00:00 G'day, I'm Paul. So today we're checking out the new Ford Everest. It's only a quick walk
00:04 around, it's a static preview similar to our last one of the new Ford Ranger, but I'll
00:08 take you over some of the key highlights and the information we know so far before this
00:12 car goes on sale later this year. Let's start off at the front here. So big open grille
00:16 here because the Everest is going to feature a number of different drive trends, including
00:20 the addition of a 3.0-litre V6 diesel. So that's new to Everest and that's going to
00:24 bring with it not only more power and torque, but also the ability to tow more with the
00:28 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity. That's going to mean that this is a little more versatile
00:32 in terms of what you can use it for. It'll also come with the option of a 2.0-litre diesel
00:37 as well and the Australian market's probably going to get mainly permanent all-wheel drive
00:41 set up. Now that's the whole reason that Ford's gone with that bigger opening at the front
00:45 there. The 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity has meant needing more cooling for the engine
00:49 and that's how they've achieved it. Down the bottom here, Everest now comes with a set
00:53 of rated recovery points. These are similar to what you'll find on the Ranger. So they're
00:57 tucked in under the body here and a rated recovery point can be used to recover the
01:01 vehicle when it is stuck without the risk of them being snapped off the body when you
01:04 do finally snatch the vehicle out of its position. Up the top here, Everest now comes with a
01:10 set of LED headlights. So depending on which grade you go for, this will offer a mix of
01:14 halogen and LED, but the top spec will also come with matrix LED headlights. Matrix LED
01:20 is great because you can use a high beam without dazzling other drivers. It'll individually
01:24 shut down these LEDs as you go to prevent other drivers from being blinded. We actually
01:29 shot a video comparison of different headlight technologies in cars today and you can click
01:34 up there to watch that LED fog light down there as well. So keeping in mind with the
01:39 theme of this vehicle, it being off-road ready, Ford's going to offer Everest with a variation
01:44 of wheel options and tyre options as well. Depending on where you land in the model grade,
01:48 you'll be able to option an off-road focused tyre. In terms of off-road equipment, it's
01:52 going to come standard as well with a rear differential lock and that'll mean that when
01:56 you do go off-road, it can get you where you need to go. In addition to that, you can see
01:59 here the wheel arches, they are body coloured, so this is kind of a theme they go with with
02:04 larger four-wheel drives instead of the rugged off-road looking wheel arches you find on
02:09 some smaller SUVs. This is all quite a sophisticated design. Now this side section of the car,
02:14 you would have noticed in our video on the Range that this is actually functional cooling.
02:18 So there is a channel just behind this section of the car and then it all ducts out on the
02:22 side here. Depending on which engine you choose, you're going to get the Biturbo badge here
02:26 or the V6 badge on the side flank. Now, up the top here you have a wing mirror with an
02:30 indicator built into there. Depending on which grade you go for with Everest, and I keep
02:34 talking about that because this one here appears to be like a mid-spec, there will be the ability
02:39 to add a 360 camera and that'll be nestled under here. Ford's added zone lighting as
02:43 well to Everest and that means that it will use LEDs built into this housing to project
02:48 onto the ground, it'll use the headlights at the front and also the taillights at the
02:51 rear to light up around the car. So it makes things like setting up a campsite and all
02:55 that kind of thing a whole lot easier because you do have accessible light down the side
02:58 of the car. Side steps here for both getting inside and also protection when you are off-roading.
03:03 Around the rear you're going to notice two different taillight designs. So lower grade
03:07 models will just have this section off to the side but the more you step up the Range
03:10 you get the addition of these LED elements that come along the side there and also project
03:15 through to the centre. Behind this panel here as well you'll see Everest lettering. So this
03:19 is a really cool high-end design feature and this is what's going to set this vehicle apart
03:23 from things like Prado which still has a very basic design to it. This is starting to look
03:27 a whole lot more sophisticated, even in this model here which isn't really a top specification.
03:32 Badges down the bottom corners there and then this sill plate here for loading things in.
03:36 The actual wheelbase of the car has extended, it's also become a little bit wider as well
03:40 with changes to the suspension at the rear. Beneath the car it still uses a Watts linkage
03:45 and a coil sprung suspension setup so none of that has really changed but with the addition
03:50 of that 3.5-tonne brake towing capacity means that you do have a slightly more versatile
03:55 four-wheel drive that's still going to come with seven seats with a bigger boot as well.
03:59 So I can't go inside the car, this is still a pre-production car so we're just looking
04:03 from outside in but this looks very similar to what we've seen already in the Ford Ranger
04:08 and that means this giant screen in the centre there, so it's a 12-inch vertical display.
04:12 It comes with SYNC 4 which is the latest version of Ford's infotainment system.
04:16 That also means it comes with over-the-air updates and that means you can update around
04:19 50 modules within this car so if they find a more efficient way of delivering power to
04:24 lights or managing heat load on some components within the car, Ford can send that firmware
04:29 upgrade over the air and it means that it'll get just attached to the car there and it
04:33 will mean you don't have to visit the dealer which is something everyone hates doing.
04:36 Ahead of the driver you'll have the option of either an 8 or 12.4-inch display and this
04:40 will illustrate different things.
04:42 So in this particular car here it's like a mid-level display but you can imagine on that
04:45 bigger screen you're going to have all of the graphics about what the car is doing,
04:49 the off-road mode, the angles that it's on, it's quite a sophisticated setup.
04:53 All of your four-wheel drive controls are down here now so you can switch between all
04:56 the different drive modes.
04:57 There's now an electronic shifter as well and that means that when you do activate things
05:01 like the soft parking mode it'll be able to do everything from going into park, reverse,
05:06 drive all on its own without you having to intervene.
05:08 So the level of technology down there is great.
05:10 I'm a big fan of these wood grain elements along the dashboard there.
05:14 You can see that they've really gone to the effort of making this interior feel a whole
05:18 lot more premium and I suspect there will be a price rise coming with this car, especially
05:23 if you go with the V6 diesel and things like that are going to just make it a whole lot
05:26 more liveable in terms of this interior package.
05:29 Now that was a really quick walk-around of the new Ford Everest.
05:31 We actually shot a way more detailed video with all of the information you need to know
05:36 about Ford's new SUV, to check that out you can click up here to watch that.
