00:00 [Sounds of people talking]
00:09 Well I think they're a good idea and compared with looking for fossil fuels it's got to be an answer hasn't it?
00:16 So it's far better than digging the place up and ruining the atmosphere and causing more global warming.
00:24 So my father is a farmer and on land quite close to where he is they want to build a solar farm.
00:33 Obviously on some land it could cut down on how much food and things we can produce.
00:40 But there is one strip of land that nothing will grow on, it's so boggy and it just won't grow any crops.
00:47 So to put a solar farm on there, that would be a brilliant use of that piece of land because it can't really be used for anything else.
00:54 And obviously it stops us then having to use nuclear power and other powers.
00:59 So that's a brilliant use of some land around here.
01:01 What are your thoughts? Tell me your opinion.
01:04 Yeah I think it's a very good idea, it's eco now, it's really much needed because obviously the pollution levels are very high.
01:13 And we have to think about the costs of energy which are very very high and the majority of people cannot afford them.
01:20 So if the government will help a little bit that would be even better.
01:26 And not only in the villages, another problem is in town because I live in a flat and I try to apply for solar.
01:35 And they wouldn't allow me because my flat is bought from the council so it's leased.
01:40 So I'm willing to pay to get them but they're not allowing me because I'm leasing.
01:45 So that's something that should be looked at.
01:48 But in the villages, yeah, especially for people who are micro-farming, that would be really good and it will help them with the cost.
01:55 And maybe it will help with the price of the product if they would be cheaper, which we all want.
02:02 So yeah it's a good idea, I hope it gets implemented.
02:05 I agree, I think it's something that we definitely have to look into more, greener energy.
02:12 You know, the planet is being stripped of its resources.
02:18 So yeah, I don't see an issue.
02:22 I don't necessarily want to see it straight in my face.
02:26 But I think there are ways you can maybe hide the solar panels in certain areas.
02:35 But then if people want them on their houses, I don't find that that's an issue.
02:40 I wouldn't necessarily think it was an eyesore.
02:43 So yeah, I totally agree with my friend here.
02:47 So we're in agreeance with solar panels.
02:51 You know, I do think we need as a country lots of different solutions.
02:57 And if we can harness our natural resources rather than anything related to nuclear, in my opinion, it's good.
03:07 Wonderful.
03:08 Yeah, I'm of the same opinion.
03:10 We need sustainable energy, no or low pollution.
03:15 There's a lot of NIMBYism in this country and I'd be happier with a solar farm or a wind farm in the backyard rather than a nuclear power station,
03:23 which has thousands of years worth of potential environmental hazards and health and safety and not our generation's problems.
03:29 But it's not right that we're looking at that as a sustainable source of fuel.
03:33 That isn't going to pollute the planet.
03:35 We need technology for developing more sustainable energy like solar and wind, wave power and all of that good stuff and less of the nuclear unsustainable stuff.
03:43 So, yeah, I'd be happy. It's not ideal, but...
03:46 And especially on brownfield. Why not?
03:48 You know, I get that in Lincolnshire we need to preserve our farming land.
03:52 We need to be self-sufficient in food as well as fuel.
03:56 So I get that.
03:58 So I wouldn't be suggesting you try and build it on farmland, greenfield sites that's currently being used for food production.
04:06 But certainly where it's brownfield and those sites are just wastelands.
04:11 And on eyesore, let's face it, we all go past them, don't we?
04:14 And they look an absolute mess.
04:16 You know, yeah, stick a load of solar panels on there.
04:20 You know, that's got to be better than staring at what ends up being a rubbish stump.
