00:00 What is the role of Novartis in the sustainability of the region?
00:05 Novartis has been engaged in a long-term, medium-term and short-term program in the field of sustainability for several years.
00:13 At the moment we have a program called Carbon Neutral for 2030, which is our long-term program,
00:20 in which there are very specific goals on the supply chain of our suppliers
00:27 and on environmental sustainability in terms of energy.
00:31 As a result, all these goals are, among other things, very well incorporated into a governance of the company,
00:37 which starts from our delegated administrator and therefore sees as an integral part of the goals of all Novartis management,
00:43 those of environmental sustainability.
00:45 The Torre Annunziata plant is currently one of the largest poles for innovation within the group
00:51 and one of the largest poles of solid-oral pharmaceutical production in the field of Novartis.
00:57 The campus actually hosts the production plant because within it there are realities,
01:03 startups, university spin-offs, connections with research centers,
01:08 the largest universities also in the Campanian territory,
01:11 which constantly allow us to innovate in the field of sustainability.
01:15 For example, we obviously use a lot of packaging or tertiary materials such as paper
01:22 or primary materials such as PVC, plastic materials.
01:26 All this is within a very well organized study with research centers, universities and our specialists,
01:34 in order to always find eco-sustainable materials.
01:38 In particular, the idea of the campus for innovation is to create an ecosystem
01:43 in which the realities of the startup type, research centers, can coexist with the production plant
01:50 and therefore constantly provide the best innovations to be able to apply also within the pharmaceutical production processes,
01:58 which certainly bring a direct advantage to the environment.
02:02 Energetically speaking, we are obviously extremely attentive to CO2 emissions.
02:07 This is a golden opportunity because we are able to support ourselves as an electric energy production
02:14 also with specific plants.
02:16 All this in fact reaches our patients even better in the world
02:20 because it has a link to the circular economy,
02:23 as we obviously manage to optimize the production costs of our innovative therapies
02:28 and therefore be more accessible to the markets around the world.
