What's the BEST way to run in a new car? We wanted to find out! Well, that's our excuse anyway. Paul and Alborz drove two brand new 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 RSs over 1500km across the coast, outback and to a race track to figure out who run their car in best.

00:00 G'day, I'm Paul. So we're not reviewing any cars today. We're gonna be doing something a little bit more interesting. I love
00:05 science and doing fun things. So today I want to figure out when you are buying a new car and you need to run it
00:10 in, do you go gentle or do you go rental? And by rental I mean do you drive it hard?
00:14 Which is the best way to run it in? Elbours, come into the frame here.
00:18 So you may remember last time we did a road trip. We did an EV and a diesel and you were lumped with the diesel.
00:25 Thank you for that. Yes, it was an Audi. So I thought let's stick with Volkswagen Group.
00:28 I've got us a couple more interesting cars this time around. Two brand new GT3 RSs. Not a diesel Q5.
00:35 No, exactly. We're gonna be running these in. How many K's do we need to put on them? 1500.
00:39 Okay, so 1500 K's is the run-in time.
00:41 We're gonna then figure out which one was run in the best by doing a drag race and the drag race...
00:46 Or hydro would be run in the best.
00:48 The drag race, whichever is quickest, is going to determine the way you need to be running in your car in the future.
00:54 We're gonna do 1500 K's across part of Australia to a racetrack.
00:58 And the whole reason we have these is Porsche is actually launching these in Australia.
01:02 They needed to run them in and we're like, yep. Yep, volunteers.
01:05 So we are at Porsche Centre Melbourne. These cars are brand new. We've actually just unwrapped them as well.
01:11 We're gonna do some rock-paper-scissors, okay? So let's do that now to figure out who's driving gentle.
01:16 Best of three? Okay, go on.
01:19 (laughs)
01:21 Okay, so I'll be driving gently.
01:26 Thank God for that, otherwise I was gonna get on a plane and go home.
01:29 Let's hit the road. I can't wait.
01:31 So we're about to go for our drive and I thought what better place to start our drive?
01:38 You've got two of the biggest wings in the business and the home of the wings, but it's now closed.
01:44 There used to be a KFC there. Yeah, there used to be a KFC. My favourite restaurant.
01:48 I know, you can tell.
01:50 Now, before we actually go, we've got Porsche watches on.
01:53 I know this all seems like a very sponsored segment, but they actually came with the cars.
01:57 These cars will eventually be sold to someone.
01:59 They are about $20,000 Australian dollars. Mine's a little bit cheaper than yours. I'm not sure why.
02:04 But they're colour matched. So this is a Ruby Star and that's Signal Yellow.
02:08 Yay. And then he, of course, is wearing two watches because...
02:10 Well, one of them actually does something. This one looks great though.
02:13 Anyway, so today's plan. We're gonna be going to the coast.
02:17 We're gonna have a look at some of the sights down there.
02:19 We've reset the trip computers in both of the cars to see how much fuel they use.
02:22 I will be driving gently. You will not be driving as gently, but you will be within the rev limits.
02:28 There is no rev limits. There is no rev limits.
02:30 Well, recommended rev limits, I think, is the way they put it.
02:33 And then as well, we've got the Porsche Cayenne with us. So this is our support car.
02:38 Alright, let's saddle up, hit the road and see how we go.
02:40 [MUSIC]
02:49 I thought I'd point out that Victorian drivers are horrendously bad.
02:56 So I am hoping that no one cleans us up before we even get out of Melbourne.
03:01 And the roads are terrible as well. So this should be very interesting to see how it all goes.
03:05 It's gonna be a fun drive because we do have some limitations to adhere to.
03:11 So under 500 kilometres, there's a 4000 rpm limit.
03:14 Under 1000 kilometres, it's a 5000 rpm limit.
03:18 And under 1500 kilometres, it's a 6000 rpm limit.
03:22 And it's at that 1500 km/h mark that we're hoping to be at the bend,
03:26 which is where the launch program is taking place for GT3 RS.
03:30 And then that's where we're gonna do our drag race,
03:32 where we propel this thing as close to 9000 rpm as we possibly can.
03:36 But for the moment, it's just gonna be a bit of highway driving until we get down to the coast.
03:40 [MUSIC]
03:49 So this is probably a good time to point out as well why running a car in is important.
03:54 Not an issue for electric cars, but it is an issue for internal combustion cars when they,
04:00 and this might bore a whole lot of you, so sorry if I put you to sleep,
04:03 when they make a car at the factory, they're carving holes in blocks,
04:08 they're fitting all of these components together, and there's certain degrees of precision there.
04:14 When you first fire up a car, it's going to get itself bedded in.
04:17 And what they do is with an engine like this that'll rev out to, you know, 9000 rpm,
04:22 those little bits of precision will eventually wear in to the point where they're moving freely
04:28 and there's less restriction on them.
04:30 So what they want you to do is put 1500 k's on before you go closer to that 9000 rpm limit
04:35 because they want to make sure that everything is well sorted in that engine,
04:39 everything is set, and it's all not going to sort of move around too much.
04:43 Because you can imagine if you fired up the engine straight out of the factory,
04:47 went straight to 9000 rpm, when you still hadn't bedded everything in,
04:50 there's a good chance that you're going to destroy the engine or create some permanent damage.
04:54 So that is part of the reason they do it.
04:56 And then the theory is that you need to run a car in a certain way,
05:00 and some people have theories that the harder you run it in, the better it's going to perform longer term.
05:07 So it'll be interesting to see how this goes because once we're done running these in,
05:10 they're going to be used for a track event for the launch of this car.
05:13 You're going to have people like Mark Webber driving them.
05:15 So it'll be interesting to see which one of our cars performs the best during our drag race at the end.
05:21 [MUSIC]
05:23 OK, so we've just had some food.
05:34 I thought I'd just explain why a lot of this stuff is actually plastic,
05:37 because we haven't driven on any gravel roads, but you can already see there's like stones and stuff in all of these sections here.
05:46 And unfortunately, they just collect over time.
05:48 Even down the back here as well, you can see the stones are all in that sort of apron area there.
05:53 So I think it's just so you don't damage any parts of the car.
05:56 This car's also been wrapped as well because I think they were concerned about us getting stone chips.
06:00 Although it has been wrapped.
06:02 It has been wrapped.
06:03 And Paul, I'm sure, has a great story for this.
06:05 But I want to show you what happens when you give Paul Maric an expensive car for just two hours.
06:11 Look at this.
06:12 Have a look at this.
06:13 That was not me.
06:14 This is videographic evidence.
06:16 That was not me.
06:17 And it was caused by a drive-through incident.
06:20 It was already like that.
06:22 It was already like that.
06:24 Anyway, stop spreading rumours.
06:26 Hey, you know what we should do?
06:31 We should go through the drive-through.
06:32 I know that when we had Oscar in the Lambo, he loved that.
06:36 So I feel jealous that I didn't get a chance to do that.
06:39 So let's go through the drive-through and get a coffee.
06:41 Since you've already damaged your car, do you mind going first?
06:44 Yes, it is a bloody tight drive-through.
06:46 So let's see how we go.
06:48 I have never seen Paul Maric so nervous in my life.
06:51 He's currently driving towards the drive-through.
06:54 That's signal yellow Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
06:58 The worst part here is that my wheels are black.
07:02 So any scuffs are going to come up very obviously.
07:05 So we'll see how we go.
07:06 I'm nervous.
07:07 Hi, can I get a small latte with...
07:11 Full cream milk?
07:12 Yes, full cream milk with an extra shot and just three quarters full, please.
07:17 This is the tightest drive-through.
07:23 Alright.
07:24 This isn't even a massive car.
07:28 You can imagine driving a Lambo or something through here.
07:31 Thank you.
07:32 Cheers.
07:33 Thanks.
07:35 It's totally full.
07:37 It's not three quarters full.
07:39 That will not do.
07:43 It's got too much milk in it.
07:45 So Paul is holding up the entire McDonald's queue.
07:48 There's a guy behind me who is not happy about the situation.
07:51 I can see the fury in his eyes while Paul tries to work out how to get a three quarter full almond latte but decaffeinated.
07:59 Which is the drink of choice for Mr. Maric.
08:01 He was born in a different time and yeah, it's very unrelatable but that is what he is.
08:07 Sorry, I think I have the wrong one.
08:09 It was meant to be three quarters full and that's full all the way up.
08:13 He's still talking to the manager of McDonald's who may or may not be 17.
08:20 I understand, it's just when you put milk in it, it dilutes it?
08:23 In all seriousness, Paul is genuinely arguing with the 17-year-old.
08:28 About oat milk.
08:31 You can't just tip it out because then the volume isn't the same.
08:34 Thank you, sorry. I'm sorry to be a pain.
08:37 When it's three quarters full, it's just stronger.
08:41 By tipping it out, it's just...
08:43 They just accidentally missed it on the screen.
08:45 Oh, okay.
08:46 Yeah, but just, it's all good. It's fine.
08:49 Thank you.
08:50 They are qualified baristas.
08:52 Sorry?
08:53 They're qualified baristas.
08:55 They just have other orders on the screen and they just accidentally missed it.
08:59 Three quarters full.
09:00 No, I understand. It's just when you put milk in it, it dilutes it?
09:04 And then when you've tipped it out, it's just the same.
09:06 Okay, so it's a new coffee?
09:07 Yeah.
09:08 Okay.
09:09 Thank you.
09:10 Hello.
09:11 Hi.
09:12 Mine's a lot less trouble.
09:13 Thank you.
09:14 You just had the... Yours was just the latte.
09:17 Just the latte.
09:18 Thank you.
09:19 You're good to go.
09:20 I would have looked like the big bad guy.
09:23 I would have looked like the biggest knob just then
09:27 in my signal yellow GT3 RS
09:31 complaining about my three quarter full strong latte.
09:37 Anyway, I'm certain she spat in that.
09:41 It's definitely not a new coffee.
09:42 It's the exact same one she just gave me.
09:44 [Music]
10:03 Tell you what, you know what I love about Australians?
10:05 It's that they call out these things over here.
10:09 Another mobile speed camera.
10:11 So here out in the middle of nowhere,
10:13 get a couple of flash of the lights and you know that
10:16 you're good to go.
10:17 So stop your revenue raising.
10:20 We're sick of it.
10:21 [Music]
10:34 So there's one, two, three.
10:36 Top 12 is how many?
10:37 So hang on, I got the Wikipedia page here.
10:39 Oh, there's a bug.
10:41 I'm not used to this outdoor life, you know.
10:44 Very much not in the car, isn't it?
10:46 A collection of limestone stacks off the shore of Port Campbell.
10:49 One collapsed in 2005.
10:51 It got sick of itself.
10:54 There you go.
10:55 All right, let's keep driving.
10:58 Okay, so it's full.
11:00 It's actually a surprisingly big tank.
11:02 I've just put 48 litres in and I had like a quarter of a tank left.
11:05 The interesting thing is he's put in almost 50 litres.
11:07 So my conservative driving is already paying dividends at the fuel pump.
11:12 I've saved around $2.
11:14 [Music]
11:32 Okay, we are about to cross the border into South Australia.
11:37 Alborz, you're allowed to have more revs now.
11:42 I'm not, so I'm just accelerating slowly, unfortunately.
11:49 [Music]
12:02 So we have finally made it.
12:04 How good are these cars though?
12:06 Like we came here all the way, no problems, no lights.
12:09 Yep.
12:10 Brand new.
12:11 Pretty impressive.
12:12 Yes, well I'm glad they can drive on a highway without any warning lights.
12:15 Yeah, so that's day one done.
12:17 It's been a lot of driving today.
12:19 We've been told we have to park them undercover.
12:21 So here we are at a place undercover.
12:24 So we'll see how that goes.
12:26 And I heard there's a steak restaurant here.
12:28 Yes, the wheels on these are quite hard to steal because they're center lock.
12:31 So we hope that it will be safe here.
12:33 Mate, you go to where I grew up, it's not an issue for anyone there.
12:36 [Music]
12:41 What are you wearing?
12:42 This is at the request of our female viewers.
12:46 This is why we have no female viewers.
12:47 We wanted to see pins and cars.
12:49 See, you're looking more for Apple Watch.
12:51 It's literally 16 degrees.
12:53 Anyway, so we spent the night in Mount Gambier last night at the penthouse.
12:59 And the massage in Mount Gambier.
13:02 We had the cars covered up as well just for good measure, just in case.
13:05 But today is going to be about driving north.
13:08 We're going to go to the outback.
13:10 We're going to leave our balls there and just head off into the sunset.
13:13 And we're going to go up some really nice windy roads and I'll leave him to the outback.
13:16 [Laughs]
13:19 All right, it is time to hit the road.
13:22 [Engine noise]
13:27 God, that KM sounds so good.
13:32 Yeah, ironically, it's the KM that sounds the best here.
13:34 But anyway, I think that'll change once we get some revs on board.
13:38 [Music]
13:48 [Engine noise]
14:16 I know this thing's a track car, but I've got to say, I've currently got it in normal mode
14:21 with the suspension on as soft as it can humanly be.
14:24 And it's actually not that bad.
14:26 You can see it sort of bouncing a little bit on these country roads.
14:29 But it genuinely absorbs the bumps quite well.
14:33 Okay, so I've passed 1,000 km, which means I can go to 5,000 RPM now.
14:38 So this is my favourite part of this trip, the overtakes.
14:42 Because you get to hear this noise.
14:45 Oh, it sounds so good.
14:47 But because I'm being gentle, I ease off, let it go back to 7th gear, and then just relax.
14:55 And it is actually worth pointing out as well, I reckon it could do with an 8th gear.
15:00 I know that they're probably using 7 gears to save weight and all that sort of stuff.
15:03 But even now we're doing 110 km/h, it's about sort of 3,000 RPM.
15:09 It just gets a bit much.
15:11 If you were driving this on the autobahn or something at 150, it'd really be peaking up there.
15:16 So, yeah, it would be nice to see an 8th gear.
15:18 But to be honest, I just love overtaking in this thing.
15:21 It is so nice.
15:22 And these paddle shifters are so good.
15:25 Just the noise they make is unbelievable.
15:29 Yeah, this is an awesome car.
15:30 And just knowing you have that overtaking power all the way up to the speed limit is really great.
15:35 So I've left Mount Gambier on the road now north.
15:39 We're going to Renmark and kind of want to see a bit of outback, a bit of red dirt, that sort of stuff.
15:45 Fun fact, Renmark is actually where we went to do the development drive for the Ranger Raptor,
15:50 so the Love Day 4WD Park.
15:52 So, awesome spot and it is quintessential sort of outback stuff before you get into proper outback.
15:59 So, looking forward to that and looking forward to seeing what these Porsches look like out there.
16:04 So far, so good.
16:05 I did notice we filled up this morning.
16:07 Yet again, I have used less fuel than Elbours, so I am meeting the criteria of driving gently.
16:26 Okay, so in our last road trip, Elbours was hungry and I threw a banana to him, but actually ended up hitting him in the head.
16:36 So, we thought we'd reenact that and just see whether it is my precision throwing skills that work.
16:41 So, I've got to stretch a road here.
16:44 So, Elbours, are you hungry? Can I offer you a banana?
16:47 Mate, am I allowed to dodge this banana or what's the deal? Do I have cruise control at 60?
16:52 Let's see.
16:53 I will be aiming for your head though, so let's see how we go.
16:57 Okay, here we go.
16:59 Banana incoming.
17:01 I don't want to get hit by a banana.
17:03 This is a bad idea.
17:07 Why did we do this? Why do I agree to this?
17:10 I think I got the sight of your car.
17:16 We're going to go back and pick up that banana in a minute, but I thought I need to return fire and let Elbours have a shot as well.
17:24 So, gee Elbours, I'm really hungry. I could do with a banana. Have you got one?
17:29 You do have a significantly larger head, so this should be an easy target. Let's go.
17:33 I'm going to hit him really hard. You've got to get in a line and then you've got to aim forward.
17:38 Oh, come on. Come on. I hit the A pillar.
17:43 You fell on the road.
17:45 This is a really bad idea.
17:48 There's a freaking truck coming.
17:52 It's quite a bit soft, Paul.
17:56 Okay, the time has come. Look at that. 14.99.
18:02 At 1500 kilometres, it means I have no more RPM restrictions.
18:08 And it means also that I'm just going to go to red line once just so we can say we've done it.
18:15 So, just waiting now for it to tick over.
18:19 I'm excited for this because it means that our trip is almost complete. We've done what we need to do.
18:26 I will still drive gently after this. I'm just going to give it one little crack.
18:30 All right, there we go. There's 1500.
18:33 Okay, here we go. I'm going to wind that over to sport.
18:36 Leave it locked into first gear and then just enjoy.
18:41 That noise is unbelievable. I love that so much.
18:56 Oh my God. All right, that is good.
18:58 So, 1500, no more RPM limits, but I will keep driving gently.
19:03 Once Elbow has hit 1500 as well, he's going to unleash his...
19:09 Oh, how satisfying.
19:32 Welcome to Barmera, a town you've probably never heard of.
19:36 It's near Renmark and we have had quite a drive today.
19:40 I never thought I'd say this, but I probably would have preferred to be in the Cayenne as opposed to the GT3 RS.
19:47 Do you concur?
19:49 Yes, my back definitely concurs.
19:51 You know what? One thing I've learned is I don't want to get out of this car.
19:54 I would rather just stay in here.
19:56 Yes.
19:57 But it's so hard to get in and out of.
19:58 Yes, that's actually the thing. We've had to stop a lot of times to do drive-bys and stuff.
20:02 Every time I get out, I think we're both just getting old now.
20:06 Yes, well, yes, probably.
20:08 Anyway, first of all, problems. We're staying at a caravan park as well,
20:12 but like we just discussed when we were both kids, we stayed at caravan parks and it was actually so much fun.
20:18 It actually wasn't.
20:20 I'm looking forward to reliving that experience.
20:22 It really, really wasn't and I have some PTSD by being here.
20:25 That's because he was bullied as a kid. But anyway.
20:28 So, yes, tonight is at the caravan park and then tomorrow is the final stretch.
20:32 We're going to be driving to the Bend Motorsport Park.
20:36 I've just cracked my 1500. I took it over to Redline.
20:39 Alborz is about to crack his 1500.
20:42 He's going to take his to Redline in the morning
20:44 and then we're going to set up a drag race to figure out whether my gentle and caring approach
20:50 exceeds his approach of driving it like a rental car.
20:53 Good morning.
20:59 All right.
21:01 Final day vibes.
21:03 On a home stretch now.
21:05 We've both cracked 1500 Ks.
21:07 My back is a lot better than yesterday.
21:10 The pain of sitting in this car for prolonged periods of time does subside after some sleep.
21:16 Nonetheless, that doesn't change the fact that this car is quite bouncy
21:21 and not on crappy roads either.
21:24 It's just bouncy if the road isn't perfectly smooth.
21:27 I've taken a couple of little detours.
21:29 I've added on a few extra Ks of driving.
21:31 You get used to it, kind of, but I wouldn't recommend you doing long road trips in a GT3 RS.
21:39 Like, my point. Bloody hell.
21:42 Today's all about heading down towards the Bend.
21:46 The cars are going to get a quick look over.
21:48 Once they're done, we're going to do our drag race.
21:51 So, basically, today we've got a couple of little fun roads coming up.
21:55 But first, more fuel.
21:58 [Music]
22:02 [Music]
22:30 Okay, so, the cars are running now.
22:35 I think we need to have a little blab through this mountain road here
22:39 before we finally get to the Bend.
22:42 I've put it in Sport mode.
22:44 And the other thing that I'm going to do as well, I'm going to go to full Downforce mode as well.
22:49 So, Dynamic Downforce.
22:51 You can actually feel it start pulling back a little bit as soon as you do that.
22:56 Oh, it feels so good.
22:59 This road's going to be perfect because it's got some faster stretches running through it.
23:03 But then, equally, the twisty bits are nice and fast as well.
23:08 And for a vehicle like this that has long legs, but also agility through corners,
23:13 I think it's going to be unreal.
23:15 I love these paddle shifters, but the Sport mode is just exactly what you need.
23:18 You don't need to fiddle with anything.
23:20 The Sport mode does exactly what you want it to do.
23:22 It holds gears. It'll blip on downshifts.
23:24 It really just excites you and does everything that you need the vehicle to do.
23:30 There's no fussing about here.
23:32 All right, let's give this a little crack and see how we go.
23:35 The sound is just unreal.
23:41 When you're climbing through the revs, it really just sings through the cabin.
23:46 So, on this road, they actually filmed this epic drifting video.
23:53 So, it's a great spot to be fanging this thing around.
23:58 There are certain things in life that money can't buy.
24:12 And then there's this.
24:14 This is something that money can definitely buy because this is pure joy.
24:18 And this car is just an engineering marvel.
24:21 (ENGINE REVS)
24:24 The brakes are incredible, too.
24:33 So, Alborz's car has steel brakes.
24:37 Mine is on carbon ceramics.
24:40 Carbon ceramics are like a $20,000 option.
24:44 (LAUGHS)
24:46 In addition to the, what, $70,000 you're paying for the VISARC package as well.
24:51 Oh, this noise is just absolutely stupid.
24:55 (LAUGHS)
25:00 What a road, by the way.
25:03 Now, the people of South Australia don't get much credit for anything
25:07 except probably wine and weird colts that they have.
25:10 But I've got to tell you, they've got some absolutely amazing roads up here.
25:14 This is beautiful.
25:16 Oh, man, that is unreal.
25:29 If they'd have got that out of the system, that's hold back for quite some time.
25:33 So, far out. This car is just something else.
25:37 And you've got all these switches here on the steering wheel.
25:40 You could go and change and play around with all that sort of stuff.
25:43 And just Sport mode plus this sort of dynamic downforce mode is cool.
25:47 And then you can actually activate DRS as well.
25:49 Once you click that, it actually retracts that spoiler at the rear
25:55 so you aren't getting as much downforce on the back.
25:58 So, yeah, this is just absolutely something else.
26:11 So, we have arrived at The Bend, which is a racetrack in South Australia.
26:15 In fact, it's a bloody awesome racetrack.
26:17 - It's the longest racetrack in Australia. - Really?
26:19 - Yeah. - There you go.
26:20 And then the guys that run the joint have got an incredible car collection in there as well,
26:24 which is cool. Oil barons, technically.
26:27 So, what we thought we'd do, because we haven't actually spoken about this yet at all,
26:30 is the car, the GT3 RS and exactly what it is and what the hell the steering stuff is.
26:37 So, let's talk about the price first.
26:39 - It's expensive now, isn't it? - It is very expensive.
26:41 So, realistically, without the Wisec pack, you'll get one on road for about $700.
26:46 With the Wisec pack, you're starting to look in the high sevens.
26:48 - That is a lot of money. - It is a lot of money.
26:50 - It is a lot of money. - This car was never that expensive, right?
26:52 No, the previous gen was sort of in that $550, $600 mark.
26:55 So, it's gone up by a good $200,000, really.
26:57 Okay, so price aside, every generation of this, everyone goes,
27:00 "Oh, well, how are they going to make it better?"
27:02 Well, this time around, it's got still a naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine,
27:06 still rear-wheel drive, automatic only,
27:08 but on the steering wheel, there is a litany of incredible buttons there.
27:12 - There is. - So, let's run through them.
27:14 So, drive mode. I think it's pretty straightforward.
27:16 Yeah, drive mode's pretty easy.
27:17 So, we've been obviously driving in normal the whole way here.
27:19 I've been in sport a little bit.
27:21 Yes, you've been driving in normal.
27:23 I'm going to show you how I'm going to go faster because I've been doing it in sport.
27:26 Anyway, you've also got track mode, which is really what this car is all about, right?
27:29 So, you put it in track, and then you've got these things which Porsche calls satellites.
27:33 So, these buttons are called satellites.
27:34 And while they've got names on them, when you press one of them,
27:37 like PASM, for example, the suspension management,
27:39 then the other dials actually become the satellite for what you see on there, right?
27:43 So, I can change the front compression. I can change the rear compression.
27:47 It's so ridiculously race car-like that I think the average person like you would never use it.
27:53 But someone that's a little bit more pro, that does more track days, like myself,
27:56 would actually probably get some use out of it.
27:58 That's what you do there. It's like people who go to the gym.
28:00 He does that. I don't know what he does there.
28:02 But you can do compression and rebound here.
28:04 And the important thing is that normally in a car, that would be a suspension,
28:08 like you have to get out of the car, change stuff.
28:11 You can do this while you're driving, which is awesome.
28:13 I think it's the only car in the world, well, road legal car, that you can do this in.
28:18 Yeah, because some cars do have like a track mode, a sport mode, all that sort of stuff.
28:21 But this is like next level in terms of the configurability.
28:25 Correct. The one I like the most is the PTV.
28:29 So, that's Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.
28:31 And I actually wrote this down on my phone.
28:34 Well, he explains that.
28:36 I got this from the Porsche guy, because otherwise there's no way I'm going to remember this.
28:40 So, with Coast, if you're understeering into entry, you loosen it.
28:45 If you're oversteering into entry, you tighten it.
28:47 And with Power, I don't know why they call it Power, but it's basically the differential.
28:52 If you understeer on the exit, you loosen it.
28:55 And if you oversteer on the exit, you tighten it.
28:57 Now, I completely read that off my phone. I'm never going to remember that.
29:00 What I will say is that the guy told us basically for the average person, just leave it in there.
29:05 So, this relates to the differential.
29:07 And this has an e-diff.
29:09 And then in addition to that, it actually has a brake torque vectoring system.
29:13 Coast and Power is, Coast is when you're off the throttle and how much locking it's going to apply to the diff.
29:19 And that'll affect your cornering characteristics.
29:21 Power is when you're on the throttle and how it's sending torque between that rear axle.
29:26 Listen to this civil engineer. Talk like he knows what he's talking about.
29:28 But that is also cool. Like a lot of cars have e-diffs or a torque vectoring system.
29:33 This is fully customisable.
29:34 You can effectively change the way your LSD works while you're driving the car, which is unreal.
29:39 And then I guess it's worth also pointing out this one, the traction control.
29:42 It's like a variable traction control system, which we've seen before in other cars, right?
29:46 Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And my instructions from the Porsche guys was to leave everything on.
29:51 Yeah, there's a reason for that.
29:53 They don't want you to stack an $800,000 car into the fence.
29:56 Okay, so I think enough talking. People know what the car's about.
29:59 They can look it up if they need to.
30:01 We're actually going to do a proper review on this at our proving ground when we finally get our hands on it.
30:04 But I think we need to go and do a drag race.
30:06 I'm going to beat you so hard.
30:07 I will. That's what I'm saying. You're here.
30:13 Mate, last time you did this, you cheated and you ran on one.
30:16 So remember, it goes on zero and go, right?
30:18 You're going to go.
30:19 Okay, yeah. Just as a reminder to everyone, we're drag racing now from here at the start line
30:24 over to the start/stop line.
30:26 We want to figure out which one of these was run in the best
30:29 and therefore who is the better driver, I would say.
30:32 That's fair to say.
30:33 So we've got some people up the top there that are going to count us in.
30:37 We're going to do some launch control.
30:39 And then what we'll do, I think we'll swap drivers once just to make sure that I'm still the better person.
30:43 So, all right, here we go.
30:45 Oh, yes!
30:50 Oh, yes!
30:51 Oh, yes!
30:55 No!
31:06 I've got him! Yes!
31:10 No, that's not right.
31:14 That's not right. I lost traction there.
31:18 Oh, what happened there, champion? We left at the exact same time.
31:22 No, I want a refund on that one. That didn't work.
31:25 Oh, that is pure demolishment. I loved every single second of that.
31:30 So let's go back now. We'll swap cars.
31:33 And this car should win again.
31:35 And that will then dictate that I am indeed the better driver
31:39 and indeed have the better run-in strategy.
31:45 OK, so take two. This time I'm in Al Borz's car.
31:49 It kind of feels a bit yuck in here, but we'll see how it goes.
31:52 My theory is that that should win because I've run it in better, so we'll see how it goes.
31:56 You're just wrong. You're just wrong. But anyway.
31:59 Three, two, one.
32:02 Oh!
32:10 [Engine revving]
32:12 [Laughs]
32:31 What is happening here? What is happening here? That does not make sense.
32:37 This guy is hopeless.
32:39 There's something wrong. There's something wrong. I need a third try.
32:42 So I think it's safe to say that it doesn't really matter how you run a car in.
32:47 It just comes down to the driver.
32:50 I want to rewind and redo this again because that's embarrassing.
32:54 The champ is here.
32:58 That is nonsense. That is nonsense.
33:01 I don't know what is happening, but I...
33:03 I'll tell you what's happening.
33:05 So the theory on how to run in a car is kind of irrelevant.
33:08 What is relevant, though, is driving skill.
33:10 I don't know how... I think you're either cheating or something is impeding my driving.
33:15 I will admit something. There was no traction on that side of the road.
33:19 When I left, I was like, "Oh, shit."
33:21 Yes, I don't know. It really is frustrating.
33:24 But anyway.
33:25 The point of the matter is that it doesn't matter how you run them in.
33:27 They're bloody fast regardless.
33:28 Yes, we had an absolutely epic time running these in.
33:31 The road trip was unreal.
33:33 I think the run-in thing, if we were to do it scientifically, it would be a very different story.
33:38 But for me, this was incredible fun.
33:41 I want you to tell us which other road trips you want us to do.
33:45 What do you want us to experiment at?
33:47 What do you want me to win at again?
33:48 I'm really keen to find out.
33:51 If you did enjoy this video, please make sure you like it and you share it with your mates.
33:55 And if you haven't done so already, subscribe to our channel and press the bell icon
33:58 so you can find out every single time we do something fun like this.
34:01 I think it's time to go get a beer.
34:02 I'm tired.
34:03 Let's do it.
34:03 [BLANK_AUDIO]
