Tropical rainstorm set to target Jamaica

A tropical rainstorm swirling in the Caribbean is expected to hit Jamaica, as well as parts of Cuba and Haiti, before moving out into the Atlantic.

00:00 And what we have now is a situation
00:02 developing in the Caribbean.
00:03 We've been watching a cluster of
00:05 thunderstorms all week in the Caribbean,
00:07 and now we actually have something a little
00:09 bit more important to talk about.
00:11 Here's Jamaica right here,
00:12 and here's the area of concern
00:14 just off the coast of Jamaica.
00:16 We have a tropical rainstorm,
00:18 which is what we hear at Accuweather
00:20 referred to as a low pressure system
00:22 before it becomes a named storm.
00:24 Before it has all the organization,
00:26 we refer to it as a tropical rainstorm.
00:29 The Hurricane Center is referring to it as
00:31 potential tropical cyclone number 22.
00:33 I like tropical rainstorm better.
00:35 It has winds of 35 miles an hour near its center.
00:39 It's moving Northeast at about 9 miles an hour.
00:42 We have tropical storm.
00:43 Well, watches in place here folks
00:45 across portions of Jamaica,
00:46 eastern Cuba and some of the islands
00:49 there in the northern Caribbean.
00:50 The impacts will be felt here
00:52 through the weekend.
00:54 Look at all this rain that we're
00:56 getting forecast here folks and
00:58 we're going to see some of the
01:00 other local local storm acts of
01:02 20 inches on the southern shores
01:04 of Cuba and possibly Jamaica as well.
01:06 This will not directly impact the US,
01:08 but if you have any interest here
01:10 in the Turks and Caicos and into
01:12 eastern Cuba, Jamaica,
01:13 you see the wind gusts 40 to 60
01:15 miles an hour through Saturday.

01:21 Caribbean and you see where the
01:22 worst of the impacts are going to be.
01:25 This storm will get caught up on
01:26 as most likely a subtropical storm.
