00:00 Hi, I'm Andrew Snowden, Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner, and in this week's
00:04 update video I want to talk to you about seizing cash off criminals, which might sound like
00:10 the right thing to do. It's very complicated, it's not straightforward, and it is the right
00:14 thing to do. So take those ill-gotten gains off criminals across our county to disrupt
00:20 their criminal activity, to make sure that crime isn't paying for them, and then to give
00:25 it back to local communities across our county to help prevent antisocial behaviour and exploitation
00:32 by criminal gangs in the future. Since I got elected I set something up called the Safer
00:37 Lancashire Neighbourhood Fund, which takes all that cash we seize off criminals, the
00:41 great work that the police do in Lancashire to whether it be seizing cash in cars on the
00:47 motorways, to identifying assets, working with HMRC to seize those criminally gained
00:54 cash and assets, and we give it back through the Safer Neighbourhood Fund to local communities.
00:59 I've done an explainer video, many people ask me about it, about how do the police seize
01:03 money, how do they go about doing it, what happens to it, and I've done that video which
01:07 is online and can be viewed on our Facebook page, you just have a look for Lancashire
01:12 Police and Crime Commissioner and they'll come up and have a watch of the video that
01:15 explains how the police go about seizing those cash and assets.
