Hailing from Sydney’s northern beaches, young indie-folk songstress Ella Freestone fuses together vivid storytelling and ethereal vocals to capture the imagination. Drawing on rockers like Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell, Ella blends together her love of edgy folk/rock, with her long training as a polished vocal chorister, to bring audiences a unique musical experience.
Ella started playing classical violin at just 3 years old, trading it in for self-taught piano and guitar in the beginning of high school. Ella began songwriting and performing original material at age 14, busking on the streets of beachside town Manly, whist also training and performing internationally with the Australian Girls Choir of which she was a member for 8 years.
As a solo performer, Ella has captivated audiences at venues such as the Sydney Opera House and The Metro Theatre, as well as intimate music venues all over Sydney. Ella has shared the stage with the likes of Vanessa Amorosi, Christine Anu, Bob Evans, and Hugh Jackman, and has performed live and studio backing vocals for TV series 'Australian Idol' and 'X-Factor'. In 2014 Ella travelled and performed for two months in West Canada, and recorded and collaborated with seasoned Canadian musician Vince Vaccaro.
At the end of 2015 Ella completed her Bachelors degree in Arts and Communication at the University of Technology Sydney, and is now focusing on music full time, playing gigs around Sydney, and working on developing and recording her debut EP.
