00:00 G'day, I'm Paul, we are at the launch of the new Mitsubishi Triton.
00:03 Have a look at this, we're in Thailand, they've just revealed a whole stack of these and I'm
00:06 going to run you through some of the other cool ones they have on display as well.
00:09 But Triton is now longer, it's wider, it sits on a longer wheelbase as well.
00:13 New engine too, totally new from the ground up as well.
00:17 So I'm going to run you through as much of everything that I can today before we actually
00:21 get the car in Australia for a proper look and a drive as well.
00:25 Now if you haven't done so already, please make sure you subscribe to our channel, press
00:29 the bell icon as well and let's get started.
00:30 It is super noisy in here so I'm going to make do with the best that I possibly can.
00:35 Okay, so let's start with the outside.
00:38 They've basically got a couple of different design variations here.
00:41 So you've got the chrome setup, so you can see that sort of look down the front there
00:45 under the headlights.
00:46 You also have a different setup depending on the specification that darkens this section
00:50 out.
00:51 You've got full LED headlights over here, LED running lights up the top there and a
00:55 giant grille here with Mitsubishi along the top there.
00:59 Power sensor down the bottom, camera down here for the 360 camera as well.
01:03 Now this engine is all new, so 2.4-litre twin turbocharged, it makes 150 kW of power, 470
01:09 Nm of torque.
01:11 There are another couple of tunes that will be available but unlikely for Australia at
01:14 this stage and it will also launch with a six-speed automatic transmission as well.
01:19 And then they will keep going along with stuff like the Super Select four-wheel drive system
01:22 which means you can drive this two-wheel drive and also four-wheel drive high range on sealed
01:27 surfaces as well which you can't do in other vehicles in this segment.
01:30 Coming to the side, I'll show you just some of the other changes they've made as well.
01:33 So this car has a few accessories on it but you can see here with this wheel arch cladding,
01:38 depending again on which spec you go for, it's either body coloured or it's this sort
01:41 of protruding look up here.
01:43 You've got a big set of alloy wheels down here.
01:46 Now keep in mind as well that again there's different sets of tyres you can actually get
01:49 with this.
01:50 So this is on a set of Duelers which I think is what we find on the Ranger.
01:52 I have seen a Meteor one over there with a bigger set of tyres.
01:55 It even has beadlock rims on it as well which I think is a pretty cool sort of set up.
01:59 This is a highway terrain tyre.
02:01 Disc brakes up the front, drum brakes at the rear.
02:04 So Mitsubishi hasn't gone down the path of disc brakes at the rear of their vehicles
02:08 like we've seen on Ranger and the higher spec of Hilux as well.
02:12 In terms of the wheel design, it's just that sort of graphite look to it there.
02:16 And as we move down the side here, you've got yourself a set of side steps.
02:19 I have mentioned this in other vehicles like Amarok as well where they've gone down the
02:23 path of plastic here on the side steps.
02:25 So I think if you are going to be doing off-road driving, you really want something a bit meatier
02:29 than this and hopefully that's an accessory that they do end up rolling out.
02:32 Up the top here, depending again on which spec you go for, you either have chrome on
02:35 the wing mirror with the indicator built into there and then the camera on the side or you
02:40 will actually get a darker version that matches the front end of the vehicle.
02:43 So they have kind of thought of that stuff.
02:44 And have a look at these design lines as well.
02:46 So from the front there you can see as you follow the car down the side here, it sort
02:50 of sticks out nicely and these features here match the front and those rear wheel arches
02:55 as well.
02:56 I like this too, this is another accessory they've fitted here to this display car.
02:59 So that's your fuel cap just there that eats into that wheel arch guard but it also has
03:04 its own thing on the top of it which I haven't seen before, it's kind of cool.
03:07 I like this sailplane as well, so again an accessory and if you are going to be doing
03:10 off-roading and that sort of stuff, it is a pretty cool look.
03:13 Down here you can see the mention there that I made of your drum brakes.
03:17 Now in here, suspension wise, they have made some changes to the damping here.
03:20 So it is still leaf springs, they have actually elongated the dampers.
03:24 So hopefully that's going to improve the ride.
03:26 It is interesting though, I have noticed here with the damper, it's actually inboard of
03:29 the chassis rails.
03:30 What they did with Ranger and also Hilux Rogue is actually move the damper outboard of the
03:36 chassis rails to improve handling.
03:37 So I'll be interested to see how this actually performs on the road when you have that kind
03:42 of a setup.
03:43 Let's jump over to the back here, I'll show you what it looks like.
03:44 Okay, so this is the rear.
03:46 So over here you've got a set of LEDs.
03:49 So I actually mentioned in the video we shot, it was a sit-down video where I went through
03:52 all of the details.
03:53 If you do want to check that one out, click up here to watch that video.
03:56 But it looks like they have actually integrated an LED tail light into there.
04:00 These sections here appear to be halogen though, so they haven't really sort of gone the whole
04:03 hog there with LED.
04:05 On the safety front though, you have front and rear autonomous emergency braking.
04:08 You also have rear cross-traffic alert, front cross-traffic alert.
04:11 There's a driver attention monitor that they're saying is a segment first.
04:15 So they really have gone to town on all of those safety features.
04:18 Triton badge just here.
04:19 Unfortunately with the camera, it is offset again.
04:22 I know we kind of mention this all the time, but it really needs to be centred so you can
04:27 stick like a trailer or something on your tow ball because it gives you a better line
04:32 of sight when it comes to reversing in.
04:33 So it is a little bit disappointing they have gone offset with that.
04:36 But this is good news.
04:38 Brake light is built into here.
04:39 The reason it's good news is if you do fit a canopy or something and your brake light
04:42 is up the top there, you aren't going to be able to see it.
04:45 Whereas when it is integrated here into the tray, it is much easier to see, which is great
04:49 news.
04:50 They have also gone back down the path of putting plastic cladding here on the tailgate.
04:55 With Navara, when they went down the path of removing that, if you actually loaded anything
04:58 into the tray, it would damage the paintwork on your tray.
05:01 So it is good to see that they actually have gone down the path of protecting that.
05:05 The tray is also now lower as well, so it means that it is easier to get things in and
05:09 out.
05:10 They've also strengthened this side section of the rear bumper too, so you can step up
05:13 on that without ripping the rear bumper off the vehicle.
05:16 They've also integrated hydraulics here into the tray, which is again good news.
05:19 It makes it easier to open and close.
05:21 It just makes ownership of a dual cab ute all the more easier.
05:26 Down here in terms of towing capacity, 3.5 tonne brake towing capacity now, so it's up
05:29 from the 3,100 kilos that Triton had previously.
05:32 It will be interesting to see how it tows, given they haven't gone down the path of a
05:36 V6 diesel, they've just stuck with a four-cylinder diesel.
05:39 So we'll see how that actually pans out for them.
05:41 Let's jump inside and I'll run you through some of the changes they've made to the interior.
05:45 So we're inside the new Triton.
05:46 I actually really like this, so we'll go for a more detailed look when we finally get this
05:51 back in Australia, but I'm just going to run you through some of the highlights here.
05:54 So nine-inch display, it looks very similar to the Outlander, which means you're going
05:58 to get features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-built satellite navigation, and this
06:02 is going to be standard across the range, which I reckon is pretty cool.
06:05 I love the fact that all of this switchgear is actually proper switchgear.
06:09 You don't have to dive through menus and stuff to do basic functions, which is really cool
06:12 to see.
06:13 I did also notice a heated steering wheel button just there as well, plus heated seats,
06:18 which I think is a pretty cool addition to the dual-cab ute segment.
06:20 You have a glovebox up the top here, I like that material that it's finished in as well,
06:24 glovebox down the bottom.
06:25 Top-spec versions have cup holders built just under the air vents over here.
06:29 You have your driver monitoring system ahead of the driver there.
06:32 Steering wheel sits really nicely in the hand too, so I think they've done a great job with
06:35 that.
06:36 No big display ahead of the driver though, so two analogue gauges and then a smaller digital
06:40 gauge in the centre there, but I think they've actually done a pretty good job with giving
06:43 this a pretty luxury feel.
06:45 This is a mid-spec variant as well, so it's not even a top-spec, so I think they've actually
06:49 done really well here with what they've had.
06:51 So let's jump into the back, I'll show you how much legroom there is there.
06:54 So back seat, I'm actually really impressed with the amount of room here.
06:57 So really decent knee room, toe room is okay, headroom is actually really good.
07:01 I like all these little clever ideas.
07:03 They've got storage over here for your phones, mat pockets there, you've got USB-C and USB-A
07:08 throughout the cabin, plus a 12-volt outlet in the back here.
07:11 Not a huge fan of this, so this basically uses recycled air to get air to your rear
07:16 seat passengers, so it's not fresh air, which I think is a bit of a cop-out.
07:20 They should have really just had air vents down here so that you can get fresh air from
07:23 the air conditioner.
07:24 Then you've got a centre armrest here as well.
07:26 So I'm going to take you through and have a look at some of the other really cool concepts
07:30 they have here at this Triton reveal, because I think they've actually gone to town on accessories
07:36 and sporty vehicles as well.
07:38 Now, I mentioned before, I'm going to take you through some of the highlights here at
07:41 the Triton reveal of just some of the crazy stuff they've put together for this launch.
07:46 And the thing that has me questionably the most excited is the most ridiculous sports
07:51 car you've probably ever seen.
07:53 Okay, this is the one that stood out to me when I was walking around here.
07:57 Have a look at that.
07:58 I'll give you a little look at the race version of the Triton.
08:01 What an absolute beast.
08:02 So it's dropped on its guts.
08:04 It's got front splitter there, like carbon on the side.
08:09 Advan's, look at that.
08:12 It's actually very similar to the tyre and wheel package I had on my Supra.
08:18 So pretty unreal look and it is so close to the ground as well.
08:22 That is awesome.
08:24 So it looks like they have absolutely gone to town on really customising these.
08:30 So let's go from sporty to, I guess, adventure.
08:34 If you're into your camping, a little bit more TJM bull bar up the front there.
08:38 But then have a look at this.
08:41 This is properly set up for you to just hit the bush and do what I would never do, which
08:46 is camp.
08:48 I do camp, but just in hotels.
08:51 This is your towing spec.
08:52 So again, bull bar up the front there, caravan at the back as well.
08:56 So basically caters for all of your towing needs.
09:00 Here's the workhorse.
09:01 So single cab, ute, high rider, 4x2.
09:04 It kind of just gets the job done.
09:07 So not a bad look.
09:09 The front is sort of very basic compared to those premium models, but it still actually
09:13 doesn't look too bad.
09:14 The colours and lines there as well.
09:15 You can see them a little bit there by looking at it.
09:18 So that has been your first look at the new Mitsubishi Triton.
09:21 Let me know what you reckon in the comments section below.
09:23 Do you think it's big enough of a change from the previous generation?
09:27 We're going to be getting it in Australia early next year.
09:29 I'm keen to have a proper drive of it and see exactly what it's like and whether all
09:33 the changes they've made to it actually come together nicely as they say they will.
09:38 Just as a side note, I've been to so many car reveals globally before and I just think
09:42 what they've done here with the Triton reveal is unreal.
09:44 They really have just shown all the different applications of how it can look and it kind
09:49 of gets me excited to see them on the road in Australia and see what everyone actually
09:53 does to them.
09:54 So if you did enjoy this video, please make sure you like it and you share it with your
09:57 mates.
09:58 And if you haven't done so already, subscribe to our channel and press the bell icon.
10:00 Sorry again for the chonky filming of all this.
10:03 We're just trying to work around the constraints that we have here.
10:05 At the very limited time we actually had to film anything.
10:08 So thank you for watching and I'll catch you guys later.
