no other.
Every week participants clamber into harnesses and are attached to the ceiling before undertaking an intense exercise class that makes strength training and cardio much more enjoyable.
We went down to test out this unique workout for ourselves and try something completely new.

00:00 It is so much fun. You know, you are the coolest person in the street. You've got a great story
00:06 to tell the next day. Like, what did you do last night? Well, I was flying across the
00:12 studio on Thomas Street. I was doing handstands with one hand. I was doing one finger press-ups
00:19 because that's what bungee does. It makes the impossible possible.

00:58 I like to find things that are unique, something that is weird and wonderful. If it's weird
01:02 and wonderful but worth doing, then if you get benefits from it, then we're going to
01:07 bring it. It gets you giggling. Straight away you giggle. As soon as the first move you
01:12 bounce up and down. You feel like you're a baby in the baby bouncer. It gets people laughing
01:16 straight away. If you're laughing, you're having a good time. So yeah, you're getting
01:19 happy and healthy at the same time. It's high intensity but it's low impact. So the cords
01:27 will always pull you and you have to push against them. So you've got resistance training
01:33 and cardiovascular. So it's perfect. You've got all your muscles working at the same time.
01:40 As long as you remember to breathe, I remind you to do that, you're going to win. It's
01:45 okay. Eight years ago, I went on the bungee course in Amsterdam, which was fun. I would
01:52 get on a bike and go to the training every day. It was a long weekend. It was really
01:57 fun. We wanted to bring some cardio workouts. We're mainly a pulse studio. So we wanted
02:03 to get people to cross train a little bit, get some cardio, but make sure it was fun.
02:07 That was for sure. So yeah, flying through the air, bungee, spinning, jumping, that was
02:13 for us. The problem with it, why it's not around so much is because it's quite tricky
02:18 to rig. So we've got like the hooks in the ceiling and it's just not something that's
02:24 easy to set up in studios. Diving out head first, flying across the floor. Yeah, I think
02:31 that's quite a surprise, knowing that you can do it as well. Jumping head first and
02:37 spinning around and flying and doing handstands. I think that surprises people that the cords
02:44 make things possible. You can do handstands even if you don't think you can.
