Moths Could Be Colombia’s Next Weapon Against Cocaine Production

Scientists in Colombia believe that a specific type of moth which can safely digest leaves from the coca plant could be deployed into areas known for illegal cocaine production.

A moth could be the newest weapon in the fight against drugs in Columbia.
Given the nickname El Gringo due to its enjoyment of the coca plant, it can somehow digest the leaves that sicken or kill most other insects.
In fact, scientists believe that coca is the only thing the cocaine tussock moth eats.
The moth is also thought to have an innate ability to find coca plants because it seems to be the only place they lay their eggs.
