A 20-year-old Canadian man named Devin Scullion died on Sunday after a relatively long battle with progeria, a rare accelerated aging disorder.
A Canadian man who had an accelerated aging disorder died on Sunday at age 20, reports CBC News.
Jamie Madley posted a tribute to her son, Devin Scullion, on Instagram, writing, “Forever in my heart. Tomorrow will not be the same without you, thank you for allowing me to be your mother. I love you so much RIP my beautiful baby boy xoxo.”
She then added, “Lord please give me the strength to get thru this.”
Scullion was an infant when he was found to have the rare genetic condition called progeria, or “Benjamin Button disease.”
As a result, he suffered from a variety of health issues including arthritis and strokes, notes Global News.
Doctors had given him a life expectancy of around 13 years, but Scullion was able to beat that estimate thanks to social support and an experimental drug called Lonafarnib.
He was reportedly the second oldest person in the world with the condition.
