KARACHI: Three people were crushed to death on Thursday by speeding trawler in the Qayyumabad area of Karachi, ARY News reported.

The incident took place near Akhtar Colony where a Quetta-registered ten-wheeler trailer crushed three people to death. The dead includes a disabled beggar, security guard and a motorcyclist.

Two children of the motorcyclist were also injured in the incident. A traffic official at the site of the incident was hesitant to share further details of the incident.

DIG Traffic Police speaking to media said that it needs to be ascertained whether it was a case of over-speeding. He confirmed that the driver had escaped from the scene of the incident but will be apprehended soon.

He said that heavy vehicles were allowed on the route to deliver essential items such a food and medicines, and that trailers frequently use the route towards the Karachi Port Trust as they are barred from other localities.

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed to arrest the reckless driver. He also called for an inquiry and detailed report from DIG East.
