What were people’s favourite study subjects and memories at school?

00:37and Spanish. I did Latin, but failed it at O-Level. One of my favourite memories, I think
00:45probably the friends I made there. Yes, I think it was the friendship. It was a sort
00:54of group, yeah. Yes, I would have loved to go back to school, but back in the day, gypsies
01:00were still to, you went in and they'd say, just get in the corner there, and they never
01:05learned you anything, and there wasn't poverty about you. So, 90% of gypsies never went back
01:11to school and never learned how to read or write. There wasn't fire, it wasn't nice,
01:16but that's the way things was in them days. Thank God, things have changed since then,
01:22and gypsies now can get the education they want, and get the training they want. It's
01:28unbelievable. I mean, I'm 71, can't read or write. I've got a nephew who's over in America
01:37at the moment, studying in Texas to be a film producer. That's a big jump from where
01:45we went to school, but I was told in school, oh, you're only a gypsy, you'll never learn
01:50anything. You're never here long enough and we can't be bored. So, thank God, things have
01:56changed. I'm over in St. Pancras, French. Memories of school, gosh, being in a beautiful
02:04building in a convent school in Preston. Convent school? I enjoyed art, I enjoyed maths,
02:16and I also enjoyed being in the drama productions in school as well. Not that I've done that as a
02:20career, but that's what I enjoyed. That's some of the memories I have of school. History,
02:27biology, English literature. Favourite memories? It was quite strict at school.
02:39Probably just the friendships I made there, really, more than anything else.
