#hyundai #ioniq6 #review
Transcript
00:00 G'day, I'm Paul.
00:00 So Hyundai is continuing its EV rollout with the Ioniq 6.
00:05 It's like a sedan version of the Ioniq 5.
00:08 I actually have a Ioniq 6 NFT in my collection.
00:12 This competes with things like the Tesla Model 3,
00:16 the Polestar 2.
00:17 Yeah, it's kind of an interesting shape.
00:20 I think it's kind of like a sedan,
00:22 swoopy, coupe-style thing.
00:24 And it's priced at $74,000.
00:27 This is the entry-level version called the Dynamic.
00:29 Today, we're gonna do a detailed review of this car.
00:31 So if you do wanna skip ahead to other parts of this review,
00:33 you can use the time codes on the screen.
00:35 For on YouTube, you can scroll down
00:36 and use the chapters below.
00:38 If you haven't done so already,
00:39 subscribe to our channel, press the bell icon.
00:41 That way you'll find out every single time
00:42 we drive a new car like this.
00:44 So let's talk about the exterior design.
00:47 You've got eight colors to pick from.
00:48 They're all free of charge, which is exciting news.
00:50 There is a matte color though,
00:51 and that'll set you back a grand.
00:53 What do you reckon about the design?
00:55 I don't know, when I saw it in pictures,
00:56 I wasn't a huge fan of it.
00:57 And design is entirely subjective,
00:59 but look here in person,
01:00 it's got some really interesting proportions.
01:02 I personally think that the back
01:04 kinda has an AU Falcon vibe to it.
01:07 I've heard 911 at the back as well.
01:09 So yeah, it's like a very interesting design.
01:11 So let's talk about some of the closer design elements though.
01:15 So big Hyundai logo up the front there.
01:16 This is a bit like the Kia logo now,
01:18 where they've shaved it off
01:19 and given it that sort of brushed aluminum finish to it.
01:23 Down the bottom here, you've got louvers
01:24 that open and close depending on the cooling requirements
01:27 of the battery system.
01:29 Little radar tucked behind there as well.
01:31 Camera there and front parking sensors as well.
01:34 This kinda continues the theme of the pixel LEDs
01:36 that we've seen on the Ioniq 5.
01:38 You can see those along the bottom there.
01:39 And then full LED lights on the top section as well.
01:43 It is quite a sleek design.
01:45 And the reason for that is,
01:46 is because it has a 0.21 coefficient of drag,
01:49 which is incredibly good.
01:51 It gives this car a bit more efficiency
01:53 and it means that it's not sort of facing
01:55 as much wind resistance as some of the other cars,
01:57 including the Ioniq 5.
01:59 Let's have a look at the wheels around the side here.
02:01 So these are pretty chubby tires.
02:03 So 18 inch alloy wheels.
02:05 You can see the profile on that 55 profile is pretty big.
02:08 Very aero-oriented wheels too.
02:10 So a machined finish on the outside,
02:11 piano black on the inside there.
02:13 It means that this is getting as much benefit as it can
02:17 from being slippery as it carves through the air.
02:19 Little air vent there that pops out from the front too.
02:22 And these are EV specific tires as well.
02:25 The entry level here is rear wheel drive only.
02:27 So it is really just engineered
02:29 for getting as much range as you can.
02:31 And the range is something like just over 600 kilometres,
02:34 which is pretty impressive.
02:35 At the top here, you have more of that pixel LED setup
02:38 for the indicator.
02:40 Camera there in the wing mirror for the 360 camera.
02:43 Door handles similar to the Ioniq 5,
02:45 where they tuck in when they're not in use.
02:46 Privacy glass, shark fin aerial.
02:49 Thing I love about this,
02:50 if you look at it from the side angle, it's see-through.
02:52 So you can actually see the elements inside that,
02:55 which I reckon is pretty damn cool.
02:56 And then come around to the back here.
02:58 Have a look at the back.
03:00 It's just incredible.
03:01 There is so much going on here.
03:04 So let's start at the top here.
03:05 You've got two sets of spoilers.
03:07 You've got this top one here
03:09 that gives the air somewhere to go.
03:11 Then you've got a second one here as well,
03:13 potentially for a bit of downforce.
03:15 It is just such a fascinating setup.
03:17 And when you see it here in person,
03:19 it does look quite busy, but it kind of works.
03:22 You've got the LED strip that runs along the back here,
03:24 similar to the 911 with that pixel LED setup.
03:27 A little further down here,
03:28 you have reverse lights and a reflector,
03:31 and also these vertical struts as well
03:33 with some piano black diffuser elements
03:35 down the bottom there too.
03:36 You've got a camera built into here
03:38 and then a boot button here as well.
03:40 So let me know what you reckon about the design.
03:43 Do you think it looks good?
03:45 Do you think it's a bit over the top?
03:46 I am very keen to see what you think.
03:48 So let me know in the comment section below.
03:50 Okay, so we're in the IONIQ 6.
03:52 Let's start off with the key.
03:53 Now, this is interesting.
03:55 I'll tell you why in a second.
03:55 You've got lock, unlock, and hold there to remote start.
04:00 I mean, you've got a button for the boot
04:01 and then a remote parking function as well.
04:03 Blank on the back, it's a proximity sensing key,
04:05 so you can leave that in your pocket,
04:07 use the push button start to kick things on.
04:09 Now, the reason this is so interesting
04:11 is because I saw this key and I thought,
04:12 it's the weirdest looking key.
04:14 Just seems bizarre.
04:15 But then it all starts to make sense
04:18 when you tilt it that way.
04:19 And it's the Hyundai H just there.
04:21 So yeah, I like that they've actually thought about that.
04:23 I still think it looks a bit strange,
04:25 but there is some thought put into that, which is great.
04:28 What about the design in here?
04:30 Look, it is actually interesting
04:31 because normally I would, I don't know,
04:34 complain a little bit.
04:35 Well, some of you would accuse me
04:36 of complaining a little bit about hard touch surfaces,
04:39 but I actually really like the center here.
04:41 So this is all absolutely rock solid,
04:44 but the material is so interesting.
04:46 It's not piano black.
04:48 It's not any of that annoying stuff,
04:50 but it looks really cool.
04:52 It's got a great texture to it.
04:53 And this car feels futuristic.
04:56 I don't know, just sitting here,
04:57 everything looks really nice and cool.
04:58 And when I say this is a Model 3 competitor,
05:02 it is more expensive than a Model 3,
05:04 but to me, it actually just looks
05:06 and feels a whole lot nicer.
05:08 It has a bit of character to it.
05:09 It's not just a boring interior
05:10 with a screen in the center.
05:12 This actually looks and feels like a premium vehicle.
05:14 So yeah, let me know what you reckon
05:16 in the comment section below.
05:17 Do you think that this looks a bit weird or a bit cheap?
05:20 I'm keen for your feedback.
05:21 I do like as well, when you switch the car on at night,
05:24 you get these pulses of lights
05:26 that flick across the dashboard here.
05:28 So they've got a strong LED game as well.
05:30 I just don't know that I'd be going
05:31 for this white colored interior.
05:34 So anyway, in terms of your touch points though,
05:37 all of this stuff is pretty firm to the touch.
05:39 It is softer there, but still quite firm
05:41 and softer on the door.
05:43 Again, how firm is it?
05:45 We've got our durometer.
05:46 We've tested the main surfaces in this cabin.
05:49 If you wanna see how this car compares
05:51 to other cars that we've tested before,
05:52 look at the link in the description below.
05:54 Now, build quality, what is that like?
05:57 A little bit wonky there in the center
05:58 on that floating console.
06:00 The rest actually feels pretty good.
06:02 And our door slam.
06:03 Sounds good.
06:07 So let's talk infotainment.
06:08 Ahead of the driver, you have a 12.3 inch display
06:11 and then the infotainment screen
06:13 is a 12.3 inch display as well.
06:14 So infotainment is all a touchscreen.
06:17 Ahead of the driver,
06:18 it is all controlled using the steering wheel controls.
06:21 Look, this infotainment system is pretty good.
06:23 It's very high resolution, the screen.
06:25 So when you are looking at it,
06:26 everything looks nice and sharp and crisp as well.
06:29 In addition to that, you have AM/FM, DAB, digital radio,
06:33 and that's all plumbed through an eight speaker
06:35 Bose branded sound system.
06:37 The sound system is pretty good.
06:39 Hyundai has now fitted this with a feature
06:41 called Blue Link as well.
06:42 So it's the remote connectivity technology.
06:44 The car has an embedded SIM
06:46 and you're able to connect to the car using your phone.
06:49 You're able to then check the status of the car,
06:51 set temperatures and all that kind of thing remotely.
06:54 You also get an SOS button up here as well
06:56 to call emergency services if you do run into any dramas.
06:59 Couple of the other cool features here that I like as well,
07:01 the voice memo, so you can record messages to yourself
07:04 if you come up with great ideas while you're driving.
07:06 A valet mode so that all of your personal features
07:11 are not on display.
07:12 You've got a quiet mode,
07:13 so sound is only routed through the front of the vehicle.
07:16 Here, if you do have kids asleep in the back there,
07:18 you then also have a manual built into the car as well.
07:22 Now, in terms of smartphone mirroring,
07:24 you have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
07:26 Both of those are white.
07:28 I'll show you what Apple CarPlay looks like first.
07:30 So there it is there, full screen integration,
07:33 really nice and sharp, quick and easy to use as well.
07:37 And this is Android Auto.
07:38 So now actually fills up the screen.
07:41 We've had issues previously with Hyundai and Android Auto
07:44 where it hasn't filled up the screen properly.
07:45 So that looks really good.
07:47 So ahead of the driver, you have the 12.3 inch display.
07:50 You can configure a little bit of this,
07:51 but it's all sort of pretty straightforward.
07:53 It does change the style
07:55 when you move through different drive modes,
07:56 and I'll show you what that all sort of looks like
07:58 when we go for a bit of a drive.
07:59 You have a head up display ahead of the driver as well,
08:01 which makes it easy to register your speed
08:04 while you're out cruising the roads in your iNX6.
08:07 Okay, let's talk safety.
08:08 So you have autonomous emergency braking
08:10 with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
08:13 You have a junction assistant.
08:14 So if you try and drive across traffic
08:17 that's coming towards you, it'll slam the brakes on for you.
08:20 Blind spot monitor built into the wing mirror,
08:21 but also when we go for a drive,
08:23 I'm gonna show you what this looks like,
08:24 'cause when you put your indicator on,
08:25 it actually shows up with a camera there as well,
08:27 which is pretty cool.
08:28 You have an auto dimming rear vision mirror,
08:31 radar cruise control.
08:32 You have a semi-autonomous steering function,
08:34 which we'll test a little later on as well.
08:36 Rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors,
08:39 and then a 360 camera.
08:40 And I'll show you what the camera looks like.
08:42 So quality, that's actually great.
08:44 So you've got a steering wheel movement there
08:47 with those lines.
08:48 You can clearly see what's on the suitcase.
08:50 Top down view looks pretty good too.
08:52 You can then also change the way these views look.
08:55 So you've got like a trailer hitching assistant
08:57 and then a shot down the sides of the car.
08:59 You even have this 3D setup here as well
09:03 with a slightly pixelated car.
09:05 But yeah, pretty impressive camera there on the 360 setup.
09:09 This is what the horn sounds like.
09:10 (horn honking)
09:11 Let's check practicality.
09:12 And we'll start off with connectivity.
09:14 So you have a USB-A port down here.
09:17 I'll run you through this wireless charger
09:19 in just a second.
09:19 In here, you've got two USB-C ports.
09:22 Terms of storing your phone,
09:24 it can live there on the wireless charger
09:25 or you can whack it there in the cup holders.
09:27 Now, watch this.
09:28 When you do pop it on the wireless charger,
09:30 check out this bank of lights just here.
09:32 Stick it down there.
09:33 And they light up to give you an indication
09:35 that it's charging.
09:36 Just a really cool setup.
09:37 And then pixel LEDs there as well.
09:39 So yeah, very impressive setup.
09:42 Have a look at this as well
09:43 just while we're on the topic of cool things.
09:45 Just remind you of the VE Commodore.
09:48 Window switches in the center,
09:49 which is a nice little throwback to that.
09:52 In terms of storing other things,
09:54 your coffee cup, how does that go?
09:56 We'll pop that in the center here.
09:58 Fits in fine there without running the risk
10:00 of getting de-lidded.
10:01 Our water bottle fits in there as well.
10:05 Little teeth there to hold it in place.
10:07 Oh, hold on.
10:09 Just fits inside the door.
10:12 So that means our big water bottle probably won't fit.
10:16 Not even close.
10:17 What a bizarre space.
10:18 It's like really quite narrow there,
10:19 which is interesting.
10:21 In terms of other storage,
10:22 you've got this center console here,
10:24 which is quite deep.
10:25 You have this enormous space down the bottom here,
10:27 which I really love.
10:28 It's also where you're gonna find your 12-volt outlet.
10:30 And finally, you have your bucket-style glove box there too.
10:35 Okay, and comfort.
10:36 You have dual-zone automatic climate control.
10:38 You have seat heating for the front row.
10:42 You also have manual steering adjustment
10:45 with both tilt and reach.
10:47 The seats, they are electrically adjustable,
10:49 so you can go forwards, backwards.
10:51 Your backrest can go forwards, backwards.
10:53 You can lift the front of them.
10:54 You can lift the back of them.
10:55 You also have lumbar adjustment as well.
10:57 And then on the actual comfort of the seats,
10:59 they are pretty comfortable.
11:00 They're perforated as well,
11:01 which means they keep you nice and cool
11:03 while you're driving.
11:05 Just on our reach test though,
11:06 some of the stuff on this screen
11:07 is a little tricky to reach on those outer edges,
11:09 so you do need to lean forward to catch some of that.
11:12 So second row, there is actually a stack of knee room there.
11:16 Have a look at that.
11:17 So that is due to that big wheelbase.
11:19 It's funny 'cause on the outside, this looks quite small,
11:21 but there's actually a heap of room here.
11:22 There isn't a heap of toe room though.
11:24 Look at that.
11:25 My toes are wedged into that,
11:26 which is a little bit disappointing.
11:27 Headroom is okay.
11:29 My head's sort of just touching that.
11:31 So yeah.
11:32 In terms of air vents, you've got some just here.
11:35 You've got two USB-C outlets,
11:36 little storage nook down the bottom,
11:38 map pockets over here,
11:40 center armrest with two cup holders.
11:43 That's what it looks like with our bottle in there.
11:45 You can also store your bottle inside the door.
11:47 Just, it's a little bit tricky to reach that.
11:51 Actually very tricky to reach that.
11:52 In terms of other bits and pieces,
11:54 you can store your phone in here,
11:56 which I think is pretty cool.
11:57 Also down here, you're gonna find a little slot
11:59 with a PowerPoint for the vehicle to load.
12:01 And then you also have auto up and down on the windows.
12:04 Do they go all the way down?
12:06 Almost.
12:06 And finally, ISOFIX points on the two outboard seats
12:11 with three top tether points.
12:13 Okay, let's talk cargo space.
12:15 So you have a powered boot.
12:17 Press that little button there, it cracks open.
12:20 So you have 401 litres
12:22 just in the standard configuration here.
12:24 Beneath the cargo floor,
12:25 you have a little bit of storage space
12:26 plus the tyre mobility kit.
12:28 We've also got storage under the front there.
12:30 It's around 40 litres, so not a huge amount,
12:32 but can stick stuff in there if you need to.
12:35 Show you what it looks like with our bags in there.
12:36 So there's the laptop bag.
12:39 Let's drop the suitcase in.
12:41 That's actually not too bad.
12:42 It's just that load floor isn't very high.
12:44 So it'll make loading things like prams
12:46 and stuff like that a little bit tricky.
12:48 You can drop the second row though,
12:49 using these little levers here.
12:51 Once that is dropped, you can push that out of the way.
12:55 That gives you a little bit more space
12:57 to load longer items in.
12:59 Now, before we go for a drive,
13:00 I wanna show you this and just explain the EV components.
13:04 So you have both AC and DC charging.
13:07 AC charging is three phase up to 11 kilowatts.
13:10 DC charging is up to 350 kilowatts.
13:13 At the moment, it's capped at around 230 kilowatts,
13:16 but this sits on an 800 volt architecture,
13:18 which kind of future-proofs it.
13:19 Battery size is just under 80 kilowatt hours.
13:22 So it's a fairly meaty battery,
13:23 especially for a rear wheel drive variant.
13:26 That means you have a theoretical driving range
13:28 of just over 600 kilometres.
13:30 Now, what is this thing?
13:31 This is our vehicle to load.
13:33 So you actually have in there a little plug.
13:35 So it's a 15 amp plug that you can use, or 16 amp plug.
13:39 It means that you can run up to 3.6 kilowatts
13:42 worth of electricity out of the car's battery.
13:44 So you're able to plug this little guy in.
13:47 And then once that is plugged in, turn it on,
13:52 and away you go.
13:53 You have electricity that's able to run things.
13:54 So 3.6 kilowatts, what could you run?
13:57 Actually, a fair bit of stuff.
13:58 Like a typical household air conditioner
14:00 is around two kilowatts.
14:01 So that's a pretty meaty device.
14:02 So it gives you an idea of just how much current
14:04 you can actually draw from this system.
14:06 So we've just hit the road in the Ioniq 6.
14:12 Immediately, I actually just recently drove the Ioniq 5,
14:15 and this sort of actually just sits much lower to the ground.
14:19 So you do notice the differences there straight up.
14:22 The other interesting thing as well,
14:23 this seems more quieter straight out of the box as well.
14:26 So we'll get to that in just a second.
14:28 Now, let's chat about what is powering this.
14:30 So this is the entry-level version.
14:33 So it only has one electric motor,
14:34 and that's based on the rear axle.
14:36 So it's a rear-wheel drive.
14:37 That electric motor produces 168 kilowatts of power
14:41 and 350 newton meters of torque,
14:43 which is pretty sort of healthy amount.
14:45 And in addition to that,
14:47 you also have a stack of regen options here as well.
14:49 So you can go all the way from level zero,
14:51 which is coasting.
14:52 If I just roll out of the throttle, that just coasts.
14:55 Then I can go level one, two, three,
14:57 all the way to I-pedal.
14:58 And in I-pedal, it actually comes to a full stop.
15:02 But it's not like the Tesla system
15:04 where it puts the brakes on it.
15:06 It kind of just hovers there a little awkwardly,
15:08 but it sort of stops anyway.
15:11 So you get that same sort of setup that you do in Tesla
15:14 and the Nissan LEAF as well
15:16 with their version of this system.
15:18 So from that point of view, it all feels really good.
15:21 Does it do all the EV stuff?
15:22 Yeah, it does.
15:24 It doesn't feel massively powerful,
15:26 and that's the thing to keep in mind.
15:27 Off the line, it sort of gets up and moves okay,
15:30 but with a zero to 100 time of over seven seconds,
15:32 which we'll test shortly,
15:33 it's not exactly the fastest thing in the world.
15:35 So don't go buying the entry-level version of the iNX6
15:38 thinking it's going to be like a bull out of the gates.
15:41 Now let's talk energy efficiency/economy.
15:46 Hyundai's claim is actually pretty impressive,
15:51 but I can't really measure it against the claim here
15:53 'cause we had to do some topsy-turvy filming today.
15:55 It means that we did all our faster driving earlier on
15:57 and it has upset our economy figure,
15:59 but despite doing a stack of hot laps
16:01 and all of our faster filming driving,
16:04 it is consuming on average
16:05 just under 20 kilowatt hours per 100 Ks,
16:07 which is damn impressive.
16:09 When we were doing our highway run down here,
16:11 it was sitting at around 11 or 12 kilowatt hours per 100 Ks.
16:14 So it does tell you that this is a very efficient motor
16:17 and the way they've streamlined this
16:19 is actually working really well
16:20 in terms of delivering economy.
16:22 Okay, suspension.
16:23 So this is a thing that we had a lot of problems with,
16:26 with the iONIQ 5.
16:27 They fixed part of it with the suspension revision,
16:29 but because there was no local ride and handling tuning,
16:32 it wasn't amazing.
16:33 So let's dial up 130 for our sine waves.
16:36 Let's see how this feels.
16:37 Wow.
16:40 It is genuinely like a completely different car.
16:44 The body control over the sine waves there is fantastic.
16:46 And this is the thing to note,
16:48 that when you're driving a vehicle like this,
16:50 yeah, it's great to have soft suspension in and around the city
16:53 but you do want it to feel nice and gentle
16:56 when you are out on country roads
16:58 without being over the top with the body control
17:00 like you do find in the iONIQ 5.
17:01 This is fantastic.
17:02 It really sets a proper benchmark for Hyundai.
17:05 And I think they need to replicate what they've done here
17:07 with the iONIQ 5 to give it the body control it deserves
17:10 because that was much better
17:11 in terms of the way that it performed.
17:13 Okay, now our bumpy country road,
17:15 we do this at 90 Ks an hour.
17:17 You'll see all of my soft excess skin bouncing around here.
17:21 90 Ks an hour, we really get a good feel
17:23 for what this is like on our terrible surface
17:26 and our condensed sine wave over here as well.
17:28 This is sensational.
17:30 It is getting into all of those divots.
17:32 It is handling this corrugated road beautifully.
17:36 It's strange, it just feels like
17:37 a completely different company has tuned this car
17:39 compared to the iONIQ 5.
17:40 This is genuinely fantastic.
17:42 So impressed with this and it feels like it is
17:44 far better suited to Australian conditions.
17:47 Okay, let's pop this into sport mode.
17:50 We have eco, normal and sport.
17:52 I can see the steering wheel light up when we change modes.
17:55 I'm gonna have to do a little punt around our track here.
17:56 We'll see what this feels like.
17:58 It's actually not too bad, a little bit of body roll there,
18:07 but inherently you are limited somewhat
18:09 by this being a rear wheel drive.
18:12 Problem that you have is that you'll notice here
18:14 the traction control will start flashing
18:16 as we pick up speed on some of these corners.
18:19 It's the same issue we had with the Tesla Model Y as well.
18:23 When you do have just one motor supplying torque
18:27 and also doing reach in, it becomes a limiting factor
18:30 and you're switching often between reach in
18:32 and the mechanical brakes as well.
18:33 So, let's see what it feels like over our tram tracks here,
18:36 which is where Model Y struggled.
18:39 It's actually not too bad, it's doing a much better job.
18:41 I can feel the traction control biting.
18:43 Probably where something like an ELSD,
18:48 which Hyundai has, would actually serve
18:51 a far better purpose in terms of stabilising the car
18:54 and just giving it the sort of traction
18:57 it deserves mid-corner.
18:58 So, we'll just jump on the throttle up the back here,
19:00 see how this feels.
19:02 It's actually piling on speed really nicely.
19:04 So, yeah, look, it is actually a really nice performer
19:06 and I think that it handles better than a Model 3.
19:09 Like, it feels much better in terms of the way
19:11 that it's sorted through there.
19:12 So, impressive stuff there from the iONIQ 6.
19:14 Now, what about road noise?
19:18 I mentioned earlier that this does feel quieter
19:20 than the iONIQ 5, and thanks to that sort of aerodynamic design,
19:24 you have EV-specific tyres with pretty thick rubber there as well.
19:28 It actually doesn't let a lot of road noise into the cabin.
19:30 You really don't hear anything.
19:31 It is one of the quietest EVs I've driven,
19:33 which is really pleasing to see.
19:35 Now, let's talk about visibility.
19:36 So, I can see clearly down the front there,
19:38 the bonnet actually dives down a stack there.
19:40 The wing mirrors are nice and big.
19:41 Visibility out the back isn't too bad.
19:43 It's not the biggest envelope, but, you know,
19:45 it is fine for what it is.
19:47 Then, in terms of parking in and around the city,
19:49 it's actually pretty straightforward to park
19:51 because you have front and rear parking sensors,
19:53 and then, in addition to that, you have a 360 camera
19:55 that gives you great visibility around the cabin.
19:57 Now, time to do just a little bit of testing
20:02 of our semi-autonomous driving system.
20:04 So, we do this by hitting our circular track.
20:07 70km/h, it simulates a road with a bend on it.
20:10 (HONKS)
20:11 By the way, that is the most annoying thing in the world.
20:14 So, every time I get into the car,
20:16 I have to switch off the speed limit warning
20:19 'cause it thinks we're going over the speed limit,
20:21 even though we're not. So, anyway.
20:22 So, we're gonna test in the three outer lanes here,
20:25 and they all have curves,
20:27 and it basically will simulate a tighter curve out on the road,
20:30 and it dictates how much steering input the car's willing to do
20:33 while it's under its semi-autonomous steering settings.
20:36 So, we'll get to 70km/h.
20:38 There it is, just there.
20:40 And then I'll press this button here.
20:41 Get a little steering wheel appear up the top there.
20:44 When it's green, it means the car is steering for us.
20:46 So, in this first lane that we test in,
20:48 it's generally pretty straightforward.
20:50 Most manufacturers pass here.
20:52 No dramas. We're staying in the centre of the lane.
20:54 That's great. Jump over to the next lane.
20:56 So, let's have a look here.
21:00 Steering wheel is green.
21:01 We're staying centre here as well,
21:03 so it's doing a great job here.
21:04 No dramas there. Good job.
21:07 Alright, we'll jump up to this lane.
21:08 This is the one that gives most manufacturers grief.
21:11 We'll see how it goes for the Hyundai.
21:13 Can't wait for that to go green.
21:15 It's thinking about it.
21:16 It is thinking about it.
21:20 Go a little bit higher here.
21:22 Yes, it's thinking about it, but it's not loving it.
21:26 And I'll try and get a little closer to that lane.
21:32 A little closer to the top.
21:35 It's not loving this at all,
21:38 so it's not allowing the self-steering function to activate.
21:42 So, it's a pass for lane one and two,
21:44 but a fail here for lane three.
21:47 OK, let's do some performance testing.
21:52 So, according to Hyundai, it'll do 0-100 in a little over seven seconds.
21:57 So, we're going to do 0-120, so we can get our 80-120 run,
22:01 and then we're also going to do a break from 100 kph
22:03 to see how that goes.
22:05 So, here we go. I've got it in i-Pedal mode,
22:07 and I'll just mash it all the way to 120.
22:09 We'll see what happens.
22:12 It's pretty...
22:13 ..sort of pokey off the line there, and that tapers off a little bit.
22:17 So, there's 100...
22:19 ..and 120.
22:22 Alright, let's come to a stop.
22:24 Have a look at our numbers. We'll see how that went.
22:27 So, 0-100, 7.2 seconds.
22:30 I think the official number is 7.4, so we bet the official number.
22:35 80-120, 4.6 seconds.
22:37 So, that's also pretty good as well.
22:39 80-120 is the number that you want to see in terms of overtaking,
22:42 and I think that is a pretty sort of healthy figure there.
22:45 OK, time to stop from 100 to see how well this pulls up in an emergency.
22:51 Let's break our 100 kph marker there, and we've got our braking marker here.
22:55 So, 100-0, 2.9 seconds and 39.02 metres.
23:08 So, we've actually started building a table with all of these results
23:11 so you can compare cars to one another as we build that out.
23:15 So, yeah, have a look at the link in the description below
23:17 if you want to see how this performed against other cars we've tested before.
23:20 Now it's time for the test you're going to love or you hate -
23:23 our reverse acceleration test.
23:25 So, let's see how fast it'll go in reverse.
23:28 Here we go.
23:30 We'll put our locks.
23:32 52 kilometres an hour.
23:36 So, the IONIQ 6.
23:39 Look, it is, I think, a little expensive for what it is,
23:42 but when you do compare it to the Model 3,
23:44 it is just significantly more enjoyable to drive.
23:47 I feel it's a bit more engaging, the interior is nicer,
23:50 and it's just a better all-round vehicle.
23:53 It may not be as practical in terms of the space and the tech
23:57 that you're getting in the Tesla stuff,
23:59 but to me this is a really fun car to drive.
24:01 So, if you do want something that isn't a Tesla
24:03 but is still electric and interesting,
24:05 this is probably the car for you.
24:07 In terms of the downsides, yeah, it's just that packaging stuff.
24:09 I think that Hyundai really needs to work on making better use of its EV platforms.
24:13 When you look inside the front of this, there's no electric motor down there,
24:16 yet they can't package the amount of space that you even get
24:19 in something like an all-wheel drive Tesla,
24:21 let alone a rear-wheel drive one.
24:23 So, I think that's probably a point where Hyundai needs to do a little bit more work,
24:26 but outside of that, it is pretty sort of enjoyable to drive.
24:29 And the looks, well, styling is entirely subjective.
24:32 So, let me know in the comments section below,
24:34 have you bought one? What do you think of it?
24:36 How's it going? Are you enjoying it?
24:38 That is the most important part. Let me know what you reckon down there.
