The Mombasa Procession

The city of Mombasa in Kenya is home to the country’s largest Shia community. As part of the Shia faith’s major practices and rituals, Muharram mourning ceremonies are regularly and peacefully held in Kenya’s second largest city. The documentary tries to shed light on how the Shia in Mombasa hold their largest procession on the Day of Ashura, while respecting the followers of other religions there and disseminating Islam’s message of peace and Imam Hussein’s ideals of justice and refusal to bow to tyranny.
