A recent study by researchers at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst has found that the material called graphene could be used to make bulletproof armor that is stronger and lighter weight.

A recent study has found that the material graphene could be used to make bulletproof armor that is stronger and lighter weight.

To test the strength and durability of the material the researchers shot miniature silica bullets at sheets of graphene that ranged from ten to one hundred layers thick.

The results of the study show that it is actually two times better than kevlar at absorbing kinetic energy.

Graphene was also found to be able to withstand an impact eight to ten times stronger than steel.

Based on data from the study collected using an electron microscope, the material stretches out into the shape of a cone and then cracks in several directions, making an impact hole.

Researchers say that adding another material to the graphene, and making it into a composite could prevent the cracking, and make it an even better material to be used in bulletproof armor.
