In the not too distant future, we’ll likely see drones flying over our heads on a regular basis. According to the Wall Street Journal, high-definition camera manufacturer, GoPro Incorporated has jumped on that increasingly popular bandwagon and will be unveiling its very own line of consumer unmanned crafts.

The devices will of course feature HD cameras. GoPro plans on selling the drones late in 2015. Prices will reportedly range between $500 and $1,000.

The motivating factors behind GoPro’s decision to branch into the drone market weren’t officially revealed, however the company is facing competition from other companies like DJI and Parrot.

In the last few years the drone market has taken off and is appealing millions of potential buyers, both individuals and businesses. Existing drones often have GoPro camera mounts, indicating that those who are interested in purchasing drones are also looking for the high definition cameras to go along with them.

That means the GoPro name is already well-known in the drone industry, despite the fact that no multirotor helicopters have been marketed by the company yet.

The decision might be a means of self-preservation, as two consumer drone makers recently began selling flying devices that are outfitted with their own cameras instead of GoPro mounts.
