00:00 Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office. Some
00:04 challenging weather coming our way through Thursday, particularly for
00:07 England and Wales and Northern Ireland. Warnings have been issued. Here's your
00:12 bigger picture. The air is cold across most of the country through Thursday.
00:16 This weather front with some milder air pushes northwards and counters that cold
00:19 air, any rain turning to snow as it moves towards Scotland through the early hours
00:23 of Friday morning. A real squeeze on the ice bars here as well, so a windy day to
00:27 come. Milder air continues towards more southern areas and low pressure remains
00:31 in charge. Now through Wednesday evening that frost returns with a vengeance. It's
00:36 a cold night, a bitter night, further snow showers across more northern
00:41 northwestern areas of Scotland. At the same time the cloud will thicken towards
00:45 the southwest. Here temperatures will be more on the mild side but with that rain
00:49 pushing in and a stronger wind, not particularly pleasant conditions if you
00:53 are traveling through the early hours of Thursday morning. In fact a rain warning
00:57 is in force from 2 a.m. as that rain intensifies, moves across Wales,
01:02 southwest Midlands, central southern England as well as home counties. Now
01:06 where you see those sub-zero temperatures, watch out for some slippery
01:09 surfaces first thing associated with any showers, particularly across the north
01:13 there where that snow and ice warning remains in force through the morning on
01:17 Thursday. A broad yellow warning northern England down towards the
01:20 Midlands, central northern areas of Wales and a snow and ice warning kicks in at
01:25 10 a.m. for Northern Ireland. This amber warning indicates that we could see over
01:30 the high ground up to 25 centimeters of snow and also some drifting. A similar
01:34 situation Staffordshire as well as Derbyshire up towards western and
01:38 southern parts of Yorkshire. And further south this is the yellow rain warning so
01:43 again problems on the roads with surface water, poor visibility and strong winds.
01:48 So there's numerous weather warnings and they will continue to be updated through
01:53 the next few days so stay tuned to the forecast, check out our website to make
01:57 sure you are up to date in your area with what's happening. Three Thursday
02:02 morning then if you are traveling watch out for strong winds and outbreaks of
02:05 rain. Here's that snow as the rain band slowly moves northwards even at lower
02:11 levels we could see a couple of centimeters but it's really the higher
02:14 ground where there could be problems if you are traveling. And then through the
02:18 afternoon this rain turns to snow across Northern Ireland as it pushes northwards
02:23 eventually reaching the North Pennines through the latter part of the afternoon
02:27 and we'll see the snow turning back to rain across mid Wales as well as the
02:31 Midlands through the afternoon as well as that mud air tries to push in. More
02:36 rain then arrives across southern counties through the latter part of the
02:40 day. Now for Scotland it's a very different day yes it's very cold a
02:43 bitter wind even so we'll see some hazy sunshine dry conditions but still those
02:49 snow showers across the far north. So you can see where that rain band is
02:53 relative to the rest of the country and its progress is fairly slow so you could
02:58 catch quite a lot of snow through the morning into the afternoon across these
03:02 prone spots particularly the Midlands towards southern parts of Northern
03:06 England mid and northern parts of Wales and then through the afternoon across
03:10 Northern Ireland. Winds will be keen towards the south as well and more rain
03:15 will approach more southern counties through the latter part of the day as
03:18 that rain clears central southern England so you'll see some dry spells
03:22 and then eventually we'll see that snow reach northern counties of England as we
03:27 head through the afternoon. Now for Scotland yes a cold wind and
03:31 temperatures will struggle three or four degrees Celsius under this rain and snow
03:36 band yes temperatures only around four or five degrees Celsius but milder
03:41 towards the south but a windy afternoon to come temperatures could reach around
03:45 11 or 12 degrees Celsius. Now through Thursday evening and overnight these
03:50 warnings remain in force until the early hours and then notice another one pops
03:55 up here this is a snow and ice warning for central and southern parts of
03:58 Scotland and that's because this whole system is traveling northwards pushing
04:03 into Scotland and again this will be sleet and snow snow over the higher
04:06 ground where we could see some accumulations and a strong wind coming
04:10 in from the east. Further showers likely across the far north of Scotland here
04:15 and showery bursts continue to feed in from the south as well so wherever you
04:20 are it's still unsettled it's still pretty unpleasant outside with the risk
04:25 of snow as well as some heavy bursts of rain. So through Friday morning and into
04:31 lunchtime this whole system you can see the centre of the load just swirling
04:35 round with the clouds and the rain as well as the snow towards the north. The
04:40 air does turn milder towards more southern areas strong winds across
04:44 Scotland and here you can see that sleet and snow moving across central and
04:48 southern areas. Eventually we'll see it arrive across more northern areas
04:51 through the latter part of the day and into the early hours of Saturday morning.
04:55 A mix of rain here as well across Northern Ireland and rain continues
04:59 across England and Wales in the form of showery bursts as we head through the
05:03 afternoon. So yes the next 36 hours are fairly challenging a lot of weather
05:09 around as I say stay up to date with all the forecasts and we'll keep you posted
05:14 on all our social media channels. I'll see you later.
