00:00 G'day, I'm Paul and I want to talk about how much I love a fist.
00:02 No, no, no, that sounds really bad.
00:04 I want to talk about how much I love THE fist.
00:06 No, that also sounds bad.
00:08 I want to talk about how much I love THIS fist.
00:10 I'll explain why it's called a fist.
00:12 So, the Ford Fiesta ST is more affectionately known as the fist.
00:16 And this has finally arrived in Australia.
00:19 It was released in Europe in 2018 and because Australia and everything is so far behind,
00:24 it's only just landed here because we were waiting for safety tech and that kind of stuff.
00:27 Price has gone up over the previous one.
00:29 It's now $32,000 just under.
00:32 So, it is a lot more expensive, but it is a whole lot more car.
00:36 And today, I want to see whether it is actually worth the money.
00:39 Now, you can skip ahead in this video if you want by using the time codes up there.
00:42 Or if you are on YouTube, scroll down and you'll see links that you can jump ahead to other parts of the video.
00:48 And please don't forget to hit the subscribe button and the bell icon as well,
00:51 so you can stay on top of everything that we're driving.
00:54 Let's talk styling.
00:55 How good does this look?
00:56 I am in love with the design.
00:58 Hot hatch needs to look hot and I reckon they've absolutely nailed it with the Fiesta ST.
01:02 In terms of dimensions, it's about the same as the last one.
01:05 So, there's no big changes here.
01:07 Check out those wheels though.
01:08 These are fantastic.
01:09 18-inch alloy wheels.
01:10 I love the way that it's like a shaved face.
01:12 It's almost like they've got this big alloy wheel and just run a blade through it and then installed it on the car.
01:17 They will be diabolical against kerbs.
01:19 So, please be very careful.
01:20 You do have a little bit of lip there with the Michelin Pilot Sport.
01:23 So, 18-inch alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.
01:26 It is a really good package.
01:27 The brakes are the same as the outgoing ones.
01:29 They've now been painted red, but effectively they're the same size and do the same thing as the last Fiesta ST.
01:35 Look at this.
01:36 You're going to know you're coming up against a Fiesta ST if it's approaching you,
01:40 because this LED beam here, the daytime running light, looks sensational.
01:44 It's like a big square and you can see it coming from a mile away.
01:47 LED headlights as well.
01:49 I love this colour offset too.
01:50 So, you can get the Fiesta ST in a number of colours.
01:52 I love the blue that it's offered in, but have a look at this shadow chrome sort of plastic grille.
01:57 It offsets with that colour beautifully.
01:59 So, it really gives this an aggressive look at the front end and kind of splits up all the red or all the different colour that you're choosing.
02:06 And have a look at this intercooler exposed down the bottom there.
02:09 That is some serious stuff and reminds you that this is a very, very potent car.
02:14 Let's have a look at the back.
02:15 I actually really like the LED lighting design at the back.
02:19 By the way, five door only for Australia.
02:21 We won't be getting the three door, which is Europe.
02:23 Also made in Germany.
02:24 Dual exhaust pipes there.
02:26 LED lights tucked into there.
02:28 So, this again will make this car stand out as you're following it.
02:32 A little bit of a boot lip spoiler built into there.
02:35 Antenna as well.
02:36 It is a sensational looking car and I'm keen to see what you think compared to the last Fiesta ST.
02:41 Let me know in the comments below whether you think this is as good looking, is it worse looking and which colour would you get it in?
02:47 I'm really liking this red.
02:49 Before we get to interior styling, I thought the door was broken.
02:52 Every time I closed it I could hear something loose inside the door and I thought, "Uh-oh, this isn't good news. It's already not working."
03:00 But it's actually a really clever feature.
03:02 It was first introduced, I believe, on the Ford Focus years and years ago.
03:06 But then it was popularised by Skoda with the Kodiaq.
03:08 When you close the door, there's a little rod that pushes a protector on the edge of the door.
03:15 So that means if you have anyone like my wife who rushes out of a car whenever it's near a wall, they're not going to whack the door into the wall.
03:23 That is an absolutely awesome feature and it exists on both the front and rear doors.
03:27 So keep an eye out for that.
03:28 Now, I want to quickly reply to an Instagram question here from @zoommatt.
03:33 "Is it an improvement over the previous version?"
03:36 So, that is a good question.
03:39 I'm going to say yes it is.
03:41 And mainly because of that, that's Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system.
03:45 Everything is far more premium here.
03:47 You've got a cracking Bang & Olufsen sound system as well.
03:50 So it is a big step forward and it justifies the extra price as well.
03:54 Let's chat about the styling here.
03:56 This is sensational.
03:57 This is a massive, massive step forward from where it was.
04:00 And yes, it is a $4,000 or $5,000 price increase in Australia.
04:03 But it is justified.
04:05 The old one, if you remember, had the screen at the top and it was very much a base model Fiesta.
04:10 Just tarted up a little bit.
04:12 This, on the other hand, is great.
04:13 You've got these awesome looking Recaro seats.
04:15 Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system.
04:17 That is super high-res.
04:18 We'll go into a bit more detail in that in just a second.
04:21 So, it presents beautifully.
04:23 But the question is, how soft is that dashboard?
04:26 We've got our hardness tester here.
04:27 It measures from 0 to 100.
04:29 0 being softest and 100 being hardest.
04:31 I'm going to crack that thing open.
04:32 There is a bit of springiness to that dashboard.
04:36 So, let's see how that goes.
04:37 Hey, that's not bad.
04:39 65 on the hardness scale.
04:41 That's pretty good.
04:42 And the armrest, oh, 27.
04:46 That is pretty impressive.
04:48 So, this is no longer the cheap and nasty version of the small hot hatch range.
04:52 This is really nicely presented with a fantastic steering wheel as well.
04:56 It just makes you want to get in and drive it.
04:58 Let's chat infotainment.
04:59 I don't know about you guys, but I'm a massive tech nerd.
05:02 I love high-tech stuff.
05:03 And if I'm buying a car, it needs to have a good infotainment system.
05:06 That's part of the reason I bought the Supra, because it uses BMW's infotainment system and not Toyota's.
05:12 And why I bought the Tesla, because they are tech leaders.
05:14 I reckon Ford is very close to the top there.
05:17 They use a system called Sync.
05:19 And we're currently at Sync 3, which is the latest.
05:21 And it's just received a big software upgrade.
05:24 So, I want to walk you through the infotainment system, how it works, and some of the benefits of it.
05:28 And this comes standard on the Fiesta ST and a number of new Ford products as well.
05:33 This is the 8-inch screen.
05:34 It is super high resolution.
05:35 And the home screen looks like this.
05:37 You've got shortcut buttons down the bottom.
05:38 And then you have boxes to select things as you go.
05:41 The other cool thing is down here you also have shortcut buttons.
05:44 But they're to critical functions that you'll often be fumbling for and don't want to spend time focusing on.
05:50 So, for example, this button here opens up your sound settings.
05:53 So, if you need more bass out of that B&O sound system, you can configure everything as you go.
05:57 And this is my other favourite button.
05:59 One push of that puts it into Calm mode.
06:01 Calm mode is just a clock and the date plus your mobile reception.
06:05 Another push of that will kill the screen altogether.
06:08 And that means it's handy if you're at the drive-in movies or something like that.
06:11 A lot of manufacturers don't have screens that work for drive-in movies.
06:15 They just keep coming back on, which is really frustrating.
06:18 And let me know in the comments below whether a good infotainment system is actually something that you desperately desire in your next new car.
06:25 Let's go through the menus here.
06:27 So, Audio menu is where you're going to find AM, FM and DAB+ digital radio.
06:32 You can save all your stations down here.
06:34 Then you can access the rest of the stations on the DAB bands through the Stations button.
06:38 But there's something I really don't like here.
06:40 They're broken up into ensembles.
06:43 Now, that is basically layman's terms, effectively, for the different bands of DAB radio.
06:49 To get to other stations, you need to flick through the ensembles to find them.
06:53 So, that can be really distracting while you're driving.
06:55 And it's something that I think they really need to fix.
06:58 Just have them all on the one screen.
07:00 Or divide them up a little smarter. I don't know.
07:02 But aside from that, everything else is very straightforward.
07:04 You set your favorites down at the bottom.
07:06 You can set a whole stack of them down there as well.
07:08 There's no real limit to how much configuration you can do there.
07:11 If we jump over to Phone, this is also what I like with this system.
07:14 You can instantly access features like Do Not Disturb.
07:16 So, if I don't want to be disturbed while I'm driving or there's something I need to concentrate on,
07:21 one push of that means no phone calls or messages come through this screen.
07:24 I can also have text messages displayed on the screen.
07:27 And I have instant access to Siri, which is over Bluetooth.
07:30 So, you don't even need to have the phone paired with a cable through Apple CarPlay
07:34 or the Android Auto system to get access to your phone's voice recognition.
07:38 It's also backed up by a voice recognition system on the car itself.
07:42 So, this is a really clever setup.
07:44 I love the way they've got that configured.
07:46 Navigation. This is yet another example of how a high-res screen displays maps effectively.
07:52 They're all super easy to read. You've got traffic built into there as well.
07:55 Accessing addresses is very straightforward.
07:58 You can also change the way the screen is displayed in terms of what's split,
08:01 whether you see the map or your navigation items, etc.
08:04 Another really handy feature, if you're ever involved in an accident,
08:07 or rather if you ever turn up to an accident or need to direct emergency services anywhere,
08:11 you can instantly click Where Am I?
08:13 And using GPS coordinates, you can tell emergency services exactly where you are.
08:17 So, this is a very handy feature.
08:19 And hopefully you never have to use it, but you know that it is there.
08:22 You can search through points of interest, favourites, set a home and a work address as well.
08:26 So, it's a very clever system and very easy to use.
08:29 If you do need to type an address in manually,
08:31 it's simply a case of using the keyboard on the screen.
08:34 All works very quickly as well.
08:36 Let's jump over to the next menu, which is mobile apps.
08:39 You can download apps onto your phone that are sync compatible.
08:42 I kind of don't really bother with any of that stuff because the system itself is great.
08:47 And then if you do need any extra functionality,
08:49 you simply pair your phone with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto,
08:52 and that will simply give you that extended functionality of your phone.
08:55 Over on the settings menu is where you're going to find the rest of the settings for the car.
08:58 These are all pretty straightforward.
09:00 The sound menu, which you access through a button as well.
09:02 Settings for your digital radio navigation, whether it uses toll roads or not,
09:06 and the mobile apps that you can download.
09:08 But there's something really clever here.
09:10 Let's jump over things actually. Emergency assistance.
09:12 If the car's ever involved in a serious accident,
09:14 it will automatically dial emergency services so that they can send assistance if required.
09:19 So that's if the car rolls over, if airbags are deployed,
09:22 it will start dialing that virtually immediately so that you will get help as quick as possible.
09:27 So that is a fantastic feature.
09:28 You've also got valet mode.
09:30 So if you ever drop your car off to the hotel,
09:32 you need to leave it with the valet and you don't want them going through your saucy text messages
09:36 or perhaps your contacts or your navigation addresses,
09:39 you simply set a valet mode and all they'll be able to do is just see a screen.
09:42 They won't really have any access to all your personal details.
09:45 Wi-Fi. That's another great function as well.
09:47 All the updates for the car are supplied over Wi-Fi.
09:49 So when you park it in the garage at home, you can connect to your Wi-Fi network.
09:52 Whenever it's parked there, it'll look for updates and make sure the system is always fully functioning.
09:57 Let me know in the comments below whether you have any questions about Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system.
10:02 Anyway, let's talk about what you're getting in this car.
10:05 And you're getting quite a lot for such a pint-sized car.
10:08 The Ford PR guy told me this and I thought it was a little bit funny and I'll share it with you.
10:12 It's Rally Sweden ready because you get a heated steering wheel, you get a heated windscreen.
10:17 Now, it's going to be a little tricky to see, but Eagle's going to show you an overlay here.
10:21 Inside the windscreen, there are tiny little heating elements
10:25 so that if you do decide to drive this through Rally Sweden,
10:29 your windscreen will never be covered in ice.
10:31 Heated seats as well. So these are all features you'd never expect on a car like this.
10:35 In terms of the other equipment that you're getting, you've got a cracking Bang & Olufsen sound system, 10 speakers.
10:41 It is really impressive for such a small cabin.
10:43 It's very immersive and you're hearing everything, which is cool.
10:46 Down here, you have single zone automatic climate control.
10:49 That works really well. It's all very straightforward to use.
10:52 And guess what? There are no blank buttons here,
10:54 which means you are getting every single feature they could possibly think of.
10:57 If you go down here, there is an interesting little point here.
11:01 And I'm going to reply to one of the questions that I got on Instagram.
11:05 It is from dpi_12c. I love some of these usernames.
11:11 The question is, is this going to be an automatic option?
11:15 Well, unfortunately not. This is going to be manual only.
11:20 Or fortunately, I think this is a far more pure system, which means you get three pedals.
11:23 Ford isn't working on an automatic version, so it is going to be manual only.
11:28 In terms of safety equipment, this car is really well equipped.
11:31 Up here, you've got autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
11:35 That is low and high speed, so that is a very well equipped system.
11:39 Rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and then ahead of the driver here,
11:43 you also have a little screen that has the trip computer and all the assistance functions,
11:46 plus activation for launch control, which I'm going to show you later on.
11:50 We'll see if that actually works well.
11:51 On the steering wheel, you have all the buttons for your cruise control
11:54 and also for the audio functions, plus flicking through that menu ahead of the driver.
11:58 You're also getting keyless entry and push button start. That's what the key looks like.
12:02 Cool little ST badge on the back there. So that just sits in your pocket.
12:06 You jump in and then the engine start button that pulsates at you, waiting for you to hit it.
12:10 I love the fact that the pedals have these alloy covers on them,
12:14 plus the brake and the clutch also have grip tabs on them.
12:17 So if you do want to do a bit of heel towing, you're never going to have your foot slip off the brake
12:21 as you're slowing down for a corner if it's been wet.
12:24 This thing is loaded with features, so I think you're going to be very impressed
12:27 in terms of the standard equipment. There's really only one option, which is the sunroof or the paint.
12:31 Let's talk practicality and comfort. Yep, this is a really, really comfortable cabin.
12:36 These seats are absolutely amazing.
12:38 I remember the second generation Ford Focus RS had these seats that had such a hard bolster on the side
12:45 that whenever you got in, gave you a prod on the bottom, it was really uncomfortable.
12:48 These bolsters here are really soft, so that means that you can get in,
12:52 and if you are a little bit bigger, you're not going to be assaulted by them each time you try and get in.
12:56 Steering wheel, I mentioned a little bit before, but I'm going to go into a bit more detail here.
13:00 It's the perfect size. When you grab it, it fills your entire hand.
13:04 It feels like a BMW M wheel, so it's got a lot of substance to it.
13:07 You've got a little ST badging down there. The driving position itself is really good.
13:12 You don't sit really high like the old Fiesta ST used to.
13:16 You know, you kind of felt like you were driving a bus.
13:18 This is much lower, and the driving position feels much better.
13:22 The shifter itself is a short throw. It's not super tight, but it's short enough and easy to locate the gears,
13:29 which is excellent. So from that point of view, everything here is pretty straightforward.
13:33 Storage for your phone, you've got a little pocket down there.
13:36 It only just fits my phone. It kind of bulges out of there.
13:39 You'll also find one USB port up the front, and then one in the center console as well.
13:43 Two cup holders, and I love the blue lighting down the bottom.
13:47 That kind of makes it all stand out nicely, and it makes it easier to stick your bottle in.
13:51 There's also a door pocket for the bottle as well.
13:53 You've then got this center console, which is tiny, but to be expected for a car like this.
13:58 And then the glove box is massive, so you can go dump whatever you need in there.
14:01 And there's a separate hidey hole for your manual, which means it's not eating away in space.
14:07 [grunts]
14:08 It's not exactly cavernous back here.
14:15 We're in the back seat of the Fiesta ST, and this is my normal driving position.
14:20 As you can see, my knees are very much dug into there, and I don't have any toe room at all.
14:26 So, okay, I understand that most of the people that buy this car won't care about the people in the back seat,
14:32 but it is $5 now instead of $3, so you can actually carry people if you need to.
14:36 It's kind of like a 911 where, you know, there are seats there, but you never want to use them.
14:40 So, in that respect, it is fine.
14:42 What about the rest of it, though?
14:43 You get matte pockets in the back of each seat.
14:46 The seats are beautifully textured as well. Have a look at this.
14:48 It's like an Alcantara suede type arrangement.
14:51 You've got ISOFIX points on the two outboard seats.
14:54 No center armrest, and these things kind of dig into you, but you can lift them up if you need to.
14:59 That's the headrest.
15:00 You have a light here.
15:01 No grab handles, though.
15:03 And then you have a door pocket for your drink, but getting to it requires you to sort of gymnastic your way out of there.
15:13 So, yeah, look, it is a pretty tight space, but it is to be expected.
15:17 There's also this storage pocket hole type thing down here.
15:20 So, will it fit some phones?
15:22 Here's my phone, the Max.
15:24 It sort of doesn't really fit.
15:26 I'll use Eagle's phone, the little one.
15:29 Hey, that sort of fits a little bit.
15:31 There you go.
15:32 So it's like a mobile phone holder thing.
15:35 Let's talk cargo space.
15:37 I've just noticed these winglets.
15:38 They look really cool.
15:39 So these are attached to the side of the boot lid, and this improves the air buffeting as it comes over the side of the car.
15:46 You can even see that on the spoiler that I mentioned earlier.
15:49 It's got like a little kink on it, which is pretty awesome.
15:51 So in the boot here, 311 litres of cargo space.
15:55 It's up 35 litres over the previous generation Fiesta ST.
15:58 So that is a step in the right direction.
16:01 In terms of things and little features you've got in here, I love these Velcro straps,
16:05 and I reckon you could possibly fit a fire extinguisher into there.
16:08 Then you've got hooks on the side there as well to hold bags and shopping and that kind of thing.
16:13 Under the cargo floor, you have a space saver spare tyre.
16:17 Is it going to fit our luggage, though?
16:19 Let's give this a shot.
16:21 Gee, it's a bit of a high boot lip there.
16:24 No, it's not.
16:25 So it kind of fits it up like that.
16:27 Curious to see if that actually closes.
16:29 Laptop bag in the side.
16:31 That fits nicely.
16:32 All right, will it close?
16:35 Oh, look at that.
16:36 That fits perfectly.
16:37 But what if you have something bigger?
16:39 I'm going to show you what you can do here.
16:41 Get rid of this parcel shelf without breaking it, preferably.
16:48 And at the same time, drop these seats.
16:53 That parcel shelf then goes out of the way.
16:56 You can even throw it up there if you want.
16:58 That thing gives you more room for the luggage and you can actually just start loading whatever you want in there.
17:03 So it is a pretty versatile space.
17:05 It's kind of like a really fast minivan.
17:09 All righty, before we go for a drive, I want to go through a bit of nerd talk about the suspension and why it's unique in this car compared to other cars in the segment.
17:18 Up the front, there's a McPherson strut, which is fairly straightforward.
17:21 But in addition to that, there's a 22.5 mm anti-roll bar and then a Teneco twin-tube damper.
17:27 It's an RC1 type.
17:29 And the difference there is they've been able to tune it for low and high frequency.
17:32 So you get some of the benefits of an adaptively damped suspension system without all the control hardware and cabling that comes associated with such a system.
17:40 Then at the back of the car, there's a torsion beam or also known as a twist beam, depending on where you are in the world at the moment.
17:47 And then in addition to that, instead of using a Watts linkage, they've gone with a tow correcting bush and force vectoring springs along with a monotube Teneco damper.
17:56 So the advantage of this system is better lateral load without the need for an anti-roll bar.
18:01 It also means that you don't get the effects of lift-off oversteer anywhere near as much with that kind of setup.
18:07 So it gives the car an overall better feel without having all of that control hardware that you'd need for an adaptive damping suspension setup.
18:16 This is the moment I've been waiting for. We're behind the wheel of the Fiesta ST now.
18:21 First impressions.
18:23 The suspension feels thick.
18:26 And I don't mean thick as in, you know, the literal term. I mean thick as in gangster thick.
18:32 It's kind of got some bulkiness to it, but it's not overly firm.
18:36 The Ford Focus RS, when you put that into sport mode, it literally dislocates your back.
18:41 This is, I don't know, sporty, but on the comfortable side of sporty.
18:46 So you still feel everything, but it's not back-jarring.
18:49 And that is thanks to those dampers that I mentioned earlier.
18:52 What about the noise?
18:54 The noise is an interesting thing. We've actually got a question from Ashan.
18:57 Does the three-cylinder lose character compared to the four-cylinder?
19:01 The answer is no, because it has a unique sound.
19:04 Have a listen to this. Every three-cylinder has that gnarly, gnarly note to it, and this is no different.
19:11 It feels completely different to the four-banger.
19:13 So under the bonnet now, instead of the old four-cylinder, is a three-cylinder turbocharged petrol.
19:24 147 kilowatts of power, 290 newton metres of torque.
19:29 Now that's an important number because this car doesn't weigh much.
19:32 1262 kilos. So having a car that pumps out 290 newton metres of torque, weighing just that much,
19:39 means it is really, really characterful.
19:42 So let me show you what I mean. We've got ourselves a nice set of corners here.
19:45 Second gear. Oh man, the steering is so direct. This is fantastic.
19:51 So just quickly as well, you've got three driving modes to choose from.
19:54 You have normal, which is just normal driving.
19:57 Sport, which adds a little bit of cracking and popping to the exhaust.
20:01 And then you have racetrack, which limits stability control and makes this even more raucous and fun-inducing.
20:08 But there's also a launch control mode, which I'll show you in a second, and that helps you get off the line in a hurry.
20:13 This is where things get a little bit more fun.
20:16 And this is where that 290 newton metres of torque really works, because it weighs barely anything.
20:21 That means you can really throw it around and have some fun with it.
20:24 It has a Quaife mechanical LSD.
20:27 I mean, that is unheard of in a car this size.
20:30 And it doubles with torque vectoring on the front wheels to give you just insane amounts of grip and traction.
20:37 It is so damn impressive.
20:40 And as the speed picks up, that suspension is working absolutely perfectly with the rest of the body.
20:46 Holy crap, this thing is fast.
20:50 Oh man, this thing is so much fun.
20:53 I mentioned earlier that you've got plenty of space in that pedal box as well, so you can really have some fun there with the gears and heel towing too.
21:01 The brakes are really nice and responsive.
21:04 So despite the fact they are the same as the outgoing brakes, they still provide plenty of bite and assurance.
21:11 This engine is so responsive, you will never think of a three-cylinder the same way again.
21:18 Okay, did you know this has the fastest steering rack of any Ford Performance product?
21:23 So that is pretty impressive when you consider the size of this.
21:26 And that's important because the wheels at the front are doing all the hard work.
21:30 They're doing the driving, they're doing the steering, so the steering needs to be absolutely precise.
21:35 I love the weight through the wheel.
21:37 It feels really confident all the time, and I know exactly what it's doing.
21:41 It is a really, really impressive setup.
21:43 This whole package is working so beautifully in concert.
21:47 Everything just works really nicely together.
21:51 That heel towing is easy.
21:53 Right out there to redline.
21:55 Second gear is where it's at in this car, and this LSD is giving it so much traction.
22:02 This is so bloody cool.
22:05 Okay, question from @shifty42 on Instagram.
22:09 Does the exhaust crackle and pop?
22:11 Yes, have a listen to this. We'll go back to second gear.
22:14 You can hear it just firing out the exhaust.
22:18 So bloody cool.
22:19 Let's expand a little bit on the exhaust sound.
22:26 Most of it's real, so it's got a bimodal exhaust, and it does the cracks and the pops.
22:31 That's all fine, but there's a little bit of fakery in the cabin here.
22:34 So there is plumbed exhaust note from the engine, and that is that raspy three-cylinder noise that you get.
22:41 It's not all real, which is a shame, but it gives you a bit more character inside the cabin,
22:45 and when you do want to go for a squirt, it makes it sound like it's going a whole lot faster than it is.
22:49 When you are done having a blast through the hills, the car is interesting.
22:55 So it's comfortable enough.
22:57 It is still pretty firm, and that's just something you're going to have to live with,
23:00 because there isn't too much adjustability in those dampers there.
23:04 But it is worth keeping in mind that it is quiet enough.
23:07 The Michelin Pilot Sport tyres are a little bit noisy on course-trip roads, but it's quiet enough,
23:12 and you'll get used to the firmness.
23:14 It's one of those things, if you go from a soft and supple car to something firm, it feels really firm.
23:19 But if this is your only car or your daily, and you could easily live with this as a daily,
23:23 it's very straightforward and easy to drive.
23:25 Visibility is excellent out the cabin.
23:28 So front, I can see everything.
23:30 Out the sides, the wing mirrors are big enough.
23:32 I've got blind spot monitoring and all that kind of equipment.
23:34 At the back, plenty of visibility there too.
23:37 So as a package, this is a car you can drive to and from work and then to the racetrack on the weekend.
23:42 So Ford claims 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds.
23:48 For the Fist, I want to see how close we can get to that.
23:51 Keep in mind as well that from second to third, that happens at 90km/h.
23:55 So the car actually feels much quicker than a 6.5-second car, because you've got that extra gear shift.
23:59 So I'm in Sport mode.
24:01 We've got our brand new V-Box there as well, so we'll see how this goes.
24:05 A little bit of wheel slip.
24:08 And there's third.
24:13 Okay, so how are we looking?
24:16 That is 0-100km/h in 7.2 seconds.
24:19 So it's about half a second off what Ford claims.
24:22 I didn't want to be too hard on it in terms of the gear shift,
24:24 so we'll try one more now with launch control and see if we can get any quicker.
24:28 Okay, so here we go.
24:29 Foot flat on the throttle in first.
24:31 It's holding revs at 3,000.
24:33 Feels really cool.
24:34 And then sidestep.
24:35 That was harsh.
24:38 Okay, second.
24:40 And then grabbing third, and there's 100.
24:43 That was a really harsh launch.
24:46 See if that was any quicker.
24:47 Okay, that was 0-100km/h in 7 seconds, dead flat.
24:52 So still half a second off, but much closer.
24:55 And man, this thing just feels so quick.
24:57 If it wasn't for that 2-3 shift, I reckon this would be a much quicker car on paper.
25:01 Okay, you're kind of waiting for the negatives now, right?
25:05 I've got a bit of a problem.
25:07 There aren't any negatives, really, that I can think of.
25:10 This car is absolutely sensational.
25:12 I can't get enough of it.
25:13 I can't get the smile off my face.
25:15 It sounds good.
25:16 It looks really nice and masculine.
25:18 The last Fiesta kind of looked a little bit funny.
25:20 This one is head and shoulders above it.
25:22 I love the wheels.
25:23 I love the Ford Performance treatment.
25:24 And it feels like it has a harder edge than the rest of the competitors.
25:26 Suzuki Swift Sport, Polo GTI, they're both a little soft compared to this.
25:30 This really just takes it to another level.
25:32 And it's a smile-inducing car, so if you want a hot hatch that you can live with daily,
25:36 this is the one you want to go for.
25:37 It is slightly harder than something like a Polo GTI for day-to-day living,
25:41 but outside of that, it ticks all the right boxes in terms of features and performance.
25:45 So, yeah, it's got me sold.
25:47 In fact, I think I might buy one.
25:49 I don't know. I've got to convince the wife first.
25:50 If you enjoyed this video, despite it not having very many negatives,
25:53 I'd love if you could hit the like button.
25:55 Also, subscribe and press the bell icon as well.
25:58 That'll tell you every single time we publish a new video.
26:01 Also, while you're at it, in the comments below, did you buy one of these?
26:04 I know it's only just landed in Australia, but it's been out a little while now in Europe.
26:07 I'm keen to see what you think of it as a long-term prospect
26:09 and what it is like to live with day-to-day.
26:11 And if you ordered one in Australia, what colour did you go for?
26:14 I'm keen to see what everyone is kind of picking there.
26:16 You can read the full review at carexpert.com.au.
26:20 And until next time, take it easy.
26:22 Kill that mozzie just on your door.
26:24 You want to kill it though, so it doesn't start sucking your blood
26:28 and transmitting Zika to your ar...
26:30 What was that from?
26:35 A disgusting mosquito trying to eat us alive here.
26:38 Godspeed.
26:39 (laughing)
