00:00:03 Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:07 Hard hats, lunch pail, steel tool, boots.
00:00:09 Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:12 It's not even--
00:00:12 Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:14 You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:16 Somebody said we need to apologize for Jamie.
00:00:18 Can I pull the John?
00:00:19 What are we apologizing for?
00:00:21 What did we say?
00:00:22 What did we do?
00:00:22 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:26 [HUMMING]
00:00:29 Ahmet wasn't there.
00:00:35 Ahmet knows you're demanding.
00:00:36 He wasn't there to trail it out for you.
00:00:39 It's OK.
00:00:39 I let it slide.
00:00:40 I wasn't on the last show.
00:00:41 I would have reminded him.
00:00:42 You are correct.
00:00:44 You are correct.
00:00:44 And he made an outro.
00:00:45 I heard there's a nice outro.
00:00:47 He made it without you.
00:00:48 I heard I might be part of it.
00:00:50 He did make it without me, but--
00:00:53 With you in mind.
00:00:53 He also showed it to me in advance, too.
00:00:56 So I did get sneaky.
00:00:58 He made it with you in mind.
00:01:01 So we are here.
00:01:02 Jimmy Toscano, John Zanis, The Garden Report.
00:01:05 What's up, dude?
00:01:07 You guys are watching live.
00:01:08 You are looking live.
00:01:09 Or you could be watching on replay.
00:01:11 And if you are, what's up, dudes?
00:01:12 Well, do it live.
00:01:13 Yeah, good morning, good afternoon, good night,
00:01:15 wherever you are watching it, if you're not live.
00:01:17 Or even if you are.
00:01:19 Yeah, or you could be listening.
00:01:20 You could be listening to the audio version of the show,
00:01:23 which is available.
00:01:24 And you can always kind of run it back,
00:01:25 play some greatest hits.
00:01:26 People don't realize it's available on Spotify,
00:01:28 I feel like.
00:01:29 They just don't think that it is.
00:01:30 Well, it is, folks.
00:01:32 Jimmy, did you fog up?
00:01:34 Yeah, I did.
00:01:35 I did fog up.
00:01:36 You going to be all right?
00:01:38 I'm not sure.
00:01:40 I'm really not sure.
00:01:42 I'm just going to wipe the screen a little bit.
00:01:44 You know, if I go really close and then back up,
00:01:47 sometimes it--
00:01:50 nope, still didn't work.
00:01:51 Yes, we don't plug it.
00:01:52 Blorp, we don't.
00:01:54 Because you guys are here, and we
00:01:55 don't feel the need to plug it to the people who are here.
00:01:57 Because you're here.
00:01:59 Because you're here.
00:02:00 Defeats the purpose, but you're right.
00:02:02 There's an audio version.
00:02:03 On the days that you're not here, you can catch it,
00:02:05 obviously, on replay and audio.
00:02:07 Good game.
00:02:08 Good podcast, too.
00:02:09 Good win.
00:02:11 Josue and Bobby at the Garden, they'll be joining us in a bit.
00:02:16 Yes, hot, hot Jimmy.
00:02:18 Hot guy.
00:02:19 Hot guy.
00:02:20 Not hot guy.
00:02:21 Big difference.
00:02:22 Not hot guy, but the hot guy.
00:02:25 What are we doing about Mahomes?
00:02:27 Mahomes can't deny him, John.
00:02:28 What does that mean?
00:02:30 What does that mean?
00:02:31 I don't talk about Mahomes, because I
00:02:33 can't stand the Chiefs.
00:02:35 Love Mahomes.
00:02:36 No, John's like a Mahomes soy boy.
00:02:40 I love Mahomes.
00:02:41 I don't know why.
00:02:42 He's not like that likable at all.
00:02:44 I marvel at him.
00:02:45 He's amazing.
00:02:46 His whole family is unlikable.
00:02:48 It goes beyond him.
00:02:50 Oh, the rest of them suck.
00:02:51 I just-- I can't--
00:02:53 watching him play is just--
00:02:55 I just--
00:02:56 Yeah, you can't deny that he's a good player.
00:02:57 But he's not--
00:02:58 I marvel at him.
00:02:59 He's not Tom Brady, and he never will be.
00:03:02 You want to know why?
00:03:03 Because Tom Brady beat him--
00:03:04 Because he's going to surpass him.
00:03:06 No, Tom Brady beat him twice.
00:03:08 So as far as I'm concerned, that debate's already over.
00:03:12 Anyway, good win tonight.
00:03:14 Bobby's going to be coming in hot with his Zion sucks
00:03:16 takes, which--
00:03:19 Painful.
00:03:20 Which I'm just-- I'm preparing myself for it.
00:03:24 Running the stats.
00:03:25 Yeah.
00:03:27 Listen, Zion-- we'll get into Zion a little bit later.
00:03:31 Anyway, it's great comeback by the South Dakotas tonight.
00:03:34 Great comeback win.
00:03:34 Jimmy's trying not to make these jokes tonight, people.
00:03:37 So you're going to have to make them for him.
00:03:39 I know.
00:03:40 You know what?
00:03:41 There's a restaurant in the North End called Table.
00:03:44 No lie, John.
00:03:45 There's a restaurant called--
00:03:46 The Table.
00:03:48 If I know Zion, he's going there after the game
00:03:50 because he eats--
00:03:51 I saw a belly.
00:03:53 He's going to eat--
00:03:54 Zion, when he eats, he eats The Table.
00:03:57 You know what?
00:03:59 That restaurant is designed to--
00:04:01 it's like a family style restaurant.
00:04:03 It is like one big table, and it's
00:04:04 supposed to be shared between, I don't know, 10 people.
00:04:07 But that's the type of place where I feel like he would go
00:04:09 and just rent the table.
00:04:11 Just one-- how many sets of--
00:04:14 basically, you know how fat you are when you order,
00:04:16 and they put however many sets of cutlery, of plastic
00:04:20 they put in the bag?
00:04:22 When you order for one, and there's
00:04:23 four sets of plastic in there, and you're like--
00:04:28 One will do.
00:04:29 Just one.
00:04:32 That's all I got.
00:04:34 Or it's actually worse when they ask you.
00:04:36 Like, how many sets of utensils do you need?
00:04:39 Just one.
00:04:39 One.
00:04:40 That's what it is.
00:04:41 My food.
00:04:41 Give it to me.
00:04:42 Give me my food, please.
00:04:44 Quick Zion-- we'll get into the game itself.
00:04:48 Nice to win a game like this after you've lost a couple
00:04:50 with not great execution.
00:04:53 Nice to win a game where you were ice cold from three
00:04:57 and were able to pull it around.
00:04:59 Nice to win a game where you went on a run,
00:05:01 and the other team kind of reverted the ice ball
00:05:04 and went ice cold, and you imposed their will on them.
00:05:09 This was great.
00:05:12 Great win there.
00:05:12 But I do want to quickly give my Zion moment
00:05:14 before Bobby comes in here and turns into a full-on brawl.
00:05:19 You and I feel the same about this guy.
00:05:21 This is an MVP if he drops 40 pounds.
00:05:24 He is ridiculous.
00:05:28 Just the speed, his quickness.
00:05:31 He's 50 pounds overweight at least,
00:05:34 and he is so quick and fast.
00:05:37 He's not even jumping.
00:05:39 Scal made a great comment in the game.
00:05:40 He literally goes by people like it doesn't even matter.
00:05:46 Like they're not there.
00:05:47 The defense doesn't matter.
00:05:49 He just slices his way to the basket,
00:05:53 and then his finesse is what blows my mind.
00:05:56 He's a good dribbler.
00:05:57 He's a good passer.
00:05:58 He made a couple bad turnovers late, but his finesse--
00:06:02 oh my god.
00:06:03 This is an MVP.
00:06:03 That's the difference.
00:06:05 35-point-per-game MVP if he just took it seriously.
00:06:10 He's that good.
00:06:12 Most dominant force since Shaq if he just took it seriously.
00:06:17 It's unreal.
00:06:18 He's Shaq, but obviously not height-wise.
00:06:23 But he's Shaq, but with finesse.
00:06:25 Shaq is pretty much--
00:06:27 Shaq had a pretty little hook and all that stuff,
00:06:30 and he had some good--
00:06:31 I'm saying physically dominant, but not physical.
00:06:33 No, but Zion, his burst is still there.
00:06:36 He can just bully you around, and then yeah,
00:06:38 it's the finesse around the rim.
00:06:40 And some of those finishes tonight at the basket,
00:06:43 the way he just went--
00:06:45 I don't even know how he did it.
00:06:46 He had one that went so high off the glass and just--
00:06:49 Yeah, the one that spins it up high.
00:06:51 It honestly is a damn shame.
00:06:53 He's robbing us of just an unbelievable talent
00:06:56 because he really is his own sworn enemy.
00:06:58 Generational type of talent.
00:06:59 Yeah.
00:07:00 And I mean, listen, he's still young enough
00:07:02 where he can figure it out, but I
00:07:03 don't know if it's going to take a change of scenery.
00:07:05 Sometimes that's--
00:07:06 I don't know if he ever figures it out fully.
00:07:08 It's going to take a lot.
00:07:10 It's going to take a lot.
00:07:11 But you can see it tonight.
00:07:12 I mean, we don't get to watch him as much
00:07:15 because they don't have the games on national TV anymore.
00:07:18 But it's still there.
00:07:21 He's still got it.
00:07:21 He just needs to-- again, he needs to not--
00:07:23 when the Pelicans go back to the hotel tonight,
00:07:27 they cannot drive past the north end
00:07:29 because I think they'll take a left turn down Hanover Street,
00:07:32 and that might be the last time we see Zion.
00:07:34 Those are the things you've got to really focus on off
00:07:37 the court.
00:07:38 But yeah, he's unreal talent.
00:07:40 And John, we had a famous debate about Zion Ingram
00:07:44 versus Tatum Brown.
00:07:46 That's on ice right now.
00:07:47 That debate's on ice right now.
00:07:50 But the point, I think, at the time
00:07:52 was, before we knew that Zion could eat himself out
00:07:56 of the league, was that these were
00:07:58 two extremely talented young players
00:08:01 that you should be able to build a franchise around.
00:08:05 Now, Pelicans haven't been able to.
00:08:07 And a lot of that is because of Zion.
00:08:10 But you can see tonight, the way that the Pelicans started
00:08:13 this game, they were more aggressive.
00:08:15 You can see the way that they can score, whether it's
00:08:18 McCollum, Ingram, Williamson.
00:08:20 The problem is, and Scal mentioned it,
00:08:21 they're not consistent.
00:08:22 So you saw it tonight.
00:08:23 Tonight was like a microcosm of, I think,
00:08:25 probably what that team is or that their season is.
00:08:28 They come out in bursts.
00:08:29 They can-- all of a sudden, they can drop 10.
00:08:31 Within a minute.
00:08:32 And then they go into these lows.
00:08:34 This game was all about runs, from whether it
00:08:36 was the Pelicans or the Celtics.
00:08:38 It was just one extreme to the next.
00:08:40 And man, the Celtics could not have started any colder
00:08:43 from beyond the arc.
00:08:44 I mean, the mid-range at the rim was OK.
00:08:48 But the three points, cold as can be,
00:08:51 stemming from that Clippers loss.
00:08:53 So got to give them credit for coming out in the second half.
00:08:55 It was a bad start with that, right?
00:08:57 Yeah.
00:08:58 After having that miserable, miserable shooting
00:09:02 game against the Clippers--
00:09:03 Hangover.
00:09:04 Yeah.
00:09:05 To come out as cold as they were to start the game
00:09:08 was definitely not great.
00:09:12 And obviously, they pulled it out.
00:09:14 Derek White--
00:09:17 Derek White, fourth quarter, man.
00:09:19 --got his groove back a little bit, because that was, again,
00:09:23 he's been cold for a little bit from three.
00:09:26 And he started this game bad, too.
00:09:28 I think one for eight or one for seven from three.
00:09:30 Yeah, he was missing everything.
00:09:31 Missed the halftime shot that was wide open.
00:09:35 But that fourth quarter, he hit that one-- no.
00:09:37 He did something, I think, in the paint.
00:09:39 And then he hit a three, like five quick points.
00:09:41 And then from that point on, he went into another level.
00:09:47 So I got to give the guards credit tonight,
00:09:49 because it was Drew Holiday, I think, for most of this game.
00:09:52 I thought Holiday was their most consistent player
00:09:54 from start to finish.
00:09:55 And then Derek White turned it on.
00:09:57 But then, again, you look at this box score,
00:10:00 or just watching the game, Tatum and Brown
00:10:04 combined for, I think, close to 50 or 50.
00:10:06 So it's like they found--
00:10:07 Not only that--
00:10:07 --a way to contribute, too.
00:10:08 They almost both had triple doubles.
00:10:10 21 rebounds between the two of them, seven and eight assists,
00:10:13 respectively.
00:10:14 It was three in the second half.
00:10:16 Yeah, crazy games.
00:10:18 Tatum finishes with 10 and eight.
00:10:20 Brown finishes 11 rebounds, seven assists.
00:10:22 Super impressive, the way they got that going.
00:10:25 Neither one shot well from three.
00:10:27 Tatum had a really bad turnover game tonight.
00:10:29 Jaylen Brown, zero turnovers tonight.
00:10:32 Zero turnovers.
00:10:33 And he took Zion, and forced a turnover late in that fourth,
00:10:36 too.
00:10:36 He did.
00:10:37 He did.
00:10:38 So good all-around games from those guys.
00:10:41 Holiday was good when everyone else was bad.
00:10:43 That made it twice as good, twice as important,
00:10:45 because a lot of people were struggling,
00:10:47 and Holiday was hitting shots.
00:10:48 And he was able to get to the basket some.
00:10:51 And he was playing well.
00:10:52 And I mean, he did the best I guess he could.
00:10:54 Matched up with Zion a couple of times,
00:10:56 but they didn't have anybody who was matching up there.
00:10:59 No, I mean, he was physical.
00:11:00 He gave it right back to Zion.
00:11:01 I thought he was physical on the offensive end
00:11:04 when he found himself up against him.
00:11:06 So it was bad.
00:11:08 You're not going to stop Zion if Zion gets into bully mode.
00:11:12 And it's just-- it's a testament to Holiday.
00:11:15 Yeah, I mean, the guy--
00:11:16 Holiday's always getting those types of match-ups.
00:11:18 And you've got to tip your cap to him for taking him on
00:11:22 and just doing the best he can.
00:11:23 But I mean, Zion hit some pretty--
00:11:26 you watch that game back.
00:11:27 You'll see him hit some pretty ridiculous shots
00:11:29 at the rim and whatnot.
00:11:30 So if you're a Pelicans fan or if you're a Pelicans player,
00:11:35 you're pissed off tonight, because this was a game
00:11:37 where you didn't play that poorly.
00:11:38 You actually played pretty damn well.
00:11:40 You just happened to play against one
00:11:41 of the better teams in the NBA.
00:11:42 And they turned it on in the second half.
00:11:44 But the talent is there.
00:11:46 I mean, Trey Murphy, the third, hit some big shots for them.
00:11:51 They have the guys.
00:11:52 It's just-- I don't know.
00:11:53 I don't watch enough of the Pelicans.
00:11:54 I don't know if it's coaching.
00:11:55 I don't know if it's just lack of execution
00:11:56 or if it's just they don't have the right veterans in place.
00:11:59 But they just don't put it all together in the Celtics.
00:12:02 You've got to give them credit for whatever adjustments
00:12:05 they were able to make at halftime.
00:12:08 I think a lot of it was just missed shots, John.
00:12:10 I mean, they were just missing three after three after three.
00:12:13 And you had to hope that it was going to even out at some point.
00:12:17 And it did.
00:12:19 And one guy we haven't mentioned--
00:12:20 and we have mentioned a couple of guys.
00:12:22 But I got to give Al Horford a little bit of credit tonight,
00:12:25 too.
00:12:26 I thought he got better as the game went on.
00:12:28 He got physical, again, against some of the younger
00:12:35 bigs in the league.
00:12:36 Again, and obviously Zion Ingram and those players.
00:12:40 Had a big, grown man, dad strength, offensive rebound
00:12:44 and putback in that fourth quarter
00:12:46 tonight that I thought was huge for them.
00:12:48 Yeah.
00:12:48 And for what it's worth--
00:12:50 and everyone's going to make a big deal about it.
00:12:52 But this is where the conversation
00:12:56 bores me a little bit on the too many threes situation.
00:13:01 I'll always favor the easy basket over the three,
00:13:04 because an easy basket is an easy basket.
00:13:06 When I'm talking easy basket, I'm
00:13:08 saying getting all the way to the cup,
00:13:10 creating easy baskets through passing,
00:13:13 not just driving into people and trying to win ISO matchups,
00:13:17 where there's help defense coming over
00:13:19 and shooters falling out of bounds
00:13:21 and creating transition opportunities the other way.
00:13:23 I mean, easy baskets.
00:13:25 You create easy baskets and easy looks by working the ball,
00:13:28 by working some matchups.
00:13:29 I always think that that's the favorite.
00:13:31 But if the Celtics stop shooting threes tonight
00:13:33 because they were cold and went away from it,
00:13:35 they lose the game.
00:13:37 The three ball got them back in it.
00:13:38 So again, I think they're not hugely different than a lot
00:13:42 of different teams.
00:13:43 You want to see them be able to get those easy baskets as well
00:13:47 and not be that entirely reliant on it.
00:13:48 But that's their formula.
00:13:51 And so they got to kind of stay with it,
00:13:53 even when it's not going great.
00:13:54 And it was going bad again after such a miserable game
00:13:58 against the Clippers.
00:13:58 And they had to keep shooting, and they did.
00:14:00 And that actually won them the game.
00:14:05 Yeah, I mean, listen, you go down 15 or whatever
00:14:08 it was in the first half.
00:14:10 And then they went down, I think, 11 in the third
00:14:12 for a quick second.
00:14:13 You're going to try to shoot your way back into it.
00:14:15 Now, it's one thing.
00:14:15 If you can get to the line and get fouls and take free throws,
00:14:18 that's great.
00:14:19 Three the hard way, there's no issues there.
00:14:23 But they have three points.
00:14:25 This team is designed and built to shoot threes.
00:14:29 So yeah, I mean, you're going to have nights like you did
00:14:32 against the Clippers or whoever, where if they're not falling,
00:14:35 then that's just it.
00:14:36 And there might be some teams that
00:14:38 can get away with it a little bit more,
00:14:39 because they might have more of an interior presence.
00:14:42 But this Celtics team focuses on those threes.
00:14:45 Even their bigs focus on threes, Porzingis and Horford.
00:14:48 Like, they don't have, I guess, K to play tonight.
00:14:51 So there's one guy that's not going
00:14:53 to be focusing on threes.
00:14:54 But--
00:14:54 That was it, man.
00:14:55 They have six of eight from three in the fourth quarter.
00:14:58 They shoot 72% of the field in the fourth.
00:15:00 They just got blazing hot.
00:15:01 And that was it.
00:15:02 Lights out.
00:15:03 They win the game.
00:15:05 I wouldn't say going away, but I mean, they friggin--
00:15:08 they just blew by him at the end there.
00:15:10 That was really impressive.
00:15:12 Fourth quarter by the Celtics.
00:15:13 So an all-around good win.
00:15:14 I'm seeing some people saying that the Missoula press
00:15:18 conference has been entertaining.
00:15:20 I'm very curious as to why.
00:15:23 I'll say this, John, too, just going back to the threes.
00:15:27 And Scal mentioned this on the broadcast.
00:15:29 This is kind of basically like coming out of halftime.
00:15:33 How the Celtics react when the shots aren't falling
00:15:37 is really going to speak to how well they'll end up
00:15:41 and how far they'll end up going.
00:15:43 Because-- and we've said this before.
00:15:45 When they miss shots, they tend to sulk.
00:15:48 They tend to start focusing on officiating
00:15:51 or whatever it might be.
00:15:52 I'm not saying that happened tonight,
00:15:53 but generally speaking, they let their guard down
00:15:56 on the defensive side if the shots aren't falling.
00:15:58 They need to figure out a way to still play hard defensively
00:16:03 when things aren't going their way offensively.
00:16:05 And I think that's kind of what happened a little bit
00:16:07 tonight with them against this team.
00:16:10 They started missing some shots, frustrating shots,
00:16:13 getting frustrated, maybe not putting in the level of effort
00:16:17 that they need to on the defensive end
00:16:19 because it's the NBA.
00:16:20 You can't just take games off.
00:16:22 And when you do, you see what happens.
00:16:24 You see the bucks.
00:16:25 You see maybe a situation like--
00:16:28 not a game, but if you take enough time off within a game,
00:16:31 it can get away from you quickly.
00:16:32 So they need to figure out how to still be engaged and play
00:16:36 hard on the defensive end.
00:16:37 And that's how you kind of get into the games
00:16:39 when the threes aren't falling, John.
00:16:41 You get stops defensively.
00:16:42 You get out in transition.
00:16:44 You tire the other team.
00:16:45 They were making Zion run tonight.
00:16:47 So he was getting winded.
00:16:48 I think he had to call out a couple of times.
00:16:50 They were attacking him.
00:16:51 So yeah, it was the threes on one hand, John.
00:16:54 But if they didn't get out and get stops and run in transition
00:16:58 and make Norlands work defensively--
00:17:01 No, they played faster too, and that was good.
00:17:03 Yeah, I don't think they got back either.
00:17:05 They got to the basket too.
00:17:07 The threes also started falling there.
00:17:10 I mean, dominant fourth.
00:17:11 They got whatever they wanted there.
00:17:13 So that was great.
00:17:15 I'm really intrigued by this Mazzullo stuff.
00:17:17 What's going on?
00:17:18 He's just being weird in ways only Joe can be.
00:17:22 So I'll let the viewers kind of determine for themselves.
00:17:27 Well, Amit will clip it for us for sure.
00:17:29 When Amit clips it and sends it over.
00:17:31 That's-- yeah, that's-- unless you
00:17:33 ask him to make some spicy intro or outro or something
00:17:37 for you.
00:17:38 No, I'm good with the outro.
00:17:39 Yeah, we're good for now.
00:17:40 It diverts his attention, yeah.
00:17:43 Hey, Amit came to my gig on Friday, John.
00:17:45 So you're on the hot seat.
00:17:46 Did he?
00:17:47 Yeah.
00:17:49 Hasn't he come a bunch?
00:17:50 He's like a groupie now.
00:17:51 He's come to a few, yeah.
00:17:52 I'm not going to say any more, but he's-- yeah, we have fun.
00:17:55 We have a good time.
00:17:56 Yeah, groupie.
00:17:58 I'm not going to say groupie, no.
00:17:59 He's not a groupie.
00:17:59 But he's got some groupies.
00:18:01 You ever watch--
00:18:01 I think he's got some groupies, to be completely honest.
00:18:04 You ever watch Flight of the Concords?
00:18:07 You know what?
00:18:08 I never really-- I know the show, but I never got into it.
00:18:10 It was a little too--
00:18:12 it was a little too Portland for me.
00:18:14 Kristen Schaal-- no, that's New Zealand.
00:18:18 It's the New Zealanders, Bret and Jermaine.
00:18:20 Anyway, it doesn't matter.
00:18:21 They're a musical duo, and they have one fan,
00:18:27 and it's Kristen Schaal.
00:18:28 And so that's why I was going to make that joke with Ahmet.
00:18:31 I don't know.
00:18:32 I don't know.
00:18:33 Yeah.
00:18:34 Ahmet's in with the band.
00:18:36 He's in with the band.
00:18:38 I'll say that.
00:18:39 Ahmet's on my VIP list, for sure.
00:18:41 So does this wash away the Clippers' stank for you
00:18:44 a little bit?
00:18:46 No, not entirely.
00:18:47 No, because again, this goes back to what I said
00:18:50 after the Bucks lost.
00:18:51 This goes back to what I said--
00:18:55 oh, after the Denver loss.
00:18:58 And I'll give the Pelicans credit.
00:18:59 They're not a basement-dwelling team,
00:19:01 but they're not a championship-contending team
00:19:03 either.
00:19:03 Does it wash it away?
00:19:04 Does it lessen the stench?
00:19:07 Sure, it does, because you know why?
00:19:08 I like that they won this game, Jerm,
00:19:10 because if they lose tonight, now
00:19:12 they've got a back-to-back tomorrow with Indy.
00:19:14 Now we're talking about, oh, God, maybe a losing streak.
00:19:17 And it's like it could all of a sudden spiral.
00:19:19 So I do like the fight, and I like the recovery
00:19:21 they made in this game.
00:19:22 But it doesn't take away from a stinker
00:19:26 against a title contender in the Clippers.
00:19:30 And again, I go back to the games
00:19:32 that they've lost this year.
00:19:34 They've lost to the Sixers.
00:19:35 They've lost to the Bucks.
00:19:36 They've lost to the Nuggets.
00:19:37 They've lost to the Clippers.
00:19:39 They're losing to all the teams that they're
00:19:40 going to see either in the Eastern Conference finals
00:19:44 or in the NBA finals.
00:19:45 So those games are never just going to disappear for me.
00:19:48 It's great to bounce back and get the wins
00:19:51 from everybody else.
00:19:52 But I still care about those games.
00:19:54 And that's why I care when they no-show
00:19:56 or when they get blown out, because those
00:20:01 are litmus tests for me.
00:20:02 And so I want good competitive games.
00:20:04 I want wins in the end.
00:20:05 So that's my answer to that.
00:20:07 But that being said, it's still a nice win for them.
00:20:11 It is a nice win.
00:20:13 I agree.
00:20:14 I think people got a little--
00:20:16 people got really-- people got triggered, Jimmy.
00:20:19 You got foggy again.
00:20:20 Yeah, I know.
00:20:21 It's-- you know what?
00:20:22 I think it's the new thing we're doing here.
00:20:24 But whatever.
00:20:25 OK, yeah, blame the tech.
00:20:26 I think it's the new thing we're doing here.
00:20:29 Blame the tech.
00:20:31 The-- welcome, Ice Cream.
00:20:33 Yeah, Joe's comments are about entitlement.
00:20:38 We'll get that in a little bit here.
00:20:40 Look at me now.
00:20:41 Yeah, we beat those teams, too.
00:20:44 But they're like five and six against some Kess.
00:20:47 It's not the end of the world.
00:20:48 That's not good.
00:20:49 That's not a good record, John.
00:20:50 Last I checked, that's a losing record.
00:20:52 Look, I mean, the best teams are going to play each other in
00:20:54 and around 500.
00:20:56 So it's not great.
00:20:57 But you lost OKC.
00:20:59 You did come back and you beat Minnesota.
00:21:01 You just lost recently.
00:21:02 You also lost to Minnesota.
00:21:03 And you lost to Minnesota.
00:21:05 You lost to Philly.
00:21:06 So I mean, you've had a couple.
00:21:07 Yeah.
00:21:07 Yeah, it's-- listen, it's-- they're floating around 500,
00:21:10 which I can't expect them to go undefeated against these teams.
00:21:13 But you asked me if it washes away the stench
00:21:15 from the Clippers.
00:21:16 It doesn't wash it away.
00:21:17 They got absolutely embarrassed.
00:21:19 And they've gotten embarrassed a couple of times this year.
00:21:21 And so I don't like that trend.
00:21:24 I don't like the idea of just throwing
00:21:27 in the towel in the middle of these games like we've seen.
00:21:29 So I want to address this one.
00:21:31 I think people do put them all in the same bucket.
00:21:34 And they're not in the same bucket.
00:21:36 The reason people bring those up is this--
00:21:41 Celtics are good enough to sleepwalk their way
00:21:43 through most games.
00:21:45 Celtics team this year has played bad games
00:21:47 in one against bad teams.
00:21:50 Other teams-- other Celtics teams didn't do that as much.
00:21:53 They would have letdowns against bad teams, which
00:21:55 would be frustrating as hell, but more excusable than giving
00:21:59 your best shot with a full roster against a good team.
00:22:04 And losing, that tells you a little more.
00:22:05 So yes, it's not the end of the world.
00:22:08 It just means more.
00:22:10 I actually think that--
00:22:11 I think the OKC just lost to Detroit.
00:22:13 I think the let--
00:22:14 I think the emotional letdown when you look past a team
00:22:17 doesn't bother me at all.
00:22:19 It really doesn't.
00:22:20 It's annoying, but I don't rant over those.
00:22:22 I don't rant over the losses against bad teams either.
00:22:25 But when you talk about them, or when you watch them,
00:22:30 they hold more weight.
00:22:32 Because both teams want to make--
00:22:35 the Clippers came in and they had--
00:22:37 they wanted to send a message because they got friggin'
00:22:39 embarrassed.
00:22:40 It was without Kawhi.
00:22:41 They got embarrassed in LA.
00:22:43 They came here, and they friggin' put it to you.
00:22:46 Denver beat you on your home court.
00:22:47 They're getting up for you the same way
00:22:49 you're getting up for them.
00:22:50 So you're getting their best shot.
00:22:53 And it doesn't mean that--
00:22:55 It doesn't mean you're going to lose to them if you face them.
00:22:57 But you're like, OK, wow, that was a loss.
00:23:01 You'd feel better about a win.
00:23:02 In the same way-- and again, I don't
00:23:04 know why fans get this way.
00:23:07 If you rip through Denver, the Clippers, Minnesota, OKC,
00:23:13 and Philly, and we're 5-0, are you
00:23:15 telling me fans wouldn't be like, look how they've
00:23:17 played against the contenders?
00:23:18 It's both ways, guys.
00:23:20 It doesn't mean because you beat the contenders
00:23:22 you would beat them in the finals,
00:23:23 but you'll puff your chest out a little bit about it.
00:23:26 If you lose to them, you're going to be like, oh,
00:23:28 so we lost.
00:23:29 OK?
00:23:30 Kind of like knocks you down a peg or two.
00:23:32 That's it.
00:23:33 It just knocks you down a peg or two.
00:23:34 That's it.
00:23:35 Yeah, it is.
00:23:36 It is not happy.
00:23:37 No, I'm just addressing your nonsense.
00:23:39 That's all, OK?
00:23:41 You're going to be that kind of fan.
00:23:43 That's what I'm going to say.
00:23:44 That's it.
00:23:45 I'm sorry, buddy.
00:23:45 [INTERPOSING VOICES]
00:23:47 We're talking about this game.
00:23:48 We're talking about bigger picture stuff.
00:23:50 We're setting--
00:23:51 That's the thing, yeah.
00:23:51 If we're talking about just this game, yeah, I have nothing to be--
00:23:54 I'm happy that we talked about it.
00:23:57 They started off cold.
00:23:59 I love the way that they responded in the second half.
00:24:00 And they're doing this without Porzingis too, which is huge.
00:24:03 Because he's monstrous.
00:24:05 But yeah, go ahead.
00:24:06 No, I mean, I don't want to repeat myself.
00:24:07 I feel like I made it very clear that I was impressed by the way
00:24:10 that they came back in the second half.
00:24:11 They were down 11 in the fourth, I think,
00:24:13 or at least nine in the fourth.
00:24:15 And Derek White got hot.
00:24:16 Jason Tatum made some--
00:24:19 again, I tweeted about this too.
00:24:21 There was a play in that fourth quarter--
00:24:23 I think it was either the third or fourth--
00:24:25 where he got called for an offensive foul.
00:24:28 It looked like McCollum kind of flopped a little bit.
00:24:30 But he got hit in the mouth.
00:24:31 They called Tatum for it.
00:24:33 Tatum kind of waved off the ref, which maybe he got lucky
00:24:38 he didn't get teed up for that.
00:24:39 But on the very next play, what did he do?
00:24:41 He saw a pass being made.
00:24:45 And he made the steal on it off McCollum.
00:24:47 And then he made a nice pass to Holliday.
00:24:49 And Holliday went in for the and-one layup.
00:24:52 And that was off-- and McCollum fouled him.
00:24:55 So I was like, that's the response
00:24:56 you want from these guys.
00:24:57 So that was a perfect example of just, again, maybe
00:25:01 a little bit of maturity there, staying in the game,
00:25:04 staying locked in, not letting the referees or the opponent
00:25:07 get under your skin, and making the right play
00:25:09 on the very next possession.
00:25:10 And flipping the game in that way.
00:25:12 So I love that from Tatum tonight.
00:25:16 So there was a lot of good moments in this game.
00:25:18 Game in general, I liked winning a little ugly.
00:25:21 I like it being gross.
00:25:23 This felt bad.
00:25:25 It felt bad, right, for a lot of the game.
00:25:27 Didn't feel good at all.
00:25:28 Yeah, it was ugly.
00:25:29 Didn't you get into a rhythm?
00:25:30 You knew you were short.
00:25:31 You knew the personnel you were missing
00:25:33 was affecting how the game was going.
00:25:35 You weren't hitting your threes again.
00:25:37 And you're starting to worry about, uh-oh,
00:25:39 is this kind of a funk?
00:25:40 Or-- no, it's too short to say regression to the mean.
00:25:44 But we saw what happened last year,
00:25:47 ridiculously hot for a while.
00:25:49 And then it came down.
00:25:50 It was like, uh-oh.
00:25:51 So if this team went on a stretch of 10 games, 15 games,
00:25:55 shooting 32% from three, does that
00:25:56 change everything about the perception of the team?
00:25:59 So yeah, you get a little-- you see them not falling again
00:26:02 and like, uh-oh, I don't like that at all.
00:26:03 And they topped it out.
00:26:04 I like that a lot.
00:26:05 And they did it--
00:26:06 they got timely baskets from Hauser and from--
00:26:10 Hauser had a huge three.
00:26:11 Yep.
00:26:12 From whatever, Keita with the dime--
00:26:14 Keita with the play of the day.
00:26:16 The dime to Hauser for the dunk.
00:26:19 That was great.
00:26:19 Those back-to-backs were terrific
00:26:21 there in the third quarter that pushed him up
00:26:22 and gave him a lead.
00:26:23 Great-- it was a good game.
00:26:24 It was a good game.
00:26:25 I counted zero Keita tweets from Bobby, I think.
00:26:28 Counted zero.
00:26:29 So I'm curious about this comment here.
00:26:32 I don't know if that's true, actually.
00:26:34 What's that?
00:26:36 TJ537 writes, "In reality, we're missing something
00:26:40 to change our opinion of this, guys."
00:26:42 What are you talking about?
00:26:43 They could be talking about you and me.
00:26:44 They could be talking about the Celtics.
00:26:46 I do wonder if it's like, you're still waiting for that--
00:26:49 maybe you know what it is, Jimmy.
00:26:50 I might misinterpret this comment,
00:26:53 but I'm going with it anyway.
00:26:55 I guess what people are looking for is like, certainty, right?
00:27:04 You want to see that thing that makes you feel like,
00:27:08 definitely, this is it, right?
00:27:11 Because I wouldn't say you've been fooled,
00:27:13 but you've gotten your hopes up now for multiple years.
00:27:17 And I know people kind of like to ride that whole, oh,
00:27:19 the Eastern Conference finals and stuff like that,
00:27:22 which is great.
00:27:23 But the reality is you're just not good enough to get there,
00:27:25 not good enough to win it.
00:27:27 And this year feels like you are.
00:27:29 So I guess any indication that you might not be kind of
00:27:35 heightens everybody's senses.
00:27:36 We see how the chat reacts after--
00:27:38 I mean, the Clippers was, "You should have seen it here."
00:27:40 Holy crap, man.
00:27:41 This place-- I was cheering people up.
00:27:44 I was like, relax, everybody.
00:27:46 It was, "We're fine.
00:27:48 Everybody chill."
00:27:49 People were freak-fired.
00:27:51 "Joe, these guys suck.
00:27:53 Tatum's never going to win it like this.
00:27:54 Brown's contract was a waste."
00:27:56 It got grisly in here.
00:27:59 It got really, really, really ugly.
00:28:02 But that's the thing.
00:28:03 You want to just feel good, right?
00:28:05 Was it as bad as they said, in your opinion?
00:28:09 It got killed, man.
00:28:10 Obviously not.
00:28:11 But--
00:28:12 They got killed.
00:28:13 I'll say this about you, John.
00:28:15 Maybe this is just this year.
00:28:17 What?
00:28:17 You've been relatively non-panic.
00:28:21 Like, we may have to change the panic meter.
00:28:24 Because you haven't really--
00:28:25 I want to say you haven't really cared much
00:28:27 about any of these losses.
00:28:29 Because I'm kind of here.
00:28:31 I kind of think that it's--
00:28:36 nothing-- it's-- you know how you felt--
00:28:39 I'll put it this way.
00:28:40 For about 15 years covering the Patriots or longer,
00:28:45 nothing mattered.
00:28:46 Nothing mattered.
00:28:47 There were two games in the season, the AFC championship
00:28:50 and the Super Bowl.
00:28:51 Nothing mattered.
00:28:53 So they could play like ass in a game and be like, who cares?
00:28:56 They're going to go here.
00:28:57 It's so like, you realize how good this team is.
00:29:00 None of it really matters.
00:29:01 It's like, when you get to that point in the playoffs,
00:29:05 are these guys who have let you down in the past going
00:29:09 to not let you down this time?
00:29:11 It's all anyone cares about, right?
00:29:14 You know, I'm not-- before I get angry,
00:29:16 because here's why I would get angry before,
00:29:18 just to understand it.
00:29:19 Like, I didn't like these guys.
00:29:22 Like, I didn't like what they were doing.
00:29:24 I didn't think they had the pieces.
00:29:25 I didn't like the way the Jays were playing.
00:29:27 I didn't think they could do it on their own.
00:29:29 I thought they needed help.
00:29:30 I wasn't a Marcus guy.
00:29:32 I didn't buy it.
00:29:33 I never bought it.
00:29:34 I buy this team because I think they've got it.
00:29:37 So now you're just waiting till you get to the playoffs.
00:29:39 And just to see, so do they actually have it?
00:29:42 And if they do, you'll just feel good about it.
00:29:44 But I think Kes is right.
00:29:45 You're never going to get there.
00:29:47 You're never going to feel good, like so good
00:29:50 that they've got it locked up.
00:29:52 I'm never going to feel that bad because I
00:29:53 know how good they are.
00:29:55 If they're healthy, they get there.
00:29:56 That's when we're going to kind of make our decision making.
00:29:59 But I'm not getting high and low with a lot of things
00:30:01 because I've seen enough to know it's not the same thing.
00:30:04 They're able to win games like this when they're playing bad.
00:30:08 They're able to execute down the stretch.
00:30:10 They're able to win games with their defense.
00:30:12 They've won games a lot of different ways.
00:30:14 It's much different.
00:30:15 It's much better.
00:30:16 But you just got to see how it's going
00:30:18 to play in the playoffs or whether Tatum and Brown step
00:30:20 it up, all the other teams do.
00:30:23 Yeah.
00:30:23 So that's why I'm not freaking this year
00:30:25 because before I had issues, a lot of issues with the team.
00:30:28 I don't have issues with this team or how they're playing
00:30:31 or when they shoot too many threes.
00:30:32 They'll have good nights, bad nights.
00:30:34 But I like this team and I think they've got it.
00:30:36 We'll just see what happens.
00:30:37 So that's where I'm at.
00:30:38 I think there's a lot of truth to that.
00:30:41 I guess my only concern is probably
00:30:45 something that doesn't exist, which is not wanting this
00:30:49 to turn into a trend where they do lose,
00:30:51 they do start to play lazy basketball for the next 20
00:30:55 games because they're bored and they just
00:30:57 want to get to the playoffs, like you say.
00:30:59 And they know that they look at the standings
00:31:01 and they're a one seed and that it's really
00:31:03 their conference to lose.
00:31:06 I'm all about trying to build good habits going
00:31:10 into those playoffs.
00:31:10 So yeah, I'm not freaking out after a loss,
00:31:14 but I'm making a note of it and saying, OK,
00:31:16 that was a weird game.
00:31:17 This one was also weird.
00:31:19 Not this one tonight, but just game X was a weird game.
00:31:22 And trying to take--
00:31:24 what are they taking from those games?
00:31:26 Or what's Joe Mizzou take from those games?
00:31:27 Now, Joe seems to downplay a lot of these games,
00:31:31 much like you do.
00:31:31 So maybe you two are like two peas in a pod in that sense.
00:31:35 You're a lot more similar than you think.
00:31:38 I'm saying I've seen enough in the regular season
00:31:40 to feel good about the team in general.
00:31:43 I don't know what--
00:31:45 The Celtics do not have a Tom Brady
00:31:47 and they do not have a Bill Belichick.
00:31:48 And they have not ever won anything yet either.
00:31:50 So that would be where the comparison ends.
00:31:53 Jimmy, would it stun you?
00:31:55 Would it stun you?
00:31:56 I mean, again, it's like--
00:31:58 I don't believe Bill Belichick.
00:32:01 I mean, again, Miami's the eighth seed right now.
00:32:05 Would it stun you if they lost a 1-8 matchup to Miami?
00:32:08 Stun you, I mean.
00:32:09 The Celtics?
00:32:09 No.
00:32:10 No.
00:32:11 It wouldn't, right?
00:32:13 I mean, this team, yeah, I think it kind of would.
00:32:16 They just dismantled the Heat too.
00:32:17 I know that's just an example you're giving for an eighth
00:32:19 seed.
00:32:20 But to your point and to your credit, John,
00:32:22 I agree with you that this Celtics team,
00:32:25 I feel a lot better about it than I have the past team.
00:32:28 So yeah, that would stun me.
00:32:30 But I've talked about this already.
00:32:31 The second round is not going to be easy.
00:32:33 You're going to end up probably with the Pacers, maybe.
00:32:36 That's what I mean.
00:32:37 It's like, I picked the Heat because even that wouldn't
00:32:40 be a cupcake.
00:32:40 No, it wouldn't be either.
00:32:41 But in the second round, Pacers, Knicks, whomever,
00:32:47 all of that feels like far from a certainty.
00:32:52 So yeah, I think they're better than these teams.
00:32:54 I've been getting experience.
00:32:56 I think they have--
00:32:56 I think there actually is a slight separation between them
00:32:59 and the Pac in this year.
00:33:01 I think it's them and then everyone else.
00:33:02 I don't think they're that far behind.
00:33:04 But I think that the 2, 3, 4, 5 are actually pretty tightly
00:33:08 packed together.
00:33:09 And the Celtics, I think, are a bit above them.
00:33:12 But until we get there, we're not going to know.
00:33:15 That's kind of--
00:33:15 They are a bit above them.
00:33:17 Just to explain, that's just to explain why I'm not--
00:33:21 Yeah.
00:33:21 I mean, the seven-game series switches--
00:33:25 changes things up, too.
00:33:26 I mean, coaching becomes more important, I think,
00:33:28 in a playoff series.
00:33:29 Adjustments, mid-series, becomes a little bit more
00:33:32 of a chess match.
00:33:33 So how do you feel about that?
00:33:35 I guess that's something that you'll cross.
00:33:36 And then, again, just going out and doing it.
00:33:40 We keep saying that they can do it.
00:33:42 They can do it.
00:33:43 But we need to actually see them do it.
00:33:45 We do.
00:33:45 We do.
00:33:46 We're going to hear from Joe Mazzuolo.
00:33:48 We're going to hear from Bobby Manning.
00:33:50 Ridiculous things from Bobby.
00:33:51 I'm preparing you guys.
00:33:52 I'm telling you.
00:33:53 I just went through his tweets.
00:33:55 I went through his tweets.
00:33:56 And yeah, he's like, five straight points
00:34:00 off Zion turnovers, bop, bop, bop.
00:34:02 You know what I mean?
00:34:02 It's like stuff like that.
00:34:03 He's just--
00:34:04 Agenda.
00:34:04 Agenda.
00:34:05 It's agenda.
00:34:06 Agenda.
00:34:08 We also have an agenda here.
00:34:10 This thing doesn't work.
00:34:11 It's too low.
00:34:14 Too low.
00:34:15 Doesn't work.
00:34:16 Move the ticker.
00:34:17 My lower third doesn't work.
00:34:18 Well, just get rid of the ticker.
00:34:21 Oh, but my lower third doesn't work.
00:34:24 I don't know why that is.
00:34:26 There you go.
00:34:26 You got rid of the ticker.
00:34:27 Now it works.
00:34:29 Now it works.
00:34:31 Dudes.
00:34:33 Hey.
00:34:34 We went from 150 to 200 in bonus bets.
00:34:37 Why?
00:34:38 Frickin' Super Bowl, baby.
00:34:39 Happy Super Bowl.
00:34:40 Hell yeah.
00:34:41 To all those who celebrate from FanDuel,
00:34:45 America's number one sports book,
00:34:46 the official partner of the NFL, and the official wagering
00:34:49 partner of the CLS Media Network.
00:34:51 And if you're like me, Jimmy, are you like me?
00:34:54 No, thank God.
00:34:55 But go on.
00:34:56 OK.
00:34:57 Super Bowl Sunday is all about scoring the best
00:34:59 seat on the couch, grabbing your favorite football snacks.
00:35:02 Jimmy has a go-to.
00:35:03 What is it again?
00:35:04 Buffalo something?
00:35:06 Oh, Buffalo chicken dip?
00:35:08 Buffalo chicken dip.
00:35:09 That's your thing.
00:35:10 That's your agenda, right?
00:35:10 Oh, Super Bowl, you've got to have--
00:35:12 I mean, everyone's got to have a Buffalo chicken
00:35:13 dip at the Super Bowl, amongst other things.
00:35:15 But yeah, you've got to have that.
00:35:15 Amongst other things.
00:35:16 And placing some super bets.
00:35:19 So again, we've moved it up here, OK?
00:35:21 Super Bowl 58, FanDuel.
00:35:23 This is the fun stuff right here.
00:35:26 Love it.
00:35:26 Props galore.
00:35:27 Tons of them.
00:35:29 A lot of good stuff that you can check out here.
00:35:31 And if you go to FanDuel.com/Boston,
00:35:34 200 in bonus bets, up from 150.
00:35:37 Now it's 200 bonus bets.
00:35:38 That's awesome.
00:35:40 So many good--
00:35:41 All you've got to do is bet $5.
00:35:42 That's it.
00:35:43 Yeah, do it now.
00:35:44 Oh, I'm sorry.
00:35:44 I take it back.
00:35:45 If your first $5 bet wins, you've got to win one.
00:35:48 OK?
00:35:48 You've got to bet $5 and win one.
00:35:49 Visit FanDuel.com/Boston to sign up.
00:35:52 Once again, FanDuel.com/Boston.
00:35:56 You can put the ticker back now.
00:35:57 Look at all these podcasts at the bottom here.
00:35:59 You look at Hags.
00:36:02 Hags, Max, Bedard, Garden Report.
00:36:05 Oh, so good.
00:36:06 What about Hags?
00:36:06 What are we talking about?
00:36:07 Just at the bottom, you get to see all our podcasts.
00:36:10 It's pretty cool.
00:36:10 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:36:11 Anyway--
00:36:12 OK, gotcha.
00:36:12 Go check it out.
00:36:13 Go check out FanDuel.
00:36:14 All right, heading back to the game.
00:36:15 One last thing.
00:36:17 One last thing on FanDuel.
00:36:19 OK, yeah.
00:36:20 I tossed in a quick--
00:36:22 I tossed in a bet at halftime on the Celtics plus 2 and 1/2.
00:36:25 That's how Vegas had this game tonight,
00:36:32 because the Celtics were down by whatever it was they were down.
00:36:35 Plus 2 and 1/2.
00:36:36 I think it was a little before halftime.
00:36:39 Do we want to hear from Weird Joe?
00:36:40 You got to keep the live bets.
00:36:42 You got to check FanDuel during the game.
00:36:45 If you think the Celtics are--
00:36:47 let's say the Celtics are down 10 or 12,
00:36:49 but you don't think they're playing horrible.
00:36:51 That's good value.
00:36:52 You put in a live bet.
00:36:53 Put in your $5 FanDuel bet.
00:36:55 Celtics make their comeback.
00:36:58 You win the bet, and then you've got $200 to work with
00:37:00 for the Super Bowl.
00:37:01 OK.
00:37:02 I'm down.
00:37:05 It's a value bet.
00:37:06 I'm down.
00:37:08 We've addressed this one, Ethan.
00:37:12 I don't know.
00:37:13 Here's what I'll say.
00:37:15 Here's what I'll say about it.
00:37:16 Yes.
00:37:21 Yes-ish.
00:37:25 But also, Eamon is the type of guy
00:37:27 that a team could tune out also, because he's hard,
00:37:32 and he could be a bit of an ass.
00:37:34 And sometimes people don't want to hear that.
00:37:36 So you never know who the right guy for what team is.
00:37:38 I'll say this about Eamon.
00:37:39 I'll put it to bed once and for all.
00:37:41 Eamon was the right guy for the team he coached.
00:37:46 Jimmy.
00:37:47 Eamon was the right guy.
00:37:49 Couldn't help himself.
00:37:50 That's what she said.
00:37:50 Eamon was 100% the right guy for that team he coached.
00:38:00 That team needed a slap upside the head.
00:38:03 And he gave it to him, and he turned him around,
00:38:05 and he made them a frigging killer,
00:38:07 and he got them to the finals.
00:38:08 I don't know if he's the right guy for this team.
00:38:10 I don't know.
00:38:10 So yeah.
00:38:12 I'm going to answer that by saying I think
00:38:13 that it hurt them last year.
00:38:15 I think Eamon gets them back to the finals,
00:38:18 and I think they maybe even win it.
00:38:20 But I thought they lacked toughness last year,
00:38:21 and we saw that against the Heat.
00:38:23 And I don't think it matters this year.
00:38:26 I don't think Eamon thinks it matters at all this year.
00:38:28 So it's over and done with.
00:38:31 Yeah, it's over and done with.
00:38:32 It's over and done with.
00:38:34 You may or may not love Joe, but I
00:38:36 think continuing with the Eamon stuff I think
00:38:38 is silly at this point.
00:38:40 If you didn't like Joe, you could have gotten someone else.
00:38:42 So at this point, it's on management.
00:38:45 If you want to be the Bucks and Brad
00:38:47 doesn't think Joe's the guy, you can do the Adrian Griffin
00:38:49 right now and get spicy with it.
00:38:51 You got assistance on there too.
00:38:53 If you really didn't like the guy, great.
00:38:56 You've got options.
00:38:57 You're the Celtics, OK?
00:38:59 So you can do something.
00:39:00 In the balls.
00:39:02 But I don't know what I'm throwing to here,
00:39:05 but I'm told Joe did weird stuff a couple of times.
00:39:08 Here's the first one.
00:39:09 I don't know how weird this is, but this
00:39:11 was Joe talking about expectations or entitlement,
00:39:14 I should say.
00:39:14 And I can't tell if he's digging at his team
00:39:17 or the unfair expectations around it.
00:39:21 You brought up the sense of entitlement a couple of times.
00:39:24 I don't think it's the team, personally.
00:39:26 I think it's just this general narrative of this
00:39:28 is supposed to go our way all the time.
00:39:30 So do you think that's just outsiders thinking
00:39:33 the Celtics should be wiping everybody off the court?
00:39:36 I didn't say that.
00:39:37 So can you just tell me what this is?
00:39:42 Yeah, I just think it just happens.
00:39:44 It just happens.
00:39:46 It's just like being down 10 in the NBA
00:39:50 is really not foreign to the 99th percentile of the NBA.
00:39:55 That happens all the time.
00:39:56 And so at halftime, I said that.
00:39:58 I was like, what are you doing?
00:39:59 It's a 10-point game.
00:40:00 It's three possessions in an NBA game.
00:40:03 Or the idea of having to battle for a win, earn a win,
00:40:07 it's like, Celtics have to earn a win tonight?
00:40:10 It's like, yeah, playing in the NBA.
00:40:13 It's a good team.
00:40:14 And so we can't lose sight of the fact
00:40:16 of we have to earn a win every night.
00:40:18 It's going to be just as hard tomorrow.
00:40:20 Doesn't matter if the record's 5-20 or they're undefeated.
00:40:23 You see it all around the league.
00:40:25 So it's fine, but it's, again, it's
00:40:30 Joe versus the media, and basically like--
00:40:33 Is it?
00:40:33 I didn't even--
00:40:34 Yeah, I'll tell you why it is.
00:40:36 It's actually-- I speak Joe now.
00:40:38 I can decipher this pretty easily.
00:40:41 OK?
00:40:41 What it means is you all think we're king shit,
00:40:49 and we should come out here and eviscerate
00:40:51 every team that's lower than us.
00:40:53 And NBA teams are good, and we have
00:40:56 to play hard out of the time.
00:40:57 And sometimes it's going to be ugly,
00:40:59 and we're not perfect either.
00:41:00 And it's about the process, and it's about how we go about it.
00:41:04 But if we don't go out there and blow these teams out,
00:41:06 you guys ask us questions about how we didn't do this
00:41:09 and didn't do that, or blah, blah, blah.
00:41:11 And basically, it's your expectations of the team.
00:41:15 Entitlement is the wrong word, because entitlement makes
00:41:20 it sound like it's the players.
00:41:22 What he means is the media expectations
00:41:24 or the outside expectations of the team
00:41:27 and how the narrative around the team
00:41:30 is shaped by it, which is if you don't kill them,
00:41:32 you did something wrong.
00:41:34 And what he's doing is defending his team against that.
00:41:37 Makes sense?
00:41:38 Yeah, that makes sense the way you put it.
00:41:39 I took it a little bit more where
00:41:41 he was telling his players, like, hey, yeah, we--
00:41:44 none of this is given.
00:41:45 He's in his feelings again, but yeah.
00:41:47 Yeah.
00:41:48 Yeah, and it's fine.
00:41:49 I mean, sure.
00:41:51 I get that.
00:41:51 I get that.
00:41:52 So he's basically just saying--
00:41:53 I think people are saying it too.
00:41:55 Tatum's got it, yeah.
00:41:57 Right, I think--
00:41:58 But it's also the excuses for poor play.
00:42:01 I think there's just a lot of defense of the team, you know?
00:42:05 So--
00:42:06 Or is he telling his guys, like, you don't have the opportunity
00:42:09 to coast.
00:42:09 When you do, this is what happens.
00:42:11 Like, we do need to play hard.
00:42:12 Doesn't matter who you're playing.
00:42:13 We need to play hard, and we need to compete.
00:42:15 It's the NBA, and it's the 1% of the 1% in the world.
00:42:21 And if you take nights off, you're
00:42:24 going to end up sitting the second half,
00:42:25 or you're going to sit in the fourth quarter,
00:42:26 because things got out of hand quickly.
00:42:28 I don't know if that had any part of that message,
00:42:32 or if it's just strictly him saying,
00:42:34 what do you guys expect?
00:42:35 Of course it's going to be hard.
00:42:36 It's the NBA.
00:42:37 Yeah, like, we're human.
00:42:39 We play different games.
00:42:40 These are good teams.
00:42:41 But I think it's kind of like, you guys get hard on us
00:42:46 when we're not being this way.
00:42:47 It's, again, a little bit of oversensitivity,
00:42:50 but I don't give a crap.
00:42:51 I just don't get it after a win.
00:42:53 I don't know what the line of questioning was there,
00:42:55 but that's what it was.
00:42:58 I'm also told he and Bobby had a weird exchange.
00:43:01 In this, I'm already nervous to play.
00:43:03 I don't know what it is, but--
00:43:04 [LAUGHS]
00:43:06 I don't know what it is.
00:43:07 Just play it.
00:43:08 I'm going to play it.
00:43:10 Joe, you talked a lot before the game about pulling lessons
00:43:12 from a game.
00:43:13 Do you even pull lessons from a half after that first half,
00:43:16 especially the way you came out in the second
00:43:18 and applied them on some of those runs,
00:43:19 and even some of the runs they went on in the second half?
00:43:23 I'd like to get your take.
00:43:24 You thought the second quarter was bad?
00:43:25 25 points.
00:43:27 We only gave up 24.
00:43:29 Yeah, but in terms of the offense,
00:43:31 how that went better in the second half.
00:43:32 Yeah, I mean, I think that's the key, right?
00:43:34 I think the first half, there's this sense of entitlement
00:43:37 where we're just supposed to play amazing basketball every
00:43:39 quarter, every game, and that's just not how it works.
00:43:42 And like I said to the guys at halftime,
00:43:44 it felt like we gave up 24 points.
00:43:47 It was 25 to 24.
00:43:48 We won the quarter after giving up 36.
00:43:51 And so this expectation of it's supposed
00:43:53 to go a certain way all the time,
00:43:55 it can be extremely unhealthy.
00:43:56 And we have to just continue to play,
00:43:58 regardless of whether down five, up eight, it doesn't matter.
00:44:02 And so I thought the momentum changed for us
00:44:04 in the second quarter when we finally started to defend,
00:44:08 gave up a 24-point quarter.
00:44:10 Loved the process of the shots that we got in the second
00:44:12 quarter, and we can't be defined by a result.
00:44:16 And so if we're going to only play--
00:44:18 we're only going to feel good about ourselves
00:44:20 when the ball's going in, then that's a recipe
00:44:21 for short-term success.
00:44:23 And I thought that was what the issue was in the second quarter
00:44:25 but I thought we played great.
00:44:26 So I would say that three quarters of basketball
00:44:29 was kind of who we were.
00:44:32 OK, so that must have been asked before the second clip
00:44:37 that we played-- the first clip that we played,
00:44:38 because that makes more sense that he's
00:44:40 talking about expectations on the outside, not on the inside.
00:44:46 You know what I mean?
00:44:47 I just said--
00:44:48 I've said this before.
00:44:49 We can pick on Bobby.
00:44:51 You guys can't pick on Bobby.
00:44:54 So I don't like that, Joe, but that's OK.
00:44:56 Again, it's the--
00:44:58 It's clear that he's talking--
00:44:59 it's clear that what you said, your interpretation
00:45:03 of his first clip that we played,
00:45:05 it's clear that you were right on that.
00:45:08 And I honestly don't mind these things.
00:45:09 I just don't even know why you need
00:45:11 to be defensive in a win here.
00:45:13 These aren't scathing, difficult questions at this point.
00:45:18 I'm confused by it, but yeah.
00:45:20 I just don't see--
00:45:21 I don't see the--
00:45:22 I don't see the need.
00:45:23 I don't see-- I don't see what's--
00:45:24 I don't see what's--
00:45:26 both the questions, I just don't see the benefit of it.
00:45:30 I don't get it.
00:45:31 Well, yeah, I mean, listen, they scored 25 points
00:45:35 in the first-- in each of the first two quarters.
00:45:37 Like, typically, that's low scoring for them.
00:45:39 So I think it's fair for Bobby to bring up that aspect of it.
00:45:43 Yeah, OK, they clamped down a little bit
00:45:44 on the defensive side, but the whole point of what he was
00:45:47 talking about was offensively.
00:45:48 So yeah, I don't really see the need to ask.
00:45:53 It's like, you actually don't care what Bobby thinks
00:45:55 of the first of the second quarter.
00:45:56 So don't say, oh, I'm interested in what you think.
00:45:58 You tell me.
00:45:59 No, you actually don't give a shit.
00:46:01 So whatever.
00:46:04 And this is exactly right.
00:46:06 This is basically what--
00:46:08 here's the thing.
00:46:09 Here's the secret.
00:46:10 It's not a secret.
00:46:12 Every player in every sport and every coach in every sport
00:46:16 thinks everyone asking them a question knows nothing,
00:46:20 and they're right.
00:46:22 Nobody in that room knows what they're talking about
00:46:26 within a mile of these guys.
00:46:29 They're not even close.
00:46:31 The things that these guys see and the complexity of the game
00:46:36 and how they view it--
00:46:37 and I'm talking everything--
00:46:40 angles, how they approach--
00:46:41 I mean, they are--
00:46:44 they dissect it in such a granular level.
00:46:46 We're just Neanderthals trying to say,
00:46:49 even the people who think they know stuff
00:46:51 don't know anything.
00:46:53 And so yes--
00:46:55 Oh, you know a ball.
00:46:57 You know a ball, John.
00:46:58 This is the contract between know-nothing reporters
00:47:02 and the people who answer the questions.
00:47:05 You kind of let it go, because if you
00:47:09 had this feeling all the time, every answer
00:47:11 would be like this, every single one.
00:47:14 Because nobody is entitled to ask a question,
00:47:16 because they don't understand on a level, on a high enough level
00:47:20 to be able to question these guys about why did this happen
00:47:23 and how did this go that way.
00:47:24 It's just about the kind of the professional exchange
00:47:27 and the dance that you do in the back and forth.
00:47:29 That's all it is.
00:47:30 And some people call it out.
00:47:31 You know?
00:47:33 And Joe likes to call it out.
00:47:36 But again, nobody in that room knows--
00:47:40 like I said, everyone in that room,
00:47:42 even the people who know basketball great,
00:47:45 had just graduated kindergarten.
00:47:46 And Joe has a PhD.
00:47:48 Like it's not even close.
00:47:50 But I don't think--
00:47:51 And that's not insulting.
00:47:52 It's not insulting.
00:47:54 They're that good.
00:47:55 They're that good.
00:47:56 Right, but I'm not going to speak
00:47:58 for any of the other reporters.
00:48:00 But when I was covering teams, I didn't go in there--
00:48:04 I went in there to try to ask questions
00:48:06 so that I could relay the information
00:48:08 and explain it to other people who also don't know anything.
00:48:11 Tell me what happened.
00:48:12 Yeah, so I think that originally was what the reporter's job was.
00:48:16 Well, then they feel challenged.
00:48:17 It's kind of evolved over the years now, where everyone
00:48:19 is an analyst too.
00:48:20 And they want to break down the film.
00:48:22 And by all means, please do.
00:48:24 But I think that's where there's maybe more of a back and forth
00:48:28 between reporters and coaches, reporters and players,
00:48:30 when the reporter wants to tell you
00:48:34 or wants to shape the question in a way that's
00:48:36 kind of insinuating something or telling you something
00:48:39 that you're doing wrong or whatever,
00:48:41 instead of just asking and saying, hey,
00:48:44 I'm just asking this question so that I
00:48:45 could fill a quote for my story on what happened tonight.
00:48:47 You know what I mean?
00:48:48 So it's just changed over the years.
00:48:50 But I can understand why players or coaches would be like,
00:48:53 dude, shut up.
00:48:54 When they feel challenged, when they feel challenged,
00:49:00 what is it you saw that you didn't like?
00:49:02 Basically, they might be asking a relevant question.
00:49:05 He just doesn't think you have the right to the question.
00:49:07 And again, they're not wrong.
00:49:10 So I get where they're coming from on it.
00:49:13 I think that's kind of what it is there.
00:49:16 But yeah.
00:49:17 Don't come at Bobby.
00:49:18 Only we come at Bobby.
00:49:20 Only we do that.
00:49:21 We're going to wrap this in a little bit.
00:49:23 I'm not waiting for Bobby if he's going to take an hour.
00:49:25 Just not going to do it, Jimmy.
00:49:26 Joe Sway there?
00:49:28 You know what?
00:49:29 I'm handing the show to those guys.
00:49:32 Yeah, I thought they'd be on by now.
00:49:34 We're almost an hour in.
00:49:36 Yeah, we're almost an hour in.
00:49:38 These guys aren't supposed to make you wait after a win,
00:49:42 right?
00:49:43 No, they're not.
00:49:44 Maybe they're talking to Zion.
00:49:45 Maybe they're snacking in the visitor's locker
00:49:51 and with the rest of the Pelicans.
00:49:52 What do you think?
00:49:53 Does Pacers tomorrow on a back to back,
00:49:55 you think Porzingis plays?
00:49:58 I'm going to say yes.
00:49:59 I do think he plays.
00:50:01 He wants to play.
00:50:02 I saw him all-- he was all practicing, wasn't he?
00:50:04 Or I saw him like some video shooting around or whatever.
00:50:06 I think that they know Al's not going to play tomorrow.
00:50:09 And so they said, let's hold Porzingis out one more.
00:50:12 I kind of think so too, right?
00:50:15 They keep saying they're not worried about the ankle.
00:50:17 So OK, if you're not worried about it, then put him in there.
00:50:19 Let's see what's going on.
00:50:20 All right, John.
00:50:21 We'll hang a little bit.
00:50:23 Thank you for the plea.
00:50:25 I need this.
00:50:26 I need this.
00:50:27 [LAUGHS]
00:50:29 We all need this.
00:50:31 My kids haven't been in school for eight days, buddy.
00:50:33 Oh my god, yeah.
00:50:34 That's crazy.
00:50:35 Any progress today?
00:50:38 No, this is my strike beard.
00:50:41 Yeah.
00:50:42 What's your opinion?
00:50:43 No, I'm just kidding.
00:50:44 Don't answer that.
00:50:45 No, you don't want to hear it.
00:50:46 [LAUGHS]
00:50:48 Yeah, that's tough.
00:50:51 Yeah, it's a tough situation over there.
00:50:52 So for people who don't know, John
00:50:55 lives in Newton, Massachusetts.
00:50:56 And all the teachers are on strike.
00:50:58 [LAUGHS]
00:51:00 So he's-- what are you?
00:51:02 Are you playing like Daddy Daycare over there?
00:51:05 This week?
00:51:06 A little bit.
00:51:07 Wow.
00:51:08 I'm looking after 18 kids tomorrow.
00:51:12 Wow, thoughts and prayers to all those children.
00:51:14 I know, exactly.
00:51:16 How does that end up happening?
00:51:18 Is that to force the teacher's hands?
00:51:20 Say, look what you're doing to our kids.
00:51:22 This animal.
00:51:24 [LAUGHS]
00:51:25 Look what they're forced to listen to.
00:51:27 Fessenden, yeah, my daughter practices soccer there.
00:51:30 Just sit them in front of the Garden Report.
00:51:32 No, one of the parent organizations,
00:51:35 they arranged it where some middle schoolers are trying
00:51:39 to entertain kids at the basement of this such and such.
00:51:42 And they need a parent to keep them from dying.
00:51:46 And I'm that guy tomorrow.
00:51:48 Oh, wow.
00:51:49 Yeah.
00:51:49 Well, good luck.
00:51:50 Yeah.
00:51:52 Good luck to the kids, not to you.
00:51:54 Good luck to the kids.
00:51:55 Good luck to the kids.
00:51:57 Yeah, I'm that guy.
00:51:59 Jimmy, you're Pacers tomorrow.
00:52:00 What do you think?
00:52:01 Listen, you know I'm a huge Pacers guy.
00:52:06 But I'm very intrigued by the Pacers after this trade
00:52:12 that they made.
00:52:15 I do think that they're easily a top four team.
00:52:18 I think I had said top three.
00:52:21 But it's hard for me to really say one way or the other
00:52:24 if they're better than the Sixers or the Bucs
00:52:26 until I see a little bit more with them.
00:52:30 But was it the last game they played
00:52:34 where Halliburton got hurt?
00:52:35 I think it was in the middle of that game.
00:52:38 We did that split.
00:52:39 So--
00:52:40 Yeah, I teach ball.
00:52:42 I want to see them--
00:52:43 I want to see both teams' full strength going at it.
00:52:45 Oh, Zervas, I'm right down the street.
00:52:47 We're in danger.
00:52:48 Anyway, go ahead.
00:52:50 You don't actually care.
00:52:52 I do care.
00:52:53 Halliburton--
00:52:53 No, I'm just excited for the game.
00:52:54 --got hurt, that last one.
00:52:55 I'm excited for the game.
00:52:56 It's just two like hot, like entertaining teams.
00:53:00 Both have really good offenses.
00:53:01 I like what the Pacers do to teams.
00:53:04 They really make you run.
00:53:08 They make, again, it's like,
00:53:10 I said this to Bobby or whoever, I think it was Bobby,
00:53:12 or no, it was you.
00:53:13 If you're the Celtics, you can't fall into their trap,
00:53:18 which is playing their game,
00:53:21 which is shots, shots, shots, shots, offense, offense,
00:53:25 offense, offense, offense.
00:53:26 It's very rare that you're going to out-offense the Pacers.
00:53:29 What you need to do is try to slow them down,
00:53:31 play hard on the defensive end, and get physical with them.
00:53:34 That's the one thing I'll say about the Pacers.
00:53:37 I don't like playing the Pacers, yeah.
00:53:39 - Get out and run.
00:53:40 - You have to be tough and physical with them.
00:53:44 Slow them down, knock them to the ground, don't be dirty.
00:53:48 But I don't think the Pacers wanna get
00:53:49 into a defensive game with anybody.
00:53:52 They wanna just shoot, they wanna be flashy,
00:53:54 they wanna dance around.
00:53:55 Tyrese Halliburton wants to be Steph Curry 2.0 now,
00:53:59 and all this stuff.
00:54:01 And I think the Celtics can't fall into that trap.
00:54:05 They can't let, what's his name?
00:54:07 What's his name?
00:54:07 Mac, Mac, my guy, McConnell, TJ McConnell.
00:54:11 They can't let TJ McConnell run the show,
00:54:13 like they did last year.
00:54:14 - I don't like this notion of slow.
00:54:17 - John, they can't let TJ McConnell run laps around them.
00:54:21 - That's all that happened last time.
00:54:23 Make shots, defend.
00:54:25 Just, you know, that's it.
00:54:28 - You have to defend, but you can't get
00:54:30 into a running gun type game with this Pacers team.
00:54:32 That's what they want.
00:54:33 They wanna maximize possessions more than you do.
00:54:35 So McConnell was the X factor in that game
00:54:41 after Halliburton went out and they had no answer for him.
00:54:43 They just let him run around and run laps around them.
00:54:45 So I like that they have some film to go off of now
00:54:48 after that, because that was unacceptable.
00:54:50 I'm excited for the game.
00:54:53 - That's my take, what's yours?
00:54:55 - I think Nick is taking over effective immediately.
00:54:58 - Oh God, that would be something.
00:55:03 - Yeah.
00:55:04 - That would be a boomer's show.
00:55:07 - Yeah, so yeah.
00:55:09 And that's, yeah, that's where we're at.
00:55:11 Jimmy, are you comfortable rapping?
00:55:13 - Whoa, did we hear from Bobby at all?
00:55:16 I'd like to get his take.
00:55:18 - No idea.
00:55:20 - Where the F are you?
00:55:22 - So I will agree with this comment, Soda Pop.
00:55:26 I did not for one second doubt
00:55:32 the 2018 was winning the title.
00:55:34 I didn't at any point in time.
00:55:38 Throughout the course of the whole season,
00:55:40 they struggled in a real crap seven game series
00:55:43 with Atlanta.
00:55:44 It was the most lopsided seven game series
00:55:45 in the history of sports.
00:55:47 They won every game they won, they won by like 35 points.
00:55:50 And then they lost, you know.
00:55:51 - That was tough. - That was a weird series.
00:55:53 And then they just, I just never,
00:55:55 they just never let up.
00:55:56 I never at any point thought they weren't gonna win that.
00:56:00 I actually felt the same way about that team
00:56:01 up until KG got hurt in 2009 too.
00:56:04 I was like, they're gonna steamroll to a title this year.
00:56:07 And so you're right, that's a little different.
00:56:10 But there's more parody now.
00:56:13 There's so many good teams.
00:56:14 There's so much talent in the league.
00:56:17 It's crazy.
00:56:18 It's some really, really, really good--
00:56:20 - And you can't even win the way that they won anymore.
00:56:24 You can't win playing defense
00:56:25 the way that they were able to do it.
00:56:27 Like you can't be physical the way that they were physical.
00:56:30 You can't have a guy like, you know,
00:56:33 I feel like Garnett wouldn't even be in the,
00:56:36 sounds crazy to say, but Garnett wouldn't be able
00:56:38 to do half the stuff that he was able to do probably
00:56:40 for most of his career.
00:56:41 So yeah, it's a different league now.
00:56:45 There's talent all the way up and down.
00:56:48 Maybe that's what Mizzou was talking about a little bit
00:56:50 and like, hey, like none of these games are given.
00:56:54 They all have to be earned.
00:56:55 That's what we can expect, I guess, competitive,
00:57:01 competitive left, nothing from Bobby, nothing from Josue.
00:57:05 - Nothing we can do guys.
00:57:06 They're deep.
00:57:08 Yeah.
00:57:09 - What else is going on?
00:57:13 What else has gone on in the league right now?
00:57:15 Anything?
00:57:16 I think we're interviewing Sean McVay's dentist
00:57:19 and his barber tomorrow to see if they can, you know,
00:57:24 they might be interested in the offensive coordinator.
00:57:26 - Oh my God.
00:57:28 You might as well at this point.
00:57:29 Can we do Patriots for a second?
00:57:33 While I wait for Bobby, can we just do a few minutes?
00:57:34 - Okay.
00:57:35 - Can I just, I'm gonna throw it to you
00:57:38 because I wanna make sure
00:57:39 that I'm not taking crazy pills here.
00:57:41 Patriots obviously had a problem, front office, coaching,
00:57:44 all the way down.
00:57:46 So they got rid of Belichick,
00:57:48 which I think they probably should have done
00:57:51 and they needed to do.
00:57:53 But why did it just end there?
00:57:54 I didn't think it was gonna stop there.
00:57:56 I thought that that would have just been like,
00:57:59 everybody was going after that.
00:58:01 Instead, it's the complete opposite.
00:58:03 They're hiring people who have been with the team,
00:58:06 who left the team, who coming back with the team.
00:58:08 This guy, Kaylee, who was the freaking tight ends coach
00:58:11 for like five years in New England.
00:58:14 And then he just went to be the tight ends coach
00:58:17 in St. Louis.
00:58:18 It's not like he got it.
00:58:19 You know what I mean?
00:58:19 It's like, and now all of a sudden he's qualified
00:58:21 to be the offensive coordinator.
00:58:22 Nobody knew who this guy was
00:58:24 for his entire time in New England.
00:58:27 And by the way, the tight ends absolutely sucked
00:58:29 for the past like five years here.
00:58:32 I mean, has a tight end done shit?
00:58:34 Excuse my language.
00:58:35 So I'm not thrilled about that as an offensive coordinator.
00:58:38 They signed a defensive coordinator with no experience
00:58:40 as a defensive coordinator.
00:58:42 And I'm team Mayo, but he has no experience either.
00:58:45 So very, very interesting.
00:58:48 And they're not hiring a GM.
00:58:49 So I don't know who's running this ghost ship currently.
00:58:52 I really don't know what's gonna happen.
00:58:54 I, you know what it is, John?
00:58:55 I'm like, I didn't know it was gonna be this bad
00:58:59 when it all ended.
00:59:00 I knew it was all gonna end,
00:59:01 but I just didn't know that it was,
00:59:03 we were gonna be faced with a situation
00:59:05 of like total doom and gloom.
00:59:07 And I mean, total doom and gloom.
00:59:09 I thought that there'd be a couple of guys hanging out.
00:59:12 I thought there'd be a guy waiting to coach.
00:59:14 I thought there'd be some good players.
00:59:16 There is nothing.
00:59:19 So that's my Patriots rant.
00:59:22 And maybe I'm overreacting, but I don't think that I am.
00:59:25 I think I'm pretty realistic.
00:59:27 Now, the only saving grace is that they absolutely
00:59:30 nail this third overall pick.
00:59:32 That's their only saving grace.
00:59:34 And I'm not saying I know who it is,
00:59:37 but they just have to nail it.
00:59:38 It's not my job to know who it is.
00:59:41 It's just my job to complain about it
00:59:43 if they don't nail it.
00:59:44 - Yeah, I'm already mad.
00:59:47 Every draft I get pre-mad,
00:59:49 'cause I'm just waiting for it to be angry about the pick.
00:59:52 - Yeah.
00:59:54 - So I don't know.
00:59:55 I can't go into it.
00:59:58 I'm in a good head space right now.
01:00:02 - I just need to say that's weird too,
01:00:06 'cause I don't have anywhere else to,
01:00:09 my friends don't wanna hear me anymore.
01:00:11 I'm completely tuned out by them.
01:00:15 So I need to say it to anybody who will listen.
01:00:18 - Yeah, it's bad.
01:00:21 And look, I said this once and I'll say it one last time.
01:00:25 I do not understand this obsession with continuity.
01:00:35 People who are familiar with the system,
01:00:37 the Patriot Way, this guy coached here, he knows us.
01:00:41 Oh, higher from within.
01:00:42 Look, I don't give a crap if the dudes are aliens
01:00:46 and I don't care who you bring in here.
01:00:49 This idea of the Patriot Way somehow continuing on
01:00:54 post-Bill and Brady is ludicrous.
01:00:58 It's ludicrous.
01:01:00 Just get good people.
01:01:02 I don't care where they're from.
01:01:05 Why do you think recycling people
01:01:08 who have some experience here is the right play?
01:01:12 I don't get it.
01:01:13 There is nothing to continue.
01:01:15 As I've said, nothing.
01:01:17 The ML car, Chris Ford Celtics were not a continuation
01:01:22 of the Casey Jones, Larry Bird.
01:01:24 They're not.
01:01:26 Like it doesn't matter.
01:01:27 - No, they weren't, John,
01:01:28 but we lost a lot of Celtic pride over that stretch,
01:01:32 post Bird.
01:01:33 - But then--
01:01:34 - Things went very fast.
01:01:35 And then it had to slowly come back.
01:01:36 - Celtics pride isn't a thing.
01:01:38 Celtics pride was Red Arbor--
01:01:40 - Oh, contraire, my friend.
01:01:42 It is a thing.
01:01:43 - It was those dominant teams that own the NBA
01:01:46 and then a really great run from those guys.
01:01:50 It was just dominance year after year after year.
01:01:52 The second they're gone, you're just another team.
01:01:55 There's no, it doesn't,
01:01:56 pride and all of that doesn't translate over.
01:01:59 Every team has a pocket of time in their history
01:02:02 they can draw back from and be like,
01:02:04 oh, this was the good old days.
01:02:06 You know, like when we played like this
01:02:08 and when we won title, doesn't matter.
01:02:10 Like the Celtics just had a much, much longer one.
01:02:12 But when you're 40 years removed from it, you know,
01:02:14 like the Patriots five years from now,
01:02:17 the Brady Belt, it's over.
01:02:18 It's been over.
01:02:19 There's nothing resembling those Patriots anymore.
01:02:22 Completely gone.
01:02:23 - You just need good players.
01:02:24 You need good players and the pride comes back.
01:02:25 - You just need good everything.
01:02:26 I don't care where you get them, right?
01:02:29 - Sure.
01:02:29 No, I don't care where you get them either.
01:02:30 You just got to get them and you got to keep them.
01:02:32 And that's how you sort of,
01:02:33 that's how you instill a new Patriot way
01:02:36 with the new crop of players.
01:02:37 It's not going to have anything to do with
01:02:39 the guys who were there.
01:02:40 It doesn't have nothing to do with Teddy Bruschi
01:02:43 and Willie McGinnis and Tom Brady.
01:02:45 And it just, I guess, nothing to do with
01:02:47 the second iteration of them,
01:02:49 Edelman and Gronk and whoever else.
01:02:51 It's going to be a new crop of players,
01:02:53 but you got to get them in the door
01:02:56 and you got to keep them
01:02:57 and you got to build around those guys.
01:02:58 You don't, yeah, it's not carrying over.
01:03:01 It's a new generation.
01:03:03 - What carries it over is the fans and the interest.
01:03:06 So if you keep winning like the Celtics did,
01:03:08 it stays that way because the passion is there.
01:03:11 It means something because it means a lot
01:03:12 to a lot of people.
01:03:13 You dip in and out, you lose people along the way.
01:03:16 And so it matters less.
01:03:18 And so this notion of like it being a thing is great,
01:03:21 you know, but like the Celtics, like I said,
01:03:23 they've won one title in 40 years, you know,
01:03:25 like most people, most NBA fans currently are like, what?
01:03:30 You know what I mean?
01:03:31 It's like, it's great, but Boston is great.
01:03:34 Like we like basketball.
01:03:35 So when basketball's good here, everything is great,
01:03:38 you know, and that's kind of what makes it a big thing.
01:03:40 It's the fans, honestly, more than it is like
01:03:43 the playing for the Celtics.
01:03:45 So the fans here are what make it, you know,
01:03:48 are what make it good.
01:03:49 So anyway, that's it.
01:03:51 We're an hour in and we don't have Bobby and Josue.
01:03:53 I got no choice but to wrap it, Jimmy.
01:03:55 - I got one more question for you.
01:03:56 Thoughts on the Lions choke job last night.
01:04:00 Do you blame Dan Campbell?
01:04:01 Like what's your take?
01:04:04 - I don't blame Dan Campbell.
01:04:06 I would have kicked the field goal for sure,
01:04:07 but I don't blame Dan Campbell.
01:04:09 I don't, the most egregious thing was running a run play
01:04:13 when you had three timeouts and you had to burn one
01:04:16 on the goal line there, forcing an outside kick.
01:04:19 That's the only super egregious thing.
01:04:22 I don't get not kicking the field goal there
01:04:26 because you might still get the ball back.
01:04:28 So just play it, play it even.
01:04:30 Take just, it's now a seven minute game.
01:04:36 You know, go out there, stop them or let them score
01:04:38 and then go score again.
01:04:39 But you want to be within one score.
01:04:41 It's the most important thing, you know,
01:04:43 like that really, really matters.
01:04:44 So I might've, that's, I would have kicked the field goal,
01:04:47 but you know, he can get some-
01:04:49 - Analytics ruining the game?
01:04:51 - No, that's the dumbest thing ever.
01:04:52 And I'm so tired of these boomers
01:04:54 that are out there and say it.
01:04:56 Those guys never surface when that shit works, you know?
01:05:00 They never do.
01:05:01 I've been saying this my whole life.
01:05:05 I'd be going for fourth down everywhere on the field.
01:05:08 I think it's so dumb that you keep giving the ball back
01:05:11 to the team.
01:05:11 Fourth and one everywhere you go for it.
01:05:14 And finally teams started doing it,
01:05:15 like Philly, Tush pushing on their own 20.
01:05:19 Great, keep the ball.
01:05:21 People are freaking out about that too.
01:05:23 - No, I love it.
01:05:24 So, all right, we're going to wrap.
01:05:25 We got another one tomorrow.
01:05:26 So no garden presents tonight.
01:05:29 We apologize, but we'll see you guys later.
01:05:31 All right?
01:05:33 - Stay for the outro.
01:05:34 - We'll stay for the outro.
01:05:35 - Wait, Ahmed's got an outro for us, I think.
01:05:37 - No, he doesn't.
01:05:38 - He said he was going to work on an outro.
01:05:41 - He had a phenomenal game.
01:05:43 - Phenomenal.
01:05:44 - Four for down, I think it's an odd one.
01:05:48 (laughing)
01:05:51 - That did not sound like a chair.
01:05:53 - It was a freaking chair.
01:05:54 It does sound like a chair.
01:05:56 (upbeat music)
01:05:58 (upbeat music)
