For harried New York commuters, the East River Skyway gondolas promise spacious cars, breathtaking views, and 4-minute commutes from Brooklyn to Manhattan.

It was also pointed out that the alternative transit system, which has been proposed by a real estate mogul, would produce zero emissions and provide greater safety.

At present, the underground rail line that serves the area earmarked for the first gondola skyway are said to be miserably overcrowded and becoming more so all the time.

It’s estimated that since 2012 there’s been a 5 percent increase in riders, which amounts to about 6 thousand extra passengers on an average weekday.

While cars were added not long ago, many say they haven’t experienced any noticeable benefits.

East River Skyway’s developer says that he believes there will be a large demand for the system he’s proposing.

One of the other proposals on the table is building an additional subway line, which could not only take decades, but would likely come in at a much higher cost than the estimated price of the skyway.

If it happens, the first route built will be one that stretches from Williamsburg to Lower Manhattan. A gondola that serves Queens is also outlined in the plan.
