00:00Liam Payne's cause of death has been revealed.
00:03The singer died of multiple trauma
00:04and internal and external bleeding
00:06as a result of falling from the third floor balcony
00:08of his hotel in Buenos Aires,
00:10according to the Argentina National Prosecutor's Office.
00:13The preliminary autopsy report included
00:15that authorities seized substances from his room
00:17and interviewed five witnesses,
00:19three hotel workers and two women,
00:21all of whom had left the hotel before his death.
00:24Though the report's findings indicate that he was alone
00:26and appeared to suffer a substance abuse-related breakdown,
00:29the prosecutor's office is still investigating
00:31the incident as a doubtful death, as a matter of protocol.
00:34As previously reported, hotel staff called 911
00:37shortly before Liam's death to ask for help
00:39with one of their guests, who the employee claimed
00:41was under the influence of drugs and alcohol
00:43and tearing up their room.
00:45Liam was not named in the call,
00:46and by the time police arrived,
00:47the beloved One Direction member
00:49had already fallen and died from his injuries.
00:52In a separate statement, also translated from Spanish,
00:54police noted that the manager had heard a loud noise
00:56at the back of the hotel,
00:57and once authorities had arrived,
00:59they confirmed Liam had thrown himself from the balcony.
01:02The autopsy report also details
01:03that coroners reported 25 injuries
01:05that are compatible with those caused
01:07by a fall from a height.
01:08It added that no defensive wounds were found
01:10or injuries that would suggest a third party was involved,
01:13and the prosecutor's office also said
01:15that given the position in which the body was left
01:17and the injuries from the fall,
01:18it is presumed that Payne did not adopt a reflex posture
01:20to protect himself and that he could have fallen
01:22in a state of semi or total unconsciousness.
01:25Toxicology reports are pending.
01:28The singer is survived by his seven-year-old son, Bear,
01:31whom he shares with ex and singer Cheryl.
