00:00 G'day, I'm Paul. Have you always wanted a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, but kind of don't want to look like someone who drives a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen?
00:07 Well, maybe this is the solution. This is called the Nissan Patrol Warrior.
00:11 It is just a Nissan Patrol, but it has been hotted up with some off-road bits and an exhaust as well,
00:16 that I'm going to show you a little later on. Now, this competes with things like Land Rover Defender, Toyota Land Cruiser,
00:21 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, that kind of thing. It's priced at just over a hundred thousand dollars,
00:26 so it is incredible value for money when you consider exactly what you're getting with this package.
00:30 There is a new Patrol just around the corner, and I think the price is going to go through the roof,
00:34 so probably get this while you can. Today, we're going to do a detailed review and a little bit of light off-roading with this,
00:40 so if you do want to skip ahead to other parts of this review,
00:42 you can use the time codes that are on the screen, or if you're on YouTube,
00:45 you could scroll down and use the chapters below, and if you haven't done so already, subscribe to our channel and press the bell icon,
00:50 so you can find out every single time we drive a big old beast.
00:54 Now, let's talk design. Number one,
00:57 I love the way that the Patrol looks just as it is, without all this stuff on it. Styling is subjective,
01:02 but I think given how old the car and the platform is, I think it still actually looks pretty cool.
01:07 Now, the Patrol Warrior builds on that, so it has a stack of off-road components,
01:11 and by the way, you've got four colors to choose from. The optional ones are $650.
01:15 It builds on that with a little bit of off-road trickery and also extra ride height.
01:20 So, down the front here, piano black there, new Nissan logo, full LED headlights with washers as well.
01:26 An important thing if you are going off-road, that will blast off any debris that's left on those headlights.
01:31 But have a look down here.
01:33 So, the car actually benefits from a 50mm lift. Part of that is from suspension,
01:37 and then part of that is from the tires as well. I'll run you through that split in just a sec.
01:41 Now, beneath the front of the car here,
01:42 you've got 2.3mm steel bash plate as well, if you are going to do some serious off-roading.
01:47 You also have an improvement on the approach angle, so I'll run through that when we go off-road.
01:51 But you can see here with this new front end, they've really carved that bottom section out,
01:55 which means that if you are going to do some proper off-roading,
01:58 you're not going to be destroying the lower section of the car if you do find yourself on a fairly steep rock face.
02:02 So, very impressed with that.
02:04 Now, around the side here, 18-inch alloy wheels, so machined finish on the outside there,
02:08 piano black in the center.
02:10 Big old set of all-terrain tires. So, this is a 34-inch tire.
02:13 This contributes part of that lift. 21mm of the lift comes from the tires,
02:17 29mm of the lift comes from the suspension changes.
02:20 So, stiffer front springs.
02:22 They've also modified the hydraulic anti-roll system in this to cater for the extra ride height
02:27 and to ensure that it still has the same handling characteristics of the regular Patrol.
02:31 Front and rear track has also increased slightly as well to accommodate all of these extra components.
02:36 You've got wheel arch cladding here as well, so people know that you're driving an off-road vehicle.
02:41 A little bit of chrome here with Patrol on the side there.
02:44 You've got piano black on the side there for the wing mirror with a camera built in under there.
02:48 V8 badge here, just in case you forget what you're driving.
02:51 And then Warrior decals down the side here.
02:53 Now, if you have a little sticky beak under here, you've got yourself side exit exhaust as well.
02:57 So, it's a bimodal system.
02:59 When you hit that throttle, it's going to activate that side exhaust and let out a big old roar down the side of the car,
03:04 which I cannot wait to hear.
03:06 You've got privacy glass.
03:07 Now, while the front is stiffer, the rear is slightly softer.
03:10 It also has progressive rate bump stops as well.
03:13 There's also been damper changes as well to accommodate for all of this extra work they've done.
03:17 So, it isn't just a sticker pack.
03:19 They actually have gone to a lot of effort here to make all of this work.
03:22 Come on to the back with me.
03:23 Now, around the back, LED taillights integrated into here.
03:26 A Warrior badge along the back there.
03:28 Rated recovery points.
03:29 You also have modifications here to the tow bar to accommodate that spare tyre that sits beneath there.
03:35 This also has a GVM upgrade as well.
03:37 So, all of these extra components have added weight.
03:39 GVM upgrade gives you a little bit more latitude when it comes to towing as well.
03:43 It retains its 3.5 tonne brake towing capacity.
03:46 So, let me know what you reckon about the design of this thing.
03:49 Do you think it looks good?
03:50 And what do you reckon about the price as well?
03:52 Would you rather pay a lot more for a different brand, or do you think that they've hit the sweet spot with this?
03:57 It is based on the TI, not the TIL, but they're pretty much the same with a few feature differences between them.
04:03 So, we're inside the Patrol Warrior.
04:05 This is what the key looks like.
04:06 You've got Nissan badge up the top there.
04:08 Lock, unlock, panic.
04:11 It's a proximity sensing key, so you can leave that in your pocket.
04:14 Push button start just over here.
04:16 Have a look at this.
04:16 Welcome to 1990, which is where it feels like this interior came from.
04:21 I'll run you through the infotainment in just a second, but yeah, it is classic '90s luxury SUV with a million buttons and all that sort of stuff.
04:29 But look, to be honest, it's not the end of the world.
04:32 A lot of people aren't into technology and all the whiz-bang gadgets and stuff.
04:36 So, to them, this is going to work because there is a button for everything.
04:40 You just push it and stuff gets done.
04:41 What I do like that they've done here, though, with the Warrior is added that Alcantara suede treatment along the top there with Warrior etched into it, along the doors as well.
04:50 It really just gives this bit of a cool vibe inside the cabin.
04:54 Really not a huge fan of all this piano black, though.
04:56 It is absolutely everywhere.
04:58 It kind of gives me chills just looking at it.
05:00 But outside of that, you know, this interior, I guess it is what it is.
05:04 And see, you don't get that these days in many other cars.
05:07 So, touch points.
05:08 In the center there, it's nice and soft, soft on the door, too.
05:11 How soft is it?
05:12 We've got our durometer, tested the main surfaces in this cabin.
05:16 If you do want to see how this car compares to others that we've tested before, have a look at the link in the description below.
05:21 Now, build quality.
05:22 What is it like?
05:24 A little bit sort of wonky there in the center.
05:27 That's not too bad.
05:27 I will mention that this is a pre-production car, so some of these bits and pieces may not be in the final spec version.
05:33 And this is what the door sounds like.
05:34 Now, let's talk infotainment.
05:41 This is just going to be a brief discussion.
05:43 So, 8-inch infotainment screen.
05:45 It's all sort of pretty straightforward.
05:47 You have inbuilt satellite navigation.
05:50 There are apps.
05:51 I'm not entirely sure whether you can actually load anything interesting on here, but I think it's just stuff like your performance clock compass, that type of thing.
05:59 There's nothing else sort of too interesting there.
06:01 Outside of that, you have AM and FM radio, and then a six-speaker stereo as well with the ability to play CDs and Bluetooth too.
06:08 So, nothing too crash hot there.
06:10 Ahead of the driver is a tiny little digital display for your trip computer and other functions, and then analog gauges off to either side as well.
06:19 Now, let's talk about safety features.
06:20 So, you've got autonomous emergency braking.
06:22 You've got an auto-dimming rear vision mirror.
06:24 You've got a blind spot monitor built into the wing mirror.
06:27 You've also got radar cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, a lane-keeping assistant.
06:33 Then, in addition to all of that, you have front and rear parking sensors and a 360 camera.
06:37 I'll show you what that looks like.
06:39 There it is there.
06:39 Look, the camera's really not very impressive.
06:41 It's quite low quality, but it is what it is.
06:45 You can see down the sides of the car, out the front there as well, so that's not too bad.
06:50 And then I'll show you what it looks like out the rear.
06:52 There it is there.
06:52 So, it is a bit tricky to see what's in our suitcase, but it is what it is.
06:57 Finally, our horn.
07:00 What about your practicality?
07:02 Let's start off with your connectivity.
07:03 So, you've got a 12-volt outlet down the bottom here, two USB-A ports.
07:08 In here, you've got another 12-volt outlet as well.
07:10 In terms of storing your things, your phone can kind of just live wherever.
07:14 There's stacks of storage spots around here.
07:16 Your water bottle fits into there quite nicely.
07:19 There are no teeth though, so it kind of just moves around a little bit.
07:22 Yeah, it's a little bit annoying.
07:24 Inside the door, the bottle fits fine.
07:27 I'll try the big bottle as well inside the door.
07:30 Good, look at that.
07:31 Fits nicely too.
07:33 In addition to that, you've also got storage under here.
07:35 It's a nice big space.
07:36 You've got a glove box over here as well, which is pretty reasonably sized.
07:40 And then you also have a sunglasses holder up the top.
07:43 What about your comfort?
07:44 So, you have dual-zone automatic climate control.
07:48 You've got electric seat adjustment for the driver and front passenger,
07:51 so you can go forwards and backwards.
07:52 Your backrest can go forwards and backwards.
07:54 You can lift the front of the seat, the back of the seat.
07:56 You have lumbar adjustment as well.
07:58 Seats are super comfy too.
08:00 They're nice and soft, and you just sit in them, and you just relax.
08:04 It's just a nice place to be seated.
08:06 In terms of your steering, it is manually adjustable.
08:09 It offers both tilts and reach adjustment.
08:13 And then on our reach test, all of this stuff is easy to reach while you're driving.
08:16 OK, so we're in the second row.
08:19 Room here is excellent.
08:20 So, heaps of knee room.
08:21 Toe room's great.
08:22 Headroom is excellent as well.
08:25 Air vents up the top here.
08:27 Get that Alcantara treatment continuing on the door there as well.
08:30 Now, this is cool.
08:31 So, you've got USB-A ports down here for charging devices.
08:34 A 12-volt outlet is a third zone of climate control.
08:37 But if you do want access to your glove box, what you do is push that,
08:40 and then that cracks open from there, which is cool.
08:43 Matt pockets in the back of the seats.
08:44 You have a centre armrest here with a set of cup holders.
08:48 And then your bottle can go inside the door as well.
08:52 In terms of the kids, you've got two ISOFIX points on the two outboard seats.
08:56 Top tether points as well.
08:58 And then our window test, it's auto up and down.
09:00 Does it go all the way down?
09:02 Boom.
09:03 There it is.
09:04 Now, third row.
09:05 What's it like?
09:06 Can you actually fit an adult in there?
09:08 Only one way to find out.
09:10 So, you pull this forward.
09:11 That tumbles out of the way.
09:13 And then you climb on in.
09:15 Yeah.
09:16 Let's see what this is like.
09:20 Wow.
09:22 Actually surprised by that.
09:23 I thought this was gonna be really cramped.
09:24 Like, it is cramped, but for an adult, it's actually not the end of the world.
09:28 And the other unique thing about this particular spec of the Patrol
09:32 is that it's an eight-seater.
09:33 So, two at the front, three here, and three here as well.
09:37 So, it is a very small second seat there,
09:39 but you can legally carry eight people in this vehicle.
09:42 You got cup holders off to the side, air vents up the top,
09:44 grab handles as well,
09:46 and then top tether point behind this seat too.
09:48 So, not a bad place to be seated.
09:50 And even for adults for shorter trips, I think it'll be perfectly fine.
09:54 So, what's your cargo space like?
09:58 Let's crack this open.
09:59 So, you have just under 500 litres available to you here behind the third row,
10:05 when the third row is up.
10:06 You got a 12-volt outlet off to the side,
10:08 a little bit of storage under here as well.
10:10 And then under here, you've got a jack
10:12 and a couple of other bits and pieces for that spare tyre.
10:14 Show you what it looks like with our bags in there.
10:16 So, there's one bag, and there's your other bag as well.
10:19 So, it's actually a pretty generous space for a vehicle with a third row.
10:23 Normally, it's quite cramped behind here, so they've done a good job with that.
10:27 Now, it does get better though.
10:28 So, if you do drop the third row out of the way,
10:31 we'll just fold that down,
10:33 that expands the space to a little under 1500 litres,
10:37 almost flat, but it has a slight rise to it.
10:39 If you do want to go even bigger,
10:41 you can get rid of this and the second row as well.
10:45 And that gives you just over 2600 litres of space
10:50 with a sort of rising floor line.
10:52 All right, so we have just hit the road in the Patrol Warrior.
11:01 One of my favourite things about this,
11:03 and probably the thing I like most above and beyond the Land Cruiser,
11:06 is that this still uses a naturally aspirated V8.
11:09 So, every time you get on it, you hear it, it sings,
11:12 it does everything that you want it to do, and it is a heap of fun,
11:15 especially with that side exit exhaust.
11:17 So, it's a weird setup because they do have just a normal exhaust out the rear,
11:21 but also the side exit one.
11:22 So, when you're driving along normally, it's going out the normal exhaust,
11:26 but when you step on it,
11:28 it starts spitting noise out the side there as well,
11:30 so that everyone can hear it.
11:31 So, certainly sounds good from inside the cabin.
11:34 Now, under the bonnet here,
11:35 naturally aspirated 5.6-litre V8 petrol engine.
11:40 It's our understanding that the next generation of this
11:42 is going to go towards a turbocharged V6,
11:45 so you probably want to get in, like, now if you want access to the V8.
11:50 Produces just under 300 kilowatts of power
11:53 and a little over 550 newton metres of torque,
11:56 and it's all mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission,
12:00 and it's a full-time four-wheel drive system.
12:02 Now, behind the wheel, what does all that feel like?
12:03 Well, if you get stuck into it...
12:05 (ENGINE REVS)
12:07 ..gearbox can be a little laggy at times,
12:09 but it really isn't the end of the world.
12:11 It's always ready to get up and boogie,
12:12 and once it does start moving, it creates a lot of noise.
12:16 It's not exactly a torque monster
12:17 like you'll find in a lot of turbocharged diesel engines,
12:20 but it does give you a nice punch in the back as it accelerates.
12:22 So, big win on that front.
12:24 I've got to say, sorry about all the rain.
12:26 It is bucketing down today,
12:28 so it's going to be interesting to see how this goes on our faster drive.
12:33 In terms of fuel economy,
12:34 Nissan claims a figure of about 14 litres per 100km.
12:38 You probably won't be surprised to hear
12:40 that we're averaging closer to 20 at 19.6,
12:43 and that is just the nature of this beast.
12:45 It is going to use a lot of fuel,
12:47 especially if you're driving it in and around the city,
12:48 so keep that in mind.
12:50 Don't be buying this if you think it's going to be highly efficient.
12:53 But do also have in the back of your head
12:55 that if you are towing, these actually tend to be not that bad.
12:58 When we did our big SUV comparison recently,
13:00 you can click up there to watch that,
13:02 in the towing test, we actually found that this wasn't outrageous
13:04 in terms of the fuel economy when you were towing
13:07 in comparison to some of the other cars in the segment.
13:09 And the other big bonus as well is that this has a 140-litre fuel tank,
13:14 so it means that it is going to last a little while,
13:17 but before you have to actually go back to the servo
13:19 to put a bit more juice in it.
13:20 Now, let's talk about ride and what that feels like.
13:24 So, the changes they made to the suspension here
13:26 actually haven't ruined this.
13:28 So, the Patrol was always a pretty sort of nice riding car,
13:31 and that meant that the handling was sort of a little floaty,
13:34 but they really have tightened it up a bit here
13:36 to cater towards the changes that they've made to the tyres.
13:39 And it is firmer than a typical Patrol,
13:41 but it's really not the end of the world.
13:42 And now we've got our sine waves coming up here.
13:45 Let's dial up the speed a little bit here.
13:46 We'll get 130 up to see what they feel like.
13:49 I think this will be the ultimate test
13:51 of what they've done with the ride and the body control here.
13:54 So, here we go.
13:56 There's 130.
13:59 It's actually quite surprising.
14:01 It feels like it's going to get a lot of float on
14:04 and sort of not have a great deal of body control at the top here,
14:07 but it really settles nicely,
14:09 and a lot of that is down to that hydraulic anti-roll system
14:12 that they have in place.
14:13 Gives you the flexibility of anti-roll bars
14:16 without the disadvantage that you have off-road
14:18 with those in terms of articulation.
14:20 So, yeah, it feels really nicer in terms of the ride.
14:22 A little firm around the city, but not the end of the world.
14:25 OK, bumpy road time.
14:26 This is probably more realistic
14:27 in terms of what you're going to be using this car for.
14:30 We do this at 90km/h,
14:31 and this simulates, like, the worst road you've ever encountered in Australia.
14:36 It's full of ruts and potholes,
14:38 and now when it's wet, we've got lots of waterlogged sections as well.
14:41 And then we have a condensed sine wave as well
14:43 that really puts a lot of stress on the car at 90km/h,
14:46 and the suspension as well.
14:47 So, here it is.
14:50 That is remarkably good.
14:51 You barely feel anything inside the cabin here.
14:53 They've done a tremendously good job here with the suspension.
14:56 I'm really impressed with how this performs.
14:58 In terms of road noise,
14:59 it really isn't as much as I thought there was going to be.
15:01 These are meaty all-terrain tyres,
15:03 but it actually performs pretty good out on the road,
15:06 even on course-tripped country roads.
15:07 This is out when up against our calibrated sound meter.
15:11 Now, there is no sport mode.
15:14 Let's go for a punt around the track.
15:16 We'll see what it feels like.
15:20 And like I said, it is sopping wet at the moment, so...
15:25 (LAUGHS)
15:28 Oh, this...
15:30 Oh, sweet.
15:31 (ENGINE ROARS)
15:33 Got close to understeering off the track there.
15:39 Yeah, this feels very reminiscent of my Raptor with the KO2s.
15:45 (LAUGHS)
15:47 I am right on the edge of traction here.
15:51 The other thing with our track as well
15:53 is that it was deliberately designed in parts here
15:55 to have a very low coefficient of friction.
15:58 So at parts of the track here, I'll actually enter a corner
16:01 and the steering wheel will just randomly give way mid-corner
16:04 into understeer.
16:05 It happens with pretty much all cars here in the wet,
16:07 so it doesn't surprise me that this is like this.
16:09 But let me know in the comments section below,
16:11 do you want us to bring this back when it is dry
16:14 so I can actually have a proper punt of it around here?
16:16 'Cause one of the things that surprised me with the Raptor
16:18 is the Raptor in the wet is diabolically bad
16:23 because of those tyres,
16:24 but in the dry, it actually has a surprising amount of traction
16:27 and will let you have a bit of fun well within its limits.
16:30 So, you know, let me know.
16:32 If you want us to bring this back, we'll come back with it when it is dry
16:35 and go for a little punt around the track.
16:36 But I am pretty impressed with, I guess, what it was like
16:39 when it was dry briefly this morning.
16:41 OK, performance testing time.
16:43 I'm looking forward to this.
16:45 Before we get started with that,
16:46 I wanted to tell you about Help Me Car Expert,
16:49 inspired by our friends at CarWow.
16:51 CarExpert, we're a big company
16:52 and we actually have a stack of dealers on our platform
16:55 and they're only there to get you the best deal.
16:57 We only retain the dealers that are actually doing good deals.
16:59 We have visitors to the website
17:01 and they also deal with cars that are in stock as well, like this one.
17:04 So if you are interested in getting a good deal on an in-stock car,
17:07 just go to Google and type in Help Me Car Expert.
17:09 So there is no official 0-100 time, but we'll see how we go.
17:13 I'm just gonna leave it in auto.
17:14 I want to turn traction control off as well.
17:17 And we'll go all the way through to 120
17:19 and just see how this performs.
17:21 So here we go.
17:22 (ENGINE REVS)
17:24 Nice.
17:30 (ENGINE REVS)
17:32 That sound is so good.
17:42 Oh, and as we try and stop...
17:45 Alright, so 0-100, 7.4 seconds.
17:50 For something as big as this, that is unreal.
17:52 And then 80-120, five seconds.
17:56 That is awesome.
17:57 Alright, let's head back and let's go try a break from 100.
18:02 It is going to be kind of a pointless task, given it is so wet,
18:06 but we'll give it a shot anyway.
18:08 And if it does dry up later on, I'll come back for another crack.
18:11 But we'll see what happens.
18:13 Alright, let's stop from 100.
18:16 Let's see how this performs. Here we go.
18:18 (ENGINE REVS)
18:20 Alright, it is, as expected, taking just a little while.
18:28 Let's have a look.
18:29 So 100-0.
18:31 Oh, wow. 5.1 seconds, 73.91 metres.
18:36 I know it's wet, but that is an incredible stopping distance
18:40 and not in a good way.
18:41 So I know that these tyres aren't great for on-road performance
18:44 and all that sort of stuff,
18:45 but I think even in the Raptor that is slightly lighter than this,
18:49 the braking performance is significantly better.
18:51 So it'd be interesting to see if they actually did any calibration here
18:55 to the ABS, because it was mainly ABS that was stopping us
18:58 from pulling up there.
18:59 So it's something I'll look into, but, yeah, as a stopping distance,
19:02 that definitely isn't very good.
19:04 If you want to see how this vehicle compares to other cars
19:06 that we've tested, we actually have a spreadsheet
19:08 with all of those results.
19:10 Just go down to the description below to see that.
19:12 So just a heads up, sorry to interrupt the video.
19:14 We actually did the braking test again once it dried up.
19:18 Significantly better by, like, 20 metres or something.
19:21 I think it shows you that the ABS calibration probably needs a bit of work
19:25 for wet weather conditions with these tyres.
19:28 But when it is dry, it is significantly better at stopping.
19:31 And now it's time for our reverse acceleration test.
19:34 Let's see how we go.
19:36 [REVS ENGINE]
19:39 [LAUGHS]
19:42 That was like... I didn't even have time to look.
19:46 That was like 70-something k's an hour.
19:49 [LAUGHS]
19:50 That is unreal.
19:52 OK, let's do a little bit of light off-roading.
19:55 I'm going to run you through the specs here first.
19:58 So let's start off with the approach and departure angles.
20:00 So approach angle, 40 degrees.
20:02 So they have lopped a whole lot off that front end to get it.
20:05 That attack angle, that's awesome.
20:06 So approach angle is the angle of the face you can approach
20:08 before you hit something with the front of the car.
20:10 The departure angle, on the other hand, 23 degrees.
20:13 Not as good, but that integrates that tow bar in the rear as well.
20:16 That's the angle of the face you can approach,
20:18 but in reverse from the back of the car.
20:20 In addition to that, ground clearance, just over 320mm.
20:25 So that is thanks to that 50mm lift.
20:27 This already had quite a generous ground clearance as well,
20:29 so that has just increased it even further.
20:31 In terms of the hardware, you're in four-wheel drive automatic
20:34 most of the time, but then you can switch over to four-wheel drive high range.
20:37 You have four-wheel drive low range, a rear diff lock,
20:40 and then you have a number of different drive modes
20:42 and a hill descent control as well that I'll run you through in just a second.
20:46 Now if you do want a better explanation of how all of this stuff works,
20:49 we actually shot a video explaining four-wheel drive controls
20:51 and demonstrating them as well, so click up here to watch that.
20:55 So what we're going to do, we're going to head over our Mogul,
20:59 our offset Mogul first.
21:00 Normally we do this in two-wheel drive high range,
21:03 but because this doesn't have two-wheel drive,
21:05 we'll just see what it's like.
21:07 Actually I'm going to switch the parking sensors off.
21:09 We'll see what this is like in high range with the rear wheel off the ground,
21:13 because it will give us a good indication of what the traction control systems are like.
21:17 I'll just wait for that rear wheel to get off the ground.
21:21 There it is around there.
21:23 It'll give you a bit of an idea of what the articulation is like as well.
21:26 So I'm just going to lean on the throttle,
21:28 and we'll let traction control do its work,
21:30 so I can feel it biting there.
21:33 Get that wheel off the ground.
21:36 Nice.
21:37 That felt really nice and capable there.
21:40 That traction control system is excellent.
21:42 This did a really good job of maintaining momentum.
21:45 All right, let's go back again.
21:47 Okay, this time around we do this in four-wheel drive high range,
21:50 so I'm going to flick that over now, and let it engage.
21:53 So this is basically a cross-axle situation,
21:56 where we have only two tires with traction,
21:59 and we'll see how the car maintains itself through here.
22:03 So I'll just get it set up in that spot just there.
22:06 So I'm going to roll onto the throttle now with that front wheel off the ground.
22:10 We'll see how it performs.
22:13 I can feel the traction control biting.
22:18 Nice.
22:20 This is a really good system.
22:22 When we did our big SUV comparison,
22:24 this thing absolutely demolished the off-road course,
22:27 and it's just demonstrating here that it is arguably the king off-road.
22:32 I know a lot of people think the Land Cruiser is,
22:34 but I reckon this is right up there.
22:35 Okay, time for some hill climbing.
22:37 Now, our little hill here, it's okay in the dry, but in the wet,
22:42 it can just be a little bit challenging at times.
22:44 So to put it into low range, pop it over to neutral,
22:48 slide it over to four low.
22:50 That engages low range.
22:52 Also lock the rear diff lock just to be on the safe side,
22:56 so you can only do that when it's in low range.
22:59 All right, here we go.
23:00 So rear diff is locked.
23:02 What I'll do, I'll just climb this with gradual throttle,
23:05 and then we'll come back and climb it, come to a stop,
23:08 and then take off just to see what traction is like.
23:12 But here at the moment, it is getting up here without any dramas at all.
23:16 Those all-terrains are just fantastic for this type of thing.
23:19 They give you all the traction you need when you don't have it.
23:23 So there we go.
23:24 That was a piece of cake, and then we've got our little mud bath just here.
23:29 Okay, so time to test our hill descent control.
23:31 So I'm going to switch that on just there.
23:33 I will also put the camera on.
23:35 So there's actually a setting here.
23:37 Yeah, there it is, where it goes full screen.
23:38 Despite the camera not being very good quality,
23:40 it actually works a charm for this just to set up the line that you need.
23:46 It's very bitey, the traction control,
23:50 but it looks like I can actually adjust the speed using the cruise control switch.
23:55 So, yeah, it's actually effective, just noisy.
23:59 Okay, take two for the hill.
24:01 This time I'm going to basically climb it and come to a stop,
24:05 and then we'll take off.
24:06 We'll just see how well it performs doing that as the rain starts again.
24:11 So I'll bring it up to around here, come to a stop, roll onto the throttle.
24:16 Here we go.
24:18 A little bit of slip there, but it is masterfully climbing.
24:23 Very, very impressive.
24:24 Time to drive over some rocks.
24:26 So we do actually have a rock mode, so I've left it in low range.
24:30 We'll engage rock mode.
24:31 Oh, that's interesting.
24:32 So the throttle has become very dull.
24:35 So now with, like, gradual throttle inputs,
24:38 it's not anywhere near as sort of surgy, which is great,
24:41 because on rocks you don't want to be thrown over them.
24:44 So I'm just going to ride the brake with the throttle here.
24:47 So with over 300 mil of ground clearance,
24:49 this is the perfect setup for this type of rock driving,
24:54 especially with that underbody protection at the front.
24:56 This is so comfortable over this.
24:59 Unreal.
25:01 That is fantastic.
25:04 Not a single touch down there.
25:05 That is unreal.
25:07 You've got to remember as well, this is all covered by the warranty, too,
25:10 so it's kind of just like a win-win if you do want to modify it.
25:15 It's already pre-modified, and then it's covered by the warranty as well,
25:18 so everyone wins.
25:19 OK, time to go through our river.
25:22 We'll see what that's like.
25:24 OK, I'm going to lock the rear diff as well, just in case.
25:28 Okey-dokey, here we go.
25:30 So waiting depth of 700 mil, so it should be a piece of cake.
25:34 And at 700 mil before, you have the lift as well, so...
25:39 All right, come through here.
25:40 That parking sensor is annoying.
25:43 All right, here we go.
25:45 And I'm going to climb out of here as well.
25:49 That's like a bit of steam coming off the engine.
25:52 Beautiful.
25:54 Very nicely done.
25:56 Yeah, look, this is an absolute beast.
25:59 I cannot emphasize that enough.
26:01 And like I said before, you know, it gives you a Patrol,
26:05 which is a great vehicle beneath the skin.
26:07 Then it gives you usable off-road mods and a warranty to back it as well,
26:11 and at a price that isn't outrageous at all.
26:14 So, I don't know, seems like a really good package if you do want to go off-road.
26:19 So, Patrol Warrior, this is exactly what I was hoping it was going to be.
26:26 It took the Patrol, which is a great family SUV for off-roading and towing,
26:31 really just encompasses all of that fun stuff.
26:33 Yes, it doesn't have some of that technology,
26:35 but if you put that to the side, it has everything else that you want from a vehicle like this.
26:39 And then they've just taken it to the next level with the four-wheel-drive accessories
26:42 that you need to go just that little bit further.
26:45 Gives you accessories and modifications that are still covered by the warranty,
26:48 and it is still enormous fun to drive.
26:50 It is let down by those tyres.
26:52 I'm keen to test this in the dry to see if it's as bad as it is in the wet.
26:55 Ultimately, that is what you're going to have with all-terrains, just like it is on the Raptor,
26:59 but that is pretty much the only thing I can pick apart from this package.
27:02 So, let me know what you reckon.
27:03 Is this thing a beast?
27:04 Are you going to look at buying one?
27:06 Or, if you aren't, what are you going to look at buying instead?
27:08 Let me know in the comments section below.
