Lancashire police and crime commissioner Andrew Snowden with an update from the dedicated roads policing unit in Kirkham
Transcript
00:00 Hi, I'm Andrew Snowden, Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner and in this week's
00:04 update video I'm not stood outside or I walk in the beat like I often am. I am today out
00:10 with PC Kirkham with the dedicated Roads Policing Unit. It is a new unit that has been created
00:16 this year to make sure that we have a 24/7 dedicated resource in Lancashire targeting
00:22 dangerous drivers on Lancashire's roads. It is a key priority in my Fighting Crime Plan
00:28 to target those people who think they can get behind the wheel, drive dangerously, drive
00:33 at excessive speeds, drive under the influence of drink or drugs and put other people's lives
00:38 at risk and it is not acceptable. So I'm out with PC Kirkham, we are out targeting people
00:45 who are known through intelligence to be repeat offenders of drink and drug driving because
00:50 we know it has huge consequences for people when we see people seriously injured or even
00:56 killed on our roads by people taking irresponsible actions like that. PC Kirkham has got a great
01:02 track record of targeting those people and over the years Lancashire Police has done
01:06 a great job but even now with this dedicated unit there is more resource out there to target
01:11 those drivers. Over 1,300 people arrested on Lancashire's roads in the last year for
01:17 drink or drug driving. So the message that we are sending out is get help or get caught.
