00:00He would always message me ever since we broke up,
00:04like, oh, I'm not well, he would always play with death
00:07and be like, well, I'm gonna die, I'm not doing well.
00:11Liam Payne's ex-fiance, Maya Henry,
00:13claimed the singer had appeared to threaten his own death
00:16before his tragic passing.
00:18Speaking on the Internet is Dead podcast recently,
00:20the author claimed that Liam had previously sent her messages
00:23after they split where he would, quote, play with death.
00:26I always felt like it was a manipulation tactic
00:28to keep me, I don't know, it's kind of complicated,
00:31but I always felt like it was so that I could continue
00:34to feel bad for him and,
00:36because he would always message me ever since we broke up,
00:40like, oh, I'm not well, he would always play with death
00:43and be like, well, I'm gonna die, I'm not doing well.
00:46And there was one time I tried to get him help
00:50and then he was like not taking it.
00:53He would text my mom, I'm not doing well,
00:55have Maya contact me, because I wouldn't respond.
00:58And it's just always the same cycle.
01:00And every time that, like, for example,
01:02when I announced my book, he did the same thing.
01:05He called my mom, I think I'm not gonna be around
01:07much longer.
01:08And-
01:09Oh my God.
01:10And I don't play with death.
01:11So I'm like, if you say this, I'm gonna try and help you
01:14no matter what you've done.
01:15And I think he took advantage of my family's kindness.
01:18And I was like, if you wanna go back to rehab,
01:21I'll help you even though, you know, whatever.
01:23And not that I ever wanted to be back with him,
01:26but he's still somebody's child.
01:29He's somebody's brother.
01:30Like if that were my brother, you know,
01:32I would want someone to help him too.
01:34And so, but I always just, in the end,
01:37I felt like it was a manipulation.
01:39And I'm like, especially after everything you've done,
01:40I've told you to leave me alone.
01:42She then claimed that there were recent events
01:44that she couldn't speak on legally,
01:46adding that it had gotten much worse.
01:48And also said that up even until her book
01:50titled Looking Forward was released in May,
01:53she would get calls from people in his life
01:54saying that it wasn't a good time for him,
01:56which she again categorized as a manipulation tactic.
01:59I know the lifestyle he lives
02:01and there is a day where something bad is going to happen.
02:05So I would always be like, okay, he's saying these things.
02:08I have to help him because if I don't,
02:10I will never be able to live with myself
02:12if something does happen to him.
02:13Because, you know, as I said, he's a father,
02:17he has a family, like I just want to help.
02:19And I mean, up even until my book was coming out,
02:24even one of his friends was calling me and my mom
02:27being like, oh, you know, this isn't a good time for him.
02:32I don't think you should put the book out.
02:34You know, he's not doing well.
02:35And if something happens to him,
02:38not only are you going to blame yourself,
02:40but the whole world's going to blame you.
02:42And so I was like, just the fact that they just keep trying,
02:45I'm like, it is, like you said,
02:48such a low manipulation tactic, it's disturbing.
02:52Yeah.
02:54The book is fiction, but inspired by true events,
02:56Maya said, and centers around a woman
02:58falling in love with a quote, former boy bander,
03:00despite fame, attention, and personal demons
03:02that threatened them both.
03:04One of the events in the book
03:05includes the main character, Mallory,
03:06getting an abortion and suffering complications.
03:09Maya told People Magazine that what she went through
03:11in real life is very similar to what the character did.
03:14Maya added that she also had complications like Mallory
03:16and had to go to the hospital alone.
03:18She also noted to the outlet about her own procedure,
03:21quote, if it were up to me, I wouldn't have done it.
03:23But then also, if I were to have made a different decision,
03:25then I would have lost the person that I loved.
03:27There were definitely difficult conversations about it,
03:30but looking back now, things happened for a reason.
03:33The model had also released a TikTok
03:35just days before her ex's passing,
03:36defending herself from people coming after her online.
03:39Okay, I'm going to address some of these comments
03:42and kind of break it down.
03:44So I've been seeing ones like this everywhere,
03:46and honestly, ones that say
03:50she needs to keep his name out of her mouth.
03:53She's obsessed, blah, blah, blah.
03:54They broke up years ago.
03:57Well, I made a five-second TikTok
04:01about something he talked about on a podcast.
04:03He was the one airing out
04:04everyone's dirty laundry on a podcast.
04:07So it's okay for him to talk shit,
04:09but the minute I make a five-second video, it's over, right?
04:14Also, you're calling me obsessed.
04:16Oh, she's crazy.
04:17This is what happens when you are with someone
04:20who's obsessed, blah, blah, blah.
04:23Y'all don't even know what happens
04:24behind closed doors or in private.
04:26Ever since we broke up, he messages me,
04:29will blow up my phone, mind you,
04:33not only from his phone number.
04:34It's always from different phone numbers too,
04:36so I never know where it's going to come from.
04:39He'll create new iCloud accounts to iMessage me.
04:43It's always a damn new iCloud account.
04:45I'm like, every time I see one pop up on my phone,
04:46I'm like, here we fuck you again.
04:49Also, will email me.
04:53And he does this when he gets his phone taken away.
04:57Also, not only me, but he'll blow up my mom's phone.
05:02Is that normal behavior to you?
05:05But I'm crazy for making a five-second TikTok
05:08about something that he brought to the internet.
05:12Liam Payne passed October 16th
05:13after falling from a hotel balcony
05:15in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
05:17Someone at the hotel where the singer was staying
05:19called 911 to report a guest's apparent erratic behavior,
05:22saying, quote, we have a guest who is overindulged
05:25in drugs and alcohol and, well, when he is conscious,
05:27he breaks, he's breaking the whole room.
05:29Well, we need you to send someone, please,
05:31according to audio obtained via local media by Telemundo.
05:34They added, the guest is in a room that has a balcony
05:37and, well, we are a little afraid
05:38that he might do something life-threatening.
05:41After his death, People reported that,
05:43according to a source, the singer was extremely overwhelmed
05:46by legal issues with Maya.
05:48Liam is survived by his seven-year-old son, Bear,
05:50whom he shares with his ex and singer, Cheryl.
