00:00 G'day, I'm Paul.
00:01 So, with so many new electric cars going on sale,
00:04 the most logical one to go electric is vans,
00:07 because when you think about it,
00:08 range is less of an issue in vans,
00:10 'cause they're doing a whole bunch of city driving,
00:12 dropping packages off and stuff.
00:13 So, Ford has just launched this in Australia.
00:15 It's called the Ford e-Transit,
00:17 and as you can tell by the name,
00:19 it's an electric version of the Transit,
00:22 and the blue stuff just there.
00:23 Now, in terms of the pricing,
00:25 we don't actually know the pricing yet,
00:26 which is kind of frustrating.
00:28 So, what I'm gonna have to do is film that bit later,
00:31 and we're gonna insert that into the video now.
00:33 The outro's also going to be slightly different as well,
00:36 'cause my outro will depend on exactly how much it costs.
00:39 So, we finally have pricing.
00:41 It is priced at just under $110,000.
00:45 That sounds expensive, but it's not as expensive
00:48 as something like an LDV e-Deliver 9,
00:50 which this competes with,
00:51 which is priced at over 115 grand.
00:53 So, today we're gonna do a detailed review of this van.
00:56 If you do wanna skip ahead to other parts of this review,
00:58 you can use the time codes on the screen,
01:00 or if you're on YouTube,
01:01 you can scroll down and use the chapters below.
01:03 And if you haven't done so already,
01:04 please subscribe to our channel and press the bell icon
01:06 so you can find out every single time we drive a van
01:09 with blue grille sections.
01:12 Now, let's talk exterior design.
01:15 You've got three external colours to pick from.
01:17 All but white is gonna set you back $675.
01:21 Visually, this looks just pretty much the exact same
01:23 as a regular Transit.
01:24 You do have these blue highlights,
01:25 you've got your battery charger just there
01:27 that I'll run you through in just a second.
01:29 Halogen headlights, you know,
01:30 it would be nice if we stepped into the modern ages
01:32 and had LED here,
01:34 but hopefully that will come with a facelift of some sort.
01:37 Outside of that, it's all pretty straightforward.
01:38 Bit of chrome there around the grille,
01:40 body colour here, and then black down the bottom.
01:42 You've got front parking sensors, a black section,
01:45 and also a route there to the cooling stack
01:47 for the battery system.
01:48 Now, I wanted to show you under the bonnet here,
01:50 'cause this is quite interesting.
01:52 This is an exposed air vent.
01:54 I'm gonna get the key out
01:55 to show you what it looks like under here.
01:57 Now, I say it's interesting
01:58 because I kind of wasn't expecting to see
02:02 what is under here,
02:03 because they've basically just taken
02:06 the internal combustion engine out entirely
02:09 and just put the EV components in.
02:11 So as a result of that,
02:12 you actually have a fair bit of space here to play with.
02:15 And under here, you can see they have
02:17 a bunch of electrical components.
02:19 I think some of this stuff is going to be your inverters
02:21 and things that will convert from DC to AC,
02:24 and also the onboard AC charger as well.
02:27 So yeah, it's a pretty sort of interesting space.
02:30 The other fascinating thing as well is
02:31 under here is your spare tyre.
02:33 So it's located just under the front there.
02:35 So yeah, pretty clever setup there for the spare battery.
02:38 This is also fascinating as well.
02:39 This is a functional vent,
02:41 and it looks like an exhaust here for the water
02:44 just to drip down.
02:45 So yeah, interesting setup under there.
02:47 Now, before we go any further,
02:48 let me run you through the EV components here.
02:52 So charging is performed down the front here.
02:55 It'll be interesting to see how this works
02:56 because this thing is enormous.
02:58 If you do drive this into a charger,
03:00 you have to go front in,
03:01 and then the back kind of just sticks out.
03:04 So you're going to have to have a dedicated charging area
03:06 that's going to fit bigger vans like this.
03:09 You have both AC and DC charging.
03:11 And the good thing here is that AC charging operates
03:14 up to three phase and just a little over 11 kilowatts,
03:17 which is great news.
03:18 You also have DC charging up to around 120 kilowatts.
03:21 Battery size is just under 70 kilowatt hours.
03:25 And then you have a WLTP driving range
03:28 of about 300 kilometers,
03:29 depending on whether you go for the high roof
03:30 or the low roof version of this.
03:33 So those specs are actually pretty good
03:35 when you consider that any bigger
03:37 and you're going to need more charging time,
03:40 it's going to reduce your payload capacity.
03:43 So I think it is about the right size
03:45 for something like this.
03:46 Let's whip around to the side and have a look down here.
03:48 So you've got hubcaps,
03:50 haven't seen these for a while,
03:52 on a 16 inch steel wheel.
03:54 It is actually all pretty nicely packaged
03:56 'cause if you have a look under there,
03:57 you can see where the battery system starts
03:59 and they've used the entire length
04:00 between the front and rear axle to contain that.
04:03 There is also a battery protection device there
04:05 if you do get to the point where you are
04:07 exceeding the vehicle's ground clearance
04:08 so you do no damage to the battery
04:11 'cause obviously lithium ion battery,
04:12 you don't want to be piercing any of those cells.
04:14 It can be disastrous.
04:16 Wheel arch cladding just here,
04:18 big wing mirror with your indicator built into the side there,
04:21 two tier wing mirror too
04:22 so you do get a bit of visibility
04:24 down the side of the vehicle.
04:25 This is interesting,
04:26 have a look at the size of this keyhole.
04:29 It just seems like it was a bit of an afterthought,
04:31 just this enormous thing just slapped onto there
04:33 so I don't really understand the logic in that.
04:35 Now you can actually get two sliding doors,
04:36 this one only has the one sliding door
04:38 and there's a number of different configurations
04:39 you can get in terms of glass
04:40 and that kind of stuff as well.
04:42 Whip around to the back with me.
04:43 So around the back here,
04:44 this is finally a car that is taller than I am.
04:47 You got the camera up the top there
04:48 with a set of LED lights there to shine onto the ground here.
04:52 E-transit there,
04:53 so everyone knows you're driving an electric vehicle.
04:55 Black bumper down the bottom there,
04:56 you've got these bump stops for the doors when they open.
04:59 I'll show you what it looks like when the doors do open.
05:00 So you get your first lock stop there
05:02 and then you can go all the way around
05:05 to sewing them wide open.
05:06 You've got a button there for that light to come on
05:08 and off like that.
05:09 This one open too.
05:12 So some pretty impressive numbers here
05:14 because despite this having the EV drivetrain,
05:17 they actually haven't robbed you of any space in here
05:20 compared to the diesel version.
05:21 So it means that you have a little over
05:23 12 cubic metres of space.
05:24 It is a little less with the low roof version
05:26 and you do have around 1600 kilos of payload.
05:30 Again, depends whether you go the high roof or the low roof.
05:33 So there really is very little compromise here
05:35 and the packaging under there is really impressive.
05:37 So you can see the electric motor under there.
05:39 It's got independent rear suspension.
05:41 It's just a pretty sort of neat looking setup.
05:44 So I do like that you don't have to compromise there.
05:46 Come and join me inside here.
05:48 And fun fact, it's almost tall enough for me to stand here.
05:51 So you've got plenty of space here
05:53 and obviously this is a bare shell for you to work with.
05:56 You can kit it out however you like.
05:57 You've got load hooks down the side there.
05:59 You also have a 12 volt outlet attached to that pillar.
06:01 Outside of that, it's all sort of pretty straightforward here.
06:04 This bulkhead also means you're not gonna be wasting
06:05 a huge amount of electricity to heat the cabin as well.
06:09 Typically in something like a HiAce
06:11 or something where you don't have this bulkhead,
06:13 you're gonna be heating this entire section here
06:15 and using a whole stack of energy.
06:16 So pop out the side door here.
06:20 Show you how this works.
06:21 All sort of pretty standard operation.
06:22 Grab handle up the top there.
06:24 So outside of that, it's all sort of pretty straightforward.
06:26 One thing I did notice though, have a look at this.
06:28 This is where you would normally fill
06:29 the diesel transit with fuel.
06:31 Obviously you don't do any of that here
06:33 and they kind of have kept that there and not deleted it,
06:36 which I think is kind of strange.
06:37 Now let me know what you think about the E-Transit
06:40 in the comment section below.
06:41 Do you think it's good that vans are going
06:42 electric, do you think that this is about enough
06:44 driving range for someone who is doing
06:46 city deliveries and stuff like that?
06:48 I am keen for your feedback.
06:49 So we're inside the E-Transit.
06:51 This is what the key looks like.
06:52 You've got unlock, lock and a button there
06:54 just for the rear doors, Ford logo on the back.
06:57 It's not a proximity sensing key,
06:59 but there is a push button start
07:01 once you are inside your vehicle.
07:03 In terms of the way this is presented,
07:04 it's actually not too bad.
07:06 I was expecting this to be a whole lot more barren
07:08 than it is.
07:09 You've got this enormous infotainment screen
07:10 that I'll run you through in just a second.
07:12 And the rest of the cabin is pretty sort of
07:14 hard wearing plastics, which I think is probably
07:16 what you expect from a vehicle like this.
07:18 Perhaps the bus version of this would be
07:21 a bit more sort of fancy, but for the most part,
07:24 this is as good as it'll get.
07:26 It's a little bit disappointing though
07:27 with the touch points that this stuff here,
07:29 it's great that there is an armrest that is adjustable,
07:32 but the downside is that you kind of have to,
07:35 yeah, you've got hard points around the place
07:38 when you want to just relax.
07:39 So I prefer if that was a little softer than it is,
07:41 but it's not the end of the world.
07:42 Now, what about your build quality?
07:44 Well, I don't really know what to push here.
07:49 Oh God, it feels okay.
07:50 I think I read that this is the world's best selling van.
07:53 So if you've got a Transit, what has it been like
07:55 in terms of build quality and reliability?
07:57 Door slam test, that's what it sounds like.
08:00 (door slamming)
08:02 Sounds sturdy.
08:04 So infotainment, I love this.
08:06 This is SYNC 4, so brand new infotainment system,
08:09 really nice looking screen as well.
08:11 So over the top, it just gives you all the information
08:13 that you need.
08:14 12 inch display, which I reckon is cool.
08:16 Inbuilt satellite navigation,
08:18 and then if you go back to the home screen,
08:20 you can see some of the other sort of items
08:21 that you have here.
08:23 Bluetooth connectivity with your phone.
08:24 You also have voice recognition,
08:26 so that means that you can send commands
08:28 either to the car's infotainment system
08:30 or to your phone's interpretation system,
08:34 such as Siri or whatever the Google equivalent is.
08:37 In terms of actual smartphone integration,
08:39 you have both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
08:41 We'll show you what Apple CarPlay looks like first.
08:43 We have a weird setup, so it's not really full screen.
08:46 Yeah, that's an odd setup actually,
08:50 but it works okay.
08:51 Tiny bit laggy there, but okay for the most part.
08:54 This is what Android Auto looks like,
08:56 so wireless as well.
08:57 It looks kind of weird when it's squashed in there,
08:59 but yeah, nice and snappy.
09:01 Then in addition to that,
09:02 you also have remote connectivity with the vehicle as well,
09:04 so you can see what the charge is like.
09:07 You can precondition the cabin
09:08 all through the Ford Pass application.
09:11 Head of the driver is a smaller LCD display
09:13 that just gives you critical details,
09:15 such as your trip computer, safety information,
09:17 and just a couple of other sort of bits and pieces.
09:19 And outside of that, you just have these analog gauges
09:21 that'll run you through, and we do go out for a spin.
09:23 On the radio front, you have AM/FM, DAB, digital radio,
09:26 and there is just a four-speaker sound system in here.
09:29 Now let's talk safety.
09:30 So you have autonomous emergency braking
09:32 with pedestrian detection.
09:33 You don't have an auto-dimming rear vision mirror,
09:35 but it's kind of not the end of the world
09:37 because you're always gonna have stuff in the back,
09:39 you're not gonna see it anyway.
09:40 You have blind spot monitoring built into the wing mirror.
09:42 You have radar cruise control
09:44 with a lane departure warning and a lane-keeping assistant.
09:47 You have both front and rear parking sensors
09:49 and a reverse view camera
09:50 that's mounted really nice and high.
09:52 I'll show you what that looks like.
09:53 There it is there.
09:54 Sorry for the lines I've left on the grass,
09:58 but you can see there, that top-down view is great
10:00 'cause you get to see everything around the vehicle,
10:02 and the quality of that is excellent too.
10:04 Like it is really impressive.
10:06 You can then adjust the view that you want as well.
10:08 That is like a super wide-angle view right there.
10:11 In addition to that, you also have rear cross traffic alert,
10:13 which is an excellent feature for a vehicle this size.
10:15 Now let's talk about your practicality,
10:16 and we'll start off with connectivity.
10:18 You've got a USB-A port just here,
10:20 a 12-volt outlet just there.
10:22 Up ahead of the driver here,
10:23 you've got another 12-volt outlet and a USB-C port.
10:26 I would have actually loved to see a USB-A port
10:28 up the top here for a dash cam
10:30 like you find on the Ford Ranger.
10:31 I think that'd be a really good inclusion
10:33 and something that I should definitely think about.
10:35 Outside of that, where are you gonna store your things?
10:37 Well, good news.
10:39 There are stacks of places to store your things.
10:42 So your phone can kind of leave anywhere.
10:44 You can pop it up there.
10:45 You can pop it down here.
10:47 It kind of goes wherever you want it to go.
10:49 In terms of your coffee cup,
10:50 you've got this center armrest here that drops down,
10:53 and that's got a couple of cup holders in it.
10:54 But if you do need something a little bit closer,
10:56 you've got a cup holder just here as well
10:58 that'll hold your coffee cup.
11:00 Mind you, it might get de-lidded
11:01 'cause it's kind of hanging there.
11:03 Let's see what it's like with our normal bottle in there.
11:06 Yeah, no dramas, all good.
11:07 You have an additional bottle holder up the front here,
11:10 more bottle holders in the door,
11:13 and over here ahead of the driver,
11:15 there really is a stack of storage.
11:16 So just sort of running through it all again,
11:18 you've got this slot up here to close the door,
11:20 but can also be used to store keys
11:22 and other bits and pieces.
11:23 You've got this storage here next to the driver's foot.
11:27 You've got this storage here next to the driver's knee,
11:29 a cup holder here, storage along the dashboard there,
11:32 along the top of the dashboard.
11:33 You're gonna have storage above the driver's head as well,
11:37 in addition to storage on the passenger side.
11:39 This section here, and I'll show you what this does as well
11:42 if we clear some of this stuff out of the way.
11:44 You can actually lift the base of these seats
11:48 to then reveal storage beneath the floor.
11:51 Now, this storage beneath the floor
11:53 is where you can keep stuff like the charging cable.
11:57 So that all sort of fits under there
11:58 without sort of too many dramas.
11:59 So yeah, there is so much storage in here.
12:02 And I love that they have just thought about everything
12:05 to make sure that you do have somewhere
12:06 to put all of your odds and ends
12:08 while you are doing your job day to day.
12:10 So in terms of comfort,
12:12 you've got automatic climate control, single zone,
12:15 heated seats for the front row.
12:17 You've also got this interesting function here.
12:19 If you go into the climate menu, it's called E-Heat.
12:21 And according to this,
12:22 the only way to actually heat the cabin is to have that on.
12:26 So it uses electricity to heat it.
12:29 I think if you didn't have this on,
12:30 it would simply play with, I guess, air from outside
12:35 to try and deliver you as much heat as possible.
12:38 So yeah, I'm not really sure how that function works.
12:41 But yeah, outside of that, it is pretty straightforward.
12:43 And given it is such a small cabinet,
12:45 it cools down pretty quickly, even on hot days.
12:47 And when it comes to seat comfort,
12:48 you're gonna be spending all day in one of these.
12:50 What is it like?
12:52 Look, I'm finding it pretty good.
12:53 The driving position itself is actually pretty good as well.
12:55 The steering wheel sits nicely in the hand.
12:57 The steering wheel offers both tilt and reach adjustment.
13:00 And on our reach test,
13:01 all of this stuff is easy to reach while you're driving.
13:04 Seat adjustment is electric,
13:05 so you can go forwards and backwards.
13:07 Backrest can go forwards, backwards.
13:08 You can also adjust your lumbar support.
13:10 Passenger seat, on the other hand, is no adjustment at all.
13:13 So it all just sits there.
13:15 Okay, so we've just hit the road in the E-Transit.
13:22 Gotta say, it's really quiet in here.
13:24 I don't know if it's just 'cause we're surrounded
13:25 by the bulkhead here or not,
13:26 but it is really quiet.
13:28 You don't hear much at all.
13:29 Like even when you get on it,
13:31 it is pretty sort of silent in here.
13:33 You don't hear much whirring or anything like that.
13:35 So yeah, that's great news if you do spend most of the day
13:38 inside one of these for work,
13:40 because it is going to be a nice, relaxing place
13:42 to be seated.
13:43 So in terms of the specs,
13:44 it is a single electric motor on the rear axle.
13:47 It produces just under 200 kilowatts of power
13:49 and most impressively, over 400 newton meters of torque.
13:53 So it means that it is the most torquey option
13:56 if you do want a transit.
13:58 So even more than the diesel stuff,
13:59 which is just pretty impressive.
14:02 What does that feel like behind the wheel?
14:04 Yeah, look, it does all that sort of standard EV stuff.
14:07 It sort of pushes you in the back nicely.
14:10 Everything feels nice and sort of sporty and engaging,
14:13 which I reckon is what you want from one of these.
14:16 'Cause if you are in and around the city,
14:18 you don't want it to be slow.
14:19 You just want it to be able to nip in and out of stuff.
14:21 So it does all that EV stuff that you would expect it to do.
14:26 (car engine roaring)
14:28 You do have regen as well.
14:29 So when you roll out of the throttle,
14:31 it goes into that little regen mode.
14:32 And if you push L here on the dashboard,
14:34 it goes deeper into the regen as well.
14:36 And let's see if it actually comes to a stop.
14:38 I haven't tried this yet for a single pedal driving setup.
14:41 It's getting close.
14:44 No, so it'll roll down to like five, 10 Ks an hour
14:46 and then it just keeps going.
14:47 So, yep, no, none of that for you.
14:50 In terms of ahead of the driver here, the gauges.
14:52 So you've got a power gauge.
14:53 If I go full throttle,
14:54 you can see that goes all the way through to a hundred.
14:56 And then when I go into the regen zone,
14:58 it pops down into the green section.
15:00 Now this is interesting down here.
15:02 So a battery gauge over here
15:04 to show you how much battery capacity you have left
15:06 and how much range you have left.
15:07 But down here is interesting.
15:08 So this is telling you how much available power you have.
15:11 And when we go for a faster lap,
15:12 you'll notice that starts disappearing pretty quickly
15:15 because it is trying to deliver as much energy
15:18 as it can from the battery system.
15:19 But this is designed to be more relaxing
15:22 as opposed to a sports car.
15:24 So it does tend to fade away a little bit
15:26 if you do give the car a hard time.
15:27 I'll be curious to see how this actually performs
15:30 if you do have a trailer hooked up
15:31 or you have a significant load
15:33 and you are sort of speeding up and slowing down constantly.
15:36 I'd be really keen to get this to capacity
15:39 and see not only how much range you get,
15:41 but how it feels behind the wheel under the throttle.
15:43 So the ride, it's actually really impressive.
15:49 It's using heavy duty trailing arm suspension at the rear.
15:53 So it's an independent rear suspension setup.
15:55 It actually just takes on bumps really nicely.
15:58 So when you are in and around the city,
15:59 even when it is totally unladen, it's very cruisy.
16:02 Often you find with leaf spring vehicles, as an example,
16:05 they're built for load carrying.
16:06 And then when you do stick a bit of load in them,
16:08 they start sort of just not feeling great
16:10 until you get to the point where they are loaded.
16:12 When they're unladen, it's just sort of all over the place.
16:15 Whereas this on the other hand feels really nice
16:17 and comfortable here behind the wheel.
16:18 Okay, so sine waves.
16:20 Let's get up to 130 Ks an hour.
16:23 See how this performs over the sine waves.
16:26 Alrighty.
16:28 There's 130 there.
16:30 That's surprisingly good.
16:34 I was genuinely expecting this to be all over the place,
16:36 but that is great.
16:37 Even at these highway speeds,
16:39 you really don't notice a huge amount of road noise.
16:41 This little sort of cabin we're in right now
16:44 is really nicely insulated.
16:45 So it means you aren't getting any of the effects
16:47 that you would get from the road
16:48 when you hit course chip sections at highway speeds.
16:51 So it's pretty sort of nice place to be seated.
16:54 Now, if you do head into the country in your E-Transit,
16:57 what's it like on a super bumpy road?
16:59 This is our worst case scenario road.
17:02 Do this at 90 Ks an hour, it's full of potholes
17:05 and divots and all other nasty stuff.
17:07 Look at that condensed sine wave coming up here.
17:10 So far, this is really bloody good.
17:11 Even on this, it's great.
17:13 Like it is just smoothly going along those corrugations.
17:17 It is surprising how well this is performing at the moment.
17:20 So yeah, look, excellent job by Ford
17:23 in terms of the way they've made this ride and handle.
17:25 It is surprising for such a big car that it is so,
17:28 just easy to drive.
17:30 Now, it is worth calling out at this point too,
17:36 I don't have any economy figures from Ford.
17:39 It is pretty frustrating.
17:40 We didn't get the price or the economy figures.
17:42 So I don't know if this is good or not,
17:44 but according to this,
17:45 we're averaging just over 30 kilowatt hours
17:48 per 100 kilometers.
17:49 So that's not great when you look at it
17:52 compared to a regular EV.
17:53 Not sure what it's like here in the context of a van.
17:56 Yeah.
17:58 Okay, time for a fast lap.
17:59 It doesn't have a sport mode.
18:01 So let's just tip it in and see how we go.
18:04 I feel like I'm about to fall out of my seat here.
18:06 Yeah, so obviously you are never gonna be driving like this,
18:15 but I just wanted to see what this actually feels like
18:17 when you do get stuck into it.
18:20 It's actually surprisingly good.
18:22 So, the low center of gravity that's afforded
18:25 by that battery system means you are actually,
18:28 I don't know, you're getting kind of a fun drive here
18:31 behind the wheel.
18:32 Obviously it is enormous, but steering feels good
18:36 and it has a fair bit of body roll as well.
18:39 But outside of that, it's actually pretty fun to drive.
18:42 Now we came to see what it's like on the back straight here
18:44 'cause I'm already feeling right now,
18:46 I've got my foot flat to the board there.
18:48 (car engine revving)
18:51 We're only getting 50% of available torque.
18:54 The battery level rather is a little low,
18:58 so that could be contributing to it,
18:59 but we came to see what happens
19:01 when we hit the back straight here.
19:04 All right, here we go, one last corner
19:05 and I'm flat to the board right now,
19:08 but we're only getting about 50,
19:09 oh, there we go, it's spiked up again.
19:11 Okay, flat to the board.
19:12 Yeah, so it's stuck at 50%
19:15 and you can see that power is very quickly falling away.
19:18 So yeah, look, I think it is fine for what it is
19:21 and it handles surprisingly well
19:23 thanks to that center of gravity,
19:24 but you're not gonna be setting
19:25 any land speed records anytime soon.
19:28 On the visibility front,
19:31 I can see clearly down the front there, which is great.
19:33 Huge wing mirrors there,
19:35 and I can see kind of out the back,
19:37 you probably wanna be getting like a digital rear view mirror
19:40 or something like that,
19:41 'cause if you do have equipment in the back there,
19:43 you're not gonna be able to see anything out the back.
19:45 Okay, time to do a little bit of performance testing.
19:52 We're gonna see how quickly the E-Transit
19:55 will do 120 Ks an hour,
19:57 so we can get our 80 to 120 number
19:59 and also how quickly it stops from 100.
20:02 So I think I'm gonna disable traction control
20:06 just so we can get a nice clean start.
20:09 I don't think we're at risk of it spinning up here at all,
20:12 but anyway, I'll turn it off just to be on the safe side.
20:15 There's no sport mode, so here we go.
20:18 Up some revs.
20:19 And away we go, so quiet.
20:23 Okay, so.
20:25 There's 100.
20:29 God, it is windy out there,
20:30 it's throwing us around everywhere.
20:33 And there's 120, and come to a stop.
20:38 Wow, it needs a fair bit of time to get to 120.
20:41 All right, I'll just wait till we're pulled up.
20:43 Okay, let's have a little sticky beak.
20:48 See how we go.
20:50 So, zero to 100, 10 seconds dead flat,
20:54 which is not too bad, and 80 to 120, eight seconds.
20:58 So it does show you that if you are overtaking,
21:00 this is gonna take a fair bit of a run-up,
21:03 and this is when it's totally unladen.
21:05 So yeah, if you do jam this full of stuff,
21:08 it is going to be significantly slower.
21:10 Let's head back and do a break from 100.
21:12 Okay, time for our break from 100.
21:16 Let's wind up a bit of speed here.
21:18 Alrighty, let's go.
21:21 It'll be interesting to see how quickly this pulls up,
21:24 given its size.
21:26 There's 100, and that's our marker.
21:29 Oh, that actually felt pretty nice and strong.
21:39 So 3.21 seconds, 42.69 metres.
21:43 Again, I'm gonna refer to the Ranger Raptor,
21:45 which we brake tested as well from 100,
21:48 and I know that it was slightly damp,
21:49 but that was over 50 metres.
21:50 So an enormous van takes 10 metres less room
21:53 to stop from 100 than a Ranger Raptor does,
21:56 which is just ridiculous.
21:59 Now, the moment you've all been waiting for,
22:00 how quickly will the e-transit go in reverse?
22:05 Here we go.
22:06 (engine rumbling)
22:09 What is going on there?
22:12 (laughs)
22:14 I don't know if there's something wrong.
22:16 No, that's maximum speed,
22:18 nine kilometres an hour in reverse.
22:21 That is insanely slow.
22:24 Yeah, I know that these aren't meant to be rocket ships
22:26 in reverse, but nine kilometres an hour
22:28 will take you forever to reverse into anywhere.
22:30 (upbeat music)
22:33 (engine rumbling)
22:36 Okay, so the Ford e-transit.
22:40 Like I said, we didn't have pricing,
22:41 which meant I couldn't really do an outro.
22:43 And right now we're in the middle of a massive SUV test
22:47 at the moment.
22:48 We're doing some towing and stuff.
22:49 So make sure you subscribe
22:50 if you wanna see when that goes live.
22:51 Now, what about the Ford e-transit?
22:53 Look, I think that as a driver's vehicle,
22:55 it's actually pretty good.
22:56 It's nice and quiet.
22:58 They've packaged everything incredibly well
23:00 when you consider that there is no intrusion
23:02 into your cargo bay.
23:04 It is sort of just a normal van to drive.
23:07 It is expensive though.
23:08 And this is ultimately where I reckon these vans
23:10 are really not gonna make a great deal of sense.
23:11 It's over a hundred grand.
23:13 The LDV version of their van, which is electric,
23:16 is over $115,000,
23:18 with a lack of government subsidies here as well.
23:21 I just don't know why you would spend
23:22 such a huge amount of money above and beyond
23:24 a regular internal combustion version at the moment.
23:27 So that may change in the future.
23:28 It may change as battery technology gets better.
23:30 But at this time,
23:31 it just doesn't make sense financially for it.
23:33 So let me know in the comments section below,
23:35 even though this is a good vehicle and it drives well
23:38 and you don't really compromise too much
23:41 with the electric drivetrain,
23:42 would you buy one?
23:43 And how do you justify the big jump up in price?
23:46 I'm really keen to find out.
