00:10 to show you two cute messy bun hairstyles.
00:13 On my channel, I'm going to show you a fishtail braided messy bun
00:17 while my friend Megan, who also has a hair channel called Megan Elizabeth 9,
00:21 will show you another cute messy bun hairstyle.

00:28 Place your thumb behind your ears and gather all the hair from ear to ear into a half-up ponytail.
00:33 [Music]
00:35 Since we're not going to be redoing this later,
00:37 use a comb to smooth out the sides before tying it up with an elastic band.
00:40 [Music]
00:46 And then pull out some of the hair on the crown to create volume in the hair.
00:50 We want this messy bun to look lived in.

00:54 Now we can clip away the ponytail.
00:56 [Music]
00:57 After applying some hair wax to create separation in the hair,
01:01 take a two-inch section and split it in half.
01:03 [Music]
01:09 We're going to start this French fishtail braid by taking the bottom section over the right
01:14 and then start adding in hair to these two sections.
01:16 When you take hair from the top, you add it to the bottom section.
01:20 So grab some hair at the top and add it to the bottom section.

01:29 But when you take hair from the bottom, you add it to the top section.
01:32 And this is how you do a basic French fishtail braid.

01:43 Again, take some hair from the top and add it to the bottom strand.
01:47 [Music]
01:51 Take some hair from the bottom and add that to the top strand.
01:54 [Music]
01:56 I'll talk you through this just once more.
01:58 Take some hair from the top and add it to the bottom section.

02:05 And hair from the bottom goes right into the top section.
02:08 It's pretty easy, right?
02:10 And as you're braiding, pull the hair towards the ponytail to prevent any weird sags at the end.
02:15 And remember that when you're adding in hair to these sections,
02:18 that you're placing it in the inner area as if you're doing a regular fishtail braid.
02:22 So this is going to be pretty easy for you to do on your own hair until you get to the opposite ear.
02:28 And then it's going to start feeling really awkward braiding upwards towards the ponytail.
02:33 So what we're going to do is flip our head upside down.
02:36 But before we flip our head, we have to reposition our hands.

02:41 Just like this.
02:42 [Music]
02:47 Okay?
02:48 And then we flip our head and continue braiding.
02:50 [Music]
02:58 And then we're going to finish off this French braid with normal fishtail braid.

03:10 Next, wrap the braid around the ponytail and tie them up together.
03:14 [Music]
03:19 If you want to wear this as a cute fishtail braided ponytail,
03:22 wrap a thin strand of hair around the band to make it fancy.
03:26 And this is actually how I prefer to wear it.
03:28 But let me know in the comment section which way you like it best.
03:31 The ponytail version or the messy bun.

03:38 Now to wear this as a messy bun,
03:40 get another elastic band and use it as if you're making a ponytail.
03:43 But on the last twist, pull the hair only halfway through
03:47 and wrap the ends around the base of the ponytail
03:49 before securing it with a bobby pin.
03:51 [Music]
03:55 And then start tugging on the sides of the bun to make it big and voluminous.
03:59 Secure everything down with a bobby pin if it gets too big or messy looking.
04:03 And yank on the middle of the bun if you want to move the bun more towards your face like in a top knot.
04:07 And we're done!
