New York mother tosses baby out sixth-floor apartment window
NEW YORK — Residents of an apartment building in the Bronx were in shock after witnessing a baby girl get thrown out of a sixth-floor apartment to her death.
The New York Times reports that on Thursday afternoon, 27-year-old seen Tenisha Fearon was throwing things out her sixth-floor window as neighbors tried to calm her down. She was heard screaming 'Halleujah, praise God, we're all going to die!' while dangling her infant daughter, Junilah Lawrence, out the window. Moments later, Fearon reportedly released the baby, who fell to the pavement below.
Fearon then laid down on the floor with her three other children, a son, aged 10, and two daughters aged 8 and 3, all of them naked, according to the New York Times. Officers who responded to the scene after neighbors called 911 had to break down the door to get into the apartment. They found the baby on the pavement and rushed her to St. Barnabas Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead an hour later, reports PIX11.
Fearon was sent to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation and is in police custody while awaiting charges, reports CBS.
According to Reuters, the baby's death marks the third time in three months that a mother has thrown her baby out of a window in New York City.
