Hawaii is known for it’s beautiful, peaceful landscape, but one of its stunning natural features has been anything but soothing as of late.

Mount Kilauea, a volcano located on Hawaii’s Big Island, began to spew lava this past June.

The flow has now claimed its first home.

A house in the village of Pahoa was set ablaze on the afternoon of November 10th.

The molten earth first surrounded the woodblocks beneath the structure and before long the building itself was ignited.

Thankfully, the domicile had been evacuated a while back and its residents were able to prepare, which included moving their horses to a safe location.

A relative of the house’s owners was notified and traveled to the site to watch the fire.

Authorities say that they plan to extend homeowners the opportunity to be onsite to witness their homes burn for both personal closure and insurance documentation purposes.

Once a building begins to blaze, firefighters have been advised to just let it go, but tackle any flames that spread.
Battling the lava itself is not a realistic endeavor as, among other tricky characteristics, active flows often have a temperature of about 2 thousand degrees Fahrenheit.
