00:06 If it goes well, then obviously it may attract other sports and other events
00:12 like this to the town. For the town itself, if we get some good shots it
00:18 attract tourism. If people come in to watch it, people will be
00:24 selling more stuff. So it's beneficial for the business people. Is it
00:28 beneficial for the residents? I'll leave you to answer that one.
00:33 Yeah, so we're all involved in heritage and culture in the town. So
00:37 obviously anything like this that brings people into the town to enjoy our
00:42 beautiful marketplace and the history and heritage around it is great.
00:46 It's really, Newark's got some fantastic spaces to use as well.
00:49 Yeah, absolutely.
00:50 Great location.
00:51 I think they're absolutely wonderful. It puts us on the map. It works for the shops, for the
00:56 cafes, for the restaurants, tourism, everything. People are coming to the town
01:01 to take part in the cycle races. They're probably staying overnight as well so
01:05 the hotels are doing well. It's a win for the town. That's it.
01:10 It's good to bring people into the area to get people to know what Newark is and
01:15 about because it's good for the economy and bringing in money for the area.
01:19 I think these events are beneficial because they bring people into the town
01:24 where they spend money on food, drink and perhaps buy souvenirs or things from
01:30 local shops. So it's very beneficial to welcome people into the town.
01:37 Shut all the roads, people won't come into town. Everything's locked off, the car parks are locked off.
01:43 So you've got to be out at a certain time or else your car gets locked in.
01:48 Cancel all the buses, bus services. So I don't think it's beneficial.
01:54 It's just a bite through Newark. So it's not really beneficial. You don't make any money out of it
01:59 because people don't come in the shop. The roads are closed, you can't come in with your car.
02:05 I think it's cool how it puts Newark on the map and I think it's great it brings so many people to the town.
02:10 It's such a small town, it's great to have so many people come and visit. So yeah, it's great.
02:15 I think it can only be beneficial for Newark. It's a national event.
02:21 It brings a lot of excitement to the area, a lot of interest in Newark.
02:26 People maybe have never seen Newark and if it goes round actually through the town, it's a lovely town.
02:31 So it puts it on the map. So yeah, I think overall it can only be beneficial.
02:36 It only lasts half a day or whatever. So it doesn't incommode people particularly.
02:42 And I think the local population have a big buzz from seeing something national come through the East Midlands.
02:47 The East Midlands is a very poor area in terms of interest.
02:51 So anything that brings interest to the East Midlands is good.
02:55 I think it brings advertising. People who are interested in cycling will come and see how it runs.
03:08 A friend of mine, he lives in Hull and the cycling went through Hull.
03:16 And he was there at the front making sure he could see the cyclists.
03:21 He even travels to France to see them cycling over the Alps.
03:25 So yeah, I think it's good for a small place like Newark. Yes, absolutely.
