00:00 Hello, my name's Laurence Smith, and this is your Sussex World News Bulletin for Wednesday,
00:05 September 27th, 2023.
00:08 The Christmas Store at Crawley Garden Centre is set to open its doors next month.
00:12 In the run-up to Christmas, the shop offers everything people need to decorate their home
00:16 interiors.
00:17 At Crawley Garden Centre, people can also find a diverse selection of gifts, such as
00:22 toys, puzzles, games, stockings and pet products.
00:25 The leader of Chichester District Council is set to write to the Secretary of State
00:29 for Transport to oppose the closure of railway ticket offices.
00:33 Southern Railway will be invited to send a representative to meet with members of the
00:37 Scrutiny Committee to discuss the planned closures and how they will impact passengers
00:41 and staff at Chichester, Bosham and Southbourne stations.
00:45 During a meeting of the full council on Tuesday, members supported a motion from James Vivian,
00:50 Lib Dem, Chichester Central, which called for action to be taken.
00:54 Speaking of the plans to close up to 1,000 ticket offices over the next three years,
00:59 Mr Vivian said, "Ticket offices at Chichester Railway Station are a local lifeline for residents
01:05 without access to the internet or left behind by the pace of technological change."
01:10 National Highways is encouraging motorists to be prepared for stormy weather this week
01:15 and plan ahead for their next journeys on its network.
01:18 Storm Agnes has been named by the Met Office as a deep area of low pressure which will
01:22 impact much of the UK on Wednesday and into Thursday.
01:26 National Highways advises that in high winds there is a particular risk to lorries, caravans
01:31 and motorbikes, so drivers should slow down and avoid using exposed sections of road if possible.
01:37 Drivers are being urged to have a safe TRIP by using a new journey planning checklist.
01:44 The checklist is based on four key principles.
01:47 1. Topping up fuel.
01:50 2. Resting every two hours.
01:52 3. Inspecting tyre pressure and tread.
01:55 4. Preparing for all weather conditions.
