00:00 What is it, eight or ten days on the show?
00:01 Like no phone, no?
00:02 - A day too many.
00:04 A day too many.
00:05 A day too many.
00:06 That chicken and water wasn't cutting it for me.
00:08 - Hey, we've been better off
00:09 going out and hunting for our own again.
00:10 - Hell yeah.
00:12 Yeah.
00:12 - Besides the food, what was other things
00:14 that was some of the most challenging parts
00:15 of being on this course?
00:16 It's like eight days or ten days.
00:17 What was the most challenging part for you guys?
00:19 - Well, I'm a clean freak.
00:20 So like, I shower at least twice a day
00:22 and you didn't have that.
00:24 The bathroom situation was like, it was bad.
00:29 - I think exposing yourself in front of the ladies
00:32 because you think about when you get ready
00:34 to put your clothes on, you just take your clothes off.
00:36 You got to realize this ain't an athletic dorm.
00:38 This ain't an athletic, where there's other guys,
00:40 there's young ladies and so you had to be respectful.
00:42 So, and plus having to ask someone
00:45 to go to the bathroom with you
00:46 because you couldn't go anywhere by yourself.
00:49 - Yeah.
00:50 - It was insane.
00:51 I mean, definitely showering in front of Tyler Cameron.
00:53 I was like, oh, he was respectful and turned his back.
00:56 But when he showered, I tried to make a peek
00:58 here and there.
00:59 - There you go, live.
01:01 - That's funny, yo.
01:01 And it's crazy because I haven't seen anything
01:04 for season two, but I saw season one
01:05 and they're like, if you're not doing them fast enough,
01:07 they'll be like this, faster.
01:08 Or they'll make you do things.
01:09 I'm like, yo, this show really brings out a lot.
01:12 Go on, Robert, what were you about to say, Rob?
01:13 - So you think about having to take off wet clothes,
01:16 how hard that is.
01:17 They yelling at you to take off your wet clothes
01:20 and you know, I'm 6'10" and so you got young ladies
01:23 over here and you got a camera in your face
01:26 and you're trying to take clothes off
01:27 without trying to hit anybody or show anybody something.
01:30 And it was so hard and they just steady it.
01:32 I got to a point where I just like,
01:34 doo-doo-doo-doo-doo, I'm not gonna listen to you
01:35 'cause I can't go any faster because I'm not trying
01:38 to have my privates on TV.
01:41 - That could be trouble though, that could be trouble.
01:42 - They didn't pay us enough for that.
01:44 - I know, actually, it's like all the show is about pride.
01:47 It's not even about any money, it's about pride,
01:49 but it pushes people to the limit,
01:50 mentally, physically, emotionally.
01:52 What even made you guys wanna do a show like this?
01:55 - For me, it was the last show I watched with my parents
01:58 and I knew that they would be able to watch it
02:00 so it was a way to connect and for them to feel like
02:03 they were still a part of the everyday life
02:04 that was happening.
02:05 So that was by far my number one motivator.
02:08 - And how was the fans, when they see this show,
02:11 what do you think they're gonna say when they see it?
02:12 'Cause it's gonna roll out September 25th.
02:14 What is they gonna say?
02:15 What Pop's gonna say, what Mom's gonna say?
02:16 Give it to me.
02:17 - They're gonna be so excited 'cause like,
02:18 they're gonna get to sit there and watch it
02:20 and I think just seeing that I'm continuing
02:23 to put one foot in front of the other,
02:25 I think it's just gonna be really motivating for them
02:28 and hopefully gives them the strength
02:29 to continue to get through each day.
02:32 - And continue to get through each day.
02:33 This bond, I'm seeing it now, but was this a bond
02:36 when you guys were filming too, you two?
02:38 - We slept next to each other.
02:39 It was our sleeping buddies.
02:42 - Now you in nice clothes now, right?
02:43 On the record, but then you weren't.
02:45 - Yeah, it was so funny because I was trying to be
02:47 so respectful of her and all of a sudden you roll over
02:51 and you see her looking at me
02:52 and we started just talking to each other
02:53 and we developed this friendship that was,
02:56 that was actually really cool because I knew who she was,
02:59 but I didn't know her story because sometimes
03:01 you don't wanna talk to people about these stories,
03:04 but she was forthcoming, I was forthcoming,
03:06 and I kinda made us have a special bond.
03:08 - Did you know, I might say,
03:09 did you know who Big Robert was?
03:10 Did you have to Google him?
03:12 - Okay, so when I found out he was on it,
03:14 'cause I did some digging, right?
03:16 Like before the show, I found a list
03:18 and I was like, ooh, this is this person, whatever.
03:20 I told Grayson, the 17 year old, and he flipped out.
03:25 He was like, are you kidding me?
03:26 Do you not know who that is?
03:27 He was like, he is like, he's the greatest human being ever.
03:32 And so it was, and it was really cool sitting there
03:35 listening to his stories of people he played with,
03:38 like his best game, his worst game, all the cool stories,
03:43 but also I feel like you learn a lot about someone
03:46 when you hear about their trauma and how they endured it
03:48 and that was the coolest part,
03:50 was just seeing that everyone has their own shit
03:53 that they struggle with and it's a daily battle,
03:56 but somehow you figure out how to put one foot
03:58 in front of the other and hearing his story,
04:00 it's like just hearing him talk about his daughter
04:03 and then I look at my situation, I'm like, you know what?
04:05 At least I still have my parents to go and talk to.
04:07 They may not be here, but at least I still get to,
04:10 and it just puts everything into perspective
04:12 and I just laughed having so much respect
04:14 and love for him that it's insane.
04:17 - This show puts everything in perspective
04:19 and I'm glad you told me about his bond
04:20 because this is a champ, this is a champ right here.
04:22 So champ, you've been going to the finals,
04:24 you've been to the championship,
04:25 how would you compare this to doing to this show?
04:27 How would you compare that?
04:29 - You can't compare it because I knew my opponent going in.
04:33 You didn't know what task he was gonna do.
04:35 You think about it, we blindfolded,
04:37 all of a sudden you rip it off
04:38 and you're standing like over this gorge,
04:40 I don't know how, what, like 600 feet down?
04:42 - Yeah, it was crazy.
04:43 - And it's like, walk across that, I'm like, no.
04:46 So it's just so many things that you were unprepared for,
04:50 but a couple of things you was like, okay, I can do this,
04:52 like the marching in the heels.
04:54 No, we've done that to train,
04:55 we get ready for a season,
04:56 but not with a 35 pound pack on your back,
04:59 not in boots, not in the snow.
05:01 It's so many elements and so many aspects
05:03 that came into play that it made the whole challenge
05:06 difficult but in a little way, fun.
05:08 - See, it sounded like Rob was saying no to a couple things
05:11 and in season one, you can't say no,
05:12 like the thing called staff, staff, staff.
05:14 You gotta say yes, staff, no, staff, so Rob,
05:17 were you like giving them a hard time?
05:18 Were you the one getting disciplined like?
05:20 Like, that's what I'm hearing right now.
05:21 - No, no, that wasn't me.
05:22 It was just one task.
05:24 And I think, you know, it was the very, very,
05:26 very, very first task.
05:27 And the whole mindset was, okay,
05:29 you go down, you go across the trapeze.
05:31 But my problem was I couldn't get through the damn hole
05:33 to get down to the platform.
05:34 It took me five minutes to get through the hole.
05:36 - I'm not talking him, Mike.
05:38 - I'm like this struggling,
05:39 and so my whole mindset kind of changed after that.
05:42 And I'm like, they ain't prepared for me.
05:44 And so it kind of threw me off a little bit, yeah.
05:47 - That leads to my next question.
05:48 Was there any injuries?
05:49 Because I asked Angela back then,
05:51 and she said, yeah, I kind of injured a little something.
05:53 Something you guys, 'cause there's some crazy challenges.
05:55 Did you guys, uh-oh, I wanna know exactly what you said.
05:58 You're smiling.
06:00 Tell me about this injury.
06:01 - I don't, I have an injury.
06:03 I can't feel my big toe,
06:05 but that's because they put me in size 14s,
06:07 and I wear a 15, and I was determined to wear their boots
06:09 and do the show the proper way.
06:11 But other than that, I didn't,
06:12 just being sore each and every night,
06:14 it was, other than that, I had no issues.
06:16 - I mean, I just left with some bruises, but it's fine.
06:19 - She's like, that's a bruise, but I'm fine.
06:21 - She said tough cookies.
06:22 Oh, she left her cookies on the dam.
06:23 Yeah.
06:24 - Oh, wow.
06:25 Okay, that's why I was like,
06:27 they did not pay me enough to get this puke and shot
06:29 of me going all the way down the dam.
06:31 I was like, nah.
06:32 - Did you ever wanna quit?
06:33 Like, was there a point where you're like this?
06:35 I might have to tell them.
06:37 - Hell yeah.
06:37 - Well, it got to a point where she and Brian and I
06:42 sat together and we talked.
06:43 And we kind of talked each other off the ledge
06:46 and we all kind of stuck around.
06:48 But then I think Brian and I
06:51 deuced her out and left her on her own.
06:54 (laughing)
06:55 - I know, all my friends left me.
06:57 - When this show comes out, you guys,
07:00 what do you hope America learns about you
07:02 that they probably didn't know about you guys?
07:04 - I think for me, it's just,
07:07 like, life's been really challenging
07:09 and it's been really difficult,
07:11 but even in the midst of the difficulty,
07:13 I chose to show up.
07:14 And I think and just hope people
07:18 learn to give each other some grace
07:20 because you never truly know what someone's going through.
07:23 And even though, sure, like,
07:24 both my parents are sitting in federal prison right now,
07:26 but that doesn't give you a reason to treat me
07:28 like I'm a piece of garbage.
07:30 And, you know, people don't have to be.
07:32 There are mistakes.
07:32 People don't have to.
07:34 And that's the biggest thing.
07:35 It's just maybe open your eyes
07:37 to something other than yourself
07:39 and see what's impacting others.
07:41 (upbeat music)
07:44 (upbeat music)
07:47 (upbeat music)
07:50 (upbeat music)
07:53 (upbeat music)
