00:00 Hi, I'm Mark Dunford and I'm here with today's Sussex World Daily Bulletin on Wednesday,
00:05 September 6th, 2023.
00:08 A public outcry has erupted over a West Sussex factory that has installed new equipment on
00:12 its premises without planning permission.
00:15 People living near the factory, multi-installations of Victoria Gardens, Burgess Hill, say their
00:19 lives have been made unbearable by the noise from it in the past 18 months.
00:23 They say the site is an eyesore and that the noise from it is so bad they have been unable
00:27 to use their gardens in the summer.
00:31 Multi-installations is currently seeking retrospective planning permission for the installation of
00:35 a steel racking storage frame and power coat oven, but residents maintain that other equipment
00:40 has also been installed without planning consent.
00:43 Floods of protests have been submitted to the council and Burgess Hill Town Council
00:46 is also urging planners to turn down the application.
00:51 A rare and historic signal box has been given a new lease of life and a new home in Sussex.
00:56 The signal box, a Saxby and Farmer Type 1 beat box dating to before 1876, used to stand
01:03 at the level crossing in Billingshurst.
01:05 Now it has undergone extensive repairs and is on display at Amberley Museum, where it
01:10 complements a railway ticket office originally from Hove that has been also re-homed there.
01:15 The signal box, built for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, was listed as being
01:19 historic interest and when Network Rail decided to widen the Burgess Hill level crossing and
01:24 modernise the signal system, it was decided to save the box by offering it to the museum.
01:31 Emergency services are standing down after carrying out a major search for a man seen
01:35 in distress off the coast of West Wittering.
01:37 A young man was seen struggling off the coast of the popular beach shortly before 9pm on
01:41 Monday night, sparking a major search involving lifeboats, helicopters and drones.
01:46 The search effort has now been called off.
01:50 Extension plans to create 14 new homes at an Eastbourne Council office block has been
01:54 approved following multiple previous refusals.
01:57 The site is located on Upperton Road and currently consists of an office building.
02:02 The application, which was refused then resubmitted, sought planning permission for a 6th storey
02:07 upward extension to form 14 residential dwellings, including the provision of storage, refuse
02:13 storage, car parking and secure cycle parking.
02:16 St Mark's in Upperton Road is the East Sussex County Council main office for children's
02:21 services for under 18s and their families.
02:24 The existing building was built in the 1960s.
02:27 The central part of the 6th storey will be filled in and a 7th storey would have been
02:32 created as part of the plans as proposed to the Council.
