00:00:00 (upbeat music)
00:00:02 - Can you say hard hats folks?
00:00:05 Hard hats, munch pails, steel tool boots.
00:00:08 - Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:10 - Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:12 - You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:14 - Somebody said we need to apologize for Jamie.
00:00:16 - Can I pull the John?
00:00:17 What are we apologizing for?
00:00:19 What'd we say?
00:00:19 What'd we do?
00:00:20 (upbeat music)
00:00:29 - Mm-mm, mm-mm.
00:00:31 - Outro in the works.
00:00:33 - Yeah, being a little bit of an outro.
00:00:35 That means we won't get cut off on YouTube anymore.
00:00:37 - Yes.
00:00:38 - All of our outros, when I watch them all back,
00:00:41 and we never actually say goodbye to everybody on the show
00:00:45 'cause we always get cut off.
00:00:47 - Yeah.
00:00:48 - The live show we do, I think,
00:00:49 but not on the YouTube version.
00:00:52 Anyways.
00:00:53 - Yeah, anyways.
00:00:54 - Outro in the works.
00:00:56 - Somewhere on this planet,
00:00:58 there are two people that could spend the next hour
00:01:00 talking about basketball with this game.
00:01:04 We are not those two people.
00:01:06 (laughing)
00:01:08 - I was gonna say, where's he going with this?
00:01:09 (laughing)
00:01:10 Not us.
00:01:11 - It's not us.
00:01:12 If you're looking for 60 minutes of deep analysis
00:01:17 on this particular program, on this particular game,
00:01:21 you're not gonna get it.
00:01:22 You're not gonna get it.
00:01:23 You might get some Gerard Mayo talking.
00:01:25 - Get a few.
00:01:26 - You might get some Pascal Siakam talk.
00:01:30 - Not from Joe.
00:01:32 Not from Joe, though.
00:01:33 - Not from Joe.
00:01:34 - Not from us, you will.
00:01:35 - No, not from Joe.
00:01:36 - You get some Mayo, little Siakam, little Wemby talk.
00:01:39 We'll mix in Wemby talk.
00:01:40 - Yeah, you might get pie talk.
00:01:42 - I get some pie talk?
00:01:45 - Yeah, you might get pie talk.
00:01:47 - We're at like a low in the cooking season.
00:01:50 Now it's like stews and like,
00:01:52 like get out the slow cooker.
00:01:55 You know what I mean?
00:01:56 - You would think so, but I have a new project.
00:01:59 - Do you?
00:01:59 - Yes.
00:02:01 - Save that.
00:02:02 - I will, but it's about wrapping things.
00:02:05 Like--
00:02:08 - I'm all about wrapping things.
00:02:09 - Empanadas, dumplings, things like that.
00:02:12 That's my new project.
00:02:15 I'm trying, homemade, homemade dumplings, pod stickers.
00:02:18 - You're getting, okay.
00:02:20 Okay, so you're getting into like
00:02:21 the flaky, crusty stuff here.
00:02:22 - No, but not, those are a little, those are more doughy.
00:02:24 But yes, empanadas could be a little flaky and crusty.
00:02:27 I'm getting into that.
00:02:28 I'm getting into that.
00:02:30 - How's it going?
00:02:31 - No, I'm saying that's my new project.
00:02:33 That's what I'm gonna start working on.
00:02:34 - Oh, okay.
00:02:34 It's like, you're not doing like,
00:02:36 like people who are doing like sourdough bread,
00:02:38 like that's old now.
00:02:40 We're onto pod stickers.
00:02:41 - I'm doing something different, yeah.
00:02:43 - Yeah, okay, I like that.
00:02:44 - Yeah, doing something different.
00:02:46 But yeah, yeah, Joe doesn't like talking about,
00:02:48 you know, a team that has owned him this year getting better.
00:02:50 That's cool.
00:02:53 - But we'll talk about it.
00:02:55 - Team that's owned him this year.
00:02:57 Oh, oh, oh, Indy, yeah.
00:02:59 - Yeah, we'll talk about it.
00:03:00 - Oh, we're gonna talk about it.
00:03:02 - Yeah, but we'll start with the game.
00:03:05 And I guess, you know.
00:03:06 - Here it is, John, this is what you're making.
00:03:08 - Ravioli is also one of the things
00:03:10 I'm talking about as well.
00:03:11 - Spanakopita, how do you say that?
00:03:14 - Spanakopita.
00:03:16 - Yeah.
00:03:17 - I make, yeah, I make that all the time.
00:03:19 That one's, that one's easy for me.
00:03:22 - Yeah, that one's in the wheelhouse.
00:03:24 That one, I don't need even, I don't need it.
00:03:26 But we're not, we're not starting with the cooking show.
00:03:27 We'll start with tonight.
00:03:28 Our second look at Wemby,
00:03:30 so it's not like as exciting as the first time through
00:03:32 because it was like, wow.
00:03:33 - I bet you more people watched it tonight though.
00:03:36 Earlier time slot, home game.
00:03:38 I think more people are probably saw him tonight
00:03:41 than they did the first time.
00:03:42 - Yes, I don't know who this question is being asked of,
00:03:45 but we'll get into our hobbies.
00:03:46 Jimmy's a musician.
00:03:47 You know, we all like to play a little basketball
00:03:50 from time to time.
00:03:51 - Do you?
00:03:53 - I used to love to play basketball.
00:03:54 I, you know my, you know my story.
00:03:56 - This is a hobby, geez.
00:03:57 I mean, this takes up three nights of my week.
00:04:00 - I suffered a stress fracture on my foot
00:04:02 and I couldn't play.
00:04:03 I was playing three, four times a week.
00:04:05 - Wow.
00:04:06 - And it never, it never healed right.
00:04:08 It was, it's the Bill Walton injury,
00:04:10 navicular stress fracture.
00:04:14 - Bill Walton, I imagine has been able to mask the pain
00:04:17 in many ways.
00:04:18 - Yeah.
00:04:19 Jimmy's a singer.
00:04:20 I'm a baker.
00:04:22 But.
00:04:23 - We should do a craft,
00:04:24 we should do a craft fair this summer, John.
00:04:26 - I'm not even that good a cook.
00:04:27 I just like to cook.
00:04:28 I'm all right.
00:04:30 Jimmy's a very good singer though.
00:04:32 - Well, you haven't even,
00:04:33 I mean, I've been trying to get you
00:04:34 to come to a gig for a year.
00:04:35 Guy's got more excuses than,
00:04:38 I don't know.
00:04:41 I have nothing.
00:04:41 - Guy's got more kids than everybody
00:04:43 on the "Garden Report" combined.
00:04:44 That's the problem.
00:04:45 - That is true.
00:04:46 Bring the kids.
00:04:47 - Yeah.
00:04:48 - Jimmy's a all ages, all ages show.
00:04:50 - Yeah.
00:04:51 - Anyways.
00:04:52 - So starting with tonight,
00:04:54 a clear like tune up, rest up sort of game.
00:04:57 Derek White and Porzingis both sat with fake injuries.
00:05:00 And.
00:05:02 - Yeah, and which is, I will say this,
00:05:03 shout out to the "Garden Report" on Monday
00:05:07 for calling that Derek White needed a night.
00:05:11 He's had a rough, bit of a rough stretch.
00:05:13 - Shooting wise, for sure.
00:05:14 - And we said he's probably due for a break.
00:05:16 - Yeah.
00:05:17 - One of those fake injury breaks.
00:05:19 - Yep.
00:05:20 - So yeah, he was due and he got it.
00:05:23 And I mean, when Joe,
00:05:25 you know injuries are bullshit when,
00:05:27 well, number one, they go on the injury report
00:05:30 as questionable,
00:05:32 and then they're completely removed from it
00:05:34 for the next game.
00:05:36 Number two, Joe said after the game,
00:05:38 they're not missing more than a game.
00:05:39 So these were maintenance or rest days,
00:05:42 and that's totally fine.
00:05:44 And that's what we got tonight.
00:05:46 But there's still more than enough here.
00:05:47 I mean, the Spurs are playing with,
00:05:49 they're a bad team playing with half a deck.
00:05:51 So they are gonna, whatever.
00:05:53 But we did get a Luke Cornett start,
00:05:55 which means Bobby's gonna come in here
00:05:56 and start saying some shit.
00:05:58 - Yeah, Bobby's on,
00:06:01 I'm gonna have the Tangway button ready
00:06:02 because it was Cornett versus Wemby tonight,
00:06:07 according to Bobby,
00:06:07 and everybody else didn't really even matter.
00:06:09 - That's the story really, Cornett.
00:06:11 Cornett's the story.
00:06:13 We should, I'm not gonna get into it, but anyway.
00:06:17 - Yeah.
00:06:18 - Oh, this is, how about this super chat?
00:06:20 - You're being asked to go play gig in Portland.
00:06:24 - Portland, Maine, or Portland, Oregon?
00:06:27 I'd hate to show up at the wrong one.
00:06:30 I'll go to Maine.
00:06:33 I'm actually trying to get into a,
00:06:35 I'm trying to get to like,
00:06:36 there's a couple gigs I'm trying to get into
00:06:39 up in like Southern Maine right now.
00:06:41 I'll go to the Portland,
00:06:42 dominate up there for a bit.
00:06:43 How about this?
00:06:44 Should we get to find these clips?
00:06:46 - Omit, let's find these clips.
00:06:48 I would love to put these clips on the show.
00:06:51 - First of all, Bobby has his own YouTube channel.
00:06:53 - Yeah, what channel is this?
00:06:54 - What channel?
00:06:55 I don't know, I know nothing of this.
00:06:56 - It's an experience, I love that.
00:06:58 Yeah, we need to find that.
00:07:01 We need to find those clips
00:07:03 and we need to cut them, Omit, if you're listening.
00:07:05 - Yeah.
00:07:07 - Thank you for the, by the way,
00:07:08 thank you for the super chat, Deflategate.
00:07:09 - Yes.
00:07:10 - Deflategate, all time, all time,
00:07:12 all time moment in my life.
00:07:15 - Yeah, I just blocked somebody for spamming the chat.
00:07:17 Sorry, buddy.
00:07:18 - I apologize, what'd they say?
00:07:20 Let everybody know, no spamming.
00:07:22 - No spamming, guys.
00:07:23 Get your comment in and then move off.
00:07:26 Also don't be mean to each other.
00:07:27 Be nice to each other.
00:07:28 - We'll say this,
00:07:29 will you give him a chance to come,
00:07:31 will you, is it more of a timeout situation
00:07:33 or is he just banished for life?
00:07:34 I don't know if we should banish him for life.
00:07:37 - I'll think about it.
00:07:38 Please replace the beginning of your intro.
00:07:42 Annoying to hear fart boy with his idiotic hard hat.
00:07:45 That's what?
00:07:47 - Dude, you just called me fart boy?
00:07:48 - I didn't mean to.
00:07:49 I was just reading that one a lot.
00:07:52 What?
00:07:53 - Oscar Rosales just called me,
00:07:55 well, oh, he's calling me fart boy
00:07:57 'cause he thinks that I farted on the show.
00:07:58 - You're fart boy and hard hat boy.
00:08:00 - Sounds like he's watched a lot of this,
00:08:02 of this garden report.
00:08:06 - And we did talk about it.
00:08:07 He knows all your greatest hits.
00:08:09 - Yeah, but he apparently doesn't like any of them.
00:08:12 - Yeah, yeah, that's okay.
00:08:15 So Jimmy, I'll ask you anything.
00:08:17 I got one thing that popped for tonight
00:08:19 and one thing and one thing only,
00:08:22 and I'll get into that.
00:08:23 Anything for you?
00:08:24 - Nothing really.
00:08:25 I mean, well, Jordan Walsh popped.
00:08:27 We got our first Walsh highlights of the year
00:08:32 and it was probably a shot
00:08:35 that he's not gonna wanna watch over and over again,
00:08:38 but that's okay.
00:08:39 Other than that, nothing really popped.
00:08:41 I mean, I liked the way Holiday played again.
00:08:43 He's starting to string a couple of games together here.
00:08:46 Again, and we talked about it Monday,
00:08:48 him showing up in Brown's absence on Monday,
00:08:51 kind of continuing that trend tonight,
00:08:52 not with Brown out obviously,
00:08:53 but the Celtics were without White tonight.
00:08:56 So if it's not one starter, it's a different one,
00:08:59 but Holiday's stepping into that role.
00:09:02 And then with Porzingis out,
00:09:07 I thought this was a good win.
00:09:08 Listen, everyone knew they were gonna win this game.
00:09:10 They could afford to sit a couple of guys,
00:09:12 but guys just being able to step up, I guess,
00:09:16 has been the theme of this season so far.
00:09:18 And I think tonight was another example of that.
00:09:20 Not that I think anyone was ever concerned,
00:09:23 but that's kind of, I guess,
00:09:25 the thing that stood out to me a little bit.
00:09:26 - Yeah.
00:09:27 Holiday 10 of 13, his last two games,
00:09:29 shooting the three after like a,
00:09:32 kind of a, not a down-ish, but a little dip.
00:09:35 - He had six of seven tonight.
00:09:37 That's unreal.
00:09:38 - Six of seven, four of six the other night.
00:09:39 He had a little dip.
00:09:40 He had a couple of bad games.
00:09:41 Not terrible, but in December, scorching hot from three.
00:09:46 I mean, but, you know,
00:09:49 what I liked about Holiday tonight is,
00:09:52 like, it kind of just proves again,
00:09:57 like, he's doing this 'cause he's supposed to.
00:10:00 Like, he's not scoring as much
00:10:07 because his role on the team is just not to score as much.
00:10:10 But it feels like he's kind of settling
00:10:12 into the just get open and hit your threes sort of guy,
00:10:15 which is pretty good on this team
00:10:17 because if he's gonna hit them at a 40 plus percent clip,
00:10:19 like he's been doing, that's great.
00:10:20 But also just kind of shows that on a night
00:10:23 when you're down two starters, if you do need scoring,
00:10:25 Holiday can step up and be one of your three 20 point guys.
00:10:28 And that's what he was tonight.
00:10:29 And I just think he's got that in his bag
00:10:31 whenever he wants it.
00:10:32 And that's it.
00:10:34 And so that's my only observation for tonight.
00:10:37 - Oh, so we both had the same observation then.
00:10:39 It was both Holiday.
00:10:40 - Holiday's I think the only takeaway.
00:10:42 I mean, I just-
00:10:44 - Did you think Brown looked all right?
00:10:45 I mean, he missed Monday with-
00:10:47 - I think all of them looked fine and looked good
00:10:51 and did what they had to do and played it
00:10:53 about 75% effort, which is more than enough.
00:10:55 I actually thought their defense,
00:10:57 when they needed it to be,
00:10:58 was pretty stifling in that first half.
00:11:00 I thought they were serious.
00:11:01 And then the third quarter, they were just trying to,
00:11:04 I mean, none of the starters should have played in the fourth
00:11:07 so they mailed it in a little bit in the third,
00:11:09 but it is what it is.
00:11:11 - Yeah.
00:11:12 It was never a situation.
00:11:15 It was just Spurs made a little bit
00:11:17 of some sort of run there.
00:11:20 But yeah, I honestly thought the Celtics
00:11:22 should have benched their guys a lot sooner than they did.
00:11:25 - Yeah. And I'll give you this one too, Breset.
00:11:27 Breset, I think, has now firmly settled
00:11:30 into the role where he's gonna be that guy
00:11:34 who's gonna get those wing minutes.
00:11:37 And I think they can trust him because he's, you know,
00:11:40 he's the energy guy.
00:11:43 - We're two guys out tonight too, though.
00:11:45 Don't forget. I mean-
00:11:46 - But I think he's that guy.
00:11:48 - He's-
00:11:49 - You're that guy, pal.
00:11:50 - He's that guy, but he's not him.
00:11:51 He's just that guy that's-
00:11:52 - Yeah, he's not him, but he's that guy
00:11:55 who's gonna come in.
00:11:56 - He's that guy. He's not that-
00:11:56 - He's not that guy.
00:11:58 - He's not that dude.
00:11:59 He's just that guy.
00:12:00 Oh, that guy, yeah.
00:12:01 He comes in every once in a while
00:12:04 and he just kind of does his thing.
00:12:06 - Jimmy, you've been told,
00:12:07 Ahmet, we've been told how to find these, okay?
00:12:09 - I didn't know we had a YouTube channel, pal.
00:12:12 - You know what?
00:12:13 I'm starting my own YouTube channel, I've decided tonight.
00:12:16 - Sort by all this video.
00:12:17 Oh my God, it's gonna be like 17 year old Bobby
00:12:21 or something just like, what?
00:12:23 - And yes, I think this is correct.
00:12:25 Somebody tweeted it the other day
00:12:27 that he might, corner three is Drew Holiday,
00:12:31 I think is leading the league.
00:12:34 - Wow.
00:12:36 Bobby can tell us.
00:12:38 - Yeah.
00:12:38 - Bobby will tell us that. We'll wait.
00:12:40 I like that stat.
00:12:41 He should take more then.
00:12:42 - Yeah.
00:12:43 - That's Horford's spot, the corner three.
00:12:46 - He loves it.
00:12:48 - And that was the show. Thanks guys.
00:12:51 - That's it guys, that's all we got.
00:12:52 - We'll be back Friday.
00:12:54 - Yeah.
00:12:55 (laughs)
00:12:56 - Honestly though.
00:12:57 (laughs)
00:13:00 What do you think of Wemby, John?
00:13:01 What do you think of Wemby?
00:13:02 - So I know you and I are Wemby,
00:13:06 I'm not gonna say detractors, but Wemby-
00:13:08 - No, no, I'm not a Wemby detractor.
00:13:10 - Well, no, you are a Wemby detractor.
00:13:11 I was a Wemby skeptic.
00:13:14 - I was a Wemby skeptic.
00:13:15 - Yeah.
00:13:16 - But I mean, it was more, I wasn't ready.
00:13:19 I wasn't buying the hype ahead of time.
00:13:21 Yeah, so I was a skeptic.
00:13:23 I don't know where you're getting-
00:13:23 (laughs)
00:13:24 I don't know where you're getting detractor from.
00:13:26 (laughs)
00:13:28 Definition of skeptic, yes.
00:13:31 But I think since I'm no longer a skeptic,
00:13:33 I'm seeing is believing.
00:13:34 - What's funny is like, he's-
00:13:36 - Would you trade the Spurs roster for the Celtics roster?
00:13:39 Let's just get down to it.
00:13:40 - Yes, in a heartbeat.
00:13:40 - Let's just get down to it.
00:13:41 - Not even close, not even a question.
00:13:43 - I think you would.
00:13:44 (laughs)
00:13:45 Part of me actually thinks you would.
00:13:47 - No, only the Pelicans.
00:13:50 - Yeah, true.
00:13:50 (laughs)
00:13:53 - What's funny with Wemby is like,
00:13:54 they only let him play like, you know, 25 minutes.
00:13:57 - Head gloves on still, yeah.
00:13:59 - Yeah, I mean, he's under 30.
00:14:01 And what's funny is like,
00:14:03 his per 36 averages are like 30 points a game.
00:14:08 I mean, it's, if he was playing 36, 37 minutes a night,
00:14:13 he'd be one of the top five scorers in the league.
00:14:17 - He'd be first, second team guy.
00:14:20 - Yeah, it's like, he's scoring 20 points a game
00:14:23 in 28 minutes right now.
00:14:25 And he's shooting like garbage from three.
00:14:27 That was always a concern is the shot looks really pretty,
00:14:30 but it didn't go last year in France.
00:14:33 And we kind of had this conversation last time
00:14:35 they played them too.
00:14:36 He's still shooting at that same level, 29.
00:14:38 Now it's over a long enough kind of, you know, timeline.
00:14:41 - He's also a rookie.
00:14:42 I mean, like theoretically that's gonna-
00:14:44 - That shot's gonna fall.
00:14:45 'Cause again, he's a good free throw shooter.
00:14:47 He's shooting 80% from the free throw line.
00:14:50 He's got a really good stroke
00:14:52 and he's gonna be able to pick and pop.
00:14:53 And that percentage is gonna come up.
00:14:55 But I mean, my goodness, dude, he's 20, 10,
00:14:59 you know, with three, you know,
00:15:02 20 and 10 with three blocks in his rookie year.
00:15:05 What's Sherrod saying is that a link for the show.
00:15:07 Amit.
00:15:08 - Sherrod's telling you that?
00:15:11 You didn't tell me that.
00:15:12 - Amit, you got it?
00:15:14 - He's got it.
00:15:15 - Put some balloons in my image if that's the case.
00:15:18 - Give him a thumbs up.
00:15:22 - Amit, the Bobby stuff is real.
00:15:24 I need a clip.
00:15:25 - I need a clip too.
00:15:29 I need a clip too, man.
00:15:31 What up, Ryan?
00:15:33 - Poor Amit's down there like doing actual work.
00:15:35 And I'm here, like he's shooting press conferences
00:15:38 and trying to do stuff.
00:15:39 And I'm like, get Sherrod on the show
00:15:41 and give me the Bobby YouTube video.
00:15:43 - We need, yeah, we need the highlight,
00:15:45 Bobby highlight reel for sure.
00:15:46 - We're gonna talk about Siakam.
00:15:48 No question about it.
00:15:50 - We'll surprise Bobby with it.
00:15:52 Once Bobby comes on, nobody in the chat say anything.
00:15:54 Let's just try to, we'll ask him if he can break down
00:15:57 some highlight for us and then it'll be his.
00:15:59 - Bobby, tell us what happened on this play.
00:16:03 - Yeah.
00:16:04 Oh man.
00:16:07 No, Wemby's the real deal.
00:16:09 I don't even know what, we should check FanDuel
00:16:10 for the odds on Rookie of the Year,
00:16:12 but I imagine it's like minus 10,000 at this point.
00:16:14 - No, no, no, 'cause they're calling the other tall dude.
00:16:19 - Oh, okay, but he's still gotta be a favorite though, Wemby.
00:16:23 - No.
00:16:24 - Who am I forgetting?
00:16:27 - Second year guy, OKC.
00:16:29 I'm also losing my mind right now.
00:16:31 What's his name?
00:16:31 Jesus Christ.
00:16:32 What's wrong with me?
00:16:36 Help me.
00:16:37 - A rookie?
00:16:40 - Oh my God, the tall guy.
00:16:42 I'm just dying right now.
00:16:43 - I don't know, man.
00:16:46 I don't know what you're saying.
00:16:49 - I'm gonna let you, I'm gonna let you,
00:16:51 I'm gonna let you drown for a minute.
00:16:55 - You're not gonna do it?
00:16:56 - Chet Holmgren?
00:16:57 - Yes, Holmgren, for the love of God, my mind is gone.
00:17:00 Holmgren is counting as he's got the Ben Simmons
00:17:03 Rookie of the Year thing.
00:17:04 He's an overwhelming favorite.
00:17:06 - Oh, right.
00:17:06 So I didn't realize that he was being counted like that.
00:17:09 - Yes, he is.
00:17:10 This is funny. - That's kinda unfair.
00:17:12 - Wemby did dunk on a hook.
00:17:14 It was funny, Bobby's--
00:17:14 - That's like the Blake Griffin stuff?
00:17:16 Bobby's tweeting us, Bobby's tweeting us.
00:17:19 I mean, texting us about Cornette's stat line.
00:17:22 And just as he does that, no joke.
00:17:25 Webby turned around for what looked like a hook shot,
00:17:28 and then he's like, oh, I'm just gonna dunk this instead.
00:17:31 And just a little gentle dunk right on Luke's head.
00:17:35 - Wow, the chat, we're getting the chat
00:17:37 a little bit behind, I guess,
00:17:38 but I'm just seeing a thousand messages
00:17:40 just saying chat, chat, chat, chat, chat.
00:17:43 - Yeah, it was chat, it was chat.
00:17:44 Sorry guys, my bad.
00:17:46 - Even A. Sherrod Blakely.
00:17:48 Did Jimmy, Ahmed, did you get him the link?
00:17:51 - Wait, can you just get him the link?
00:17:53 - I can, but then I have to like mad loud type.
00:17:57 - Ahmed's clearly not listening or watching.
00:18:01 - All right, Sherrod link.
00:18:05 Okay.
00:18:06 - I like how A. Sherrod's in the chat.
00:18:11 Is it actually him or is it somebody pretending?
00:18:12 Like we have a Jason Tatum, we have a-
00:18:14 - Guys, I didn't wanna look at the chat
00:18:17 the same way I don't Google.
00:18:18 I like to just think about stuff.
00:18:20 And then I was also surprised
00:18:22 that Jimmy couldn't figure it out.
00:18:23 So I was-
00:18:24 - I wasn't thinking rookie at the time.
00:18:27 I forgot that he was being considered a rookie.
00:18:29 My bad, everybody.
00:18:32 My bad.
00:18:36 Anyways, regardless, Victor Wembeyama is a beast.
00:18:42 - Yeah, so Jimmy's not a believer,
00:18:46 but the question is like, is he gonna be like-
00:18:51 - I'm gonna look at the odds.
00:18:52 - Is he gonna be take over the league dominant?
00:18:55 - He's gotta stay, I mean,
00:18:57 the whole thing is guys that size is health.
00:19:00 Can he stay healthy?
00:19:01 If he can, and he only gets better, yeah.
00:19:03 I think he can dominate the league, absolutely.
00:19:06 I mean, there's a few guys
00:19:07 that he's gonna go toe to toe with,
00:19:09 but by the time Wembey's entering his prime
00:19:14 and B is gonna be on the downside of his career.
00:19:17 - It's Chet.
00:19:18 It's Chet.
00:19:19 - Yeah, it's Chet.
00:19:20 - Anytime you wanna help us out.
00:19:22 Yeah.
00:19:23 - We needed you, Sherrod.
00:19:25 - Apologies, I typed at least 400 of those thousand Chet
00:19:29 replies that you sent in chat.
00:19:31 - Well, then we're gonna have to ban you.
00:19:33 Like John just banned somebody earlier.
00:19:35 - Yeah, no spamming the chat, Sherrod's gone.
00:19:37 Sherrod can be on the show,
00:19:38 but he- - Okay, yeah.
00:19:40 So rookie of the year, Chet, minus 170,
00:19:44 Wembey plus 115.
00:19:46 - Yeah.
00:19:49 - So there you go.
00:19:51 Scoot Henderson plus 30,000.
00:19:53 I don't think that's gonna happen.
00:19:54 - No, no.
00:19:56 - We'd need a couple injuries.
00:19:57 - No, I think Jaime is-
00:20:01 - He is. - His third.
00:20:02 - He is, he's plus 15,000.
00:20:04 - Yeah.
00:20:06 - That didn't sound as funny though.
00:20:07 - I just skipped that one.
00:20:08 - No.
00:20:09 - Jaime.
00:20:11 - Jaime.
00:20:12 - Sherrod is banned.
00:20:13 Sherrod is banned.
00:20:16 Sherrod, we're trying desperately to keep this
00:20:18 from becoming the pie show 20 minutes in,
00:20:21 because there's not a ton to talk about,
00:20:23 but we're kind of on the Wembey train here.
00:20:25 Anything from the Celtics game?
00:20:26 Anything from the Celtics side of things stand out to you?
00:20:29 - Well, the one thing that stands out to me was that
00:20:33 Joe called off the Dawgs incredibly early.
00:20:37 I mean, like literally five minutes into the game,
00:20:40 you see, you see Brissette and Peyton
00:20:45 and all these guys that you normally don't see out there
00:20:48 as a collective group.
00:20:49 The only starter they had out there was like Jalen Brown
00:20:52 or Tate and one of those two early on.
00:20:54 And it was weird,
00:20:56 'cause you wouldn't expect to see that typically
00:20:57 until the second half where they've got
00:20:59 like a 15, 20 point lead.
00:21:00 But at that point they were up by like maybe eight or nine.
00:21:03 And so it was good to see Joe give those bench guys
00:21:07 a chance to play.
00:21:09 This was a game that for all intents and purposes
00:21:12 was a glorified scrimmage.
00:21:14 San Antonio was horrible.
00:21:15 They are a bad team, but Wembey is special.
00:21:20 And you've heard that a lot,
00:21:22 but when you see him up close and personal,
00:21:24 you see how easy the game comes in.
00:21:26 And the thing about him right now,
00:21:28 he doesn't really know how to play at this level.
00:21:30 He still can get you 20 and 10.
00:21:32 He still hasn't figured out how to be,
00:21:35 he still hasn't figured out just the mental side
00:21:38 of playing in NBA.
00:21:39 All he's going on right now is his talent
00:21:41 and his talent is getting him 20, 10
00:21:42 and three blocks a game.
00:21:44 He's that damn good.
00:21:46 - He really is like, you know, when you were-
00:21:48 - What's he like in person, Sherrod, super tall?
00:21:50 - Mike, you know, he was doing this like ball,
00:21:54 like ball handling drill and he was bent down.
00:21:56 We were like eye to eye when he's bent down
00:21:59 working on his ball handling skills.
00:22:00 He's that damn tall.
00:22:01 - His waist comes up, or Jimmy,
00:22:04 you might come up to his knee,
00:22:05 maybe slightly above his kneecaps.
00:22:07 I'm like waist level.
00:22:09 You're probably like top tier knee level.
00:22:12 - Yeah, you could like put Joe's way on my shoulders
00:22:14 and like wear a trench coat and would still be short.
00:22:17 - Yeah, like Jimmy, can you dunk on those baskets
00:22:19 you hang on your door yet or no?
00:22:22 - I'm getting there.
00:22:23 I got a little trampoline.
00:22:24 I got a little trampoline.
00:22:26 - That's what it looks like Wemby's doing.
00:22:29 Like when you used to hang the hoop on your door
00:22:32 and then like, you know, just go around
00:22:34 and just stand up dunk like Nerf balls.
00:22:36 Like that's basically how he plays.
00:22:38 - No, he's ridiculous.
00:22:39 And I talked to, remember Greg Stevesma?
00:22:42 - Of course.
00:22:42 You mean the white Bill Russell or whatever Tommy called him?
00:22:47 - Tommy will never, that's never gonna,
00:22:50 that's part of the Tommy Heinsohn hyperbole.
00:22:55 - Hyperbole hall of fame, no question about it.
00:22:57 - Exactly.
00:22:58 - You know, but Greg is a player development with the Spurs.
00:23:00 And I talked to him before the game and he said,
00:23:02 it's weird being the not tallest guy in the room.
00:23:07 'Cause Greg's like legitimate 6'10", 6'11".
00:23:10 He's always been that guy.
00:23:11 And he's like, Wemby is like, not only is he tall,
00:23:14 he said, but he's long.
00:23:16 That's the thing people don't realize.
00:23:17 He's not just seven foot four.
00:23:18 He's seven foot four with ridiculous length.
00:23:21 - Oh no, wow.
00:23:22 - And just, I mean, Wemby, I mean,
00:23:26 he's just really, really impressive to watch him
00:23:28 go to work up close.
00:23:29 And again, he doesn't know how to really play the game
00:23:33 from a mental standpoint at this level yet,
00:23:35 'cause everything is new to him.
00:23:36 He's just going by sheer talent and he's like,
00:23:39 he's that damn good.
00:23:41 And I really don't want Bobby to come in here
00:23:42 talking about Luke.
00:23:44 Luke was an easy pass for pretty much everyone
00:23:49 that San Antonio had in the first like four or five minutes.
00:23:53 Wemby wasn't the only one that was giving Luke the business
00:23:56 and in fact, the only reason that San Antonio
00:23:59 I thought cooled off was because they went exclusively
00:24:01 to Wemby and it didn't go to the mismatch,
00:24:03 which was whoever Cornette was guarding.
00:24:04 So this was not the night to,
00:24:06 this was not the night to pop your collar about Luke Cornette
00:24:10 I hope Bobby doesn't come with doing that.
00:24:11 - Oh, he already is texting some stuff,
00:24:13 comparing the two.
00:24:14 - Oh yeah, we did compare stat lines.
00:24:16 It was between steals and blocks.
00:24:19 And I will say this, Cornette had four steals
00:24:23 and three blocks and Wemby had no steals and one block.
00:24:28 So Cornette was a much bigger presence.
00:24:33 - Did flush one on Cornette's head though.
00:24:37 There's gotta be extra points for that.
00:24:39 We'll have the Tangway button ready.
00:24:43 - So yeah, like what's funny is like,
00:24:46 you're looking at it now and you're wondering,
00:24:47 is he ever gonna be able to like dominate games?
00:24:50 And then you can also look at it a different way and say,
00:24:55 my God, is he going to dominate games in such a way
00:24:59 that like, it's gonna be like tush push.
00:25:01 Like they're gonna start making like anti-Wemby rules.
00:25:04 - That's what I'm worried about.
00:25:05 - Of like things that they're not,
00:25:07 like they won't do because it's going to be
00:25:09 such a cheat code that it's gonna almost like,
00:25:12 I can almost see a point where he's so good
00:25:15 that he starts to get bored and then just decides
00:25:17 he's only shooting from 40 feet or something.
00:25:19 Like I think when he figures it all out,
00:25:21 he's gonna be able to score with such ease
00:25:23 from so many places that it is gonna start to feel stupid.
00:25:27 Because I mean, everyone jokes about Tatum being 6'10
00:25:31 and shoot over people and he's not, he's 6'8,
00:25:34 but it doesn't matter.
00:25:35 Like he can still go up and over most of the people
00:25:38 he's guarding because he's long
00:25:39 and you know, he's got that high release.
00:25:42 Imagine when Wemby can just knock those things down.
00:25:45 It doesn't, you could have,
00:25:48 it doesn't matter who guards him.
00:25:49 He'll be able to score at any time from any place.
00:25:53 It's going to be ridiculous.
00:25:55 - I think this--
00:25:56 - And the intelligence and the vision.
00:25:58 He's a terrific passer.
00:25:59 He's a good ball handler.
00:26:00 He can do so many things.
00:26:01 So like it might get so dumb that it's actually gonna get,
00:26:05 he could get boring to watch.
00:26:07 - I think that the scary part about him--
00:26:10 - Tatum is not 6'10.
00:26:11 I have to dispel this once and for all.
00:26:13 Brad joked about it one off season
00:26:16 and every Celtics freakazoid, like fan boy ran with it.
00:26:21 And then Brad even said afterwards, like,
00:26:22 "No, I was just messing around how he's kind of tall
00:26:25 and you know, who knows."
00:26:26 He's not, he was never 6'10.
00:26:28 Brad admitted he just said it for the F of it
00:26:31 and everybody ran with it forever.
00:26:33 Anyway, move on.
00:26:34 - No, the thing about Wemby that I think is really
00:26:37 gonna scare the crap out of teams in the future
00:26:39 is when his body starts to fill out.
00:26:41 'Cause just by simply being an NBA player,
00:26:44 he's going to get bigger.
00:26:45 He's going to get stronger.
00:26:46 And right now he's not that difficult to get off the block.
00:26:50 Like when he tried to post up Kata a couple of times,
00:26:52 Kata did not have too much trouble getting past him.
00:26:56 In fact, you know, at the other end offensively,
00:26:58 Kata just gave him a nice little elbow shoulder
00:27:02 and knocked his ass down and dumped on him.
00:27:04 That's not gonna, you enjoy that now
00:27:06 because that's not gonna be what's going to be happening
00:27:09 in the near future.
00:27:09 He's, I, a player that young,
00:27:15 different kind of style,
00:27:16 but definitely when you look at the impact that he's made,
00:27:19 it's very LeBron like,
00:27:20 where you look at him and just figure he's just a physical
00:27:23 freak compared to anyone and everyone else.
00:27:25 And it's just a matter of time before he becomes
00:27:28 the dominant type.
00:27:28 - Is there a drum line in there, Sherrod?
00:27:30 What's going on?
00:27:31 - Someone's grabbing drinks.
00:27:33 - Someone dropped all the cups.
00:27:34 - Is what it is.
00:27:38 (laughing)
00:27:40 - Yeah, I'm gonna go.
00:27:42 - Is someone grabbing all the drinks or just one drink?
00:27:47 - Double fisting, John, double fisting.
00:27:50 - Holy wow.
00:27:51 - You get free drinks over there.
00:27:52 - No ice, disable the ice machine, okay?
00:27:55 - Little concerned about that, John.
00:27:58 I mean, you got, like you said,
00:28:00 if you're just gonna be able to drop the ball in the hoop,
00:28:03 you know, for the next 15 years, that's not much fun, is it?
00:28:06 But it's never happened before.
00:28:08 Something's gonna, I'm not expecting that.
00:28:10 - He's gonna be like the, I find Giannis boring,
00:28:13 you know, kind of club.
00:28:14 Anyway, real quick shout out to our sponsor.

00:29:31 What do we think?
00:29:33 Where were we?
00:29:33 Were we still on the Wemby train?
00:29:35 - Kinda, yeah.
00:29:37 - Kinda, yeah.
00:29:38 - I think I kinda agree with what you'd said
00:29:42 or how it's just like,
00:29:43 is he gonna get too good for the game?
00:29:47 Like the way the game was designed,
00:29:48 like when this game was designed,
00:29:50 nobody was anticipating seven foot six dudes
00:29:55 like just roaming the earth
00:29:57 and just doing this type of stuff
00:29:58 on the basketball court, I don't think.
00:30:00 So we'll see if they have to make any changes,
00:30:03 but I don't think so.
00:30:04 I think teams are gonna have to just get creative.
00:30:07 They're gonna have to figure out ways to defend him.
00:30:09 They're gonna have to weigh some extra fouls,
00:30:11 play him tough, and I don't know,
00:30:16 get him out of position the best they can.
00:30:17 - And he's gonna have to expand his game.
00:30:19 I mean, he's gonna have to start learning how to,
00:30:20 because that's, when you think about
00:30:22 how physically impressive LeBron was
00:30:24 when he first came to the league,
00:30:26 had he stayed where he was the first three or four years
00:30:28 and didn't evolve and add to his bag,
00:30:31 he wouldn't be the first ballot hall of famer that he became.
00:30:35 He'd be a very good player,
00:30:36 but he wouldn't be that great heading shoulders above most,
00:30:39 if not all players in the league.
00:30:41 Wimby is going to be able to do that
00:30:43 if he continues to add things to his game.
00:30:46 He's pretty damn impressive now,
00:30:48 but again, he's gotta get bigger.
00:30:49 He's gotta get stronger.
00:30:50 He has to learn how to play more physical.
00:30:52 And to John's point earlier,
00:30:53 he's gotta become a more consistent perimeter shooter,
00:30:55 'cause that's the part of his game
00:30:56 that really sets him apart from lots of guys.
00:30:59 - I could see him someday going to like
00:31:04 two seconds in the paint instead of three.
00:31:07 Keep the game more fluid,
00:31:08 get the big dudes out of the paint,
00:31:11 kind of prevent them from using their size.
00:31:14 - There aren't that many that want to do that though, Jimmy.
00:31:16 So I don't know if that's ever gonna happen
00:31:18 'cause most of the bigs now-
00:31:18 - I know, but Wimby might-
00:31:20 - They shoot.
00:31:20 - Well, that's, if he's,
00:31:23 listen, if he's gonna shoot, I'm fine with that.
00:31:25 I just don't want a guy who's gonna stand at the rim
00:31:26 and just drop it in all game.
00:31:28 - He's not gonna be able to do that
00:31:29 because I don't think he has the core strength to do that.
00:31:32 - He's not gonna do that.
00:31:33 - Yeah, and for him, he's in front of the analytics era
00:31:37 where three is more than two.
00:31:39 If I make a couple of threes, that's like three post-offs.
00:31:42 - He's shooting 30%, so I'm not too concerned about-
00:31:44 - But the shot looks smooth, that thing's coming up.
00:31:47 And then the ability, if he ever gets a middie going,
00:31:50 and again, just think about it,
00:31:51 like you ever play on short hoops,
00:31:53 it's much easier to knock down shots from everywhere,
00:31:56 you know, like especially closer,
00:31:57 'cause you're just basically shooting like right at it.
00:32:00 So like, he's gonna be able to,
00:32:02 like those are gonna feel like layups to him
00:32:04 when he's shooting from eight, you know, six, eight, 10 feet.
00:32:07 - It's not a layup, I see your point.
00:32:08 - Just going up over people,
00:32:09 I think it's just gonna be silly.
00:32:11 - Double team, play physical.
00:32:14 I mean, they gotta figure out ways
00:32:15 to deny him the ball.
00:32:17 I mean, he's not, it's gonna be difficult.
00:32:21 - It is. - Don't get me wrong.
00:32:22 - Because, yeah. - But it's not gonna be impossible.
00:32:24 - No, it won't, 'cause the thing about him,
00:32:26 I mean, Jimmy, when he puts the ball on the floor,
00:32:27 he gets to like, top of the key, free throw line,
00:32:30 two steps and he's got a dunk.
00:32:31 - 20, 10 in 28 minutes a night.
00:32:34 And he's not even, he doesn't even know what he's doing,
00:32:36 as Sherrod said.
00:32:37 It could, it really, really, really, really,
00:32:41 but this is getting, now this is just turning into legend.
00:32:46 What do I have for clips here?
00:32:51 We're gonna play something.
00:32:52 What do we want from Joe?
00:32:52 - No, he said he's cutting it.
00:32:54 - All right, first I'm gonna play Joe.
00:32:56 All right, Joe, here's Joe talking about something.
00:32:58 Halfway mark. - Joey.
00:33:00 - Joe Mazzulla talking about assessing this something
00:33:02 to the halfway mark.
00:33:03 I can't wait.
00:33:04 - Jimmy. - I didn't really have
00:33:06 so much of an expectation or a goal
00:33:08 to be a certain type of thing.
00:33:10 What I will say is we just have to,
00:33:12 we have to stay in the space of we're really good,
00:33:14 but we could lose any game
00:33:16 and we gotta be really hard on ourselves.
00:33:18 And so it's annoying to be super critical of yourself,
00:33:22 but we gotta do that.
00:33:23 Just hold each other accountable.
00:33:25 Doesn't mean that there won't be tough times.
00:33:28 We have 41 games left.
00:33:29 We got a ton of tough games coming up.
00:33:30 So I don't expect it to go our way in these next 41,
00:33:34 but I do expect us to just stay the course.
00:33:36 And as long as we keep an open mind to getting better.
00:33:39 - Okay. - Yeah.
00:33:42 - Well, great.
00:33:45 Way to go.
00:33:46 - I mean, this is who they are.
00:33:47 I mean, that's trying to find that balance
00:33:51 between acknowledging that you're a really good team,
00:33:53 but trying to keep guys trying to get better.
00:33:56 That's easier said than done.
00:33:58 'Cause as they continue to put more and more separation
00:34:01 between them and the next best team in the East,
00:34:05 complacency has a way of creeping in.
00:34:07 When they get too comfortable, they become very laid back.
00:34:11 They become like that team we saw way too often last year.
00:34:15 That to me is a concern at this point.
00:34:17 It's just getting too comfortable with your status
00:34:20 at the front of the pack.
00:34:21 - Yeah.
00:34:23 Was Josue at the game tonight?
00:34:26 - Did not see him.
00:34:27 - Okay.
00:34:28 But Bobby's in there.
00:34:29 - What'd you think of that Joe challenge?
00:34:33 You're up like 20 points challenging the jump ball.
00:34:36 - Love it.
00:34:36 - Do you? - Love it.
00:34:37 I do.
00:34:38 I do.
00:34:39 I just love that.
00:34:40 Joe is doing so good.
00:34:41 - I wanna know what Pop thinks of it.
00:34:42 We should have gone to talk to Pop.
00:34:44 - Yeah.
00:34:45 - I don't know if Pop would have responded
00:34:49 to the question about that.
00:34:50 He's got so many more bigger issues to worry about.
00:34:54 His team's horrible.
00:34:56 - Does Joe have any friends?
00:34:57 - Joe Mazzuola?
00:34:59 - Yeah.
00:35:00 Among the coaching fraternity. - I hope so.
00:35:02 I hope so.
00:35:03 - Among the coaches?
00:35:04 I don't know.
00:35:05 - I would imagine so.
00:35:06 - Bobby.
00:35:07 Bobby's his friend.
00:35:09 He's commented on Bobby's tie.
00:35:10 They're friends.
00:35:11 - No, but when you think about guys like Will Hardy,
00:35:13 for example, in Utah, who he coached with that,
00:35:15 that's someone that he'd consider obviously a friend.
00:35:17 There's some other former Celtics assistants
00:35:21 who have kind of meandered about
00:35:23 that would qualify as well.
00:35:26 But does he have like a ton of them?
00:35:28 No, because he doesn't-
00:35:29 - No, but I mean, this stuff,
00:35:30 the Chicago Bulls blow out.
00:35:32 Like he's definitely,
00:35:33 he's had a couple of challenges up big or down.
00:35:36 Like, do people like that?
00:35:38 I don't give a crap.
00:35:39 I'm with you, Sherrod.
00:35:40 I actually don't care.
00:35:41 But when I see it, I'm like, "Ooh."
00:35:43 I was like, "People might not like that, buddy."
00:35:46 - I would imagine that doesn't make nice
00:35:49 with people who don't know you.
00:35:52 But the thing I like about Joe
00:35:53 is he does not give a F about that.
00:35:56 He's going to do it.
00:35:58 And you ask him about it, he'll let you know.
00:36:01 I thought that was the wrong call.
00:36:03 I challenged it.
00:36:05 That's what I do.
00:36:07 He's becoming very-
00:36:08 - I must challenge the call was wrong.
00:36:10 (laughing)
00:36:12 - But- - That's not right.
00:36:14 - Not challenging, does not compute.
00:36:16 - I'm loving the fact that Joe,
00:36:19 he just has a, I just don't give a damn
00:36:21 what you think about me doing this about him.
00:36:24 I like that a lot.
00:36:27 I love the fact that he emptied the bench
00:36:29 in five minutes of play.
00:36:30 Just say, "You know what, Pops?
00:36:32 I know you're a Hall of Famer, but your team is trash.
00:36:34 And I'm going to put my end of the bench guys out here
00:36:36 five minutes of the game,
00:36:37 and we're still going to beat the shit out of you."
00:36:39 - Yep.
00:36:40 - And he did.
00:36:41 - Ben Vallis, first to the floor.
00:36:44 The ever knowledgeable Ben Vallis,
00:36:46 first to the floor podcast.
00:36:47 You can check it out after the game.
00:36:49 He'll be Joe's friend.
00:36:50 - Why not? - He wants to be Joe's friend.
00:36:51 - He'll be Joe's friend.
00:36:52 Long distance relationship, Ben, these never work out.
00:36:56 Okay? - Yeah.
00:36:57 - All the way out there, all the way in Australia.
00:36:59 That's going to be tough for you guys, but.
00:37:01 - Friendships can, you know,
00:37:02 you get the good text going. - Yeah, you know,
00:37:03 I'm a little worried.
00:37:05 - Relationships, yeah, that could be a little difficult.
00:37:08 I guess we're not entirely sure.
00:37:09 - It could be tough.
00:37:10 - What Ben's asking for.
00:37:12 Sherrod, I got a question for you.
00:37:13 - Yo, Scott.
00:37:14 - I was watching, I always watch KG and Pierce.
00:37:19 They have an awesome podcast.
00:37:22 - This is stairwell.
00:37:23 - Whatever you want to call it, but yeah,
00:37:25 if you're a fan of the Celtics from, you know,
00:37:28 that era, the KG Pierce era,
00:37:31 those guys have a great back and forth going on.
00:37:33 And one of the clips I saw today was them talking about
00:37:35 how they're noticing this year's Celtics team,
00:37:39 right now, has more of a killer instinct to them.
00:37:44 They're kind of noticing a toughness,
00:37:46 like in Tatum and Brown, they mentioned,
00:37:48 but you know, I think just having some of the other guys
00:37:52 out there holiday.
00:37:53 Are you noticing something like that too,
00:37:55 compared to maybe past seasons with the Celtics team?
00:37:58 - Oh yeah, I mean, it's so obvious that this team
00:38:01 has more of a, what we like to call that dog, you know,
00:38:05 than these other teams of the past.
00:38:06 You know, I think I go back to the Minnesota game,
00:38:08 for example, that they played here,
00:38:10 a game that last year's team would have lost
00:38:13 nine out of 10 times.
00:38:14 There's little doubt in my mind that last year's team
00:38:18 would have lost that game.
00:38:19 And Tatum willed them a victory.
00:38:21 And again, he's not as consistent
00:38:23 as I know he would like to be,
00:38:24 and fans would like him to be in terms of that,
00:38:26 but there's a definite noticeable increase in him,
00:38:30 just frankly showing a little bit more of a killer,
00:38:33 basketball wise, than we've seen in the past.
00:38:36 And the thing that, you know, some folks have talked about,
00:38:39 and this is true, and Tatum kind of bristled at it,
00:38:41 but it's the truth, that has to come from the top
00:38:45 in order for it to seep into the team
00:38:48 and become part of the team's DNA.
00:38:50 When Tatum was just kind of, you know, hands up,
00:38:53 when a call didn't go his way and all that stuff,
00:38:55 you saw it go from him on down.
00:38:58 You started seeing, damn near everyone do that.
00:39:00 And now that you don't see that as much
00:39:02 as you see him making big shots
00:39:04 and recognizing mismatches that are his favorite,
00:39:07 or recognizing mismatches that his teammates have going on,
00:39:10 he's made a conscious effort to get the ball to them,
00:39:13 to make the right basketball play, as Joe would like to say.
00:39:16 And that in turn leads to your teammates looking to do that.
00:39:20 So it starts with him.
00:39:21 And I think he's finally embraced that and recognized
00:39:25 that's how you're going to win a championship.
00:39:26 It has to start with him.
00:39:28 And I think that's what KG and Paul are talking about.
00:39:31 You know, just the leadership recognizing
00:39:34 what they got to do to help this team be great.
00:39:36 - So that's the thing.
00:39:38 It's, I agree 100% Charade,
00:39:40 but we said this from like day one of training camp
00:39:44 in the beginning of the season.
00:39:45 What's the number one takeaway?
00:39:46 What's everyone see?
00:39:48 And it's like, it's, they're a lot more serious,
00:39:52 meaning like it's a focused group.
00:39:55 And like, I think what's funny is like,
00:39:57 it has to be top down in terms of Tatum and Brown.
00:40:01 It has to filter down from them,
00:40:03 but it actually got to them through White,
00:40:08 Holiday, Porzingis, Horford.
00:40:12 The grownups are in the room.
00:40:14 And Tatum and Brown are kind of like,
00:40:17 oh, okay, okay, serious all the time.
00:40:21 I got it.
00:40:22 You know, like, okay, here we are.
00:40:24 And now they're doing it more.
00:40:25 So that's kind of it.
00:40:27 Like maybe they weren't ready to be the guys
00:40:29 who would set the tempo and the pace for everybody else
00:40:32 and say, follow me, get on my back boys,
00:40:34 and all of that stuff that everybody wanted them to do.
00:40:36 But these guys make it so it's easier for them to do it.
00:40:39 'Cause it's not the burden of leadership as much as it is.
00:40:42 Everyone around me is taking it seriously.
00:40:44 I'm the best player on the team.
00:40:46 I can't not at this point.
00:40:48 And I don't think they dragged them kicking and screaming.
00:40:51 I just think setting that foundation
00:40:53 changed their overall mentality
00:40:55 and kind of snapped them into focus
00:40:57 in ways that you just talked about,
00:40:59 which is how many games have they had this year
00:41:01 that they lose?
00:41:03 These chats are killing me guys.
00:41:04 How many games have we had this year
00:41:08 where we're like, they lose this last year,
00:41:10 they lose this last year, they lose this last year.
00:41:12 There's like six, seven, or eight.
00:41:14 They might not lose all of them,
00:41:16 but every one of them, you've seen them lose a game
00:41:18 like that before.
00:41:19 There's quite a few.
00:41:21 And so it's completely different this year.
00:41:24 The question is just simply going to be health
00:41:26 and whether or not they're gonna be able to hold up
00:41:28 against the longer, bigger, more athletic teams
00:41:33 in those seven game series who can really kind of get,
00:41:36 when they ratchet up the intensity,
00:41:38 how will the Celtics respond to it?
00:41:40 I'd say those are the only two things,
00:41:41 injuries or injuries, that's across the board.
00:41:43 Only other thing that worries me about the Celtics
00:41:45 is they're better at basketball
00:41:46 than everybody that they play.
00:41:48 But athletically, there are some teams
00:41:50 that are more athletic and might give them problems.
00:41:55 And that could be probably the only place
00:41:58 where I see them jamming up a little bit.
00:42:00 But otherwise, they're just good.
00:42:02 They fight through slumps from individual players.
00:42:06 They fight through slumps as a team.
00:42:08 You saw that demarcation line in the under 40%
00:42:11 from three point last year.
00:42:12 They've won several games this year
00:42:14 when they don't shoot the ball well.
00:42:16 So they can beat you a lot of different ways.
00:42:18 Last year, it felt like they could only beat you
00:42:20 when they shot more than 40% from three.
00:42:21 That's it.
00:42:22 That was it.
00:42:23 Two years ago, they beat you with defense.
00:42:24 Ah!
00:42:25 Something fell.
00:42:26 Two years ago, they beat you with defense.
00:42:27 Last year, they only beat you when the threes were falling.
00:42:29 This year, they beat you in a million different ways.
00:42:32 And I think Bobby said something.
00:42:33 There was like, this was like however many games,
00:42:36 they're just building 30 point leads.
00:42:38 They're just going out and croaking people too.
00:42:41 - Right, right.
00:42:42 And I think one of the big differences
00:42:46 within the locker room is just
00:42:49 they're embracing the fact that
00:42:52 everyone has a certain responsibility
00:42:55 and that doesn't necessarily equate to leadership.
00:42:58 Like they're past the whole leadership question and concerns.
00:43:02 It's all about responsibility.
00:43:03 What is your job?
00:43:04 What the hell do you have to do to help this team win?
00:43:07 Some nights, it's Drew Holiday being a lockdown defender.
00:43:10 Some nights, it's Drew Holiday giving 15 points.
00:43:13 Sometimes Tatum has to score 30.
00:43:14 Sometimes Tatum doesn't,
00:43:16 he only needs to give you 15 or 20,
00:43:18 but he needs to get you like 10, 12, 14 rebounds.
00:43:20 They're figuring out what their responsibility is
00:43:22 from night to night
00:43:24 and not worrying about anything other than their jobs.
00:43:28 What do I have to do to help this team win?
00:43:31 And then sometimes,
00:43:32 and obviously it changes from one game to the next,
00:43:34 but them understanding and embracing that reality
00:43:38 of who they have to be in order to be great,

00:54:04 - Bobby, you cannot be serious.
00:54:07 You can't be serious thinking that he-
00:54:10 - Did you expect this from him tonight?
00:54:12 This is a pleasantly surprising performance.
00:54:15 - From Wimby or Luke?
00:54:17 - From Luke.
00:54:18 - Luke scoring when Wimby wasn't around.
00:54:21 Yeah, I think he can do that.
00:54:24 I think he can do that.
00:54:25 Yes, he can score when Wimby's not around, Luke can score.
00:54:30 Against a team that does not have a true center.
00:54:32 They were playing Jeremy at center,
00:54:35 and Jeremy was, like I said,
00:54:37 Jeremy Sokhon was two for nine in his two buckets
00:54:40 or against Luke in the first quarter.
00:54:42 So, sorry.
00:54:45 - This is your third center.
00:54:47 This is pretty good stuff out of a third center.
00:54:49 Where's the Tangway clip?
00:54:52 I'm trying to find it.
00:54:53 - No, we're not-
00:54:54 - No.
00:54:55 - Bobby, Bobby, I gotta tell you something,
00:54:57 'cause I'm gonna give you a heads up.
00:54:59 I'm not gonna hit you with it.
00:55:00 The chat got really into you.
00:55:04 - Deep dive.
00:55:05 - Deep dive into you and the basketball clips
00:55:09 on your YouTube channel.
00:55:10 - Yeah, no, that's something that goes way back.
00:55:13 That was a tough game for me.
00:55:15 But again, that was eight years ago.
00:55:17 So I've come a long way since then.
00:55:19 - Okay.
00:55:20 - Let's see.
00:55:22 - Can we play it?
00:55:23 - If you want.
00:55:25 - Only if you want.
00:55:26 - Let's see how far he's come.
00:55:28 I'm gonna clip it.
00:55:29 - I think I'm gonna clip it.
00:55:31 - Now I don't really know what to expect from JK.
00:55:34 I mean, I know he likes to talk a big game.
00:55:37 I know a lot of people on Twitter gave me their scouting
00:55:39 reports, but I gotta get a nice feel for him.
00:55:42 I don't think he's ready for me.
00:55:45 You know, I take a lot of pride in my pick up game.
00:55:47 They say I'm a mix of Tyler Zeller and Brandon Bass,
00:55:51 somewhere in between there.
00:55:53 So you know I'm really gonna be bringing it
00:55:55 on the offensive boards.
00:55:56 He better box me on real good.
00:55:59 A lot of people pick this guy,
00:56:00 but I don't think they know what to expect.
00:56:02 We'll see.
00:56:03 - Sideburns!
00:56:06 - No, he does not have the headband on.
00:56:09 - Oh look at that, getting into the body.
00:56:23 - Okay.
00:56:26 - Oh boy.
00:56:26 - Good board, shades of Luke right there.
00:56:36 - Bobby.
00:56:40 - Oh boy.
00:56:41 - Fade away, fade away.
00:56:43 - Back to the basket game.
00:56:44 Oh, I think he's gonna hook.
00:56:46 Oh wait, he's tripled.
00:56:48 - In way.
00:56:54 - Okay.
00:56:55 - Two to three.
00:56:58 - Oh, oh.
00:57:00 - Okay.
00:57:01 - Okay.
00:57:03 - What happened?
00:57:04 - That was the end of the clip.
00:57:07 - Just broke the internet.
00:57:08 - We'll leave it there.
00:57:09 - We'll leave it at that.
00:57:10 - It ended on a high note.
00:57:13 - Just to be accurate, 'cause I am a reporter,
00:57:16 it didn't go well from there.
00:57:18 But again.
00:57:19 (laughing)
00:57:20 - That way the video stopped.
00:57:22 - Yeah.
00:57:23 It did finish 21 to four in favor of Jay,
00:57:25 who of course was a Division III college basketball player.
00:57:30 So I'll give myself some slack there.
00:57:34 And eight years ago, Jimmy, I've come a long way.
00:57:36 - I wonder how you two would fare at a rematch.
00:57:38 That's what I wanna see, a rematch.
00:57:41 - I think it'd be good.
00:57:41 Maybe we could get some money for charity or something.
00:57:44 - I love it.
00:57:45 - Okay.
00:57:46 - We'll see where Jay's game's gone in eight years.
00:57:49 - That's exactly what I'm saying.
00:57:52 Let's see who's still got it.
00:57:55 - Are you kidding?
00:57:56 - Bobby's in the gym.
00:57:58 - Bobby's only 19, okay?
00:58:02 He's in his athletic prime.
00:58:04 - Now I'm 25.
00:58:05 - I know, that's the joke.
00:58:06 - It's a whole different game.
00:58:08 - I'm gonna put, I would bet that score would be
00:58:11 at least two to three times closer if not Bobby.
00:58:14 - How did you even know Jay eight years ago?
00:58:15 How did that even happen?
00:58:16 - Some trash talk on Twitter.
00:58:20 And we said, let's just get out there.
00:58:21 Let's film it.
00:58:23 My friend Brandon filmed it.
00:58:24 Shout out to him.
00:58:25 - He humbled you?
00:58:26 He humbled you?
00:58:27 - Yeah, it was tough.
00:58:28 You know what it was?
00:58:29 I defended decently and I had a little more stanima
00:58:32 out there, but I couldn't make a shot.
00:58:35 And my shooting was so bad back then.
00:58:36 So I just kept, one-on-one was tough.
00:58:38 - How would you say your ball handling is now?
00:58:43 Or like dribbling?
00:58:44 - Much better, much better.
00:58:46 That's still not a strength of mine though.
00:58:47 - Jimmy's like trolling you with that.
00:58:49 - Jimmy, this is a guy who took 27 shots
00:58:51 in a rec league game.
00:58:52 He obviously is comfortable letting it fly.
00:58:55 - That's true.
00:58:56 We have the infamous box score from this summer.
00:58:58 - That was a good game for me.
00:59:00 I'm also, I haven't played since November
00:59:02 dealing with some knee pain,
00:59:04 but I'll have to get back out there soon.
00:59:06 - Nothing but respect for Bobby here.
00:59:07 Let's jump ahead.
00:59:09 - You did better in Miami of Cousy,
00:59:10 the way he was kind of in the one hand
00:59:11 behind the back of the ball.
00:59:13 (laughing)
00:59:14 - Let's jump ahead.
00:59:15 The Celtics do take on the Nuggets.
00:59:18 Bobby, this is a, you know, a lot of people's team,
00:59:21 but at the beginning of the year,
00:59:25 before the Celtics made their final trades,
00:59:27 it was still kind of like, I don't know,
00:59:29 are they good enough for Denver?
00:59:31 Then they swung that last trade and beat Holiday
00:59:35 and you were still a little dubious.
00:59:37 After watching both teams,
00:59:39 after watching both teams for half a season now,
00:59:43 like you think the Nuggets are still warming up
00:59:46 and there's a couple other gears there, you know,
00:59:49 and like, if you just had to assess
00:59:52 these two teams right now, who's the favorite?
00:59:55 If you still think the Nuggets or the team
00:59:56 is possibly gonna come out of the West,
00:59:58 even though I know Minnesota and OKC
01:00:00 are technically have better records right now,
01:00:02 but you know, I still think Denver's coming.
01:00:04 Where do you put them right now?
01:00:06 - I think they deserve to have that favorite status
01:00:10 coming off what they did last year.
01:00:12 I mean, it's ridiculous,
01:00:14 especially what Jokic is doing right now.
01:00:15 And you can give Tatum a lot of credit
01:00:17 for his strides this year,
01:00:18 but Jokic beyond the ridiculous production
01:00:21 in every area each night.
01:00:23 And the clutch is just prone to,
01:00:25 as he did a couple of weeks ago against Golden State,
01:00:27 toss up a shot from half court and just bank it in.
01:00:30 Like the guy's just ridiculous.
01:00:32 He's, you know, and I love Giannis, I love Embiid,
01:00:34 I love some of these other guys
01:00:35 and I know Embiid beat him the other night,
01:00:38 but Jokic is the best player in the league by far right now.
01:00:41 And that's gonna be challenging.
01:00:43 Celtics are at home, they should be at full strength.
01:00:45 So it's gonna be a significant advantage for them.
01:00:47 They probably have the better all around team.
01:00:49 So I'm just about there,
01:00:53 especially if they win this game, Jimmy,
01:00:55 to saying that if the Celtics are at full strength,
01:00:58 they're gonna win the championship this year.
01:01:00 But I'm not gonna pull everything from this game.
01:01:04 You know, you wanna see them out in Denver.
01:01:06 You wanna eventually see them in the finals
01:01:08 and just see how that goes.
01:01:09 'Cause usually the best player in a series wins that series.
01:01:14 So it's gonna be a challenge, especially since I feel like
01:01:17 they're really gonna stress the Celtics defense, John.
01:01:20 We've seen how it's gone this year.
01:01:22 They've put Holiday on centers.
01:01:24 They've put Porzingis on a weaker offensive player.
01:01:27 But I don't know how Drew's gonna fare against Jokic.
01:01:30 And I don't know where you not hide Porzingis,
01:01:33 but you're not gonna be able to play off anyone
01:01:35 in that starting lineup, KCP, Gordon,
01:01:37 probably the two main candidates.
01:01:39 I'm very interested to see how these two teams
01:01:41 scheme against each other.
01:01:42 'Cause obviously Porzingis is gonna be a load
01:01:45 for Jokic to cover too.
01:01:46 - Yeah, but everybody is.
01:01:48 That's the whole thing.
01:01:49 It's like, I never really get super concerned with that.
01:01:51 Like who's gonna stop Embiid?
01:01:54 Nobody, nobody on the planet.
01:01:55 Nobody stops Embiid.
01:01:56 You know, like Jokic is one of one.
01:01:58 Like, I just don't think you've got guys.
01:02:01 You're just, what you do have with the Celtics
01:02:03 is a lot of bodies, you know?
01:02:05 And you, honestly, you're gonna see Holiday on Jokic.
01:02:08 You know, I think-
01:02:09 - I think that's how they'll start.
01:02:11 I think that's how they'll start.
01:02:12 And I think that's kind of, you know,
01:02:15 what you're gonna get there.
01:02:15 Sure, you miss-
01:02:16 - Would you consider starting Horford?
01:02:18 - No, no, stop, never.
01:02:20 Just no, it's like I said,
01:02:22 and not because, it's not a disrespectful way.
01:02:25 The Celtics are good enough to make teams play,
01:02:28 have to worry about them.
01:02:29 They do not need to, bad, inferior teams adjust
01:02:34 because they can't handle what good teams throw at them.
01:02:36 Good teams just play and make,
01:02:38 and just play you straight up.
01:02:40 Obviously, you're gonna do some things
01:02:41 and throw in some wrinkles,
01:02:42 and your bench personnel and your rotations
01:02:45 might be a little bit different,
01:02:46 and there's certain lineups
01:02:47 where you're gonna try to favor double big
01:02:49 a little bit more,
01:02:50 and there's certain where you're just not gonna do it.
01:02:52 So yeah, that's gonna be the game planning,
01:02:54 but you got the best starting five in basketball.
01:02:56 You're just gonna play the best starting five
01:02:58 in basketball and make the Nuggets figure out
01:03:00 how they're gonna stop all of your guys,
01:03:02 which is a bigger problem than you stopping just one guy.
01:03:05 Not that the Nuggets don't have others,
01:03:06 but I'm just never in favor of doing that
01:03:08 unless it's like crappy teams,
01:03:10 Ivy League teams go zone against the big schools
01:03:13 where they know they can't play those guys,
01:03:15 or you try gimmicks or try tricks,
01:03:16 and the Celtics don't need to resort to anything.
01:03:18 They just play straight up
01:03:20 and just kind of let the chips fall.
01:03:25 - You might have to adjust mid-game then
01:03:26 if that holiday season doesn't work.
01:03:28 - Yeah, I mean, that's the name of the game.
01:03:29 - You do go that double big look.
01:03:31 What do you think, Jimmy?
01:03:33 - What do I think?
01:03:37 - He wasn't listening to anything.
01:03:38 - That's not dog.
01:03:40 - I was listening.
01:03:41 I was listening.
01:03:42 I don't know how they can defend Jokic.
01:03:45 - Nah, whatever.
01:03:45 - I agreed with holiday starting on him.
01:03:47 - Jimmy just played the YouTube back a few seconds.
01:03:51 What do you think?
01:03:52 - It's 1101 and Jimmy's officially getting sleepy.
01:03:54 - No, I was cruising the chat.
01:03:56 The chat's been horny.
01:03:57 - Come on, you got a whole Patriots segment here.
01:03:58 - That was a fax my dog.
01:04:01 - We haven't done Siakam or Mayo yet.
01:04:05 I'm willing to talk about those topics right now.
01:04:08 - Okay, so we'll get back to you.
01:04:10 Sherrod, how are you liking the Celtics-Nuggets
01:04:14 matchup tomorrow?
01:04:15 Friday rather, sorry.
01:04:18 - Yeah, Friday.
01:04:19 Celtics should win that.
01:04:20 They're at full strength.
01:04:21 They'll have all the competent players.
01:04:23 I prefer Al coming off the bench
01:04:25 just because I think in this particular matchup,
01:04:28 I think he's better suited to help the Celtics
01:04:30 in a reserve role.
01:04:33 And I'm curious, we talk about, you know,
01:04:35 Porzemis and just the challenges he might have,
01:04:37 but remember, they gotta defend him too.
01:04:40 And last I checked, they don't have too many guys
01:04:42 that have the DNA to necessarily defend
01:04:45 a seven foot two shooter who can also score in a post.
01:04:49 I think Gordon will probably get that first crack
01:04:52 at Porzemis and he's been a good defender.
01:04:55 I don't know about Gray.
01:04:57 And KCP has been, you know,
01:04:59 all NBA caliber defender this year.
01:05:02 So it'll be a good game, but I expect the Celtics to win.
01:05:06 - If they blow Denver, and again, it's just one game,
01:05:09 but if they blow Denver away the way
01:05:11 they have some of these teams, and they've now led,
01:05:12 I don't know if you threw this out there, John,
01:05:14 eight games over their last 17 here,
01:05:17 they've led by 30, including tonight.
01:05:19 - I was trying to remember it
01:05:20 'cause I know you sent it to us, but that's the stat, yes.
01:05:24 - Yeah, if they do something like that to Denver,
01:05:27 it's like, all right, you know, cancel Christmas.
01:05:29 All bets are off here.
01:05:30 This is the prohibitive NBA favorite here,
01:05:33 given some of the wins they've racked off,
01:05:35 like, you know, of course, Kawhi down,
01:05:37 that blowout win against the Clippers a couple of weeks ago.
01:05:40 So this is a big one.
01:05:43 I'm really looking forward to this one.
01:05:44 - I don't want to have to cancel Christmas, though.
01:05:46 I don't want to have to cancel Christmas
01:05:47 if they win that.
01:05:49 (laughing)
01:05:51 - Why is Christmas?
01:05:53 Who did Christmas go to the Denver Crest?
01:05:53 - I'm glad you caught that one.
01:05:56 - Backs my dog.
01:05:57 - The Nasus Manning makes the bracket.
01:06:00 - It makes the bracket.
01:06:01 It's gotta make the bracket.
01:06:03 (laughing)
01:06:05 - Bobby, I'll ask you this,
01:06:11 because there was a big trade
01:06:13 between Jimmy's guys and your guys, okay?
01:06:16 - Yeah, I think we got the better end of it, Bobby.
01:06:18 - Oh yeah, I didn't get to send out a tweet, Jimmy,
01:06:20 but we were talking the other night, John.
01:06:21 Jimmy asked, "I'm gonna stick with the Raptors now
01:06:24 after the Seattle trade."
01:06:26 And Bobby called the rebuild.
01:06:28 - So I'll ask you this,
01:06:30 talking about the Raptors and their prospects
01:06:32 after dumping one of their better players
01:06:34 is like spending time talking about Luke against Wembley.
01:06:39 - Hey, Luke's more important.
01:06:40 - Well, let's talk about the thing.
01:06:44 Have the Pacers joined with this trade,
01:06:49 joined the Bucs, Celtics, and Sixers
01:06:54 in the clear-cut top four?
01:06:57 I mean, crap, you can talk about Miami as well,
01:06:59 but if it felt like it was a three-horse race
01:07:01 with Miami always lurking because they're scary as shit
01:07:04 and they'll upset somebody,
01:07:06 but probably not make it to the finals,
01:07:08 but are the Pacers firmly in that top three group
01:07:12 or still on the outside looking in?
01:07:14 - I think they're top three.
01:07:15 I put them above the Sixers.
01:07:17 - Really? - What?
01:07:18 - Yeah, I do.
01:07:20 I said it.
01:07:21 - Didn't we just beat Denver?
01:07:22 They've beaten you.
01:07:23 - They've beaten all the top teams in the league.
01:07:24 - They've beaten you, Jimmy.
01:07:25 - They've beaten me, Bobby.
01:07:26 I'm right here.
01:07:27 No, listen.
01:07:28 - They kicked your ass, Jimmy.
01:07:30 - Philly's got the second highest point differential
01:07:33 to the Celtics, you know?
01:07:34 - Not a knock on Philly.
01:07:35 I think Philly's still very good,
01:07:36 but if I have to choose between the two,
01:07:38 I think Siakam's just what this Philly team needs.
01:07:41 - I think Philly's more serious than Milwaukee, honestly,
01:07:44 but that's just me.
01:07:45 - It's close, right?
01:07:47 - Fine, fine, okay.
01:07:48 Well, then they're the--
01:07:48 - But are they in the convo?
01:07:49 I think the Celtics are the--
01:07:50 - I mean, they smoked Milwaukee this year.
01:07:51 - I think the Celtics are the one, honestly.
01:07:53 I think the Celtics are the one, and I think after that,
01:07:55 I mean, clearly you can have a debate on two, three, four
01:07:58 here.
01:07:58 - Are they there?
01:07:59 Are they in that pack now, Bobby?
01:08:01 Jimmy says yes, Bobby?
01:08:02 - No, I gotta see the defense improve.
01:08:07 We've seen a lot of teams like this.
01:08:08 - How did they make that trade without trading
01:08:11 Matherin or any of their other guys there?
01:08:13 That's what blows my mind.
01:08:14 How did they--
01:08:15 - 'Cause I think they're gonna do the holiday
01:08:16 that Portland did.
01:08:17 They're gonna flip around for a couple more
01:08:19 first round picks and come out of it with four or five here.
01:08:21 They come out with three in this deal.
01:08:22 - No, but I don't know how the Pacers got away
01:08:24 without having to give Nebhardt or Matherin in this deal.
01:08:27 - One or two.
01:08:28 I'm sure they pushed for it.
01:08:30 - They put a couple picks.
01:08:31 They put a couple picks too.
01:08:32 - I'm just amazed they did it.
01:08:33 - Yeah, they went with three picks.
01:08:35 I think one of them's from another team.
01:08:37 So they've traded two of their own here.
01:08:39 Near term too, I think one of theirs is their pick
01:08:42 this year, which won't be amazing.
01:08:44 Probably lottery, but this is a really good fit
01:08:48 for Indiana.
01:08:49 I'm not sure it solves all their defensive issues.
01:08:51 Certainly adds some lines, certainly solidifies the four,
01:08:53 which has been a position of weakness for them.
01:08:56 And you keep the depth, as you mentioned there, John.
01:08:58 But I just gotta see, their defense is getting better.
01:09:01 In that Celtics mini series, I thought it was pretty solid.
01:09:03 They defend a weird way in terms of giving up the basket
01:09:07 and taking away the threes.
01:09:08 - Which is to not defend, right, exactly, right.
01:09:10 - So most teams do the opposite of that.
01:09:13 But I like this team a lot, Jimmy,
01:09:17 but we've seen a lot of teams over the years,
01:09:20 and you can throw out some examples, Sherrod.
01:09:22 I'm thinking of like the Goran Dragic Suns
01:09:25 and the Kings even last year.
01:09:28 Like some of these teams that have been
01:09:30 the highest scoring teams in the league in any given season
01:09:34 don't end up being big factors in the playoffs.
01:09:38 - You go back and look at those Dianne Nelson teams
01:09:40 in Dallas that were always up there and scoring.
01:09:42 And those Golden State teams, previous Steph Curry,
01:09:44 that were running up a billion points and losing by seven
01:09:47 almost every night.
01:09:50 You have to have some type of balance
01:09:52 between your ability to score
01:09:53 and your ability to at least contest shots.
01:09:56 And Indiana is getting better.
01:09:58 And I think Pascal only speeds that.
01:10:01 - Well, they're a tough matchup for the Celtics.
01:10:04 There's no doubt about it.
01:10:06 The Celtics have been able to win a lot of these games too.
01:10:09 - Yeah, but I think Pascal gives them a dimension
01:10:12 that is going to make them a lot better.
01:10:16 Like I see them as a top three,
01:10:18 maybe at worst top four team in each now.
01:10:21 They're either third or fourth.
01:10:23 I think I'm leaning more towards three.
01:10:26 - Okay.
01:10:27 - They play hard.
01:10:27 I mean, stats aside guys,
01:10:29 this Indy team shows that when,
01:10:32 like, I mean, look at what they did in the bubble.
01:10:34 They show up to big games.
01:10:36 They have, I think they have a good match of veterans
01:10:39 and young guys and especially Siakam being,
01:10:41 I mean, they just traded for this.
01:10:42 He's their second best player now, just like that.
01:10:44 So in my opinion, they're a completely different team.
01:10:47 So yeah, I put them right up there with Milwaukee and Philly
01:10:51 now in the seven game series.
01:10:53 I don't think anyone can say with certainty
01:10:56 which team would win that series right now.
01:10:58 I mean, we got to see how Siakam fits in and everything,
01:11:01 but they have half the year to get situated
01:11:04 and to get comfortable with adding a guy like that
01:11:06 to their roster.
01:11:07 I think he fits what they're doing perfectly.
01:11:09 I mean, he's the type of guy that's gonna,
01:11:11 you know, score from all over.
01:11:12 He's having a good season.
01:11:13 I mean, I think obviously his outside shot's off.
01:11:16 He's hovering around 30%,
01:11:18 which isn't anywhere where you want to be,
01:11:20 his three point shot.
01:11:21 But aside from that, I mean,
01:11:22 they just added a huge, huge piece.
01:11:24 I mean, before the trade, what are they?
01:11:27 What are they like six in the standings right now?
01:11:29 Something like that.
01:11:30 So it's a huge trade for them.
01:11:33 I think that they're-
01:11:34 - Yeah, this is their first year on the scene
01:11:36 essentially here.
01:11:37 And usually you make the playoffs that year
01:11:39 and lose round one.
01:11:41 So if they make it to round two,
01:11:42 which is probably where the Celtics would see them,
01:11:45 maybe push them a little bit.
01:11:47 But do any of us really think they can beat the Celtics?
01:11:49 - Do you want to see them or Miami in round two?
01:11:52 That, you know, like-
01:11:54 - You don't want to see-
01:11:55 - You're gonna see someone tough in round two.
01:11:56 - Yeah, I mean, yuck.
01:11:58 - There's no doubt about it.
01:11:59 - I don't think you ever want to see Miami.
01:12:01 - Miami, Philly.
01:12:02 - Somebody bad.
01:12:03 - New York.
01:12:04 - You don't want to see India.
01:12:06 - It's gonna be a good team.
01:12:07 Anyway.
01:12:08 - I would take New York.
01:12:09 I mean, if Celtics get New York,
01:12:11 that should be easy pickings.
01:12:13 - No, I actually feel the opposite.
01:12:14 I think New York plays you tougher than Indy does.
01:12:16 - No.
01:12:17 - Especially if Mitchell Robinson comes back.
01:12:19 I don't know if you guys saw it,
01:12:20 but the Knicks put in a disabled player exception on him.
01:12:24 And normally that's just like, all right, here you go.
01:12:26 But they said no,
01:12:27 which means the NBA was certain
01:12:30 that he's coming back this year.
01:12:31 - I don't think the Knicks have enough in the tank.
01:12:33 I really don't.
01:12:34 - Maybe not.
01:12:35 - They just had OG who might be the pace.
01:12:37 Put it this way,
01:12:38 the Pacers actually tried to trade for OG.
01:12:39 - They had to give up.
01:12:40 They had to give up guys to get him, Bobby.
01:12:43 - Yeah, I think they're better.
01:12:44 I think both those teams got better.
01:12:46 I think everything got tighter in the middle.
01:12:48 It went from a three team race to six teams,
01:12:50 I think right now,
01:12:51 when you're factoring in Miami with Butler back
01:12:53 that are tough.
01:12:54 The East is tough.
01:12:55 - Cleveland.
01:12:56 - East is tough.
01:12:57 - So how would you answer this question, John?
01:12:58 - I don't know where I have the Pacers.
01:12:59 All I'm saying is I'm not ready to write them off
01:13:02 just 'cause they weren't in the club to start the season.
01:13:05 I think it's very easy to default to the teams
01:13:07 that you're just used to saying,
01:13:08 like, this is the cream of the crop.
01:13:11 I absolutely think that Indiana could beat Milwaukee
01:13:15 and or Philly in a seven game series
01:13:17 would not shock me at all.
01:13:18 Like at all.
01:13:19 I still think the Celtics are able to handle them
01:13:22 and figure them out,
01:13:23 but they would give them-
01:13:25 - It'd be challenging.
01:13:26 - If they give them fits and there'd be a couple of games
01:13:28 where the Pacers just shoot the frigging lights out
01:13:30 and the Celtics are cold and it's just gonna be like,
01:13:32 nope, not our night tonight.
01:13:33 But I absolutely think they can beat every team in the East
01:13:38 in a seven game series.
01:13:39 So nothing would surprise me.
01:13:40 I do not think it's not their time yet
01:13:42 just 'cause they haven't been there yet.
01:13:43 It's a really good team.
01:13:45 - I'll tell you about it like this.
01:13:46 - It is.
01:13:46 - If it's between Cavs, Heat and Pacers in the first round,
01:13:50 if the Pacers are playing you,
01:13:52 the Cavs or the Heat in the first round,
01:13:53 who are you gonna take in that series?
01:13:55 'Cause that's your four, five, six team seeds right now.
01:13:58 I'm taking the Pacers over those two teams.
01:14:00 And now all of a sudden,
01:14:01 you've got Celtics versus Pacers in round two, Bobby.
01:14:03 So that's a very realistic possibility
01:14:06 is that you see the Pacers in the second round.
01:14:07 I can easily see them getting out
01:14:09 of the first round this year as a four or five seed.
01:14:12 - Yep.
01:14:13 - I think they'll get out of the first round.
01:14:14 - And a good coach.
01:14:15 They got a lot of things going for them.
01:14:18 I like them a lot.
01:14:19 We're past the hour mark.
01:14:21 I did tell Jimmy he can have his Gerard Mayo moment.
01:14:25 - Well, I have a little combo, yeah.
01:14:27 - You have your Gerard Mayo moment.
01:14:28 Bobby Manning has a job to do
01:14:30 and it does not involve the Pacers.
01:14:31 And if he wants to recuse himself here,
01:14:33 I'm not gonna say he's gotta stick around.
01:14:36 And if I can get a graphic here,
01:14:37 we're gonna talk to Mayo for a split second
01:14:38 if you're still in the room.
01:14:40 Go ahead, Jimmy.
01:14:42 - Well, I mean, whoa.
01:14:45 Is Bobby gonna hang around for this?
01:14:47 - I don't know.
01:14:48 Maybe if you say something provocative.
01:14:49 - Well, listen, I mean.
01:14:51 - Yeah, listen.
01:14:51 - Well.
01:14:52 (laughing)
01:14:53 - Text my dog.
01:14:54 Text my dog.
01:14:55 - As everybody knows, it was Mayo's intro.
01:14:56 Press conference today.
01:14:57 I thought it's the beginning of a new era
01:15:00 here in New England.
01:15:01 I thought it was refreshing.
01:15:04 I don't think it was anything that we,
01:15:07 I don't think he said a whole lot
01:15:08 that really blew anybody's minds.
01:15:09 Obviously, we're very far away from the team.
01:15:13 Front office getting put together
01:15:14 and the coaching staff getting put together.
01:15:16 There's a lot of unknowns.
01:15:18 But I think if you are unfamiliar with Mayo,
01:15:22 I think one of the things that you should know today
01:15:24 is that he's got a lot of leadership qualities.
01:15:27 Smart guy, knows how to lead a locker room,
01:15:30 has been the leader as a player for many, many years.
01:15:34 Captain, wore the dot.
01:15:36 Obviously understands, great understanding for defense.
01:15:39 And I think obviously being,
01:15:41 there's a clip of Brady calling him
01:15:44 Gerard Belichick from years ago.
01:15:47 I think there's a lot of things
01:15:48 that Mayo has taken from Belichick over the years
01:15:50 that he's gonna carry over with him.
01:15:52 The good things.
01:15:53 Now, the things he's not gonna take with him
01:15:55 is I think Belichick's inability to,
01:15:58 at this point in his life, relate to the younger players
01:16:01 and be able to maybe get through to guys
01:16:04 on more than just X's and O's.
01:16:06 Belichick, great coach, don't get me wrong, obviously.
01:16:08 But I think it's at the point now where he's,
01:16:11 there's a disconnect between him and a lot of players.
01:16:13 And I think a lot of younger generation players,
01:16:15 you can't coach the same way you could coach the,
01:16:18 you know, McGinnis, Bruschke, Ted Johnson, those era guys.
01:16:22 All the way up to the Mayos and the McCourty's.
01:16:24 There's a few guys in Slaters that you could coach that way,
01:16:27 but they're becoming few and far between now.
01:16:28 So I think Mayo understands that.
01:16:30 He has the bridge from sort of like the past
01:16:33 to the present here.
01:16:36 And I think there's a lot of respect
01:16:37 that he's gonna have in the locker room.
01:16:39 Now, the big concern issue moving forward is
01:16:43 who's gonna be in charge of player, I guess,
01:16:47 scouting and the draft coming up.
01:16:49 They have a few months to figure that out.
01:16:50 - And who's gonna find you a damn quarterback?
01:16:52 - Who's gonna find you a quarterback?
01:16:53 Who's going to put the offense together?
01:16:55 Because, you know, Mayo, you can say all you want about him,
01:16:59 but we have no idea until we see it
01:17:02 how it's gonna go in terms of his coaching abilities,
01:17:04 especially on the offensive end.
01:17:06 So I don't have as much concern
01:17:08 about the defensive side of the football,
01:17:09 but as an offensive, as a guy that's,
01:17:13 you know, in Mayo that's, you know,
01:17:14 never had anything to do with the offense,
01:17:16 other than watching film of it
01:17:17 and trying to figure out how to defend it,
01:17:19 he's gonna need to find a really strong staff
01:17:22 on the offensive side of things,
01:17:24 whether it's an offensive coordinator,
01:17:26 all the way down to quarterbacks, coach, tight end,
01:17:28 all the way down the line,
01:17:30 he's gonna have to have guys that are on their P's and Q's
01:17:32 because he's not going to, especially in his first year,
01:17:36 have a whole lot of knowledge on that side of the ball.
01:17:37 Now, they don't need to go out and win 10 games next year.
01:17:40 No one expects them to, but you wanna see progress.
01:17:42 And if you're gonna draft a quarterback,
01:17:45 which a lot of people think they might,
01:17:47 you better know what the hell you're doing.
01:17:48 You better put the quarterback in a good position.
01:17:51 I'm not saying he needs to start week one,
01:17:53 but you cannot put a quarterback room together.
01:17:55 And I thought this was the most damning thing
01:17:57 about Belichick this year.
01:17:59 One of the worst quarterback rooms
01:18:00 I've ever seen in my life, in the NFL, in the history.
01:18:04 Putting Mac and Zappy in the same room,
01:18:06 no veteran presence,
01:18:07 and put an offensive quarter in there
01:18:10 that wasn't allowed to take anybody with them,
01:18:12 and basically saying, throwing you guys to the wolves.
01:18:16 That can't happen moving forward.
01:18:17 - Could it be McDaniels?
01:18:19 - I don't know, that's a name
01:18:20 that people keep throwing out there
01:18:21 just because it's a name that everybody knows.
01:18:23 I'm not necessarily,
01:18:24 I don't know if that's the right thing.
01:18:26 I thought that when they got rid of Belichick,
01:18:28 everybody would be gone
01:18:29 and we wouldn't be talking about other Belichicks
01:18:33 and O'Brien and McDaniels
01:18:35 and these other front office names that keep popping up.
01:18:37 I thought it would be a clean house situation.
01:18:40 It's obviously not.
01:18:41 - Even Mayo?
01:18:42 - No, not, no, aside from Mayo.
01:18:44 I thought they'd keep Mayo,
01:18:45 and they'd let Mayo pick a couple guys,
01:18:47 maybe they'd obviously let him pick a staff,
01:18:49 but I didn't think that there'd be this many
01:18:53 familiar faces and names sticking around.
01:18:55 And I don't know if McDaniels, again,
01:18:57 I don't know what their options are gonna be
01:18:59 for OC, people aren't gonna be banging down the doors
01:19:01 to be offensive coordinator here.
01:19:03 I don't know what their options are.
01:19:04 Maybe they think that he's their best option.
01:19:07 I think McDaniels is,
01:19:08 I think he, I didn't like the way it went for him
01:19:12 in Las Vegas.
01:19:13 I would be very hesitant to just bring him on
01:19:16 after the way things went for him there.
01:19:18 So I'm not really on board with that,
01:19:19 but I don't have an answer on who they should have at OC.
01:19:21 (audio cuts out)
01:19:23 Does this team interview John
01:19:24 or is every other team in the NFL interview, but not them?
01:19:27 (laughs)
01:19:29 That's kind of where I'm at with the whole
01:19:30 Patriots situation right now.
01:19:32 But I will say this,
01:19:33 I'm inching my way back towards being with the Patriots.
01:19:37 - The healing process has begun for John.
01:19:39 - The healing process has begun.
01:19:40 It's been four years.
01:19:41 I've completely turned a blind eye to that.
01:19:44 I'm not fully back, I need to see some,
01:19:46 but I am on the Mayo train though.
01:19:48 I won't be back there. - Bobby, thoughts?
01:19:50 - I don't know what to think yet.
01:19:53 I mean, my big picture analysis here
01:19:57 is I want to see them sure up the offensive line
01:19:59 with the top pick.
01:20:00 I want to see them bring in a veteran quarterback.
01:20:02 There should not be a rookie.
01:20:03 - You want them to take an offensive line at three?
01:20:05 - Yes.
01:20:06 I think that's the best bet of hitting there, isn't it?
01:20:08 - So here's the thing.
01:20:09 - Apparently it's a deep O-line draft.
01:20:11 - And then you get a veteran quarterback.
01:20:12 - The best bet is to not draft a quarterback
01:20:15 because quarterbacks,
01:20:17 the third best quarterback taken in a draft,
01:20:19 the hit rate's going to be like 25%.
01:20:21 - Especially on a bad team
01:20:23 that doesn't have an offensive line.
01:20:25 - Your best bet is to take a non-quarterback that high
01:20:30 'cause the chances of those players hitting is very high.
01:20:33 But your need for a quarterback is so great
01:20:36 that it almost doesn't matter
01:20:37 if you hit a home run with your third pick
01:20:40 if you have no quarterback.
01:20:42 So if you're the Patriots, you have to take a swing.
01:20:45 - You have to?
01:20:47 - There's the rub.
01:20:48 - I don't know.
01:20:50 - Is you may not-
01:20:51 - That was the argument for taking Mack.
01:20:53 Just take a guy.
01:20:53 - He wasn't, but he was 15th
01:20:55 and he was the fifth quarterback taken.
01:20:57 Those guys don't hit.
01:20:58 So you took him because you had to.
01:21:02 But again, it's not the point is that you have to take,
01:21:06 you don't get up this high this often.
01:21:10 And if you don't take a shot,
01:21:11 your chances of finding your guy are very, very, very slim.
01:21:15 - But what if you get the best tackle in the league
01:21:18 out of this?
01:21:19 - It doesn't matter if you don't have a quarterback.
01:21:20 You're stuck.
01:21:21 - You're not going to get everybody in one year.
01:21:23 You have very few-
01:21:24 - But there are some good teams with okay quarterbacks
01:21:27 who have great lines.
01:21:28 - There are not.
01:21:29 - The Lions?
01:21:30 - The Lions are fine, but at the end of the day,
01:21:32 those teams and they're great in a lot of different places.
01:21:35 None of those teams are going to win.
01:21:36 - Gough was a high pick though, right?
01:21:37 - Yeah.
01:21:38 - And Gough was one of the, but-
01:21:40 - Gough was like a first rounder.
01:21:42 - And Gough was number one overall pick, but yes, he's fine.
01:21:45 You know, he was a reclamation process when he got to Detroit.
01:21:48 - What if they like Bo Nix and they said,
01:21:50 oh, we can wait on, but we can take Bo Nix.
01:21:52 - That's what I'm saying, Jimmy.
01:21:53 - Take a guy later.
01:21:54 - Yeah, I mean, again, it's very likely that you're going to,
01:21:57 the likelihood of hitting is very small,
01:22:01 very, very, very small late, very small.
01:22:04 So again, if you have three guys,
01:22:07 if you have a draft class where you have three guys
01:22:08 that many people are saying might've gone number one
01:22:10 in other years and really belong up there, fine.
01:22:13 When you're reaching for the 20th best player
01:22:15 at quarterback at number five or six,
01:22:17 that's where you end up getting,
01:22:18 but some people like Jadon Daniels
01:22:20 better than Caleb Williams.
01:22:21 If he's there at three and you need a quarterback,
01:22:23 you gotta take a quarterback, but.
01:22:24 - It'll be tough to pass up,
01:22:25 but then you just throw him into the fire.
01:22:27 - It doesn't matter, you gotta get a quarterback.
01:22:28 You gotta get a quarterback first, nothing else matters.
01:22:31 But I agree with you, Bobby,
01:22:32 O-line over receivers is the next thing.
01:22:36 - Receivers are a luxury.
01:22:37 - If you don't protect your quarterback,
01:22:38 you'll ruin him for life.
01:22:39 - But Harrison's not a good receiver.
01:22:40 - Receivers are useless without line.
01:22:42 - Yeah.
01:22:43 - Receivers are useless without good line play.
01:22:44 - You'll ruin him for life.
01:22:46 - Ruin who for life?
01:22:49 - You get a quarterback in here and you have-
01:22:51 - If you're running for his life in year one,
01:22:52 you might just-
01:22:53 - You can draft Daniels and not even play him in year one.
01:22:57 I mean, you don't need to.
01:22:58 - Play him behind Zappi?
01:23:00 - Well, no, go sign a veteran quarterback.
01:23:02 There are plenty of them out there.
01:23:03 They just signed freaking Flacco off the streets
01:23:07 and he did fine until he didn't.
01:23:08 But the point being is you don't need to just,
01:23:10 just because you draft a guy at the beginning
01:23:12 of the first doesn't mean you have to play him.
01:23:14 - Draft conversation is gonna be an interesting one.
01:23:16 Gerard Mayo was on with Burton on all access
01:23:18 and he strongly, strongly hinted
01:23:20 that they're drafting a quarterback at three,
01:23:22 whether that's gamesmanship or not, I don't know.
01:23:24 Very quickly on today's press conference,
01:23:25 I'm gonna double up on what Jimmy said
01:23:27 and we're gonna wrap, you know, with final thoughts here.
01:23:29 Anybody else wants to add on it?
01:23:31 Things I like, Gerard Mayo.
01:23:33 I like Gerard Mayo personally.
01:23:35 I think Gerard Mayo is an awesome guy.
01:23:37 I think he's one of the smartest guys around.
01:23:38 He's one of the funniest, most engaging guys.
01:23:40 And I like the idea-
01:23:41 - By the way, Joe Mazzuola today commented
01:23:43 and I'm saying he's very relationship based.
01:23:45 That's a big thing he saw.
01:23:46 - He's a young guy and he's just, you know, so yes,
01:23:49 it'll be anti-Bill in that way.
01:23:51 Honestly, strategically,
01:23:53 I don't think you'll ever see Bill Belichick's match again
01:23:55 in the NFL in terms of being able to just break down games
01:24:00 and strategies and all of those things.
01:24:01 So it's gonna be hard for him to live up
01:24:03 to that aspect of it, but he's got the room
01:24:06 and I think he's gonna be great.
01:24:07 But things I don't like, as Jimmy said,
01:24:10 they didn't interview a single person.
01:24:12 The bigger need was having a strong personnel person
01:24:15 and they're not going to go out there and bring in anybody.
01:24:19 I do not like institutional thinking.
01:24:21 I do not like when you just,
01:24:24 this notion of continuity for continuity's sake.
01:24:27 I think you should absolutely open your doors
01:24:29 to outside perspectives.
01:24:30 This was the knock on Belichick to begin with.
01:24:32 Everything was homegrown.
01:24:34 It was all his guys that he brought in,
01:24:36 raised up from pups, got them to be,
01:24:39 to the point where they were competent.
01:24:41 They all left.
01:24:42 He brought up the new wave.
01:24:43 They weren't as good.
01:24:44 It was all his people.
01:24:45 Everybody learned one way.
01:24:48 And I hate the idea that that's the only way.
01:24:51 I think that's insane.
01:24:52 You literally showed Belichick the door
01:24:54 because he refused to be more collaborative and open
01:24:58 and accept new and outside ideas.
01:25:00 You even brought in a friend of his, in Bill O'Brien,
01:25:03 a guy who we worked with before,
01:25:04 and he didn't give him any opportunity to succeed
01:25:08 with personnel or with his own assistants.
01:25:10 So I think it's insane to think that that's the right thing.
01:25:12 And third, and we said this on the text thread,
01:25:15 I think Kraft's a little high on his own supply here
01:25:17 of the notion of what the Patriot Way is.
01:25:19 It has nothing to do with Gillette Stadium
01:25:22 or wearing that uniform or anything
01:25:24 that ownership has done respectfully.
01:25:26 The Patriot Way is Brady, Belichick,
01:25:29 and 20 years of unprecedented success
01:25:32 in those six frigging banners that are hanging there.
01:25:35 Anything beyond that is nothing.
01:25:37 It doesn't mean anything.
01:25:38 Was there continuity from the '80s Celtics
01:25:41 because Chris Ford was the coach and ML Carr was the GM?
01:25:44 - Different sport though, John.
01:25:45 - No, it doesn't matter though.
01:25:46 - Hell no.
01:25:47 - Just 'cause those guys wore green
01:25:48 doesn't mean it has anything to do with Larry Bird
01:25:51 and those guys just curb stomping teams in the '80s.
01:25:54 The Patriot Way is about Bill and Brady.
01:25:57 They're gone.
01:25:58 There's no such thing as continuity.
01:26:00 So why keep things in house?
01:26:03 What are you preserving here?
01:26:05 The thing that was great is gone forever.
01:26:09 - Did you have better options elsewhere though?
01:26:11 - It doesn't, how do you, let's find,
01:26:13 how do you know?
01:26:14 They decided without even talking to people.
01:26:17 That blows my mind.
01:26:19 Second, there's not a, at the press conference,
01:26:22 there wasn't a single mention of
01:26:23 what you're gonna do with the OC,
01:26:25 what you're gonna do with the assistants.
01:26:26 - That was concerning.
01:26:27 - There's no plan.
01:26:30 So the whole thing to be--
01:26:30 - When he got asked about the offensive philosophy,
01:26:33 it was all leadership.
01:26:35 - They don't even know because
01:26:36 the worst thing's gonna happen here
01:26:38 is they think they're asking some people to come back,
01:26:40 Bellatrix is gonna get a job in a week,
01:26:42 and they're all gonna leave.
01:26:43 And then they're gonna be like,
01:26:44 "Oh, continuity, oh, you're out of here."
01:26:48 Now they gotta go find people.
01:26:49 Mayo's probably known he's had this job for eight weeks.
01:26:52 He doesn't have his whole staff in place already?
01:26:54 That's insane to me.
01:26:56 - Well, actually, I was gonna say,
01:26:59 I'm surprised, I wasn't stunned
01:27:01 that he didn't have a bunch of announcements, Jon,
01:27:02 but I mean, yeah, I think--
01:27:04 - I was, I fully expected him to have
01:27:06 at least half ready to roll out.
01:27:10 Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
01:27:12 - Yeah, and maybe it'll come, but...
01:27:15 - They're still asking guys if they think they're pretty.
01:27:20 Like, "Hey, do you wanna maybe get a soda?"
01:27:23 And like, they're gonna get,
01:27:24 these guys are like, "I don't know,
01:27:26 I'm gonna wait for a little bit."
01:27:27 Like, they're asking people to join them,
01:27:29 and they're like, "Maybe."
01:27:30 I don't know.
01:27:33 - Well, it's hard, I mean--
01:27:35 - Wanna get a soda.
01:27:35 - Even the coach, I love this.
01:27:37 - It's not a good situation.
01:27:38 - Wanna go for a pop?
01:27:39 You know, I don't know.
01:27:41 It's not, again, I'm sure some of these younger guys
01:27:45 are guys that are gonna,
01:27:46 it's due to be seen as a promotion,
01:27:47 would jump at the opportunity,
01:27:49 but for an established coach or whoever,
01:27:51 you know, around the league,
01:27:53 it's not that great of a situation here in New England
01:27:55 right now.
01:27:56 So they're not champing at the bit to jump aboard.
01:28:00 New coach, you know, a roster that's in flux,
01:28:04 for sure, to say the least, no quarterback,
01:28:06 couple of key defensive players that,
01:28:09 I'm not sure if, like Duggar, for example,
01:28:11 they've got some pieces,
01:28:12 but are those guys gonna be back?
01:28:13 We don't know yet.
01:28:14 So there's a lot of question marks.
01:28:16 And again--
01:28:17 - A full-scale rebuild.
01:28:17 - I think Patriots fans need to all,
01:28:20 I'm sure they do,
01:28:21 but ones who don't, hopefully will soon,
01:28:22 understand that this isn't gonna just get turned around.
01:28:25 Like, it's not how it works.
01:28:26 - And the Jonathan Craft thing is fishy as hell.
01:28:29 Fishy as hell, yes.
01:28:29 - Do you think so?
01:28:30 I wasn't sure about that.
01:28:32 - Give me a break.
01:28:33 You're not there for this?
01:28:34 There was a other craft business emergency
01:28:37 bigger than the Patriots?
01:28:39 - It seems strange,
01:28:40 but I don't know why they announced it.
01:28:42 - Rumors swirling that he's gonna be Jerry Jones Light
01:28:45 around the Patriots and have more personnel.
01:28:47 The reason they're not hiring a GM
01:28:48 is maybe Jonathan's gonna be more involved in personnel,
01:28:51 which is to say, "You guys do the work,
01:28:53 "and I'll say, 'Yeah, go get the quarterback,
01:28:55 "'go get the receiver.'"
01:28:56 I don't know what it is,
01:28:57 but the questions about what his role would be,
01:29:00 didn't get a chance to ask it
01:29:01 because he conveniently wasn't there.
01:29:02 That's weird to me.
01:29:04 He planned to be there.
01:29:05 He was announced that he was gonna be there.
01:29:07 - And then, oh, he just all of a sudden didn't show up.
01:29:10 - That's why I think it was weird, yeah.
01:29:11 I feel like they just wouldn't have announced him
01:29:13 to be there to begin with.
01:29:14 - Third head coach in 31 years,
01:29:15 first black head coach in team history,
01:29:17 the next, the Bill Belichick successor,
01:29:20 and Jonathan Craft wasn't at the press conference.
01:29:23 He wasn't at Bill's press conference last week
01:29:25 announcing the firing either.
01:29:26 So the whole thing is odd, you know?
01:29:28 - It is odd, and, ah.
01:29:31 - It's good, I hope I'm wrong.
01:29:32 - I hope I'm wrong. - What's the matter, John?
01:29:33 - Yeah.
01:29:34 - I hope I'm wrong in this,
01:29:35 but I haven't been wrong in a while.
01:29:37 (John laughs)
01:29:38 I feel like the pitchforks are gonna be out for the Crafts
01:29:41 in the next few years. - I think so too.
01:29:43 I mean, it's on them now, right?
01:29:44 But there's no one else to blame.
01:29:46 - They're not, I think Robert Craft, again,
01:29:49 everything he's done for the organization, great.
01:29:51 He's at an age now where he probably should
01:29:53 and has to take a bit of a step back,
01:29:55 and Jonathan is not probably the guy
01:29:59 that people are gonna love.
01:30:00 I'm getting like, I'm getting Mark Davis vibes.
01:30:03 - They gotta hire a junior.
01:30:04 - I'm getting Mark Davis vibes.
01:30:05 - I'm a little concerned. - Anyway, I'm out, guys.
01:30:08 - All right, we're gonna wrap it as well,
01:30:09 but I find some of it concerning,
01:30:11 and it's not an anti, I think Gerard Mayo's great.
01:30:15 I just think they have a million needs
01:30:17 beyond the head coach, and a lot of them have to do
01:30:19 with who's gonna run the organization,
01:30:21 and right now the answer is no one,
01:30:24 or maybe Jonathan, I don't know, or just collectively.
01:30:28 That, boy, does that always work.
01:30:30 Multiple bosses.
01:30:32 - No, there's no direction it feels like right now.
01:30:37 It feels like every day it's like, what should we do?
01:30:40 - Talk to someone.
01:30:43 Please interview a single person,
01:30:45 just one person for one job.
01:30:47 You have every job open.
01:30:49 - Right, exactly. - Interview one person.
01:30:51 Post the job.
01:30:54 - It's like they've never been in this situation
01:30:57 before, it feels, right?
01:30:58 So it's like everything's new to them.
01:30:59 - Come back Friday, Denver Nuggets should be super,
01:31:03 super fun, the crew will be back,
01:31:06 Joe Sway will be down at the garden as well,
01:31:07 so we should have everybody full house loaded up here,
01:31:11 wrapping this up, and again, Patriots thoughts?
01:31:13 Yeah, there might be some from time to time.
01:31:16 We're gonna sneak in and out, but we will have a better--
01:31:18 - Yeah, hour 20 in, give us that break.
01:31:20 - We will have a better game next time to talk about
01:31:22 as opposed to what happened tonight,
01:31:23 and we still went long enough here.
01:31:26 Thank you especially to Bobby and Jay King
01:31:28 for providing much of the night's entertainment.
01:31:30 - Everybody tweet Jay King, everybody tweet Jay King.
01:31:35 - Tweet Jay King like, "I can't believe Bobby
01:31:37 "kicked your ass."
01:31:38 - Yeah, yeah, you won't rematch Bobby.
01:31:41 Everyone tweet him and say,
01:31:41 "We heard that you won't rematch Bobby and Sebastian."
01:31:44 - But yeah, thank you guys for hanging out.
01:31:46 Thanks for Bobby for being a good sport.
01:31:48 And obviously the guys in the chat, keeping it real here,
01:31:52 and keeping it active, and keeping us on our toes,
01:31:54 and making us laugh, we appreciate it all.
01:31:57 So we'll see you guys on Friday.
