00:00 G'day, I'm Paul.
00:01 So we are with the new Ford Ranger Raptor.
00:03 It's an exciting day because we've heard a lot about this car.
00:06 We've seen the new generation of the Ranger,
00:08 but it's finally time to talk about the Raptor.
00:11 It's the one that everyone's been waiting for.
00:12 So I'll give you a bit of detail on the engine
00:14 and we'll do a general walkthrough of the car.
00:17 This is a pre-production car,
00:18 so I can't quite show you some of the things,
00:20 but it will just give you a good overview of what is coming.
00:22 So let's have a look at the exterior design to start with.
00:25 So obviously, next generation Ranger in general
00:28 has a similar design to this,
00:29 but the Raptor takes it to that next level.
00:32 You've got that big Ford lettering up the front there
00:34 with plenty of avenues here for cooling
00:36 because this is now a turbocharged V6 petrol.
00:39 It needs all the cooling it can get.
00:41 And just like the Ranger itself,
00:42 it has these extra channels down the side
00:44 to help with the cooling
00:46 and make sure that you still have that performance.
00:48 Down bottom here, you have underbody protection.
00:50 So it's a 2.3 millimeter steel plate
00:53 and that plate is able to protect elements of the engine.
00:56 And then as you go further down the car,
00:57 you've got protection for the transfer case
00:59 and other key components to the car as well.
01:01 Behind here, you've got rated recovery hooks.
01:03 So you've got two at the front and two at the rear as well.
01:06 Now these are important because if you do get stuck,
01:08 this is what is going to recover you.
01:10 And without rated recovery points,
01:12 you can snap these things off.
01:13 So they have coded here for that off-road element.
01:16 Headlights.
01:17 So this comes standard with matrix LED headlights.
01:20 And these are also gonna be important
01:22 if you are doing a whole bunch of off-road driving
01:23 at nighttime.
01:25 Matrix LED headlights, of course,
01:26 give you extra coverage when it comes to oncoming traffic.
01:29 You can be in a high beam situation
01:31 and they're not blind or dazzle anyone else
01:33 that is approaching.
01:34 We actually shot a video
01:35 that compared headlight technology.
01:37 So if you wanna have a look at that,
01:39 click up here to watch that.
01:40 Now let's talk about the wheels.
01:42 So this comes with two versions of a 17 inch alloy wheel.
01:46 This is the standard setup here,
01:47 but you can get beadlock wheels as well.
01:49 The advantage of beadlock wheels
01:51 is you can drop the pressure all the way down
01:53 and the actual tire itself won't slip off the rim.
01:56 Beadlock rims are available in the F-150 Raptor.
01:59 So it is good to see them here introduced.
02:01 You can only really officially use them off-road.
02:03 They're not for on-road use,
02:04 but it's great to see that Ford is actually considering that
02:07 as an option here for the car.
02:08 So you're still getting the BFGoodrich KO2 tires.
02:11 These are fantastic.
02:12 Not so great in the wet.
02:13 So this is now a permanent four-wheel drive
02:15 instead of just being a rear-wheel drive
02:17 come all-wheel drive.
02:18 So it should mean that you get a little bit of extra grip
02:21 and traction out on the road,
02:22 especially with turbo V6.
02:24 Now buried under here,
02:25 you have aluminium upper and lower control arms.
02:27 You've got a unique chassis for the Raptor
02:29 with unique mounting points for some of these items.
02:31 But more importantly, Ford has gone to the effort now
02:34 fitting a more advanced suspension system.
02:37 So it uses now a Fox 2 1/2-inch live damper.
02:40 And the way this works is similar
02:42 to the F-150 Raptor in the States.
02:45 It's an adaptive damping system.
02:46 So it means that depending on the drive mode
02:48 you've selected and depending on what the car's doing,
02:50 it can adaptively vary the damping.
02:52 Even to the point where you have unique jounce dampers
02:55 in there to make sure that when you do come
02:57 to that full compression or full extension,
02:59 the car is managing everything.
03:00 The brakes have stayed the same
03:02 from the outgoing Ranger Raptor,
03:04 but they have changed the calibration here.
03:05 So it better performs off-road
03:07 and it's able to handle those conditions
03:08 a whole lot better as well.
03:10 Up the top here, you have functional air vents on the side
03:12 and also the bonnet.
03:13 You can actually see with these air vents,
03:15 you've got so much heat that's being generated under there
03:18 that it's able to basically push all that heat out
03:20 through the top and also down the side channels
03:22 on the body here.
03:23 The body sits wider as well.
03:24 So you've got these flared wheel arches
03:26 that cater for those big wheels.
03:28 So you do really notice the stance of this car
03:31 when you look at it up front or even from behind.
03:32 It has a real presence to it out on the road.
03:35 You've got an indicator built into the wing mirror
03:37 and then under here you have a 360 camera.
03:39 Ford has integrated things like a front
03:41 and rear differential lock into Ranger Raptor.
03:44 And the off-road mode is now delivered
03:45 on that big infotainment screen in the center.
03:48 So that will give you vision out the front,
03:49 the sides and the rear as you drive.
03:51 So it is a pretty sort of comprehensive setup there.
03:53 So big side steps here as well.
03:55 Similar to the previous generation Ranger Raptor,
03:58 it's a cast aluminium and you've got holes in here as well.
04:01 So if you are doing any sand driving,
04:02 sand can just sort of fall between those
04:04 without any dramas at all.
04:05 Now around the back here,
04:06 we have a set of full LED taillights.
04:09 Again, similar to the F-150 Raptor.
04:11 And I mentioned that a lot
04:12 because they have drawn a lot of similarities from this.
04:14 They've actually got radar equipment
04:16 built into this now as well.
04:17 So that is kind of a high series tail lamp
04:20 that is gonna come standard on Raptor.
04:22 Similar to other Ranger vehicles,
04:24 you also have sections here to mount things
04:27 like your hoops at the rear.
04:29 You also have the ability, if I drop this down,
04:32 to use a ruler that's built into that tray
04:35 and also use these slots here for things like your clamps.
04:39 So you can actually clamp onto that
04:40 and use this as a workbench if you do want to.
04:42 Ford hasn't yet revealed payload or towing capacity,
04:45 but given the nature of this vehicle
04:47 and the nature of the previous generation Ranger Raptor,
04:49 I suspect you will be compromised
04:51 in terms of towing capacity and also payload,
04:53 given that it is very much an off-road focused vehicle.
04:57 It is interesting to note as well that over here,
04:59 you actually have the ability to mount
05:00 a whole bunch of electrical extensions
05:02 so that you can power devices at the work site
05:05 and then use the engine to run those.
05:07 I don't know if we'll be getting those in Australia,
05:09 but it is good to see the plate there.
05:10 It means they're thinking about it
05:11 and potentially this will be available
05:13 in some markets as well.
05:16 Now down the bottom here,
05:17 another interesting element is the exhaust.
05:19 So it's an active exhaust and it means that
05:21 depending on which drive mode you're in,
05:23 it will vary its loudness.
05:24 And you've got four levels of loudness as well,
05:26 all the way from quiet through to extremely loud.
05:29 So you're gonna hear this coming from a mile away.
05:31 (engine revving)
05:34 Another two recovery points at the back here,
05:36 and you can see that tow bar integrated high
05:38 to give you a better departure angle.
05:40 Beneath the skin there,
05:41 you have a revised version of the Watts linkage
05:44 and coil springs along with that Fox Racing suspension
05:47 as well.
05:48 Now Ford's asked us to not sit inside.
05:50 This is a pre-production car,
05:51 but I'll run you through some of the design elements.
05:53 So in addition to these sort of sculpted seats
05:55 that really hold you in nicely,
05:57 you can see this red stitching
05:58 and also the red highlights throughout the car.
06:00 That's like the Ford Performance colour.
06:02 Ford's also developed some new material
06:03 to sit along the door line as well.
06:05 That material is fresh to the Ford world
06:08 and it kind of mimics what we've seen
06:09 in the Land Rover Defender.
06:10 It's this sort of rugged vinyl style material.
06:12 Central to the cabin is a big 12 inch display
06:15 that comes with SYNC 4.
06:16 So that's the latest version of Ford's infotainment system.
06:18 It has over the air updates in it.
06:20 It can update something like 50 modules within the car,
06:23 just remotely, which is pretty cool.
06:25 And then ahead of the driver is a 12.4 inch LCD display.
06:29 Central to the cabin, you've got your off-road buttons
06:31 and you also have a customisable button on the steering wheel
06:33 to set things like your exhaust noise
06:36 and what the car's doing when you turn it on
06:38 for the first time.
06:39 And then you press that button.
06:39 It's kind of like the M buttons you'll find
06:42 in some BMW vehicles.
06:43 Now let's talk about the engine.
06:44 So three litre turbocharged petrol V6.
06:47 It's the EcoBoost engine.
06:49 In terms of power and torque,
06:50 it makes just under 300 kilowatts of power
06:52 and a little under 600 newton metres of torque.
06:54 So this will be very quick.
06:57 Part of the suspension changes they've made
06:58 allow it to cater for the pitch
07:01 and also the roll that you get
07:02 when you're accelerating or braking.
07:04 So it will variably control the amount of firmness
07:06 that you have to ensure that the car doesn't pitch too much
07:09 as you throttle on.
07:10 It's made it to a 10 speed automatic only
07:12 and it's a full-time four-wheel drive system,
07:14 but you can set it up to run in two-wheel drive if you want.
07:17 So this will still do some fun drifting stuff
07:19 should you require.
07:20 It's got both front and rear differential locks
07:22 and they're an electronic differential lock,
07:25 not an air locker style system.
07:26 I think one of the coolest parts though
07:28 is inbuilt anti-lag.
07:29 So for three seconds after throttle lift,
07:31 the car's able to keep feeding the turbocharger with air
07:34 and it keeps it spooled
07:35 so that if you go back for the throttle,
07:37 it's ready to rumble.
07:38 You don't have to wait for that to spool up
07:40 again to give you the torque that you need.
07:41 That's pretty unique to this segment.
07:43 Anti-lag systems are things you find on rally cars,
07:45 Ford Focus RS as well.
07:46 So pretty awesome to see that they've fitted here
07:48 as standard.
07:49 This is really exciting stuff.
07:50 We cannot wait to get behind the wheel
07:52 and I hope you enjoyed this quick overview.
07:54 Now, if you did enjoy this video,
07:55 please make sure you share it with your mates.
07:57 And if you haven't done so already,

08:00 Let me know in the comment section below,
08:02 what do you think about the next generation
08:04 Ford Ranger Raptor?
08:06 Is there anything sort of you're looking forward to
08:09 when it comes to this car.
08:10 I'm really keen for your feedback.
08:11 But until next time, take it easy.
