Four-year-old boy dies in another escalator accident in China

CHONGQING, CHINA ? A four-year-old boy has died after becoming wedged under an escalator handrail on Thursday morning in the city of Chongqing.
The boy appears to have been playing with the handrail unsupervised before he fell under it.
The incident took place at Chongqing?s Hongqiaohegou subway station. Local metro authorities said a mother had brought her four-year-old son and three-year-old daughter into the subway station, and left them by themselves in the ticketing area.
The boy was playing with the handrail at an escalator when he fell and had his chest wedged between the bottom of the handrail and the ground.
Staff workers at the station shut down the escalator after 20 seconds, according to local news reports. They were able to get the boy out, but he later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The Chongqing Rail Transport Authority said in a statement through its Weibo account that they were beginning an investigation are are offering the family assistance.
