00:00:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:04 Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:06 Hard hats, lunch pails, steel-toed boots.
00:00:09 Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:11 Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:13 You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:15 Somebody said we need to apologize for Jaylen.
00:00:17 Can I pull the John?
00:00:18 What are we apologizing for?
00:00:20 What did we say?
00:00:21 What did we do?
00:00:21 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:25 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:30 Yeah.
00:00:31 I was told the music trails.
00:00:34 It trails-- oh, there it is.
00:00:35 Too late, Amit.
00:00:36 Too late.
00:00:36 Too late.
00:00:37 Too late.
00:00:37 Damn it, Amit.
00:00:39 Hopefully he was busy making my meme.
00:00:41 We did get a trailing.
00:00:43 We got a trail last night.
00:00:44 We trailed last night.
00:00:45 But it takes great focus and concentration.
00:00:49 Doesn't it?
00:00:49 Celtics trail tonight.
00:00:51 Came back.
00:00:52 Good win.
00:00:53 Grant Williams' revenge game.
00:00:55 Grant Williams still picking up his face from the floor
00:00:58 after Tatum blocked him at halftime.
00:01:01 Yeah, that was about as tough as that could have gone.
00:01:06 For him, yeah.
00:01:07 That was tough.
00:01:07 And then Tatum stared him down after.
00:01:10 That was nice, too.
00:01:12 Oh, I was rooting for Grant tonight.
00:01:14 The fans gave him a lot of crap out the door.
00:01:16 I was hoping he'd come back and lay a little punch on them.
00:01:21 Maybe the Celtics still win, but he has a good game.
00:01:23 But not quite.
00:01:24 1 of 5, minus 3.
00:01:27 3 rebounds, 2 points.
00:01:31 Womp, womp.
00:01:32 Yeah, that's how he's been playing.
00:01:36 That's just it.
00:01:36 And kind of a salty foul on Brown in the second half,
00:01:39 it looked like.
00:01:39 It was a little salty.
00:01:40 And Jalen was like, I'm going to let that go.
00:01:42 I'm going to let it go.
00:01:43 [LAUGHTER]
00:01:46 Grant must just--
00:01:47 Because I feel bad for you, OK?
00:01:49 I'm going to let it go.
00:01:50 Because you're so annoying, I'm just
00:01:53 going to make a point to not acknowledge what you just did.
00:01:58 And then he was like, laughed about it.
00:01:59 I think somebody on Grant's team was like, yeah, he's annoying.
00:02:02 And Jalen Brown just laughed at it.
00:02:04 Was it Kyrie?
00:02:05 No, surprisingly.
00:02:07 It was somebody else.
00:02:08 All right.
00:02:09 Shut up and--
00:02:11 Here we go.
00:02:11 Do the JB clock and let's go.
00:02:15 Guys, give me some credit.
00:02:16 Give me some credit.
00:02:17 Go ahead, Amit.
00:02:19 Did we make it?
00:02:20 We didn't make it.
00:02:21 No, there's just a ticking.
00:02:22 Yep.
00:02:23 All right.
00:02:23 You're on the clock.
00:02:24 No, no, no.
00:02:25 I mean, enough.
00:02:27 You're on the clock.
00:02:28 No, you're on the clock.
00:02:29 Enough.
00:02:30 Cut it.
00:02:30 The story of the game is obviously we gave the Jays grief yesterday.
00:02:38 But really, it was more Tatum.
00:02:41 Tatum and Brown, when this looked like it was going to be another,
00:02:45 let's just chuck it, three-point game in the early part of the first quarter,
00:02:51 all of a sudden Tatum just kind of got serious.
00:02:54 And then both the Jays got really serious.
00:02:56 And then they just took over the game completely.
00:03:02 Is Brown-- did-- does Luka do something to Jalen?
00:03:05 Did he-- like, did he, like, stuff him in a locker when they were kids
00:03:10 or, like, kick his dog or something?
00:03:12 Like, Jalen was, like, playing angry tonight against--
00:03:16 I mean, he seemed like he really hated Luka.
00:03:20 It was an angry game.
00:03:21 I think it was honestly, John.
00:03:23 I think-- and this is what I've been waiting for.
00:03:26 And I'm not saying it hasn't happened.
00:03:27 But I like to see it as often as I can, Jalen Brown getting up
00:03:31 for these big matchups and showing that he
00:03:33 can be one of the better two-way players in the NBA.
00:03:36 That's what I want to see from Jalen Brown as much as I want to--
00:03:39 and I've almost resigned myself to the fact that, like, listen,
00:03:42 if this guy can just go out and get you 30 a night, just be a bucket, fine.
00:03:46 But on the nights where he actually takes on the task of defending
00:03:51 the other team's star and does it well and makes it a point to, like,
00:03:55 really make the other guy work, that's when I'm cool with the contract.
00:04:00 And I'm cool with what the Celtics had to do.
00:04:02 And I'm cool with Jalen Brown.
00:04:04 Be that two-way player, and everything's going to be gold, baby.
00:04:08 And tonight was--
00:04:09 honestly, it might have been one of his best games, like--
00:04:12 probably one of his best all-around games as an NBA player.
00:04:15 I don't know if that's, like, saying too much.
00:04:17 But I honestly feel that way.
00:04:18 No, I was going to go there, too.
00:04:19 For Jalen?
00:04:20 You saw the impact on both ends.
00:04:22 And he has the great block on Luka early, the one on Cleaver at the end.
00:04:27 And then you talk about the hunting.
00:04:28 The crossover.
00:04:29 Yeah, the hunting.
00:04:30 We can't talk about Jalen without the crossover.
00:04:31 The hunting of Luka and making him work.
00:04:33 And he still ends up with a tremendous game and a triple-double
00:04:35 and all that.
00:04:36 But you saw it wear on him at times.
00:04:38 Tremendous game.
00:04:38 He was, like, 10 for 100, you know?
00:04:41 Yeah, I wouldn't say tremendous.
00:04:42 He missed free throws down the stretch.
00:04:45 He--
00:04:45 No, yeah.
00:04:46 But he--
00:04:46 He backs.
00:04:47 Brown made him work.
00:04:47 He does bunnies.
00:04:48 Brown made him work.
00:04:49 And he had to fight to keep the Mavericks in at the rope,
00:04:52 because no one else on the Mavs was certainly helping him out there
00:04:55 along the way.
00:04:56 So it just basically became the Luka Isak show.
00:04:58 He was 12 of 30 with 33 points.
00:05:00 And he was lucky, because he got a few--
00:05:01 Yeah, I mean, four of the misses were on the same possession.
00:05:04 It was.
00:05:04 But he got superstar foul calls, too, on plays that he barely got touched.
00:05:09 So again--
00:05:09 He got angry.
00:05:10 He got a little bitchy.
00:05:11 He's kind of a bitch.
00:05:12 He's a tough guy.
00:05:14 He's a tough guy to defend.
00:05:15 Brown did a great job with it.
00:05:16 He's really tough, because he's going to get where he wants to get.
00:05:19 He gets to his spots.
00:05:21 And he knows how to use his body.
00:05:22 But he complains all the time and whines and moans and bitches.
00:05:26 Celtics attacked him every single time on offense.
00:05:29 It was ridiculous.
00:05:30 It did.
00:05:32 Every time.
00:05:32 I love that.
00:05:33 Didn't matter.
00:05:34 Loved it.
00:05:34 Didn't matter.
00:05:36 Yeah, he didn't like it.
00:05:37 He actually got teed up after Brown crossed him up.
00:05:42 That's a hell of a stat.
00:05:43 Is that true?
00:05:45 I don't have the turnovers in front of me.
00:05:47 But I know--
00:05:47 Blorp said it.
00:05:48 That's my source.
00:05:50 That's my source.
00:05:51 I trust Blorp.
00:05:53 That's what I'm going to do for all my--
00:05:55 Zero turnovers for them.
00:05:56 Love it.
00:05:57 Blorp.
00:05:57 Yeah, I mean, they had a slow start to this game, Bobby.
00:05:59 We were texting about it, I think, right off the bat.
00:06:01 Shots were not calling.
00:06:02 3 of 15.
00:06:03 And then Tatum got hot in that first quarter,
00:06:05 kept the team in it through one.
00:06:08 And then everybody else started to follow suit in the second quarter there.
00:06:11 Holiday got in on the action for a bit.
00:06:13 And some shots from the outside.
00:06:14 Jaylen Brown picked it up right there.
00:06:16 And yeah, this was a really good win.
00:06:19 And the way it started, I did not have high hopes
00:06:22 after what we had seen over the last week with some iffy play here.
00:06:28 I like how they brought it tonight.
00:06:30 And that's, again, without Porzingis.
00:06:31 So you got to mention that as well.
00:06:33 One of their best guys not in this one.
00:06:34 And so good performance.
00:06:37 And I just love what both Tatum and Brown showed out a little bit tonight.
00:06:42 And again, just going back to Brown, the back-to-back possessions on Luka
00:06:47 really just kind of humbled him there, I think,
00:06:49 with the crossover that really embarrassed him.
00:06:52 And he was pissed off.
00:06:53 And then he got a little jumpy.
00:06:56 And Brown got him to bite.
00:06:59 And then he got teed up after that.
00:07:00 And he sat down.
00:07:01 Sat his ass down after that.
00:07:03 Got a little jumpy.
00:07:04 Got a little jumpy.
00:07:06 See you, John.
00:07:06 John got a little jumpy, too.
00:07:09 Yeah, I mean, you're seeing him take another leap here, Jimmy,
00:07:12 into this year.
00:07:13 And it didn't seem possible after last year.
00:07:15 Didn't seem possible probably after two years ago
00:07:18 when he had a great season then.
00:07:19 So you're looking at him right now and saying,
00:07:23 what's possible for him at this point?
00:07:24 Like, you're seeing the playmaking improve to a high level.
00:07:28 You're seeing the defense now probably be about as good
00:07:31 as it was ever seen from him.
00:07:32 And it was a topic about a week ago, two weeks ago now.
00:07:36 But now I don't think there's any doubt
00:07:38 that he could be in that All-NBA discussion again, Jimmy.
00:07:41 And that seemed like it was going to be a one-time thing,
00:07:43 weird year where Zion and LeBron and Durant and all
00:07:47 these guys didn't play a bunch.
00:07:48 So he sneaks into that third team.
00:07:51 You're looking at him potentially
00:07:54 being a perennial guy if this is what it's going to be.
00:07:56 Obviously, he's going to be an all-star here.
00:07:58 But the fact that he's in that mix on this team
00:08:01 with the conversations we had early about how
00:08:04 is he going to fit in.
00:08:05 And he's probably got the toughest adjustment
00:08:07 of anyone on this team.
00:08:08 Well, he struggled a little bit with that.
00:08:11 He did.
00:08:11 Yeah, and he figured it out.
00:08:13 And I think we saw it in real time
00:08:15 that week where the zero assist games happened.
00:08:17 And he was putting in a lot of work
00:08:20 at the shoot-arounds and the practices,
00:08:22 doing three-on-threes with the coaches,
00:08:23 just going through those motions, tons of film.
00:08:26 I mean, we always had the discussion about just how much
00:08:29 work he puts into his basketball skill set.
00:08:32 And I don't think there's any doubt that he's just
00:08:35 gone all in on that.
00:08:36 And certainly, he's done the underwater workouts
00:08:39 and the weight training's probably for him
00:08:42 been absolutely insane given the muscle he's put on here.
00:08:47 But you're seeing the skill set now too.
00:08:49 And it's not just the scoring.
00:08:50 It's the reads.
00:08:51 It's the defense.
00:08:52 It's the attention to detail.
00:08:53 Those are the things that have put him
00:08:55 at another level this year.
00:08:56 And we've always debated, John, can he
00:08:58 get better in those areas?
00:08:59 And I think he has this year.
00:09:01 Are we still talking about Jalen?
00:09:03 Yeah, I actually didn't even get to Oregon.
00:09:05 Bobby just went on.
00:09:06 We thought that you excused yourself from the conversation.
00:09:08 [LAUGHTER]
00:09:11 We had a ghost ship running for a minute there, John.
00:09:13 [LAUGHTER]
00:09:17 Yeah, Bobby, I agree.
00:09:18 I mean, look, I--
00:09:20 You know--
00:09:20 Facts, my dog.
00:09:22 No, no, no, I mean, I hate kind of throwing around
00:09:25 like generalities like playing with purpose and stuff
00:09:28 like that.
00:09:28 But really, doesn't it come down to that so often?
00:09:31 It's like today is the choice to play the right way.
00:09:37 And then any knocks in the past would be the freestyling it,
00:09:41 coasting, taking some plays off from him and Tatum,
00:09:44 the inconsistencies from two superstars.
00:09:46 When you're talking inconsistencies,
00:09:48 you're talking about the inconsistencies of two
00:09:50 all-NBA players.
00:09:52 It's not that inconsistent.
00:09:54 It's just you're expecting the world
00:09:56 and you're expecting perfection.
00:09:57 And in those moments where you need it
00:09:59 and in the big moments and sometimes in big games
00:10:01 or the playoffs, when it's not there, everybody goes bananas.
00:10:05 But as far as evolution goes, it's
00:10:07 always been about, with both those guys,
00:10:11 making the right reads.
00:10:12 And the coaches always say it.
00:10:14 Mazzullo's obsessed with it.
00:10:16 And how many times does he say after games
00:10:18 where the box score doesn't match up,
00:10:20 made the right read, made the right read, made the right read.
00:10:23 That's what it is every time.
00:10:24 Do the right thing with the ball.
00:10:26 Do the right thing.
00:10:28 Don't go charging into traffic, spinning with no idea
00:10:30 where you're going to go or decide
00:10:32 you're going to shoot it regardless of what
00:10:34 the defense is doing ahead of time.
00:10:35 And you still have those hero ball moments.
00:10:37 It's just do the right thing.
00:10:39 Do what you need to do in that moment.
00:10:40 Make the right decision with the ball and just play.
00:10:43 And then there's also when Brown decides
00:10:45 to play with that snarl.
00:10:46 And that knocks him up even another level.
00:10:48 Because then you get the intensity on both ends.
00:10:50 I think at the Harden game last year, where he's like,
00:10:52 F that, he's getting nothing.
00:10:55 And that was one of the best games we've seen him play.
00:10:57 Because he was fired up the whole time.
00:10:59 And he's locked in with his focus.
00:11:01 So he was a killer tonight.
00:11:04 Yeah, that's where he's at his best.
00:11:05 And I think you're talking about with him,
00:11:07 in terms of the consistency, putting him in the best
00:11:09 positions to succeed.
00:11:11 The one individual matchup on defense, I think,
00:11:13 is always a good formula for him.
00:11:15 That's always been where he's at his best defensively.
00:11:17 So you're probably doing the schemes in this game
00:11:20 to keep him there.
00:11:21 And then on the offensive end, it's him in the corner.
00:11:24 It's him cutting.
00:11:26 It's him catching the ball close to the basket
00:11:29 and going by guys.
00:11:30 Grant had no chance on one of those drives.
00:11:32 Tarr away, easy matchup for him in the post.
00:11:35 I think the post play for him has gone a little bit
00:11:37 underrated this year, too.
00:11:38 Tatum obviously had a great start there.
00:11:40 Brown can hit that turnaround.
00:11:42 I know you've talked about that, John, just
00:11:44 being a great shot for him.
00:11:46 And then the finishing, it's always
00:11:48 the urgency he uses to get them going and transition.
00:11:51 And I don't think anyone will expect this,
00:11:58 but his pick and roll numbers are through the roof.
00:12:01 OK.
00:12:05 I don't know.
00:12:05 You tell us.
00:12:07 You know what I like is this--
00:12:08 no, what?
00:12:09 It says you're muted, Bobby.
00:12:10 It shouldn't be.
00:12:11 I'm going to unmute you.
00:12:13 I can't unmute you.
00:12:15 You're going to have to work this out on your own.
00:12:17 Bobby, say something.
00:12:20 He's here.
00:12:20 He's talking.
00:12:21 I got him now.
00:12:22 Yeah, so--
00:12:23 Go ahead.
00:12:24 For a split second, your mic muted itself.
00:12:26 Go ahead.
00:12:27 What the hell?
00:12:31 Wait, what just happened?
00:12:33 Look at this boomer right here.
00:12:34 Look at this boomer right here.
00:12:35 Look at this boomer.
00:12:37 What is happening?
00:12:39 Ah, miss!
00:12:39 Yeah, so he's coming in at number two,
00:12:46 but he's narrowed the gap with Derek White.
00:12:49 107 for Derek White, 9-1 for Dylan Brown,
00:12:53 which is better than Taylor's 8-7.
00:12:55 So his production of "Hick and Roll"
00:12:57 has been great this year, too.
00:12:58 And those are the strides he's made this year.
00:13:01 It's really great to see, because again, John,
00:13:04 we were hitting the panic button early this year.
00:13:06 A lot of people were.
00:13:07 It was like, how is he going to fit in on this team?
00:13:11 My mind is all over the place right now.
00:13:13 I just got to know where Joe Sway came from.
00:13:15 Amit, you got to talk to me.
00:13:17 Did you build an audio drop as--
00:13:19 Yeah.
00:13:20 --you started dropping it, or did that happen organically?
00:13:24 [INTERPOSING VOICES]
00:13:25 [LAUGHTER]
00:13:29 Now Jimmy's coming in out of nowhere.
00:13:31 Listen, Amit's just getting funky
00:13:34 with things behind the scenes.
00:13:35 You know what I love about this?
00:13:36 I like the ticker.
00:13:37 How about the ticker, guys?
00:13:39 I don't even think I noticed that last show, John,
00:13:43 the ticker with all the stats going.
00:13:45 Yeah, you're going to never miss a stat now.
00:13:47 Yeah, Drew Holiday, there it is, 17 points.
00:13:49 A quiet 17 from Drew Holiday, seven rebounds, six assists.
00:13:53 This will be the new show.
00:13:54 We'll just read through the ticker.
00:13:56 Yeah, as Amit just blasts soundbites over all of us.
00:14:00 I'm afraid to talk.
00:14:03 Wow.
00:14:03 So is he-- is he all NBA, John?
00:14:07 Is he going to be all NBA again?
00:14:09 I don't care.
00:14:10 You don't care?
00:14:12 Wow.
00:14:12 Bobby, I'm not their spokesperson.
00:14:14 I don't give a crap who makes all NBA.
00:14:16 But if he was struggling, he'd be all over him, John.
00:14:19 No, because it doesn't matter.
00:14:21 Bobby, we went over this.
00:14:22 When Marcus Smart won all defensive
00:14:24 and you thought that meant something, it doesn't.
00:14:26 It's an award.
00:14:27 It doesn't matter.
00:14:28 Like, nothing matters.
00:14:29 He won Defensive Player of the Year.
00:14:31 It doesn't matter.
00:14:32 Like, it doesn't make him better.
00:14:35 He's the same guy we watched whether people voted him in
00:14:37 or not.
00:14:38 It's how they play.
00:14:39 The votes don't matter.
00:14:41 Whether they make all NBA, who cares?
00:14:43 That's not important.
00:14:44 It's not important.
00:14:46 I don't care if Tatum makes it.
00:14:47 I don't care if anybody makes it.
00:14:48 Yeah, John, you're not going to vote for him, though?
00:14:52 It's a reflection on how he's playing now.
00:14:54 Did you tweet your all-star vote?
00:14:56 It's a reflection on how he's playing.
00:14:58 And the way he's playing now, most importantly,
00:15:00 is helping them win night in and night out.
00:15:02 The defensive, I heard Max on the radio
00:15:04 saying he's not getting enough credit for the defense.
00:15:06 And it's true.
00:15:07 Look--
00:15:08 He came into the year asserting that that
00:15:11 was going to be central to his game.
00:15:12 And he's done it.
00:15:14 I wouldn't say he's done it consistently, though.
00:15:16 There hasn't been a bunch of--
00:15:18 I think he has.
00:15:19 He's improved, I think.
00:15:20 I think he's putting a little bit more effort into it
00:15:22 than he used to.
00:15:23 But if you think that his ceiling is
00:15:27 one of the all-defensive teams, then he's
00:15:30 nowhere close to that.
00:15:31 He's been nowhere close to that.
00:15:33 Yeah, it depends on how--
00:15:34 All NBA mattered for one reason only.
00:15:37 Guys, we all did this.
00:15:39 We were on the same team.
00:15:40 It mattered to lock Jalen in, to get his money,
00:15:44 to make it so leaving Boston was far less of an option
00:15:48 than if he didn't.
00:15:49 Because if he didn't get it, you might
00:15:51 have had a situation with him in a contract year.
00:15:54 It mattered hugely last year.
00:15:56 Now it's just awards.
00:15:58 It doesn't matter.
00:15:58 I don't even know why we're talking about whether he
00:16:01 gets it or not.
00:16:01 It just doesn't matter.
00:16:03 Because it's a reflection on his season.
00:16:05 Oh, yeah, exactly.
00:16:06 Because honestly, you want idiot voters out there to be like,
00:16:10 wow, their scoring is down.
00:16:12 They're probably not as good this year.
00:16:14 Because that means they're playing better.
00:16:16 Because they're sharing the ball,
00:16:17 and the team is winning more.
00:16:19 What I care about is the 34 wins.
00:16:22 That's what you're supposed to care about.
00:16:24 The rest of the process is--
00:16:25 They're not going to win if Katie and Brown are playing
00:16:28 all NBA-type basketball.
00:16:30 It's probably what Bobby's saying.
00:16:32 Now it's also-- again, it's a little bit too early
00:16:35 in the year to talk about all NBA teams.
00:16:37 We haven't even gone to the All-Star break yet.
00:16:39 But I think that he is trending in that direction, Bobby,
00:16:43 where he's going to make a good case for one of those teams.
00:16:45 I don't know which one.
00:16:46 The ring is the thing.
00:16:48 This is not team dislander.
00:16:50 And that's the other thing.
00:16:52 Back to the money point.
00:16:53 I know none of us are going to make a big deal about the money.
00:16:55 But if he's playing at that level,
00:16:58 that makes him worth the money.
00:16:59 I know we always said, oh, the money is just a formality.
00:17:02 So again, if he has a great year,
00:17:04 plays exactly the way he's playing now,
00:17:06 and people don't vote him All-NBA,
00:17:09 that matters to you for some reason?
00:17:11 He's still the same guy.
00:17:13 It doesn't--
00:17:13 Yeah, I think about being in the mix.
00:17:15 --playing well is all that matters.
00:17:16 I'm so confused by this.
00:17:18 I don't think Bobby cares about the award.
00:17:21 He's just saying, is he playing at that level?
00:17:23 Yeah, he's in the mix.
00:17:23 He's going to get votes.
00:17:24 He's going to be there.
00:17:25 And maybe he'll make it.
00:17:27 Maybe, but people might look at it and say, oh, he's scoring
00:17:30 less and not make it.
00:17:32 It doesn't matter.
00:17:32 He's playing better.
00:17:34 That's what matters.
00:17:35 He's playing better.
00:17:36 It doesn't matter if voters recognize it or not.
00:17:38 Yeah, I mean, we're basically saying the same thing.
00:17:40 Back to the defensive point, Jimmy.
00:17:42 Damn it, John.
00:17:43 41% opponents shoot against him this year,
00:17:46 which is the best on the team by two points over Porzingis.
00:17:50 And that's on 10 shots a game that he's defending.
00:17:53 So he's definitely improved on that side.
00:17:58 [LAUGHTER]
00:18:00 That's it.
00:18:00 Jake.
00:18:01 He'll be a great--
00:18:04 No, Bobby, I have to--
00:18:05 Yeah.
00:18:06 --appearance, yeah.
00:18:07 I'm not saying he's a bad defender.
00:18:08 What I'm saying is I just don't--
00:18:11 maybe I'm just not-- maybe I'm a little bit behind on seeing it
00:18:15 than you are because you have an astute basketball mind.
00:18:17 But I don't look at him and say he's shutting people down yet.
00:18:22 I just don't do that.
00:18:23 Now, again, not to take any--
00:18:24 I don't want to have to--
00:18:25 I don't want to have to bring Jaylen Brown down tonight
00:18:27 because I think he had a--
00:18:28 I just said earlier that I think he was one of his best
00:18:30 all-around games.
00:18:30 What I saw tonight makes me--
00:18:33 or reminds me what he is capable of on a nightly basis,
00:18:37 second night of a back-to-back, going up
00:18:39 against one of the best players in the NBA, arguably the best--
00:18:42 you could argue that he's the best scorer in the NBA
00:18:44 or best all-around-- one of the best all-around players
00:18:47 in the NBA.
00:18:48 He's averaging a damn near triple-double, Luka is.
00:18:50 And yeah, he put up numbers tonight,
00:18:52 but he had to really work for it.
00:18:53 And I think there were a lot of points in this game
00:18:57 where he was working so hard to--
00:19:00 and I think it actually hurt the Mavs in ways
00:19:02 because they got away from going other guys.
00:19:05 Again, you've got other options out there in Kyrie
00:19:09 and things like that.
00:19:12 So I don't know.
00:19:12 I just felt like Jaylen Brown had a great game tonight,
00:19:15 and I'm just going to leave it at that.
00:19:16 I'm not going to start extrapolating it,
00:19:19 if that's a word, into the season.
00:19:22 OK.
00:19:23 I want to get to--
00:19:24 it's kind of interesting Jimmy says that because it plays
00:19:27 into something that Bobby texted us prior to the show, which
00:19:33 was something that Joe Mazzullo said regarding tonight.
00:19:36 And I wonder whether or not there
00:19:38 was maybe a message delivered after last night's win.
00:19:41 And we'll kind of go into that.
00:19:44 First off, and I hate to get heavy,
00:19:46 but I think it's important, and I
00:19:47 wanted to wait till there were more people in the room here,
00:19:50 that we here at the Garden Report
00:19:55 would like to extend our condolences to the Kyd family.
00:19:59 Colleague of ours and a friend of CLNS Media, Doug Kyd,
00:20:01 who covers the Patriots for the Boston Herald.
00:20:04 Doug and his family suffered an unspeakable tragedy
00:20:08 as their daughter Hallie passed away over the weekend
00:20:11 after a courageous nine-month battle with AML.
00:20:14 That's a type of cancer.
00:20:16 She passed away three months short of her third birthday.
00:20:20 Needless to say, no child or parent
00:20:22 should ever have to endure something like this,
00:20:24 and the Kyd family needs all the love and support
00:20:26 they can get right now.
00:20:28 And you can help.
00:20:29 There's a link in the chat to the GoFundMe page of the Kyds.
00:20:34 And I don't know if you have that.
00:20:35 We can put it up here.
00:20:37 But what we will also say-- and you can go directly to the link
00:20:40 and there it is right there.
00:20:43 All Super Chat donations go to the Doug Kyds family.
00:20:47 Or you can go directly to the link yourself
00:20:49 with GoFundMe.com/help, and you can see the website right
00:20:53 there.
00:20:53 And we'll leave it up for a little bit.
00:20:55 But any donations you make here, all proceeds from tonight
00:20:58 will go to the Kyd family.
00:21:01 They need love and support.
00:21:02 So open up your hearts, Garden Report family,
00:21:04 and open up your wallets and show them the love here.
00:21:07 And as I said, whether you go directly to the GoFundMe page
00:21:10 or you make it here, we will send the donation
00:21:12 care of the Garden Report family on everyone's behalf here.
00:21:18 So again, wanted to throw that out there.
00:21:20 And I will leave this up for a minute
00:21:22 and
00:21:36 it's
00:21:42 a really, really tough.
00:21:44 Wow, thank you.
00:21:45 Dudley.
00:21:45 Dudley Chippinham with $100.
00:21:46 Just like that.
00:21:49 And every last cent that the Garden Report gets from this
00:21:54 is all going to go to that fund.
00:21:56 And I know Doug just from covering sports,
00:21:59 and he's a great dude.
00:22:00 And I just feel, obviously, thoughts and prayers
00:22:04 are going out to him and his family.
00:22:05 Every little bit helps.
00:22:06 It's not going to obviously change what's happened.
00:22:09 But anything that we can do to help them move forward
00:22:13 is the least we can do.
00:22:15 And we appreciate it, guys.
00:22:17 We appreciate it from all of you, whether it's a Super Chat,
00:22:20 you're here directly, it's easy to do that.
00:22:21 Obviously, YouTube takes a cut off of that.
00:22:24 You want to go direct and go right to the GoFundMe page.
00:22:26 It's all good.
00:22:27 But as I said, anything that comes in into the show
00:22:29 tonight, even if you missed this message
00:22:31 and you just sent out a Super Chat
00:22:33 because you wanted to make fun of me,
00:22:35 I'm sending that to the Kaid family too.
00:22:37 So again, thank you all for contributing.
00:22:40 And God bless you all.
00:22:42 And if you're watching back, if you're not watching live,
00:22:44 just go straight to that link.
00:22:46 If you guys are watching it tomorrow morning,
00:22:48 if it's-- what day is it?
00:22:49 Yeah, Tuesday morning, go to that link, and you can--
00:22:53 It's never not a good time.
00:22:55 So yes, so thank you very much for everybody there.
00:22:57 We'll send out another reminder as well later on the show.
00:23:01 But we do appreciate it.
00:23:02 We see stuff coming in.
00:23:03 And every little bit helps.
00:23:04 So we really do.
00:23:04 Can you post a link in the chat, John?
00:23:06 Or is it just in the screen?
00:23:09 That's from the chat.
00:23:11 It's in there.
00:23:13 It's pinned to the chat as well.
00:23:17 So back to the game.
00:23:18 And again, we do appreciate everybody here.
00:23:20 And Amit, can you pull that off the screen?
00:23:22 I want to go back to just the regular stuff here.
00:23:23 They keep saying post a link in the chat.
00:23:25 So I don't know.
00:23:26 If you could post it in the chat as well, that would be great.
00:23:29 And if anyone wants to go directly there, please do.
00:23:33 I'm a little buried under the 130.
00:23:36 We're getting some nice donations.
00:23:38 Thanks, guys.
00:23:39 Amit, how did we get this way again?
00:23:41 Kyle Richards, MSUS, Must 31, Soda Pop, Jake Eisenberg.
00:23:48 Thank you, everybody.
00:23:49 Kyle.
00:23:50 Impressive stuff, guys.
00:23:51 Impressive.
00:23:51 We really do.
00:23:52 I mean, they will appreciate it.
00:23:57 So back to what we were talking about earlier.
00:23:59 And we will get to the game.
00:24:00 And we do appreciate it.
00:24:01 And by all means, spread the love.
00:24:03 And share with whoever you want.
00:24:04 If you see it-- you saw that post on Twitter,
00:24:07 repost it, tweet it to everyone else.
00:24:11 Anything you can do, as we said, it all helps.
00:24:13 So we do appreciate it.
00:24:14 And I'm sure the Kaid family will as well.
00:24:17 Before the game, Bobby, you mentioned something here about--
00:24:22 and I want to pull up the quote from Joe.
00:24:26 Joe Mazzulla, pregame, urging the Celtics
00:24:29 to avoid playing into, quote, "narratives."
00:24:32 And it said-- the quote here was--
00:24:37 the one thing we talked about--
00:24:39 we showed it on our screen the other day.
00:24:41 I don't know what--
00:24:42 but I guess he's talking about--
00:24:44 I don't know-- film or-- anyway, the NBA is full of narratives.
00:24:49 It must be film.
00:24:50 You have a choice to fall into a narrative at any time.
00:24:53 Dog days of January, it's the second night of a back-to-back.
00:24:56 There's always a narrative to latch onto.
00:24:58 We've got to make the choice every day
00:25:00 to play the right way.
00:25:01 And most of the time, we do.
00:25:02 Sometimes we don't.
00:25:04 That's as close as we've heard Joe Mazzulla coming to saying,
00:25:08 not always happy with the effort of these guys.
00:25:11 And so I guess it makes you feel a little better
00:25:13 if you were in the annoyed camp when they kind of pissed away
00:25:16 a lead against Houston, or you watched them not show up
00:25:19 against Milwaukee on the second night of a back-to-back.
00:25:21 And you've seen a week or so of not the best efforts.
00:25:27 And every reason to lose this game--
00:25:30 and Papa Nick throwing it out here as well.
00:25:34 Thanks, Nick.
00:25:35 Thank you, Nick.
00:25:36 Yep.
00:25:38 So--
00:25:41 Yeah, that quote shot off the--
00:25:42 It felt like he was setting the table for a bad game tonight.
00:25:49 Or I warned them, don't have a bad game tonight.
00:25:53 Like, don't do it, guys.
00:25:54 Remember E-May his first year?
00:25:56 There was a game, I forget which one, the shoot-around.
00:25:58 They had the bad shoot-around.
00:26:00 And after the loss, he was like, I
00:26:01 knew we were going to lose tonight,
00:26:04 right from the shoot-around.
00:26:05 And obviously, they didn't have a shoot-around today
00:26:07 and it was a back-to-back.
00:26:08 But there's something he obviously sensed.
00:26:11 Maybe from recent games, as you mentioned there, John.
00:26:14 Was it going right in terms of their approach and habits
00:26:19 or just consistency this month as a whole, maybe?
00:26:22 Of course, I was on the ground there in Milwaukee that day
00:26:26 that they lost that awful game and everybody
00:26:28 got benched at halftime.
00:26:30 And his message that night was the assertive,
00:26:33 this doesn't matter.
00:26:34 These guys show up.
00:26:35 These guys compete.
00:26:36 Nothing to see here.
00:26:38 So a little bit of a shift in that sense.
00:26:40 And obviously, I think you got it there, John.
00:26:43 A message-free game that I'm sure you shared with the team
00:26:47 as well to not not show up, if you know what I mean.
00:26:51 You better show up and do the right things in this game.
00:26:54 And it was scary early, right?
00:26:56 Because they were just launching shots.
00:26:58 They were missing.
00:26:59 They weren't putting up the best individual efforts since.
00:27:03 They weren't putting up the best individual efforts
00:27:06 across the board on the defensive end there.
00:27:08 So this got off to a shaky start, a scary start.
00:27:11 But they self-corrected pretty fast.
00:27:12 I am interested to see what Joe says afterward.
00:27:15 It was kind of the turning point there.
00:27:16 I know they got the ball inside to Horford.
00:27:18 I think Brown did on that bucket that kind of killed
00:27:21 the cold streak there midway through the first.
00:27:23 Tatum didn't score until about nine minutes into the game.
00:27:26 So I'm sure those were all big factors here.
00:27:28 And shots going down certainly always
00:27:30 helps this group, John, in terms of their intensity
00:27:32 on both ends and their commitment.
00:27:34 So that swung in a big way.
00:27:35 They started this one 3 of 15 and then went like 60%
00:27:40 the rest of the way.
00:27:41 So it was interesting to me.
00:27:43 I don't know.
00:27:44 What did you take from it, Jimmy?
00:27:45 I'm curious if Jimmy's ever going to look up
00:27:47 at this comment on the screen.
00:27:50 Oh my-- 200 bucks?
00:27:52 Hey, it was worth it, I guess.
00:27:54 It's worth it.
00:27:55 It was worth it.
00:27:55 That's the one clip we can't find, seriously.
00:27:59 It was scrubbed from the internet.
00:28:01 Didn't actually happen.
00:28:03 But for the sake of the donation,
00:28:04 I will definitely let that one go.
00:28:07 I'll let that one fly.
00:28:09 No, I was just looking down because--
00:28:12 sorry, Bobby.
00:28:13 I'm not going to be able to comment on what you just said,
00:28:14 because I wasn't paying attention at all.
00:28:16 But I was looking down at my phone because I had tweeted.
00:28:18 I needed somebody to create the Jaylen Brown crossing Luka
00:28:23 into the shooting stars meme.
00:28:25 And somebody did it.
00:28:27 So I had to retweet that.
00:28:28 And I got a good laugh at that.
00:28:30 Yeah, we're talking about Joe pregame.
00:28:34 Joe pregame commenting on narratives.
00:28:37 Jimmy hasn't listened to anything.
00:28:38 There it is.
00:28:39 I wasn't.
00:28:39 You got to listen to it.
00:28:41 I was listening.
00:28:41 Relax over there, Mr. Commenter guy over here now.
00:28:48 What do I think of it?
00:28:49 I don't know.
00:28:50 We talked about it, I think, via text briefly.
00:28:52 It felt like he was seeing the signs of maybe his guy
00:28:56 slipping a bit.
00:28:56 And I don't know if this was his inadvertent way of calling
00:28:59 them out in a way.
00:29:00 But I didn't see it tonight.
00:29:02 I mean, dog died.
00:29:03 He said something about dog days of January, back to backs.
00:29:06 It's easy to-- I think what he was saying was don't listen
00:29:10 to the excuses.
00:29:12 Don't let those--
00:29:12 And everybody gave them that out, right,
00:29:14 John, from a media perspective?
00:29:15 I mean--
00:29:16 John was.
00:29:17 John was the one.
00:29:18 John was rolling out the red carpet for a half-assed play
00:29:20 the last couple of games.
00:29:23 He was rolling with nothing to be concerned about.
00:29:25 If you ask the chat, I've just been
00:29:27 burying good performances, OK?
00:29:29 People hear what they want to hear.
00:29:31 I'll just tell you that.
00:29:32 Oh, and John, our guy Gary that day in Milwaukee--
00:29:35 and Gary doesn't let anybody off the hook.
00:29:37 He wrote that it was a schedule loss,
00:29:40 and they got to do something about the schedule
00:29:42 to not have games in that spot.
00:29:43 So everybody across the board was
00:29:45 giving them an excuse for the schedule
00:29:47 in the last couple of slip-ups there.
00:29:48 I don't excuse the schedule.
00:29:51 I-- oh, God.
00:29:53 Is this a new saying?
00:29:54 This is on the chart.
00:29:56 This is on the tourney.
00:29:59 I got to find that video.
00:30:00 It was so funny.
00:30:02 Because if I remember right, we all just kind of ignored it,
00:30:05 and everyone just slowly started laughing.
00:30:09 No, this is exactly what happened.
00:30:10 This is what happened.
00:30:12 I moved in my chair, the same chair
00:30:13 that I'm sitting in right now.
00:30:15 But I had like a--
00:30:16 I don't know what I was wearing for pants.
00:30:18 It made a fart sound.
00:30:20 And I didn't know that--
00:30:22 I hope it was a diaper.
00:30:24 I wasn't thinking, oh, like, obviously, because I didn't--
00:30:27 I was talking at the time, I think.
00:30:28 And all of a sudden, the chat started
00:30:30 to fill up with people being, did
00:30:31 you guys hear that, somebody just farted,
00:30:33 somebody just farted.
00:30:34 And then I go look at the chat, and you guys start laughing,
00:30:37 and everyone's saying that I farted.
00:30:38 That's what happened.
00:30:40 That's the back story of--
00:30:42 We'll get Ahmet on that one.
00:30:43 We're going to find that episode.
00:30:45 Yeah, I mean, everyone in the history of leather chair farts
00:30:48 has blamed the leather chair.
00:30:50 So I mean, it's--
00:30:52 I mean, listen.
00:30:53 That's oof weird.
00:30:54 If I wanted to let one rip, I would just do it.
00:30:59 I would-- a couple of guys here just talking about sports.
00:31:05 Happens all the time, I'm sure.
00:31:06 He would admit it, John, if he did it.
00:31:08 I would admit it.
00:31:09 But I'll take it for the $200.
00:31:12 Yeah, we'll take it.
00:31:13 We'll find it.
00:31:14 Donate $200, of course.
00:31:16 We will.
00:31:16 For the $200, we'll go find it if we have to.

00:31:29 Like I said, Kansas City Chiefs and the Moneyline
00:31:32 was the bet of the weekend.
00:31:34 And the Chiefs came through, crying Buffalo fans.
00:31:37 I lost my bet.
00:31:38 Oh, boy.

00:32:07 Once again, the Celtics defeat the Mavericks.
00:32:11 And I'm not going to go win of the year, but maybe it was.
00:32:14 This was a great win.
00:32:16 It was a part of the feel good of a win, as you have it.
00:32:18 This was a great win.
00:32:19 It's not win of the year.
00:32:21 It was a great--
00:32:21 it was a really solid win, given all of the circumstances
00:32:26 and where you thought this might be going.
00:32:27 And Porzingis not playing.
00:32:28 A really, really solid win.
00:32:31 Yeah.
00:32:31 And you played with some real toughness and physicality
00:32:33 in this game.
00:32:34 We always talk about this team asserting its will.
00:32:37 And whether it was the blocks on the defensive end,
00:32:39 and the efforts switching, and guarding one-on-one
00:32:42 on that side of the ball, or going downhill.
00:32:45 And I thought they got Brown and Tatum in some really good spots
00:32:49 to just get by guys, or back them down,
00:32:55 or just tear through them for easy baskets here.
00:32:58 It was an impressive performance,
00:32:59 just from a physicality and a will standpoint, John.
00:33:01 Because this team does have size.
00:33:04 They do have the muscle at that three and four
00:33:07 spot between Brown and Tatum to be able to overpower guys.
00:33:11 And that's how we want to see them play.
00:33:12 You look at the shot charts tonight, and luckily for you,
00:33:15 I can't put them up in this new platform here.
00:33:17 You can.
00:33:18 It was all in the paint.
00:33:19 Brown, Tatum, you can just imagine.
00:33:21 That's the difference.
00:33:22 Makes all over the paint.
00:33:23 So again, this is going to be--
00:33:26 people will take this and decide that it's negative, and it's not.
00:33:32 But the difference between the good and the Brown bad games
00:33:35 oftentimes comes down to playing with aggressiveness,
00:33:38 and taking it directly to the paint, and making stuff happen,
00:33:41 versus what you see, and again, what you've seen from Tatum.
00:33:45 What's amazing is Tatum was playing great,
00:33:47 and he just had that little spell for two or three games,
00:33:50 where he just kind of fell back in love with the pull-ups,
00:33:52 and kind of took the lazy way out.
00:33:55 It takes more work to break guys down, and to drive it
00:34:00 into the paint, and make the smart play,
00:34:02 take the shot when you have it.
00:34:04 But when they're doing that, they're just better.
00:34:06 The ball moves better.
00:34:07 They're attacking.
00:34:08 They're getting to the free throw line.
00:34:10 They're finding open shooters.
00:34:12 They're knocking down threes.
00:34:13 It's just so much better than whipping around the perimeter,
00:34:16 maybe, or just rerun one action, and one guy just
00:34:19 jacks the first open three that they get.
00:34:21 That's always the difference.
00:34:22 They just played more aggressive tonight.
00:34:25 And so you see the difference.
00:34:27 So when we make an issue when they're not, it's like, well,
00:34:31 you see a night like this, and it's like, this is kind of
00:34:34 the better version.
00:34:35 I mean, again, I didn't see them forcing as many shots
00:34:41 as I saw in previous games, taking
00:34:43 contested step backs, and just ill-advised quick threes.
00:34:47 I mean, Holliday took 12 threes, but he put five of 12.
00:34:51 So I'll take that.
00:34:52 But as far as Tatum and Brown are concerned,
00:34:54 it was just-- and again, they didn't shoot great from three
00:34:57 tonight, either.
00:34:57 It's not like all of a sudden they found their outside shot.
00:35:00 But I didn't feel like they were only looking for that shot.
00:35:03 They weren't trying to shoot themselves back into the game.
00:35:06 They did it by being aggressive.
00:35:07 They did it on the defensive end, Bobby, too.
00:35:09 And I think that was the difference,
00:35:11 getting out in the early stops, getting out in transition,
00:35:14 being physical.
00:35:15 I think you already mentioned that, being physical.
00:35:17 I thought that they made a point to attack Dallas
00:35:20 and get them frustrated.
00:35:23 You can get Kyrie and Luka frustrated very quickly.
00:35:28 Knock them down.
00:35:30 Let them start to look over to the refs.
00:35:33 Both of them were.
00:35:34 Yeah, absolutely.
00:35:35 And I think that that was the perfect way
00:35:37 to attack them tonight.
00:35:38 And maybe they did a little bit of exploiting them.
00:35:41 In doing so.
00:35:42 And it's an easy team to exploit.
00:35:44 And this is what Joe talks about, too, John,
00:35:46 as much as we get on his approach.
00:35:48 It depends on the matchup.
00:35:49 And this is a matchup where you were
00:35:51 able to go against guards around the perimeter.
00:35:53 Grant, certainly a smaller four.
00:35:55 So you have size advantage across the perimeter.
00:35:57 You're attacking Kyrie.
00:35:58 You're attacking Luka.
00:35:59 So on the perimeter there, that first line of defense--
00:36:02 You land them off the hook by pulling up from three.
00:36:06 You never do that.
00:36:07 Sometimes they don't recognize those matchups.
00:36:10 Or they're settling for the pull-ups over the top
00:36:13 because they can get separation.
00:36:15 But it's not.
00:36:15 I mean, this was--
00:36:18 there was a couple, I mean, from both guys,
00:36:20 bully ball moments.
00:36:22 Just straight physicality.
00:36:24 Kyrie had them.
00:36:25 I mean, Kyrie had them.
00:36:26 Jalen had them.
00:36:27 Tatum had them.
00:36:27 There was one time Kyrie tried to match up with them.
00:36:30 And Tatum literally just powered him down from--
00:36:34 all the way down to the block.
00:36:36 There was nothing humanly possible Irving can do.
00:36:40 When you use those advantages, and you
00:36:44 use that to your advantage, as you said,
00:36:48 it's letting them off the hook doing anything different.
00:36:50 It's a bucket or a foul if I do this.
00:36:53 Just do it.
00:36:54 And they did it over and over and over again.
00:36:56 They attacked those guys.
00:36:57 It was relentless.
00:36:59 And we've hit on their approach offensively all year,
00:37:02 really for two years here.
00:37:04 And it's not just us.
00:37:05 I mean, even analytical writers like Zach Lowe
00:37:09 are looking at them and saying, why are they passing up
00:37:11 so many shots at the basket?
00:37:13 Not just from a standpoint of, you're right there.
00:37:16 Just go up.
00:37:17 But also the free throw issue, which
00:37:18 I think is probably their biggest issue as a team
00:37:21 right now, is their inability to get to the free throw
00:37:24 line consistently.
00:37:25 And that is directly tied to their desire as a team
00:37:31 and Joe's philosophy of getting to the basket and kick out.
00:37:35 And Joe's crazy fear over what happens going the other way.
00:37:41 And he's not wrong.
00:37:43 But again, I think not all missed layups
00:37:46 are created equal.
00:37:47 You're under the basket, and you go up, and you miss it.
00:37:50 That's fine.
00:37:50 It's the flying out of control stuff,
00:37:53 where when you lose the guy--
00:37:54 Falling out of bounds.
00:37:55 Falling out of bounds.
00:37:56 And then Tatum takes 40 minutes to get up.
00:38:00 It's like, those are automatic buckets going the other way.
00:38:03 We've seen that a million times.
00:38:04 So he's not wrong in that regard.
00:38:07 But it's just playing in control and playing within yourself.
00:38:10 If you're doing that, it's fine.
00:38:12 It's fine.
00:38:13 Dirty free throw attempts tonight,
00:38:14 by the way, which probably has to be a season high for them.
00:38:18 We're right up there.
00:38:19 Yeah.
00:38:21 Very nice.
00:38:23 Yeah, look at this boomer right here.
00:38:25 That's probably in the bracket this year, would you say?
00:38:28 Look at this boomer on repeat.
00:38:31 And that's what it is.
00:38:32 It's a body control issue.
00:38:33 It's weird.
00:38:34 And it's not all body control.
00:38:36 It's body control.
00:38:37 It's really foul hunting.
00:38:39 It's that extra embellishment to get the foul, whether or not
00:38:43 the shot got off clean.
00:38:46 That's what kills you.
00:38:47 Oh, look at this.
00:38:48 I think someone found the fart video.
00:38:51 Oh, wow.
00:38:51 I love it.
00:38:52 We'll have to go look for it right after this.
00:38:53 Preseason show versus Orlando 2021.
00:38:55 Amit.
00:38:55 That sounds right.
00:38:56 Preseason.
00:38:57 It doesn't even count.
00:38:58 It's a preseason show.
00:39:01 You can fart on a preseason show, allegedly.
00:39:06 You're just ramping up.
00:39:09 Atta boy.
00:39:09 We found it.
00:39:11 Pre, it's been found.
00:39:13 We have found it.
00:39:14 Let me ask you guys this.
00:39:16 How are we supposed to feel about-- well,
00:39:20 I'll tell you in a minute.
00:39:21 He paid us, too, to tell us that.
00:39:22 Thank you.
00:39:24 Yeah.
00:39:25 Did he?
00:39:25 He did.
00:39:26 Well, it's going to charity.
00:39:27 It's for a good cause tonight.
00:39:28 Guys, tonight's the night where you want
00:39:30 to get those super chats in.
00:39:31 You do.
00:39:32 You do.
00:39:33 Get the super chats in.
00:39:34 Again, if you missed it, we'll say it one more time.
00:39:38 Because again, we do appreciate everybody
00:39:40 who flooded the donations.
00:39:42 You can literally say something mean about John,
00:39:44 and it's all for charity tonight, guys.
00:39:46 You say it about me, I will put it up in the show.
00:39:50 Any super chat donations you send to us
00:39:52 will go to the Kaid family.
00:39:53 As I mentioned, the Kaid family had
00:39:56 suffered a terrible tragedy.
00:39:58 Their daughter and our friend Doug Kaid, colleague,
00:40:02 works the Patriots beat.
00:40:04 Their daughter Hallie passed away after a nine-month battle
00:40:08 with cancer.
00:40:09 And they have a GoFundMe page.
00:40:12 You can deposit there directly, and I urge you to do that.
00:40:15 But if not, any super chats you send to us,
00:40:19 all the proceeds that would normally go to CLS Media,
00:40:23 we will send directly to the Kaid family on your behalf.
00:40:26 So again, we've gotten several generous donations,
00:40:29 and I'm sure--
00:40:30 Yeah, we're up over 500 so far.
00:40:32 Yeah, I'm sure the Kaid family is appreciative of that,
00:40:34 or will be.
00:40:35 And again, every little bit helps.
00:40:37 So anything that you want to send here,
00:40:39 we will send it along on behalf of the entire Garden Report
00:40:44 family.
00:40:44 Or as we said, go directly to the GoFundMe link
00:40:47 and make a contribution yourself.
00:40:49 We do appreciate that.
00:40:50 But that's what we were talking about.
00:40:52 And as Jimmy said, of course, you
00:40:54 can say whatever you want at this point.
00:40:56 Attach a super chat to it.
00:40:57 We'll put it on the screen, and we're happy to have it.
00:41:00 I wanted to ask here--
00:41:02 Real quick, some quotes coming out of Dallas.
00:41:06 Jason Tatum said he can't repeat what
00:41:09 he said to Grant Williams after the block at the halftime
00:41:11 buzzer.
00:41:13 Nice.
00:41:15 Asked about playing some center.
00:41:16 I didn't think we were that small.
00:41:18 I'm 6' 9", 225.
00:41:19 You feel me?
00:41:20 He's 6' 9" confirmed, OK.
00:41:25 We can stop saying he's 6' 9".
00:41:26 Now he's saying 6' 9", but he's--
00:41:28 He said that earlier in the year.
00:41:29 I love it.
00:41:31 10 pounds.
00:41:32 Remember, he put on 10 pounds.
00:41:33 10 pounds of height?
00:41:35 Yeah, you got to be strong.
00:41:39 Again, it's confirmed.
00:41:44 Brad confirmed.
00:41:45 He just made it up to talk about how big he was.
00:41:48 He was just embellishing on purpose.
00:41:50 He literally confirmed it.
00:41:51 And he says he and Tatum laughed about it.
00:41:55 Shut up, Johnny.
00:41:55 6' 10", slander.
00:41:58 Whatever.
00:41:58 Well, if you're 6' 10", 230, go to the rim.
00:42:02 Yeah, absolutely.
00:42:04 And you know what?
00:42:04 The thing is with him, I've said it on the show
00:42:07 a number of times this year.
00:42:08 He has a little extra burst this year, too,
00:42:10 for getting that weight in the weights.
00:42:11 So much better going to the rim this year.
00:42:13 He's got more moves to the rim.
00:42:14 So strong.
00:42:15 Oh my god, he's so much--
00:42:17 That move he put on Gordon on Friday, the one bucket.
00:42:20 He's so freaking tough right now.
00:42:21 Yeah, he's much tougher.
00:42:23 And he can get there just like a quick spin, a fake,
00:42:25 and he's just there at the rim.
00:42:27 He's quicker in his motion, despite the added muscle.
00:42:29 Yes, but he's not getting bodied.
00:42:31 He's not getting bumped off his spot.
00:42:33 It's like a burst.
00:42:34 Yeah.
00:42:35 Bursting.
00:42:35 No, he has a first step.
00:42:36 Squats, man.
00:42:37 It's real good.
00:42:38 Bobby, your first step is better.
00:42:40 You know what it's about with the squats, man.
00:42:42 Yeah, the bar there.
00:42:43 Yeah.
00:42:44 Yes, you know all about it.
00:42:46 Let me ask you this question.
00:42:47 How are we supposed to feel about Grant Williams?
00:42:49 Laugh, chuckle, howl.
00:42:53 I wouldn't laugh.
00:42:54 Laugh.
00:42:55 You wouldn't, but I would.
00:42:58 Well, yeah.
00:42:59 Despite the struggles, despite this game,
00:43:03 I still feel like you could use him.
00:43:06 You're looking for that player now, Jimmy.
00:43:08 Brad Stevenson--
00:43:10 That's a good question.
00:43:11 Nobody in history ever said you can't use Grant.
00:43:16 They just didn't want to pay him $20 million.
00:43:19 That's all it ever was.
00:43:21 Bobby, he's not worth $20 million, my friend, or $15,
00:43:24 whatever he's getting.
00:43:25 Whatever he's getting, like $13, yeah.
00:43:27 He's-- you're not-- I mean, OK, if the argument is,
00:43:34 could you use him?
00:43:35 Sure.
00:43:36 Any team could use him.
00:43:38 But is anyone saying, damn it, I wish
00:43:40 we had Grant Williams right now?
00:43:42 God, I loved what I saw last night.
00:43:43 I wish we had Grant Williams on this team.
00:43:45 Who is saying that in the NBA right now, Bobby?
00:43:47 Who?
00:43:48 Even the Mavericks aren't saying that right now.
00:43:50 Yeah, and they certainly expected more out of him
00:43:53 as a starter this year.
00:43:54 Now he's coming off the bench.
00:43:56 Just in terms of having a rotation guy who
00:43:59 can yard multiple positions, who can hit threes--
00:44:01 and he's still probably at about 37% from the season,
00:44:04 despite the big extended slump he's in here.
00:44:08 That's better than what you have at that spot.
00:44:10 And it's better than what many teams have at that spot.
00:44:12 And again, it's not an exorbitant amount of money.
00:44:15 They didn't pay him $20 a year.
00:44:17 So who don't they have if they keep--
00:44:19 what doesn't happen if they kept Grant, Bobby?
00:44:22 What doesn't happen?
00:44:23 No Drew Holliday.
00:44:24 OK, then.
00:44:25 I think you could still do Holliday.
00:44:26 Yeah, it could be Silver.
00:44:28 You're just paying extra tax.
00:44:30 And that's all it really came down to.
00:44:32 And maybe you're able to do something different instead
00:44:34 of that.
00:44:35 But right now, Jimmy, you're just
00:44:37 scrapping together that position with minimum guys.
00:44:39 And you're going to hope that you can find a replacement
00:44:42 level guy there.
00:44:44 Grant ended his career signing and going to Dallas.
00:44:47 He should have taken what the Celtics offered
00:44:49 the year before.
00:44:50 Because here, you're riding the coattails of superstars,
00:44:55 possibly on their way to a championship
00:44:57 and multiple appearances and constant national televised
00:45:01 games and prominent.
00:45:02 Yeah, and you're going to people's weddings
00:45:04 as Tatum's plus one.
00:45:07 Yeah, you're the limo driver to all these cool places.
00:45:09 [LAUGHTER]
00:45:12 No, now you're just Kyrie's punching bag.
00:45:16 And the other thing is--
00:45:17 and this might be part of the little bump
00:45:20 they've went through this year that they've achieved.
00:45:24 He always wanted to do more.
00:45:27 And that was obvious the beginning of last year,
00:45:30 all those attacking closeouts and dribbling in the basket
00:45:33 and just doing a little bit too much with the ball in his hands.
00:45:36 That's kind of what he's done down there in Dallas.
00:45:39 And it's been similarly ineffective in his role there.
00:45:43 So E-May said it a couple of years ago.
00:45:49 His best game was always just a narrow impact.
00:45:52 You got and one basketball, and you got plus one basketball.
00:45:56 That's Grant Williams' league when he leaves.
00:45:59 Grant Williams is going to start a new company,
00:46:01 like a new brand.
00:46:02 Starting in plus one.
00:46:03 Plus one.
00:46:05 Bobby, you're right.
00:46:07 We're not talking about his plus minus either.
00:46:08 What's funny is the team might be a Grant Williams away
00:46:11 from having no needs, right?
00:46:13 Yeah.
00:46:13 But again, it's all a value thing.
00:46:18 It's like you can't pay for everything.
00:46:20 And at the end of the day, it wasn't that much money.
00:46:22 Because look at Friday.
00:46:23 You could use him on Friday against Jokic.
00:46:25 You could use him all the time.
00:46:26 You can use decent players, rotation players.
00:46:29 But reality is, he is what he is, which is like,
00:46:33 on a really good team, a 7'8" guy.
00:46:35 And on a team like Dallas, which is kind of mid-playoff team,
00:46:43 he's kind of still a 6'9".
00:46:45 He's outside looking in.
00:46:46 He got bumped from the starting lineup.
00:46:48 So I mean, that's who he is.
00:46:50 That's who he's always been.
00:46:51 I think the argument was over, like, what's his ceiling?
00:46:53 I know you talked about him as like a Horford replacement.
00:46:56 And I just think you just build a different type--
00:46:59 He's a great shooter.
00:47:00 He really is.
00:47:01 You just build a different type of team.
00:47:02 We don't have to do this anymore, Bobby.
00:47:05 Yeah, you--
00:47:06 [LAUGHTER]
00:47:08 And by the way, I can't stand the fans.
00:47:12 You don't-- Bobby, yeah, the contract's expired.
00:47:16 You don't have to do this.
00:47:17 And by the way, I can't stand the fans, who,
00:47:20 the second the guy leaves out the door--
00:47:23 and this happened with Smart to some degree, too.
00:47:25 Oh, he wasn't that good anyway.
00:47:26 No, Bobby, we all said it while he was here.
00:47:29 You were just the only one who did it.
00:47:31 On this show, you could find many, many long clips
00:47:35 of us saying, he's not worth the money.
00:47:37 He's not good enough.
00:47:39 Don't pay him.
00:47:41 He stinks.
00:47:42 And a lot of other hurtful things
00:47:43 that we don't like to say, but needed to be said probably.
00:47:46 Just remember, though, two years ago,
00:47:48 game seven against Milwaukee, you
00:47:50 would have been done in the second round
00:47:51 if it wasn't for him.
00:47:52 And there were other spots, too, where he really came through.
00:47:54 Again, Bobby--
00:47:55 I mean--
00:47:55 It's not to say that he never hit a shot in his life
00:47:58 or that he wasn't successful in bursts
00:48:01 and that he wouldn't have some role in the team.
00:48:03 He did.
00:48:03 But he also went through really, really bad stretches
00:48:07 and long droughts.
00:48:08 He was benched.
00:48:09 He was DNP-ed, CD-ed for a bit last year.
00:48:12 And at the end of the day, the team
00:48:14 made a decision that they weren't going to pay him 13,
00:48:16 15, 17, whatever it was, million.
00:48:18 And I would say, as of right now,
00:48:21 it looks like it was the right call.
00:48:22 I guarantee--
00:48:23 It does.
00:48:25 Yeah, and that was the thing.
00:48:26 It's like, were you going to go to those levels for Grant?
00:48:28 The conversation we were having around him was--
00:48:31 and he had that stretch, and he's shooting it.
00:48:33 It's like, oh, Grant's going to get the bag.
00:48:35 Every time he'd have a good game, people in the chat
00:48:38 would be like, 20 million?
00:48:40 And that became a joke.
00:48:41 [LAUGHTER]
00:48:42 You know?
00:48:43 Like, guys--
00:48:45 That became the joke.
00:48:46 It's not anti-Grant stuff.
00:48:47 It's just kind of like, what did you want to pay the guy?
00:48:50 He did want 20 million.
00:48:51 That's right, yeah.
00:48:53 So that's what it became about.
00:48:55 My question is, there's at least a piece--
00:48:56 He's a role player.
00:48:58 That's what I thought.
00:48:59 Look, I always thought--
00:49:01 Is he replacement level?
00:49:02 At best.
00:49:03 He's better than that.
00:49:04 He's better than that.
00:49:06 But my--
00:49:06 So I think we agree there.
00:49:07 There was at least a piece of me that wondered--
00:49:10 there was a piece of me that wondered,
00:49:11 can he prosper elsewhere to the point
00:49:14 that you're going to be like, ah, kind of let like--
00:49:17 you know, not as like--
00:49:20 no one is ever going to be close to star
00:49:22 level or anything like that.
00:49:23 What if you let your PJ Tucker go?
00:49:25 You know, or that guy who could be that guy that everybody
00:49:28 wants and everybody needs but not everybody can get.
00:49:31 And you let him go, and he's just that guy
00:49:34 for another 10 years.
00:49:35 You're like, ah, you always feel like I could use a grant.
00:49:38 Or is he like really mid or less than mid?
00:49:41 And I've always been conflicted on that, you know?
00:49:44 I really have been.
00:49:45 Because part of the time, I think like,
00:49:47 this guy's just a bum.
00:49:48 And others, I think like, this guy
00:49:50 could be a really important contributor.
00:49:52 And I'm still torn on it.
00:49:54 And we had that experience in Boston, 2020.
00:49:56 There was part of me that I was wondering,
00:49:58 when he goes, what happens?
00:50:00 2020 is rookie year.
00:50:01 He was such a good defensive role player off the bench
00:50:04 that year.
00:50:04 He was playing some center for them
00:50:06 as a rookie into the East finals.
00:50:07 2021, an absolute no-show.
00:50:10 He was DMP all that year, not a part of that playoff rotation
00:50:13 at all against the Nets where they lost.
00:50:15 And they needed a big to step up that year.
00:50:17 And then 2022 was his best year.
00:50:19 And then 2023, another weird year filled with DMPs.
00:50:22 And it just worsened the issue.
00:50:26 Yeah.
00:50:26 And then what did he do in the playoffs, Bobby?
00:50:29 You want to talk about the playoffs?
00:50:30 What did he do last playoffs, Bobby?
00:50:32 I think we all agreed when he went at Jimmy
00:50:35 and everybody threw him under the bus, that wasn't great.
00:50:39 I actually will say this.
00:50:42 I gave Grant credit at the time for doing it.
00:50:44 And I still do.
00:50:45 I thought the team was a bunch of--
00:50:48 It was ridiculous how they responded to that.
00:50:50 I thought they were little babies.
00:50:52 Let's leave it at that.
00:50:53 And Grant was the only one that really had a spine
00:50:55 and had a backbone and didn't say, oh, don't poke Jimmy
00:50:58 Butler.
00:50:59 Don't wake up the boogeyman.
00:51:00 That wasn't the attitude you needed to have.
00:51:02 You know why?
00:51:02 He just wasn't-- right message, wrong messenger.
00:51:05 We talked about it.
00:51:06 You're 100% right.
00:51:07 And you were right then.
00:51:08 That's exactly right.
00:51:10 Because everyone's like--
00:51:11 Right message, wrong messenger.
00:51:13 And now he's in Dallas, and there's no messenger.
00:51:16 And he's just going to fade into oblivion.
00:51:18 Grant was the human eye roll.
00:51:21 That's just what he was.
00:51:22 It's just like--
00:51:23 His own teammates basically--
00:51:25 They were like, oh, man.
00:51:28 Yeah, it kind of became a running joke, unfortunately,
00:51:32 for him.
00:51:33 You tolerate him.
00:51:34 Like we said, he was your buddy.
00:51:35 Great guy.
00:51:36 Nice guy.
00:51:36 Your buddy who everybody thought,
00:51:38 like, what's up with this guy?
00:51:39 And you're like, he's cool.
00:51:40 He's cool.
00:51:40 But you've got to defend him.
00:51:42 Fringe guy.
00:51:43 That's who Grant was.
00:51:44 But when he's doing that stuff, you're just like, oh, man.
00:51:46 Chill, chill.
00:51:47 Mind if I bring my friend?
00:51:48 He's cool.
00:51:49 And then Grant shows up.
00:51:51 By the way, East Finals, he shot 48--
00:51:53 It is not cool.
00:51:54 That's his guy, Steele, over here.
00:51:55 By the way, East Finals--
00:51:59 He's totally chill.
00:52:00 Like, he'll just like--
00:52:01 He's fine.
00:52:02 Just get a couple beers into him.
00:52:04 He's fine.
00:52:04 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:52:07 By the way, after not playing the entire playoffs before,
00:52:10 he shot 48 from the field and 43 from three in the East Finals.
00:52:15 Big game three.
00:52:18 Bobby's still pulling out--
00:52:19 Bobby's just a game log going right now.
00:52:21 Because again, I just--
00:52:22 There he is.
00:52:22 Small table size.
00:52:23 This is back.
00:52:24 So he's-- because he didn't play ever before.
00:52:27 And I think we all agreed last year that it was ridiculous.
00:52:29 He wasn't part of the rotation at all.
00:52:31 So listen, it's worked out.
00:52:33 The contract's not looking good so far.
00:52:35 And the Celtics have better players in his spot.
00:52:38 That's what you pick from players like that.
00:52:39 The 12-13 is fine.
00:52:41 It's fine.
00:52:43 So you got poor Zingas effectively in his spot
00:52:46 now alongside Horford.
00:52:47 And then you put Cornett in that depth role.
00:52:50 So it worked out.
00:52:53 But I still think in terms of that eighth-ninth spot--
00:52:56 [LAUGHTER]
00:52:59 [LAUGHTER]
00:53:02 Everyone's like--
00:53:07 And that actually happened at the wedding.
00:53:09 You're going to pass that?
00:53:10 Perfect.
00:53:11 [LAUGHTER]
00:53:13 Everyone's like, OK, dude.
00:53:18 So let me ask you this.
00:53:20 The good comments are coming in while you're talking.
00:53:23 I feel bad.
00:53:24 Let me ask you this.
00:53:25 Yes.
00:53:25 Typical.
00:53:27 Is O'Shea and Cornett good enough for that position?
00:53:32 No, it's not O'Shea and Cornett.
00:53:33 It's Hauser and O'Shea.
00:53:36 I mean, shit.
00:53:36 Well, Hauser's still Hauser.
00:53:39 No, but Hauser didn't exist when Grant was here.
00:53:41 That's the point.
00:53:42 The minutes--
00:53:43 Well, Grant was DMP, too.
00:53:44 I know, but the minutes--
00:53:46 And you're right.
00:53:46 It was kind of a flip-flop.
00:53:48 But it defaulted fully to Hauser this year is what I'm saying.
00:53:52 Is anything you're missing in Grant,
00:53:53 Hauser ate up a lot of those minutes, I think.
00:53:56 Right.
00:53:56 And he's defending well in isolation.
00:53:58 He's doing a good job there.
00:53:59 And I guess that is a good comparison,
00:54:01 because he's going to be that seventh guy off
00:54:04 the bench for this team.
00:54:05 They may go eight in some spots.
00:54:07 But in a playoff rotation, if they're
00:54:09 going down to seven guys, you have
00:54:11 to think it's going to be Hauser there.
00:54:13 And Pritchard, I thought, who we didn't mention tonight,
00:54:15 was fantastic in this game.
00:54:17 And that bench continues to give you quite a bit.
00:54:20 And I think everybody's just sitting here.
00:54:22 I watched the pregame show tonight on NBC,
00:54:23 and they were sitting there, too, saying,
00:54:25 you can stand pat with this roster.
00:54:27 It's pretty good.
00:54:28 They've done an amazing job so far.
00:54:30 The bench has been really good.
00:54:33 And you're just sitting there, and you're like,
00:54:36 is that going to translate to the playoffs?
00:54:38 And I know a lot of that is going
00:54:39 to be solved by just sitting these guys down
00:54:41 or playing them 10 minutes and not having them be big factors.
00:54:45 You're going to just lean on your top six
00:54:47 for most of the playoffs.
00:54:49 But one guy misses a night, all of a sudden,
00:54:51 Hauser's like 25 minutes in a playoff game.
00:54:55 Pritchard and Hauser worry me in the playoffs of total shutdowns,
00:54:58 for sure.
00:54:59 But the thing is, there's no sense in worrying,
00:55:02 because you can't get better than them with the assets
00:55:06 that you have at the trade deadline, realistically.
00:55:08 Is it impossible?
00:55:10 Look, if you can, you do.
00:55:12 You're selling out.
00:55:13 If all it's going to take is picks and whatever crap salary
00:55:16 matching to get you somebody who can insert themselves
00:55:19 into your seven spot in your rotation, no question about it.
00:55:23 If it's a definitive, oh my goodness,
00:55:26 this person's an automatic 20-plus minute a night
00:55:29 rotation player, you absolutely do that this year.
00:55:33 There's not even a question.
00:55:35 But I don't know that you can find that.
00:55:37 But if you do, you give the picks.
00:55:40 A couple second rounders, another first if you have to,
00:55:43 depending on the caliber of the player, and whatever salary,
00:55:46 and you get it.
00:55:47 No question.
00:55:49 No question.
00:55:50 I agree with that.
00:55:50 But I don't know that you can.
00:55:52 I only kind of--
00:55:53 when it comes to Grant, if we're still talking about Grant,
00:55:56 I agree with the last Super Chat that he would be kind of like
00:55:59 an asset to have against some of those teams that
00:56:02 are big down the middle.
00:56:04 The Bucks, the Nuggets, Philly.
00:56:06 And they've done a good job with that,
00:56:08 with Holiday and some others.
00:56:09 But--
00:56:09 They have.
00:56:10 I think it says a lot about this roster
00:56:13 that you go into that game against Jokic,
00:56:15 and you're like, is Holiday going to guard him?
00:56:17 And then all of a sudden, it's Chris Stapps,
00:56:20 and they're just trying to let him get his.
00:56:21 But then he's tearing them up at that spot.
00:56:24 And now you see what Embiid's doing tonight,
00:56:25 and it's like, oh, one less guy against him.
00:56:28 So I just-- he was a specialist, John.
00:56:30 He was becoming a very expensive specialist
00:56:33 for what he was giving you, especially on this roster.
00:56:36 I wouldn't--
00:56:36 And I get why.
00:56:37 Teams do it all the time.
00:56:38 He wouldn't have been that good at it, Bobby, by the end.
00:56:42 Yeah, I mean, his defense regressed a little bit.
00:56:44 I think that was a little overstated last year.
00:56:46 I mean, the whole team was so screwed up defensively,
00:56:49 in my mind, just in terms of connectivity.
00:56:51 But his numbers definitely took a hit in the isolation.
00:56:55 But it's just a good piece to have.
00:56:57 And I love Brissett.
00:56:58 I really do.
00:56:59 I hope they put him in some more challenging defensive positions
00:57:03 to just see what he's made of in those spots.
00:57:05 And I think they have in recent weeks.
00:57:08 And they're getting good stuff from him.
00:57:12 He's had a really good season so far.
00:57:14 He's not the shooter Grant is.
00:57:16 But the cutting and the defense at the four and everything else
00:57:19 has just all been rock solid so far.
00:57:21 The offensive rebounding, too, just incredible from him.
00:57:24 So that keeps going.
00:57:25 I don't think you're thinking about it, along with Porzingis's
00:57:28 impact and Horford off the bench effectively being Grant.
00:57:32 But as we've said all along, one injury strikes in the playoffs,
00:57:36 and you're all of a sudden looking at your depth going,
00:57:39 ugh.
00:57:39 And they've done a good job in the regular season
00:57:41 kind of preparing for those situations.
00:57:43 But as we know, it's a little different in the playoffs.
00:57:47 Yeah, I mean, again, no team can survive an injury to a star
00:57:52 player and win.
00:57:53 But I mean, the Celtics are uniquely positioned
00:57:56 due to how much talent they have to lose a guy.
00:58:00 But again, then it gets thin.
00:58:02 The replacement level of the minutes
00:58:04 that you're going to give up if you lost somebody--
00:58:07 I think they're--
00:58:08 --are pretty significant.
00:58:09 Like, Hauser in the starting rotation,
00:58:11 because he's forced in there for whatever reason, is bad.
00:58:15 That's bad.
00:58:15 You're not going to win a series against a really good team
00:58:18 with something like that going on.
00:58:19 And that would be a disastrous scenario.
00:58:21 You're sticking in Horford if one guy goes down,
00:58:23 unfortunately.
00:58:24 So they're in a good spot right now.
00:58:27 Again, there's just really nothing
00:58:28 to worry about with this team.
00:58:30 But you don't want to end up in the playoffs
00:58:32 in that kind of situation and go, oh, jeez,
00:58:34 we didn't give up that extra second rounder for John
00:58:36 Conchar, whoever it might be.
00:58:38 And they do-- the one thing I do really agree with Brad
00:58:41 on--
00:58:42 and we've kicked around Kelly, right,
00:58:44 as kind of the most exciting deadline name.
00:58:47 I don't think you can go get a guy who really
00:58:50 wants the ball in his hand and is the big scorer.
00:58:53 Because the one thing this bench has done well
00:58:55 is play their roles.
00:58:57 Even Pritchard, he's just perfectly playing his role
00:59:00 right now.
00:59:01 Hauser, too.
00:59:02 Cornett.
00:59:03 And that's worked well, I agree, with the starters.
00:59:06 I've wanted a wing for two years.
00:59:08 If you can find a wing, get a wing.
00:59:10 Best wings in mass, they say, are Buffs, Newton,
00:59:15 and John.
00:59:16 You been?
00:59:18 Say that again?
00:59:19 Buffs a hundred times.
00:59:20 You kidding?
00:59:20 It's supposed to be pretty damn good.
00:59:21 They say it's the best in Massachusetts.
00:59:23 No, for--
00:59:23 Buffs is the best.
00:59:26 I went to this place called the--
00:59:28 Oh, yeah, I got to tell you something about Buffs.
00:59:29 Because it was up there.
00:59:30 People are going to make a mistake who go there
00:59:33 for the first time, OK?
00:59:34 Because everyone's like, oh, Buffalo Wings,
00:59:36 I'm a traditionalist.
00:59:37 And yeah, check this out, a message from our president,
00:59:40 Nick Gelso.
00:59:41 One follower away from 10K.
00:59:43 Wow.
00:59:44 Whoever gets there gets a photographed picture of Nick.
00:59:50 Holding up the 10,000--
00:59:51 That photograph right there.
00:59:52 With a martini glass and smoke dangling out of his mouth.
00:59:55 If you go to Buffs, don't make this mistake.
01:00:01 Everyone's like, Buffalo Wings, of course.
01:00:03 Duh, and I'm going to get the Buffalo Wings.
01:00:05 And then you see they have other stuff on the menu.
01:00:07 I'm like, I'm a purist.
01:00:08 I like my--
01:00:09 John goes off menu, let me guess.
01:00:10 John, you got to tell him the secret password.
01:00:12 No, no, no.
01:00:14 You got to click your heels three times.
01:00:18 You get the Honey Hots, and then you never look back.
01:00:21 And then honestly, you'll never order anything again
01:00:23 in your life.
01:00:24 That does sound good.
01:00:26 Honey Hot's my favorite flavor, but I've never been to Buffs.
01:00:28 Honey Hots are insanely good.
01:00:31 And then you'll be like, I've fought it for a while.
01:00:33 I'm like, that's stupid.
01:00:34 I like Buffalo Wings.
01:00:35 I love them.
01:00:36 I'm not getting this honey shit.
01:00:38 And then I got it.
01:00:38 I'm like, I'm never going to order anything else.
01:00:40 So get the Honey Hots if you go to Buffs.
01:00:43 Do they have turkey burgers?
01:00:46 God, Bobby.
01:00:47 Give it, Bobby.
01:00:48 You know where I went for Wings.
01:00:50 And Haddock.
01:00:50 Just get what you're supposed to get.
01:00:53 Haddock sandwich.
01:00:55 I got to give a shout out to one other Wing place.
01:00:58 I got takeout there for a Christmas party I had,
01:01:01 the pub in Somerville.
01:01:03 If you don't want to go all the way to Newton
01:01:06 and you live in the city, the pub in Somerville.
01:01:08 And I did Honey Hot.
01:01:10 And they were unbelievable.
01:01:11 So far from the city.
01:01:12 It's literally off the pike.
01:01:13 It touches right here.
01:01:14 It's not far from the city.
01:01:15 But if you go at the wrong time, you're sitting.
01:01:17 You're just sitting on the pike.
01:01:18 You're sitting in traffic.
01:01:19 Well, don't go at 3 o'clock.
01:01:21 And not to mention the people in Newton.
01:01:22 Don't get me started about the people in Newton.
01:01:25 We've got our problems right now, Newton.
01:01:28 But anyways.
01:01:30 Yeah, you guys.
01:01:31 Is school even happening today in Newton?
01:01:34 Or tomorrow.
01:01:35 Are the kids home?
01:01:37 Yeah.
01:01:38 Wow.
01:01:40 Things are interesting over at the Zanis household.
01:01:45 Hey, let's pay these teachers and get these kids back
01:01:48 in school, OK?
01:01:50 When it comes down to it.
01:01:51 I'm expecting--
01:01:56 You need to get paid, John.
01:01:58 I'm expecting an apology cam from the chat soon.
01:02:02 And luckily, I got one last night after the Black game.
01:02:06 I think most fans are ready to admit Cornette's good.
01:02:10 Here it comes.
01:02:11 Oh, God.
01:02:12 Put the Cornette thing up.
01:02:13 Didn't you already try this stuff?
01:02:15 Hang on.
01:02:17 You auditioned this take on text.
01:02:18 And I thought we kind of--
01:02:20 I thought I'd be--
01:02:20 You buried him.
01:02:21 You buried him, actually.
01:02:23 I had to put my phone down for a few minutes.
01:02:25 And I was like, oh.
01:02:27 Oh, I was scrolling.
01:02:27 Oh.
01:02:28 Again, you look at the per 36 for him this year.
01:02:31 12 points, nine rebounds, two and a half blocks.
01:02:35 That's not realistic, Bobby.
01:02:38 He can't get that in 36 minutes?
01:02:39 He's never going to--
01:02:41 no, he can't.
01:02:41 No, he can't.
01:02:43 Well, what did he do last night?
01:02:45 I don't think he's going to consistently-- he's never going
01:02:47 to play 36 minutes consistently.
01:02:49 No, but that's not the point.
01:02:51 It's that in his limited minutes, he's doing a lot.
01:02:54 And last night, it was 8, 9, and 23 minutes.
01:02:58 So he would have a double-double easily there in 36,
01:03:01 plus three blocks in 23 minutes.
01:03:03 So for a guy who has a pretty narrow role, who's
01:03:06 making a million dollars, he's been really good.
01:03:10 And he's been consistent.
01:03:11 I mean, you haven't looked at many games this year
01:03:13 and said, oh, Cornette's killing them.
01:03:15 They can't even play this guy.
01:03:16 And that's how people felt about him coming in the year.
01:03:18 I think for the money and the role, he is fine.
01:03:22 For the money and the role, he is fine.
01:03:23 I'll take it.
01:03:26 He just-- Bobby, I mean, let's be honest.
01:03:28 He's tall, white, and goofy.
01:03:30 He's always--
01:03:30 That's why people thought he was awful.
01:03:33 No, it's mainly because he's not great.
01:03:37 That's it.
01:03:37 That's why he gets--
01:03:39 He's not great, but he's good.
01:03:40 --cracked on a lot of the court.
01:03:41 No, he's not good either.
01:03:42 He's not good.
01:03:43 That's the point.
01:03:43 No, he's not good, Bobby.
01:03:45 He can block three shots in 20 minutes.
01:03:47 He's a good passer.
01:03:48 He's a really good finisher now at this point.
01:03:50 His rebounding's come a long way.
01:03:52 OK, but he's like--
01:03:53 He's better, John.
01:03:54 I think he's gotten-- he's a little bit more polished
01:03:55 out there.
01:03:56 It feels like he's--
01:03:57 I just--
01:03:57 He's almost got that volleyball tip down.
01:03:59 He's just rimmed out a couple.
01:04:00 I just--
01:04:00 How many times have we talked, John,
01:04:02 they got to find these diamonds in the rough.
01:04:04 They got to develop talent.
01:04:05 Well, they get this guy in 2021, and he's just jacking threes
01:04:09 and can't do anything.
01:04:11 And here we are in 2024, and he's a capable backup center.
01:04:14 Backup to the backup.
01:04:16 He's a backup to the backup.
01:04:18 Yeah, and if one guy goes down, as we said,
01:04:21 he's the backup.
01:04:22 He's the agent to the backup.
01:04:23 OK, yeah.
01:04:24 In a real world, Luke Cornett, he has one talent,
01:04:31 and he's seven feet tall.
01:04:33 That's about it.
01:04:35 I've gone over the stats.
01:04:37 You're like, oh, he's killing Keita.
01:04:39 Keita has better everything, statistically everything.
01:04:42 Yeah, but Keita can't play in games.
01:04:45 No, because they won't let him stay in games.
01:04:47 Bobby, we've been over this before.
01:04:48 It's the college.
01:04:50 But I mean, you're picking one stat that
01:04:52 helps make an argument for you.
01:04:54 It's a trust issue.
01:04:55 But Cornett has a better net rating.
01:04:57 They have a better offensive rating when he's on the court.
01:04:59 He's a better rebounder.
01:05:00 He has a better rebound percentage.
01:05:02 He has a higher plus minus.
01:05:03 His stats are better across the board.
01:05:06 And I still watch Keita, and I'm like,
01:05:08 this guy's pretty terrible.
01:05:09 So Cornett is worse than that.
01:05:11 He's fine, but he's a break glass in case of emergency guy.
01:05:16 He's not supposed to play.
01:05:20 In an ideal world, if you're counting on Luke Cornett
01:05:22 minutes, it's not great.
01:05:24 I think he's fine for five to eight minutes a game
01:05:27 when everybody's healthy, and honestly, sometimes not
01:05:30 even necessary.
01:05:32 And against certain matchups, it's fine.
01:05:33 But I think you're just not taking into account how much
01:05:37 you lose with him and how much--
01:05:41 I think he's fine.
01:05:42 I think he's fine.
01:05:43 The argument isn't whether he's passable.
01:05:47 Your argument was Luke deserves minutes,
01:05:49 and the counter argument was he doesn't deserve minutes,
01:05:52 but he's not killing you when he's out there.
01:05:55 Can we just leave it at that and then not talk about it again?
01:05:58 I think he's had a good season.
01:06:00 But he's not deserving of minutes.
01:06:02 I think he's not--
01:06:04 Can we go to the prediction board?
01:06:06 When you play those guys--
01:06:08 I think you predicted for the second straight season
01:06:10 he'd have more DMPs than games.
01:06:11 I know, but that was just a--
01:06:13 That was just to tweak you.
01:06:15 The point is, when you go to these guys,
01:06:18 whether it's Cornett or Cantor or whoever it is--
01:06:21 Don't put him in that sentence.
01:06:23 Well, Cantor was clearly a far more accomplished pro
01:06:26 than Cornett by miles.
01:06:28 Cornett doesn't want to be in a sentence.
01:06:30 Cantor doesn't want to be in a sentence with Cornett,
01:06:32 not the other way around.
01:06:33 Yeah.
01:06:33 Cantor could actually do things out there.
01:06:35 But it was all a matter of, is the good
01:06:38 going to outweigh the bad, or am I going to get killed?
01:06:41 We found Luke's burner.
01:06:44 It's always a fear when you go to those situations.
01:06:47 It's like, he's been out there for three minutes
01:06:49 and we're minus 10.
01:06:50 Get him out, get him out, get him out.
01:06:51 He's not doing that.
01:06:52 He's not killing you, which means he's doing OK.
01:06:55 When you're the third center and the ninth or 10th guy
01:06:57 on a team, that's fine.
01:07:00 He's doing-- for that, if that's the standard, absolutely fine.
01:07:04 We're fighting between good and fine right now,
01:07:07 and I'm going to hold out on good.
01:07:10 OK.
01:07:10 At least on what he's done so far.
01:07:11 And you might be right, John.
01:07:13 He might not be any factor at all in the playoffs.
01:07:15 But the way he's playing right now,
01:07:17 they might give him a rotation if they're
01:07:19 going double big in a series.
01:07:20 So we will see.
01:07:23 Bobby, this is the one thing Bobby will stand for,
01:07:26 is Luke's slander.
01:07:28 Listen, everybody's been all over him for years,
01:07:32 so someone's got to defend him.
01:07:34 Hey, keep fighting the good fight, my friend.
01:07:36 Does somebody have to defend him?
01:07:39 Yeah, because everyone thinks he stinks.
01:07:41 It'd be nice if he would defend somebody.
01:07:44 I like the guy.
01:07:45 I don't want to slander him.
01:07:46 He's second on that chart.
01:07:48 I think he's honestly like the glue--
01:07:50 he's like a big glue guy on this team.
01:07:54 He's fifth?
01:07:55 No, he's gotten better, which is all
01:07:57 you can ask of a guy like that.
01:07:58 And I think it goes for all the guys on the bench this year,
01:08:01 because I think across the board,
01:08:02 you looked at this bench coming in and went, ugh.
01:08:04 Like Pritchard and BiggerMinutes,
01:08:07 Houser, couldn't play in the playoffs last year.
01:08:11 But again, going back to that Wizards game,
01:08:14 where they were just a disaster and they took the walk of shame,
01:08:17 it feels like they've played well in all but a handful
01:08:21 of games since.
01:08:22 And that's like 30 games ago, 40 games ago now.
01:08:24 So I credit to them.
01:08:26 It might not translate to the playoffs.
01:08:28 That's usually the case with guys like this.
01:08:31 But the fact that on a team that's resting a lot,
01:08:34 and again, you squeeze out another night of poor Zingas
01:08:36 rest tonight and win, you squeeze out a night of Horford
01:08:39 rest last night and win, these guys are important.
01:08:42 And even if they just give you good regular season minutes
01:08:44 and they have to tighten things up in the playoffs
01:08:46 and eliminate these guys, it'll play an important role
01:08:49 this year, especially if they end up being the one seed.
01:08:52 OK, fair enough.
01:08:54 One more time, I'll solicit donations here
01:08:57 to go to the Kaid family, the tragic passing
01:08:59 of their daughter, three months short of her third birthday,
01:09:05 Hallie, passed away over the weekend.
01:09:07 If you can donate any way you can,
01:09:10 the GoFundMe page is in the chat.
01:09:12 And also, as we said, all proceeds
01:09:14 and all super chats of which you have donated generously
01:09:18 throughout the night, all proceeds
01:09:20 will go directly to the Kaid family.
01:09:22 Here, we're going to talk for about another 5, 10 minutes.
01:09:25 And if you guys are nice, we might end the show
01:09:28 with a surprise as well.
01:09:29 But again, dig deep, Garden Report family.
01:09:31 We appreciate all the contributions right now.
01:09:34 Please bring it if you can here.
01:09:39 Wrapping up this game and then kind of moving on here,
01:09:42 2-0 to start the road trip.
01:09:43 Great.
01:09:44 What do we got, Miami coming up next?
01:09:46 That's a fun one.
01:09:49 Yeah, there's a--
01:09:51 Oh, people wanted a little Horford talk tonight.
01:09:54 I think it's fair to talk a little bit about Al,
01:09:57 obviously, on nights, particularly nights where
01:10:00 he's got to carry the load here.
01:10:02 Did you see him at the end defending Kyrie?
01:10:04 I love when he's able to switch on the ones like that.
01:10:07 And there are a few centers who do it better, never mind
01:10:10 a 38-year-old, 37-year-old.
01:10:13 Still moves great, man.
01:10:15 I don't know what else you're asking for out of this guy.
01:10:18 They could have given him a little help
01:10:20 when he got switched with Luka on him.
01:10:22 But other than that, I thought he did fine.
01:10:24 Well, that's part of their system, Jimmy,
01:10:25 is they want to guard one-on-one when they're switching.
01:10:28 So you're not bringing help.
01:10:30 You're not running off of shooters.
01:10:32 Remember the East Finals last year, where they're just
01:10:35 leaving Caleb Martin off the whole time.
01:10:36 This lineup for them with Horford at the 5
01:10:39 is still important because you're switching everything
01:10:41 out there.
01:10:41 And Porzingis has done it well at points this year,
01:10:45 way better than expected out on the perimeter.
01:10:48 But this is still the guy, if you want to go to small ball,
01:10:51 if you want to go to more switchy defense,
01:10:54 he's still capable of that, which
01:10:56 is amazing to think about.
01:10:58 And you know what I love, John, in this game?
01:11:00 They got him that look early at the basket.
01:11:02 The and one, I think it was.
01:11:04 And we've said it.
01:11:06 I think you said it too, Jimmy.
01:11:08 Just one shot at the basket a game for him.
01:11:11 He doesn't have to be exclusively three-pointers.
01:11:14 And he can go in there against a small
01:11:17 and finish off the glass.
01:11:18 It's not a strength of his anymore.
01:11:19 In fact, it's probably the biggest weakness in his game,
01:11:21 the part that's diminished the most.
01:11:23 But he can go out there, as you saw tonight, John,
01:11:25 and finish against a small.
01:11:27 It's funny, because halfway there, he's like, oh,
01:11:30 I can get there.
01:11:31 And then he did it.
01:11:32 Yeah, it's like a flashback.
01:11:34 He was like, is this cool?
01:11:35 Can I do this?
01:11:36 And then he's like, it is.
01:11:37 What the fuck?
01:11:38 I'm freaking looking at this guy.
01:11:39 Joe's not pointing to the bench, taking him out for not taking
01:11:44 a three.
01:11:45 Yeah, and it was easy.
01:11:46 It looked easy.
01:11:48 And it was, because he can still move.
01:11:51 He can still get there.
01:11:52 Yeah, yeah.
01:11:55 So you do that with Porzingis.
01:11:56 You want to be able to do it with some other guys.
01:11:58 And we talked about Brian and Tatum's post-up games.
01:12:01 Horford has it in him a little bit, too.
01:12:03 And he's mostly going to space out there.
01:12:05 I love when he's on the floor as a passer.
01:12:07 It feels like every time he gets extended run,
01:12:09 he's going to have three assists.
01:12:11 And so his ability to come in, we talked about it.
01:12:14 What if a guy goes down in the playoffs?
01:12:16 The most likely player of all the starters
01:12:18 here would be Porzingis, right?
01:12:22 Horford's still able to step in there
01:12:23 and give you a lot as a starting center, which
01:12:25 is probably one of the biggest luxuries in the league.
01:12:29 Yep.
01:12:30 So there's a lot of demand.
01:12:32 Speaking of the league, speaking of the league, how about--
01:12:35 Jimmy's--
01:12:36 How about him beating Kat tonight?
01:12:38 How about him beating Kat tonight, though?
01:12:40 All right, we'll give you a little of this.
01:12:42 So this was-- is this true?
01:12:43 This is the Kobe 81 anniversary?
01:12:47 Yep.
01:12:48 That can't be right, is it?
01:12:49 18 years?
01:12:51 Why can't that be right?
01:12:53 Is that right?
01:12:53 Was it-- is that right?
01:12:54 I saw it tweeted, I think.
01:12:55 I believe it was 18 years ago, right?
01:12:57 I think I saw Brandy tweet it.
01:13:00 So something weird in the water, right?
01:13:02 Yeah, January 22, 2006, 18 years ago.
01:13:07 Kobe goes for 81.
01:13:08 Embiid goes for freaking 70.
01:13:10 What-- was this a message against Wemby here?
01:13:13 [LAUGHTER]
01:13:16 Like--
01:13:17 I mean, this is the one guy.
01:13:18 I think they only went by 10.
01:13:20 How about this dude?
01:13:20 Can't figure it out.
01:13:21 Yeah.
01:13:22 Wemby, by the way, goes for 33 and doesn't even
01:13:25 get halfway to what Embiid got tonight, which is bananas.
01:13:29 Crazy.
01:13:29 41 field goal attempts, 24 makes.
01:13:32 21--
01:13:33 41 field goals, 23 free throws.
01:13:36 I mean, come on.
01:13:37 A lot of shots.
01:13:39 This was like personal.
01:13:40 Wemby, again.
01:13:41 Wemby goes for 33 points in 28 minutes with--
01:13:47 I mean, again, we've talked about his per 36.
01:13:50 I'm sure Wemby--
01:13:51 --where he'd be right now.
01:13:53 And he gets absolutely smoked here.
01:13:56 And then Cat puts up 41 in the freaking half against--
01:14:02 By the way--
01:14:05 --against the Hornets.
01:14:06 And then he just ran out of gas.
01:14:08 And then they lose.
01:14:09 But he still puts in 62, yeah.
01:14:10 By the way, the Spurs lose every night.
01:14:12 What do you mean, lose?
01:14:13 The Spurs lose every night.
01:14:15 They're like Pistons bad.
01:14:16 And Pops just up there doing like a comedy routine.
01:14:22 I know.
01:14:22 I know.
01:14:22 The Pops stuff is getting all right.
01:14:24 I tweeted something about it.
01:14:26 He came out pregame.
01:14:28 And he goes, we're going to hammer his ass.
01:14:30 We're going to have Victor go at him.
01:14:32 We're going to have him post him up.
01:14:34 I told Wemby to stick him.
01:14:35 Put your butt right in his stomach.
01:14:37 Back him down over the rim.
01:14:38 And just throw it right over the rim.
01:14:40 That's what we look forward to.
01:14:41 Don't tell Wemby I said that.
01:14:44 And then all the reporters are given a bunch of laughs,
01:14:48 I imagine.
01:14:48 And it's, ah, Pop, you're the best, Pop.
01:14:50 And they fall to 7 and 40.
01:14:51 So listen, it's similar to the Bill thing, right?
01:14:56 Not exactly, but there's some similarities there.
01:14:59 And it helps when you're a little bit more fun,
01:15:02 as Pop's been here.
01:15:03 Pop is far more funny and playful.
01:15:07 He can be really a jerk.
01:15:10 Bill didn't have the gear that Pop has to be engaging
01:15:14 or to do the political stuff or to speak his mind.
01:15:19 Bill was a rebel.
01:15:20 Pop's a statesman, for sure, in a way that Bill wouldn't--
01:15:22 And he showed a personality.
01:15:25 Pop's pretty arrogant, too, though.
01:15:26 I mean, he just gets away with it
01:15:28 because he'll act like your friend on another occasion.
01:15:33 And then you'll give him a free pass.
01:15:35 There's a human side to his personality.
01:15:37 Bill doesn't show it.
01:15:38 That's all I'm saying.
01:15:40 He also didn't force Duncan out of town or Ginobili or Kawhi.
01:15:45 There was a strange Kawhi ending.
01:15:46 He didn't force those guys out of town.
01:15:48 Yeah, the Kawhi thing was tough.
01:15:49 But he didn't basically say Kawhi's got nothing left
01:15:53 in the tank, and we're going to--
01:15:54 Yeah, no, it's a defining decision by Bill there.
01:15:59 And he deserves some time to see this out, probably, Pop.
01:16:02 But bad season there, giving up 7 to 8 in the end.
01:16:07 But yeah, is that your biggest threat?
01:16:11 I don't even want to talk about Minnesota.
01:16:13 Get that guy.
01:16:13 No, I don't want to talk about anything else anymore,
01:16:15 actually.
01:16:17 Is Philly your biggest threat?
01:16:18 That's it, guys.
01:16:19 No, we're done.
01:16:21 We're not doing playoff preview right now.
01:16:23 Philly, right now, is probably your biggest threat, Bobby.
01:16:27 I don't know yet.
01:16:29 Ask me after the deadline.
01:16:30 John has to think about it.
01:16:31 We have to go to the deadline.
01:16:32 We have to go to the deadline.
01:16:33 OK, stop.
01:16:34 Ready?
01:16:35 Everybody wants it.
01:16:37 Bobby's one-on-one?
01:16:39 Well, maybe.
01:16:40 Pay close attention and tell me what you see here.
01:16:42 --think he'll play early on?
01:16:44 I'm not either.
01:16:45 But if Horford's out, I think it's an option.
01:16:47 And there's plenty of time left.
01:16:52 But he seems like--
01:16:54 what the hell is so funny?
01:16:55 He seems like somebody who can contribute.
01:16:58 What's going on in the chat?
01:17:01 You have control of the chat, John.
01:17:02 Let it rip.
01:17:03 Nothing.
01:17:04 I just--
01:17:04 Let it rip.
01:17:05 I thought somebody let one rip, and it started giggling.
01:17:09 No, you know what that was?
01:17:10 It was actually over here.
01:17:11 I moved my seat.
01:17:12 That was the classic seat.
01:17:14 So it was Jimmy.
01:17:15 The chat's been all over it, so I've just been like, hold on.
01:17:18 I didn't even know you guys could hear that.
01:17:19 The chat called it.
01:17:20 It was Jimmy.
01:17:22 It was Jimmy.
01:17:24 I wasn't going to say anything.
01:17:25 I was like, OK, so that happened.
01:17:27 And I just kept going.
01:17:29 I need to hear that live.
01:17:31 Play early.
01:17:32 It just went like--
01:17:32 I'm not either.
01:17:33 But if Horford's out, I think it's an option.
01:17:35 We did a dead pause in our--
01:17:38 There's plenty of time left.
01:17:40 Hold on.
01:17:41 We can't hear it one more time.
01:17:43 Wait.
01:17:44 That did not sound like a seat, Jimmy.
01:17:46 It absolutely was a seat.
01:17:49 I moved right at the same time, too.
01:17:50 Why am I going big screen for this?
01:17:52 I can't figure it out, Amit.
01:17:54 Oh, you had it before with three of us in the corner.
01:17:56 Here you go.
01:17:57 What is the hell is he playing?
01:17:59 He seems like somebody who--
01:18:02 We think he'll play early on.
01:18:03 I'm not either, but if Horford's out, I think it's an option.
01:18:06 [LAUGHTER]
01:18:09 There's plenty of time left, but--
01:18:11 Hold on.
01:18:11 Let's rewind.
01:18:12 Right when I moved, you have to hear that.
01:18:14 Shh.
01:18:15 Quiet.
01:18:16 We think he'll play early on.
01:18:18 I'm not either, but if Horford's out, I think it's an option.
01:18:21 [LAUGHTER]
01:18:24 There's plenty of time--
01:18:25 [LAUGHTER]
01:18:27 That did not sound like a chair.
01:18:29 It was a freaking chair.
01:18:31 It does sound like a chair with leathery type--
01:18:34 I don't know what I was wearing.
01:18:35 Can you recreate the sound right now?
01:18:37 No, because I don't have the right pants on right now.
01:18:39 [LAUGHTER]
01:18:40 Yeah, I dare you to recreate it.
01:18:43 [LAUGHTER]
01:18:46 Oh, I'm so glad we found that.
01:18:47 That was one of the best moments.
01:18:48 Wow.
01:18:50 And we just ignored it.
01:18:51 Who found that?
01:18:52 How did the guy know it was from the preseason
01:18:55 game against the Magic?
01:18:58 No, one more time.
01:18:59 Look at how we all go silent right after it happens,
01:19:02 and then we just try to ignore it.
01:19:04 But--
01:19:05 We think he'll play early on.
01:19:07 I'm not either, but if Horford's out, I think it's an option.
01:19:10 [DOG BARKING]
01:19:11 [LAUGHTER]
01:19:13 There's plenty of time left, but he seems like--
01:19:16 what the hell is so funny?
01:19:17 [LAUGHTER]
01:19:20 Everyone just stopped.
01:19:21 We were in mid-conversation, and it just--
01:19:23 [LAUGHTER]
01:19:24 Oh, my god.
01:19:26 Oh, my god.
01:19:26 Guys.
01:19:28 Whatever.
01:19:28 I'm going to shut the room.
01:19:30 Oh, my god.
01:19:31 It's too funny.
01:19:32 I remember what pants I was wearing.
01:19:33 I think I was wearing my Adidas track pants.
01:19:35 I'm going to have to put them on for the next show.
01:19:37 All right.
01:19:38 You have to recreate it.
01:19:40 I'm going to try to recreate it.
01:19:41 That'll be the only true test.
01:19:43 The whole show, Jimmy's just going to--
01:19:45 he's not going to say a thing.
01:19:46 He's just going to be--
01:19:47 I'm going to be moving like this.
01:19:48 Oh, you guys-- did you hear that?
01:19:50 You guys hear that?
01:19:52 All right.
01:19:53 2021, huh?
01:19:54 I think if you really put--
01:19:55 you've got to listen to it not thinking fart.
01:19:58 Listen to it thinking chair sound.
01:20:01 That's what I was going into it.
01:20:02 You'll hear the chair sound.
01:20:04 And then the sound is just--
01:20:07 the sound is unmistakable.
01:20:08 I would have done more like--
01:20:10 It did look a little bit that you kind of--
01:20:13 like, lifted up a little bit.
01:20:16 I did.
01:20:17 Not lifted up to fart, but I lifted it up.
01:20:19 And when I did it, I scooted in my chair.
01:20:22 Even Luke saw it.
01:20:26 I wouldn't have lifted--
01:20:29 Your mic must have been turned all the way up
01:20:31 the way it caught it.
01:20:33 It's-- when you squeak in your--
01:20:36 when your chair squeaks or whenever that sound happens,
01:20:39 it's loud.
01:20:40 That's why I picked it up.
01:20:41 It is what it is.
01:20:45 All right, I had more fun watching the Bat Bobby's
01:20:48 one-on-one drills.
01:20:50 Never wore the pant--
01:20:51 you've never had that pant-chair combo again in the three years
01:20:55 since?
01:20:56 I'm like, no, I'm cognizant of it now.
01:20:58 Now I'm petrified that's going to happen again.
01:21:00 So I don't move like that anymore.
01:21:03 We just try to keep the show going.
01:21:04 We didn't even acknowledge it, but the chat was all over it.
01:21:08 I mean, it was loud.
01:21:09 I mean, that was--
01:21:12 that was why I didn't--
01:21:14 that's why I didn't react when it happened, because I was like--
01:21:17 I knew it sounded like a fart, but I didn't know it was--
01:21:20 you guys could hear it like that.
01:21:22 Oh, yeah, it was loud and clear.
01:21:25 Yeah.
01:21:26 Anyway, thank you guys for hanging out.
01:21:29 The donations, again, you can--
01:21:32 No one's on my side here.
01:21:35 The Super Chat's obviously shut down
01:21:36 when the show stops being live, but anybody
01:21:40 who wants to donate directly to the Kaid family,
01:21:42 please do so on the link that we provided in our chat.
01:21:45 Are we donated?
01:21:46 What do we end up with?
01:21:47 Do you know how much?
01:21:48 No, but we'll fill you in after, because we'll
01:21:51 see what else comes in.
01:21:53 But again, Super Chat donations and anything that you do,
01:21:56 obviously, you can go donate yourself as well.
01:22:00 And we do appreciate everybody here who did chip in.
01:22:03 Thank you again, Garden Report family.
01:22:05 Celtics defeat the Dallas Mavericks 34 to--
01:22:09 I mean, 34 to 10--
01:22:09 119 to 110.
01:22:12 Back-to-back wins.
01:22:13 Celtics improved to 34 and 10 on the season.
01:22:16 They got Miami coming up in two nights, is it?
01:22:19 Is it Wednesday?
01:22:19 Yeah, Thursday night.
01:22:21 Thursday night, Thursday night.
01:22:22 So that should be fun.
01:22:23 Always fun when they play those guys.
01:22:25 So again, thank you guys for hanging out.
01:22:26 Nick's is close to 1,000.
01:22:28 Nick's is close to 1,000.
01:22:29 Terrific.
01:22:30 Terrific job, everybody.
01:22:31 Thank you very much for that stuff.
01:22:33 Again, thank you guys for hanging out with us.
01:22:34 Always a pleasure.
01:22:36 Always fun.
01:22:37 I'm just going to throw that music in.
01:22:39 I'm going to say--
01:22:41 Yeah.
01:22:41 [INAUDIBLE]
01:22:44 Not again.
01:22:47 That was a sound effect.
01:22:48 One more time, going to--
01:22:49 It's like somebody--
01:22:50 --we think he'll play early on.
01:22:52 I'm not either, but if Horford's out, I think it's an option.
01:22:55 There's plenty of time left, but he seems like--
01:23:02 It's all right.
01:23:03 John couldn't even keep himself contained.
01:23:06 No, it's all right.
01:23:07 See you all.
01:23:08 Oh, man.
