Personnel from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre recently spotted a juvenile killer whale with large scrapes on its body.

Killer whales are among the ocean’s mightiest creatures, but even they get a bit scraped up from time to time.

Personnel from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre recently spotted a juvenile of the species with large scrapes on its side and dorsal fin.

They sent out an unmanned hexacopter to get a closer look at the wound, and based on the images retrieved determined that it was likely caused by a run-in with a boat. 

It’s probable that the marine animal ended up too close to a propeller.
