What do people think about plans for a four-day working week?

As a four-day working week returns to topics around the country, we found out what people in Newark think of the idea and how beneficial it can be.

00:00I think I don't think that's a bad thing because I'm not in the normal nine-to-five

00:12kind of job so I do 12-hour shifts and I work five shifts one week so and I think

00:17it's better because you obviously if you work in a weekend you actually get to

00:20get to your appointments we're actually taking time off from work so yeah I

00:24think it would be beneficial all around yeah definitely. Yeah I mean I would go

00:28for it it would benefit me a lot because it means you get a day in the

00:32week to do things like go to the post office go to the bank and things like

00:35that before they shut so I would do it and just kind of compress the workday

00:38but it may not work for everyone but yeah. I think it'd be beneficial but I

00:42think you probably need to have worked somewhere so that somebody already knows

00:46what your capacity is and what it is that you can do from home because not

00:50every job enables you to work from home there are some jobs where you can't so I

00:55think you need to be in a job where it's obvious that say on a Friday or

00:59whatever day of the week you wanted to work from home the work that you were

01:03doing was appropriate to be working from home and that somebody's already worked

01:07out your honesty and your flexibility. Yeah I think so yeah I think when you've

01:15got jobs where you've got to go out like plumbers it's a little harder for them

01:19to sort of take on that sort of role but yeah I agree with my wife it all

01:26depends on your experience at work and where you are I think. I think it's

01:31beneficial I don't think it's a very good work-life balance I think just a

01:36two-day weekend is a good idea ten hours a day I don't think that's gonna benefit

01:41anybody really. Depends I feel like if you have a family and you need child

01:45care then it's probably not very beneficial overall because then you're

01:50even though will you be paying for the child care regardless but I think you

01:54know if you're single and can operate by yourself then I feel like having an extra day

01:58off would probably be better for you so I guess it just depends on what your

02:02situation is. I think I would rather do five days I don't know if I'd like to do

02:08ten hour shift and I guess it depends on breaks and like all the sort of nuances

02:13but I think I'd rather be five days and just have two days off. I don't like the

02:16idea I think if you can do five days work in four days do five days in five

02:20days or six days in five days
