00:00 Pumpkin spice lattes or PSL for short have become as much a part of autumn as crunchy
00:06 leaves and Halloween. For those not in the know let me fill you in. Generally a mixture
00:10 of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice and cloves. It started life as a spice mixture
00:16 put into pumpkin pie and it's one of my favourite stateside imports. I'm going to local Liverpool
00:21 independents as well as one well known chain to do a taste test to find the best to tickle
00:26 your taste buds this spooky season. Lucy in the Sky is an absolutely gorgeous independent
00:33 restaurant just by the town hall. First of all can I say I'm absolutely loving the commitment
00:39 to Halloween with their window decor and wow look at the presentation of this. You even get
00:45 some little chocolates on the side. You've got the marshmallow all of that whipped cream which
00:51 actually had to use a spoon to get through before I could fully get to the drink. Now this did
00:56 look absolutely gorgeous I was so excited to try this however the pumpkin spice was not spicing.
01:03 I couldn't really taste any of the syrup that was in there. It was decent for a latte but as far as
01:10 pumpkin spice lattes go it wasn't really doing it for me unfortunately. We're in the car for
01:17 the review of this one because they do takeaways and this is the Derek's pumpkin spice latte. It's
01:23 the cheapest it might be the smallest as well but all important taste test. That is delicious it was
01:33 really nice you can definitely get a taste of that lovely pumpkin spice with the first sip. It's a
01:41 good temperature but it has been wait in a minute. It's sweet as you'd expect it to be but it's not
01:47 overly sweet. There's almost there's almost a slight citrusy note to it. It's not got all the
01:54 bells and whistles of some other ones you know no whipped cream heavy syrup sugary toppings.
02:02 It just is a decent latte. I think it's fair to say that Starbucks brought pumpkin spice into all
02:10 our collective consciousnesses. Now of course I went for the cream and the caramel drizzle on top
02:15 because in for a penny in for a pound. In hindsight does it actually need it? It is incredibly sweet.
02:25 I actually couldn't finish this. The first few sips are delicious they're exactly what you'd expect
02:32 with the pumpkin spice however as I got further down the drink I just found it too saccharine
02:40 and just too heavy on my stomach. Now that I'm practically vibrating from all that caffeine and
02:46 sugar it's only fair to give you the results. I have to say Derek's gets my vote. I got mine
02:51 from their shop on Allerton Road though they also have a place in Crosby. The sandwich shop has
02:56 cinched it for me by serving up a nicely spiced yet not overly sweet PSL. Cheers!
